Mike - the type of guy to do a really weird Doug impersonation and leave you confused as to whether or not it’s a goof
lol
Most important, he doesn't look as funny as Doug. Doug looks like Mr. Bean.
...yeah, this is really embarrassing for this pear shaped gentleman...
@@dearbulls true
THISS is a....
That was the best longform Craiglist car ad I have ever seen.
Doug the type of guy to secretly train his apprentice, only to reveal him like this
Always two there are, a master and an apprentice
Driving impressions? Performance? Anything other than interior, features, and exterior tour?
So are you going to be making Doug's review style a permanent feature? The bug felt like a goofy one-off... but this is maybe approaching plagiarism?
UA-camrs are running out of originality.
Well Doug never trade mark his style of reviewing
Even you can so thay stlye
these guys were doing buy it lease it forget it years ago and no its nothing like plagiarism which has to do with writing not acting...if that was the case Arnold could sue everyone that said "ill be back"
That's exactly what I thought about
Doug who?
I think that pen holder was really meant to hold an air pressure gauge.
Digital air pressure, porsche said its a pen holder
Exactly.
And BTW - those aren't cupholders, they're coffee spillers. Their flip-out arm turns into a spring, is when you hit a bump, coffee (or the whole cup) goes all over.
True dat!
You should have given full credit to Doug Demuro considering this was almost an exact copy of his videos. Only thing it was missing was two shirts. Try to hide it better next time. It's hard to tell if this was a joke. But since you haven't addressed it I see it's not.
Ive had mine now for a couple of months and I'm never getting rid of it coming from a former convertible Mercedes owner
@DB-COOPER do it
@DB-COOPER I currently have a 6-speed SLK350 and it is an awesome car. 2006 model with 45K miles. Powerful, stylish, comfortable (the wife loves it) and great handler. I also had a pair of SLK230s. Good for the time, but not in league with the SLK350 or the Boxster S. It is very hard to find any Benz with a manual gearbox, if you value that as I do. I am considering going for my first Porsche myself.
That Boxster needs a serious deep detail before the sale
Just bought one !!!! I’m soooo excited. My first car is a freaking Porsche!!!!
Midnightcupcakes wtf
any problems so far?
Midnightcupcakes Yo, so its been 6 months. Hows it going? Any issues?
How’s that car working out? I’m considering getting one. Please reply back :)
@Blackporsche roadster its not that bad, you act like it's a maserati
Friend of mine as just bought one very impressed.
Good info.
Great review dude. I love the Doug style of going a bit more in-depth. Very nice.
The lot of people calling this video a Doug De Muro copy are doing so for good reason. That is not how TFL usually does 'the good the bad and the weird' and also, a very short(almost negligible) drive review for a 'buy it lease it rent it' test. All we found out from this video are all the itty bitty things that the car has and that it cost less.
Recommendation and review of car should include reliablity and in this case since it's sports car maybe performance numbers.
I wouldn’t hesitate to buy one of this generation. I already have an MX-5 so I’d buy the Cayman. I don’t need the S version either. Porsche is actually very reliable, Lexus reliable in fact. People don’t know that but they are ranked that way.
Excuse me Doug-e-fresh
😂🤦🏾♂️
Liking the content, keep up the good work 👍
As someone that had a used 2010 987.2 Base Boxster, be ready for anywhere from $6k - $10k in repair bills. They are really nice cars, but with no warranty they are ultra expensive to fix
Yes, Porsche has never stated that they build cars for the economy-minded individual ;) A friend of mine blew the engine on his 2018 GT3 on the track, he never lost any sleep over it.
I wonder what cost you so much - the engine issues has been sorted out and the PDK is a solid transmission - so, could you shed some light on your comment?
I love this car so much! Will definitely get it as my first car!
Great review of the 987! I am looking at a 987 Boxster S (2006) and appreciate the walkaround. I know there are some differences with the "S" model. Still trying to decide whether it is enough of an upgrade from my SLK350. Nicely done!
I got my 06 boxster S in 2019, and never had so much fun and joy driving around topdown in paradise! Aloha from Hawaii.... go for it ,do it, if you can, I did it.... rewarded myself after teaching public high school for 30+ years! Good luck!
Great video. As the owner of. 2002 Boxster, I concur. And, as the owner of an SKX as well, I can see you are someone who values, value! Keep it coming.
Alot of people stating it's a "Doug" copy...I can see some similarities but I have never seen Doug sell the car at the end of the video. I thought the video was informative and enjoyed it. Since I own a 2003 boxster it was cool to see the upgrades and price comparison that I paid for mine vs the cost of the one in this video. Look forward to seeing more car videos.
Agreed 100%. Highly underrated car.
There is a saying. Nothing is more expensive than an inexpensive Boxster. Money pits for sure. I test drove a 2001 Boxster S and it's quite a car.
Great video!
Seen stuff I didn't know about 987, thumbs up!
Great review 🤙🏻
Excelent video, thanks!
Great video, man! Thank you!
I like this review. Even though he pulled a Doug, the camera shots are fun.
I wonder if people will ever realize how good and special the 987 is.
Even in 2022 this is still a sports car bargain. I will definitely buy it!
17k holy shit! I just bought a 2007 cayman s for $14
Mileage matters. I'm just saying.
I can not agree any more with this title! I own a 978.2 PDK and it has provided me with tons of smiles and no issues. I’ve taken it on the track at Sebring is it was perfect
Blackporsche roadster haha well I’ll still be sleeping soundly if that ever happened. That sucks for anybody to happen to. My Porsche is certified preowned with the 2 year warranty
Blackporsche roadster up next I’m eyeing a certified preowned F-Type R after my warranty expires. Cars break man, they’re machines. You gotta be able to pay to play
The second air vent on the side sucks air in, not blow it out to cool the engine compartment once it reaches a certain temperature. The PSM isn't just traction control, it's actual stability management that measures driving direction, speed, yaw and lateral direction. The speaker holes between the seats is the Bose subwoofer. Spend a little more and get a S model. It has bigger brakes, bigger engine, and a 6 speed instead of a 5 speed.
Triptronic transmission
I absolutely LOVE my 987!
Man, I just bought an 08 Boxster manual...It was a mess...abandoned in outback Aus. Had a rat living in the rear trunk that chewed up the wiring so the trunk wouldn't open. Anyways with google's help I fixed it all up and it's running like a dream (just needs a respray). If you are a hobby mechanic and DIY'er this car is for you...they are solid, well built and logical. Parts are available but all plastics and metal are built to last. A million times easier to work on than my Citroen DS and a million times more solid than my Daughter's new beetle where the plastics fall apart just by looking at them
Well hell, that rat surely knew how to pick his house, lol ! And with taste, too !
@@manupainkiller and with replacing all the suspension components now it is just a dream to drive, tight and direct
This is better then Doug’s review...he didn’t go on and on for 20 plus minutes lol I rarely make it through his videos’
Well, your video is well done, except you spend almost zero time explaining why it is the best sports car deal.
A short driving demo might have helped justify the headline, too.
you forgot the sliding drawers behind the headrest but it's still a nice video.
bye👋

There are 3 outlets. 1 is in the center console. That's where I plug my Bluetooth for streaming music. And there is no cd player in the front that I'm aware of. There is a DVD unit which is for the navigation dvds. I have a 2006 cayman so it obviously shares some similarities. I do not have that speaker in the middle of the seats and do not have a coolant gauge except when I open the cap.
Doug would review this car in under 30 minutes, Mike does it in under eight.
Chuck Lucas helps when you don’t drive it
Mike is the type of guy to do a Doug impersonation
-- _Nice Review!_
Can't turn PMS (PSM) all the way off. It just becomes less sensitive. I own a 987 and a 981 and I found that out the hard way. Also, there should be mention of the IMS issues in these 986 and 987s.
if you buy used, being able to work on the car is a high priority. if you have to pay porsche to remove the engine from underneath to work on it, that can be a deal killer and probably a big reason why they don't retain their value. before you rate a used car, we need to see you work on the engine.
You probably have to remove the engine form underneath to change the alternator. lol. It' likely gna need one next week. lol. They only cost $500? and are hard to find. lol
Jimmy Schmidt nah I replaced my alternator on my boxster by just taking off the hatch behind the seats that gives you access to the alternator. Porsche’s if this era are true track cars, they were designed to be worked on, brake calibers are off with two bolts, headlights out with one. Porsche charge a lot for servicing but it’s easier to work on yourself than most other cars I’ve owned. Had a 996 C4 986 Boxster and now have a 996 C4S.
Problem with used Porsche is if it has been thrashed and abused with lack of maintenece ....mainly frequent oil changes...and how can one REALLY even know unless it was monitored and recorded....so anyone that gets unlucky they might have a time bomb....and these motors cost a fortune to fix or replace ...like $7k at least to put just a usedmotor in that might fail next week or $10k to $20k for a rebuilt or new motor? This is what keeps me from pulling the trigger...how to find a used one I trust was well cared for....now that the warranty is maybe kaput
You just hit 100,000 subs
I have a 2008 model, never knew about the pen holder and the cd thing :)))
Good vid 👍
Lay off the criticism! He did a thorough job and familiarised himself with the vehicle beforehand. He didn't even stutter which is a trait of a professional. See if you can do better!
Br Cc he did do a good job but seriously, how can you not notice the Doug DeMuro format? Not that's there's anything wrong with that but you have to expect some feedback, be it positive or negative. The problem is that Doug has a very engaging personality and a quirky sense of humor so anyone trying to imitate his style tends to be a bit awkward and that's the case here. The review was fine but the format is distracting to a point.
But hey, maybe TFL can refine it and make it more their own. For example, they don't have to start out with "This is.." or "..and then I'll give it a TFL score" or something like that. They can keep the format but change the script a bit. I think it's those specific Doug cues that lends a certain sameness to it.
It's OK to idolize the way a UA-camr does a review and find inspiration from it but they just need to find a way to do it in their own style, unless of course they wanted to imitate him more directly.
@@housepianist thanks for the helpful feedback Randall. I think it's clear we ought to try to differentiate the style a little more going forward.
@@housepianist part of the problem is that TFL seems to be obsessed with DeMuro, one day criticizing him, and now copying him. It's kind of weird.
+Br Cc Criticism is usually a good thing actually. In any case, no one can deny the resemblance to Doug's videos, that has to be accepted even by you. I mean, read the video title for once. I am not even gonna be blunt here. This is a rip off of Doug for sure. I am sorry, but I find too many things that's the same as Doug's.
Hate kills, try something yourself that does not prejudice….
Great Doug DeMouro video
Doug the type of guy to watch this and sit back and know his realm is perfectly secure.
Amazing review! You have talent! I love all the small details provided and the different camera angles. I look forward to more reviews from this guy!
Pcm is probably stability control right? traction control isn’t the same is it?
17 five years ago. Dream on...
Better off with a 987.2 (2009-2012) It has a 9A1 engine which eliminates IMS issues. Also, if you choose the automatic, it will be a PDK.
987.1 was torque converter more reliable than pdk in city traffics am I right
You buy a Porsche to enjoy it not to complain about it yes you complain about it when it's not running but, when it's running it rewarding; it's a driver's car very few cheap driver cars still exist
I've had Fezza, Jag, and other sports cars, they came and went, but I'll never sell my 987 Boxster!
Just bought one last year. Great car for the dollar. I think your HP was off as the base makes 245hp.
And the auto option is a 5 speed not six ......
Been there, done that, forget it,run as fast as you can away from this bank draining machine.
whys that?
occasion pareille. 🎧🎼🙋🏻♂️
The other comments about this trying to be DD are pretty spot on. You can do better than this. Demuro is his own thing, no reason to copycat when there’s a million other ways to present your content. People don’t come here for a Doug video clone.
"With a car like this, you just have to fly.."
The bargain of the century are the now used sky redlines and solstice GPX's...that can be had with low mileage around $10k, or less. Can't be beat.
If you have one for >$10K with >50,000miles let me know.
I’m looking at 987.2 onwards prior appears to have too many engine issues
You said quirk...boy u dun did it now
Thanks, I bought a silver one for about $11500 USD
I bought one and yes, thank you....
My parents have a 2005 porche boxster that is a 6-speed Manuel
Didn’t TFL already have one of those ?
How about the maintenance?
Great car. Thumbs up.
This car is about chassis. Handles like hell. You don’t need tons of power with that.
I love you guys and have been watching TFL since the beginning but please dont copy Doug!!! It's cute and funny but I love TFL for TFL. Keep up the good work. Thanks!
C'mon people this isn't a Doug ripoff... This kid only has one shirt.
“Only Sport Car With 2 Usable Trunks” What about the Cayman?
Wonder what it costs to change the plugs.
Eat Jat Or an EZ Carlift like I have. Then it's even easier.
The intro sounds like doug
Favorite car going to buy it soon, the S version.
How much is the payments
These generation Boxsters are mostly cheap enough that you shouldn’t have payments.
If you have to ask......
5 minute mark.. look at the armrest flaking
I have owned several used Porsche and a BMW. It’s all fun until you need parts and labor. Big Bucks! Even your local non dealer mechanic is going to cost big bucks. I suggest only buying one if you can afford an extended FACTORY warranty. Enjoy!
On a 2006?
Well damn Doug 2.0
well a good walk through of the physical features of a second generation boxster.. with absolutely nothing about driving, nothing at all..
Only sport car with 2 trunks!? What about Toyota Mr-2 or McLaren F1?
That 987 is filthy...
It’s very well done and yeah you can only do so much within the style, but you even talk like him in the video and shoot from the same angles. It’s just too similar. Keep it up but shake it up
i want this car!
"I fit extremely well in this interior" ....Whilst sitting with the steering wheel on his knees!!!! I'm 6ft and don't fit in a Boxster.
I'm 5'6-7 so good or bad fit?
Compa Juan01 You should be good
This is the same style as nearly anybody else have their reviewing a car. It's a typical, intuitive style and does not belong to any one individual. Doug certainly didn't invent it. Ignore your detractors. It was a decent video. Definitely would have liked to have seen more driving, more details about the vehicle's performance.
That's not a pen holder. It's for a tire gauge.
Doug looks different in this video
The first time was actually enjoyable, but if this is something permanent, you're losing me. How blatantly unoriginal can you be, not cool.
edit: the cringgee
Why on Earth would you need to store 2 CDs in your glove box... ? That's pretty bizarre.
Still a lot of cds in 2006
I really enjoyed your commercial...but you forgot to mention about the IMS Issue in the 987.1..Huh! But I think it's a fair price..how is the IMS on that car btw?
Updated to double row in the M97 engine, failure rate below 1%. Statistically much better than any American or Japanese car in terms of reliability. But whatever, paranoid people will get paranoid for whatever reason.
Nope, the Dual row was the earliest one, it was updated to the single row in MY 2000 (?), and then to the big single row bearing (that can't be swapped out through the inspection hole) in 2005 (?)
I believe it started 2006 that can't be swapped out.
MY2006 and before, engines M96 including some M97 before June 2006: single row (very easy to change). MY2006 up to 2009 (987.2), M97 engines: double row (difficult access for replacement if you're an improvised DIY guy). From 2009 and on the IMS was completely superseded. Look for PCA videos and documentation.
My point is: leave alone replacing...is it really worthy to worry about a very inaccessible piece that had a failure rate under 1%, again, much better than many traditional American or Japanese cars? is not like any of you are actually going to race it properly for extended periods of time anyways lol
@@VotreCauchemar This is a confusing issue, but the worst failures were the 2000 - 2004 986's with the double row. Late 2006 to 2008 was a larger single row, not serviceable, but with a very low, less than 1%, failure rate. From 2009 on, there was no IMS bearing used. Just dug deep into this and gladly learned that my 2006 has a high serial number, so it has the improved larger single row bearing.
Doug light?
Budget Doug Demuro reviews budget Boxster.
I didn't hit a dislike because I think copy a successful style is the way for beginners. Hope you can find your style soon. PS, I hope more people start to discover the hidden funny features of their cars.
No Doug score?
I’m interested....do you finance??????
