UA-camr's years ago "The Porsche Boxster is the worst Porsche. It's not a real Porsche." UA-camr's today: "Here's why the most hated Porsche is a steal and I love it."
@@WatchJRGo I get why you love it, It make since. Small package, rear wheel, its a fun little zipper. Its not Porsche though, until you are going 90 on a spiraled onramp holding it perfectly inline without a care in the world, its not the purpose of the company. The Porsche boxer is one of, if not the ultimate , I'm 40 and my hair is falling out cars.
I personally think that the Boxster is a great little sporty car. True Porsche enthusiasts understand this car (and Cayman) and respect them for what they are.
I don't get the hate for Boxsters, especially from other Porsche owners - is it because a Boxster owner got 90% of the performance for 50% of the cost? I just don't understand it. Same thing happens with Jeeps, unless it's a Wrangler, it's not a 'real Jeep'... It's like they don't understand that an automaker can't survive making only one model for enthusiasts.
@@virtualmyles But they HAVE introduced other models -- the 3, X, and Y. So they are not a strictly one model company. Porsche wouldn't survive if all they made was the 911, there just isn't a big enough market for them to support the company.
I've owned two Boxsters. My current is an '01 with 125k, and my first was a '99 that I bought with 160k and sold on at over 190k. The 'IMS problem' is overblown hype. Boxsters are an absolute blast to drive, easy to maintain and find parts for, and are cockroach tough. They're the Toyota Tercel of Porsches, and anyone who puts them down is an idiot. You're going to love that car.
Truly never understood the perceived hate on the Boxster. They're fun, reliable, relatively cheap to maintain... The 986 and 987 especially feel compact and analog with most of what the 911 of the same gen came with. A great entry-level Porsche and a blast to drive. There have been 2 in my garage and I'd absolutely get a 3rd.
first gen (986) came out in the era right when supercars were getting expensive, everyone wanted this to be the 996 but is was a new thing that people didn't understand, that looked sorta like a 911 but the engine was in the middle somewhere instead of hanging out over the back wheels (which purists didn't think was a 'real' porsche). People thought it was just using the brand name to charge a premium for a german miata and it quickly came to be seen as an overpriced and under-performing 911 knockoff (by people like me that never sat in the drivers seat of one). These actually were quite affordable especially in the used market and were seen as a girl car. Most of us went to sleep on the boxster ever since. But then these got better with each iteration, became a trackstar and recently many of us look at the 718 now and say wow I think I like this more than the 911. I know I really want one (if I ever in my life own a weekend car a 987 or newer is at the top of the wishlist).
Wait until you get into the twisties. I have an 07 Cayman 2.7 since new - October 06. Car comes alive over 5k rpm. Best sports car for the money by far.
The Boxster is one of the best handling cars of all time straight out of the box from the factory out performing all its competition for years! I loved my 3.2S ! Enjoy
@@ronconrad3507 I'm sure those are great. But good luck finding one for under $10K. I don't think there is a better bang for you buck than an old Boxster right now. I loved my 944 NA, but you can't beat the sound of a flat six.
I have an '08 base manual with the 2.7 and 60ish thousand miles, but with nearly every option that was available at the time. It's in almost showroom condition and far and away the most fun you can have on 4 wheels at legal speeds. Not the fastest thing in a straight line but point it at corners and it's just magic.
Not all Porsche fans hate the Boxster . When I bought my 02 911 5 years all I heard was fried egg headlights and IMS bearings and how it was hated by the Porsche community , not so much now . I also found that all the haters had never driven a 996 and it's probably the same with the Boxster . So cool car hope you enjoy it .
Luckily the majority of IMS issue cars have all either had them swapped or grenaded by now. Buying one is much less a gamble than even a few years ago.
People who are unfamiliar with Porsche and/or some 911 snobs dismiss the Boxster as "not a real Porsche" and other nonsense. Ironically, they usually don't do so with the Cayman which is the same car in coupe form. I've had two Boxsters so far, first one was the '02 986 which I enjoyed, but was taken out by the dreaded IMS issue - it does happen. I replaced it with the '11 987.2 version, which has been fantastic. The .2 version runs from '09 to '12 and is worth the find - they didn't make many - but eliminates all IMS and bore scoring concerns. I scored one with 22,000 miles two years ago and just turned 60,000 miles today. It's my daily driver and weekend toy. Besides oil changes, replaced the battery and broken shifter cable, been super reliable. Great driving dynamics, flat six sound, and best of all - being part of the Porsche community - tons of events and great folks. In any case, please keep the Boxster hate alive so they remain affordable to people who actually dig 'em. Yes, they're horrible cars and you'd look a fool driving one - just keep saving for a 911...
Porsche is a car company that is run by engineers, not marketers or accounting people. The quality of the product is a critical factor for this company. A well cared for Porsche is made to last. There may have been weird looking models over the years but there are no bad cars. They are all built to a very high standard.
@@dondgc2298 IMS bearing absolutely plagued the 986 original boxster, but almost nonexistent on the 987. The big problem with these 987 cars is bore scoring, however the base models don’t seem to get this problem. A base 987 boxster or cayman seems like an amazing buy. Give up a little performance for a lot of reliability.
Sometimes they slip with the standards, especially when they outsource certain parts to other manufacturers. That is what happened to first-gen Cayennes which has a way too high percentage of cylinder scoring due to unprecise measurements by an external company. For those who don't know cylinder scoring causes catastrophic failure eventually leading to a very expensive motor rebuild or a new engine and for most people these days it's directly to the scrapyard for parts. More models had this issue but the Cayenne was extra prone. For years Porsche lied and denied everything until it became impossible to hide anymore. Should have been a lawsuit for sure. Lots of people including me got screwed over hard.
I used to dislike Boxsters but then some time in the last decade I came to love them, even some of the older ones. When you were dissing it at the beginning of the video I chuckled because I knew you'd fall in love with it. You aren't selling it lol.
@@WhiteG60 the main reason he flips cars is for UA-cam content. Outside of UA-camrs owning multiple cars usually means you can't enjoy them, and now insuring multiple cars is a major burden.
Boxsters are sooo dependable all of them even the 2000-2005 with the Bad single row IMS are great cars but should have the IMS felt with. I absolutely love the feel of the 986 and 987 they can easily go 200-250k mileage your doing something wrong if they dont
I think the Boxster is one of the most underrated cars around. For the price that you paid, there's not many convertibles that would match the fun of that car.
To get to our neighborhood from the main road from the west, one used to make a hairpin turn. I watched a Boxster take it at high speed with no lean. Great handling.
I bought my 987.1 for $9500 6 months ago. 83,000 miles. Manual. Clean title. In Texas, 2-owners. Great Car, quality is great when compared to my old 986.
Wow, here in Europe the 987 never went under 20.000, most were around 25.000 or up. Even a 97 986 with 180.000 miles is worth over 10k.... Ridiculous, a couple of years ago they were down at 6k
Don’t know what Porsche guys you hang out with but every 911 owner I know also has a Boxster or Cayman and I hate to tell you which one they generally enjoy driving more. Glad you found the light by the end of your video. Almost 200,000 miles is insane for the condition of your car. Those seats looked like they barely have 50,000 miles on them. I’ve owned my 2006 (exactly like yours) for almost 17 years and the only problem I’ve ever had with it is that it’s needed 2 batteries in that time. Oil changes every year, brake flushes every other. That’s it. And if you haven’t had the IMS issue by now I think it’s safe to say you probably won’t.
@@WatchJRGo wdym bad rep from the early cars. is this some usa thing in the vein of that 316 bmw's don't exist and only high spec 911's exist. they reviewed pretty well
@@WatchJRGo This must be a Kansas thing, I guess.. The Cayman (and Boxster) have an amazing reputation. It's a VERY capable sports car, and the mid-engine layout makes it quite superior to virtually any of its competitors....and in many ways, the 911. I heard stories (I think from 'Daddy Doug), that the first 987.1 test cars needed to be de-tuned....as they were regularly beating the 911's. And Porsche didn't want the 'budget model' out-shining the over-priced flag-ship. I'll take my '07 Cayman Base over a crappy Miata....any day of the week!!
@@thekatmann9730 It's never going to be superior to 911 handling wise, and porsche made damn sure of it. Blindly saying mid engine > rear engine is like saying a double wishbone miata handles better than a macpherson porsche
I owned several air cooled 911s throught the years and never passed my mind that I would be owning today a porsche boxster. last year I picked an 09 987.2 pdk. absolutely love this car to be real honest. for a base model it handles incredibly and its a joy to ride on he back roads of Virnia. I am a true porsche fan for ages and never thought that I would enjoy so much the 987.2. 84k miles and runs like new.
It's one Porsche more than I have and I bet than most people have. Whether other people like it isn't the point, it's whether you like it that counts. That said, I would rather have had that Jag you recently had gotten rid of. Cheers for the content mate.
I've got a 987S and it's a fantastic car! Amazing balance, just enough power and looks are starting to become 'classic'. They can be had for quite a bit less than Caymans or 911s and offer just as much fun and driving excitement.
I hit triple digits on rolling backroads on my 20 mile commute home, and have an amazing time in my 987.1. I've driven 997 4S, C2S and GT3 variants. My (modified) Caymanfeels like a baby GT3 for the street. H&R sport springs firmed up the suspension, wheel spacers widen the track and fill out the wheel wells. Stainless steel brake lines and GT3 brake master cylinder firmed up the brakes. IPD plenum with FVD Brombacher exhaust and tune livened up the engine, and Numeric shift cables keep me rowing the gears and not walking home. It's an amazing car to drive, and I don't think I could use or want more on the street. 425HP would just be jailbait.
I own a 2006 Boxster S. The best bang for the buck of any of the Porsches. Mid engine balance, horsepower to weight ratio and more. Well built, very reliable. One of the best convertibles ever built.
Boxster and Cayman always had amazing driving dynamics with 50-50 weight distribution, mid engine and balanced chassis. Only thing holding them back was 911 fans and Porsche itself, because giving it more power would've obliterated 911 on track and records.
I don’t know why people don’t like the Boxster, ya it may not be top of the line but it’s affordable, obviously reliable if taken care of, and looks good
@@pops55650 Possibly. I know three 911 owners - 2 with 991's and one with a 930 and they have nothing but good to say about the Boxster. Due to the current cost of living in the UK one of them is thinking of downtrading to a Boxster. That's the only anecdotal evidence I have of what 911 owners think though.
My wife bought a 2000 manual with 72K miles out of California about five years ago, and its ready to turn 100k this fall. We gave it a full service at home when we got it, change oil once per year, and it's just a great daily driver. Doesn't leak or burn oil, doesn't throw codes, AC still blows cold, and FCP Euro has everything for it. Its a pain to service without a lift or jackstands, but once it's in the air, everything is simple to access.
Owned a 987s for a number of years. Plenty fast, incredible steering and handling. Absolutely loved it! Looks like you bought an excellent example. Congrats!
JR, engine access is from below, and under the area where the top folds. The wiring on the radio is always hot, unswitched, which you will discover when you install the aftermarket stereo and need to wire to ignition. On the Dragon, where the twisties go L-R-L-R etc the Boxster is unexcelled as the near zero polar moment of inertia allows for insane steering sawing…just be careful not to rear end any motorcycles or rear engine 911s.
Had a 2004 Boxster S with the 6 speed manual. Other than multiple battery replacements (all done by the Porsche dealer) it was a fast, reliable car. You should love yours.
I don't get the Boxster hate. I bought an 00 986.1 2.7 5spd manual in 2016 and an 03 986.2 3.2 6spd manual in 2020. I've drive several MX5's and owned a 95 NA 1.8 5spd manual for six years. I have also owned 5 Z3's: 97 2.8 5spd, 98 1.9 5spd, 00 2.5 Auto, 01 3.0 5spd manual, 01 3.0 Steptronic 5spd. The Boxsters are the best handling and the best all-around practical two seaters. Although they were never meant for the track, the Z3's are the most fun on public roads and are woefully unappreciated. The MX5 is an economy car that is a great base for a track car. But even if you upgrade it with a turbo or supercharger and suspension, it is no match for a Boxster S on the street or track. My Miata could not keep up with my Z3 2.8 or 3.0 on twisty mountain roads. It was just ahead of the 1.9 Z3 though the Z3 has superior sound and heat insulation. No one mentions it but I confirmed it with other Miata owners at Miatas At The Gap that the NA, NB, and NC will give you hot foot! I don't mean it despairingly but the NA and NB are tin type economy sub Civic level cars. The Z3's are a step above the NA/NB in quality and features, but the NC is on par or a step above the Z3, but by then they were making the Z4. The Z4 is not my cup of tea because, well, we have the Boxsters! I live 20 minutes from Skyline Drive in Virginia. I test drove the base model Cabrio 911 and compared it to the base model Boxster and I preferred the way the Boxster handled. The fact that it was half the price didn't hurt my feelings buying it, but the fact that the base model 911 is more than double the price now does hurt my wallet. I still plan to get an NC one of these days but the last time I set out to do that I ended up with an RX8: a third of the price and my favorite handling of any car so far. I didn't say the best, I said my favorite. Clarkson, as I do, considered the Z3 the most fun when he test rode it, and proclaimed the RX8 the best handling, look it up! But then the higher ups made him take it back and he blamed the tires!
No, you have to open the top half way and then remove the panels covering the top of the engine. The trim panels in the back don't provide engine access.
Believe me, the hate will always be there, whatever the marque. Just enjoy what you've got, and forget the rest. That's their problem.......I have a Ferrari California, and talk about the hate from the so-called Ferrari enthusiasts community!!! If I listened to them, I would never drive the thing again......but what do they know!
I had a deposit on a 911 that was coming into dealer stock and asked the Porsche dealer to let me take out a Boxster S that was on the lot…… I bought the Boxster.
My dad was one of the previous owners of this Boxster. He is the one who put the PCA sticker in it and the storage box behind the seats. He’s also somewhere in the comments. We both loved this car and did the maintenance together. I still remember when I broke the latch that pulls the seat forward on the passenger side on a roadtrip.

Really, you bought that model, for 9K USD? Man, I live in Portugal, that model would never be worth less than 20K, and low- to mid-middle class people make that much in a year. I think I am spoiled for living in a western Country. But when I see people living in Countries with higher salaries and 986's for less than 10K... I feel what a typical guy in India or South America must feel...
Also I noticed you mentioned the dreaded IMS issues often mentioned. You' be pleased to know the issues of IMS and bore scoring are apparently pretty much unheard of on the 2.7s according to PCA and many other Porsche specialists in the UK. Happy motoring! 😊😊
Mine’s a beautiful black ‘98 with a new top and new seats. It was kept in great condition and has now been sitting. It has 140,000 original miles? I’ll have to look. Would a Boxter ever be a classic that appreciates in price?
I got to drive a Boxster back in the early 2000s. Other than not really fitting in it (if your over 6ft good luck) the car was a blast. Haters gonna hate it's still a Porsche.
Strange, I'm 6'5 and fit perfectly well in both my Boxster and the 911 I used to own. They are made for tall Germans and I've found them to be extremely comfortable. Now a Miata on the other hand, I literally can't even get my legs into.
Anyone that has spent any amount of seat time in a Boxster/Cayman realize they are one of the best sport cars available. I'll never go back to the 911's. I love canyon carving and twisty roads and nothing beats the Boxster/Cayman platform.
What a cool car. I know nothing about Porsche, but that one looks like a lot of fun. I don't give much credence to a name. If it looks good and does what i want it to do then I don't care who makes it. ALL vehicles have their inherent issues. If it were me, from what i see in this car, I would keep it and enjoy it.
198K miles - someone loved that car. I'll happily take a 1st gen Cayman. Boxter with a hard top. Stiffer, sublime, and drives like a scalded weasel in the curves - perfect as I live in the mountains.
For at least the last 10 years its been pretty commonly known that the Boxster and Cayman are fantastic sports cars and usually receive at least a 9 or 10 out of 10 from almost every car magazine. Perhaps you are thinking of the Boxster from 20+ years ago when it first came out and was thought of as a hair dressers car. Current Boxters are amazing and perfected Sports Cars with ICE engines.
First time running into your channel. In case you haven’t try a disk recover utility called “EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard”. I have had many success with this utility recovering my data (80-97%) from many of my SD cards or even a HDD thru pretty much any interface (USB, SD card slot, SATA)…even with multiple reformat of the card(s). By the way, love that carrera white color and the 987.1 , 987.2 & 981 Boxster models. All are amazingly thrill to drive, especially on those twisty roads. My 2015 Boxster S 981 (PDK) still give me that big smile everytime I’m in it.
Great video! My 2007 Boxster S has 140,000 miles and a very reliable car and always fun to drive. I say this car is built like a tank. All parts are original still except for belt, tires, AOS, brake pads and rotors. I'm not a mechanic but I learned to perform regular maintenance from watching UA-cam. I have never worked on cars in my whole life before until I brought home a Porsche Boxster.
I have a manual 987 boxster base with 153k miles on it and it just keeps going. It’s such a fun purist car for the canyons. It’s underpowered compared to newer cars but who cares when you are having fun in the twisties. Upgrading the suspension and the shifter is a night and day difference with this car.
IMS with those miles isn’t really a concern in my opinion. In 2001, I bought a Boxster from a coworker that I was going to flip. Ended up driving it for 10 years. My 88 911 was more fun, but the modern AC, ease of driving and handling of my base 5 speed Boxster made me choose it more than the 911. Great choice in a Porsche!!
Why did you judge this car before you drove it? The Boxeter saved Porsche from going out of business. People that talk out of inexperience are a dime a dozen.
Loving the retro JR in the driveway. So close to buying one of the Gen 1 Boxsters a few time but it kinda like buying a scooter. Looks like you got a good one and they are fun little rides.
The Boxster handles brillianty and flies around bends like a go cart, unlike a 911 where you have to a have a degree in physics in order for the rail heavy rear not to swing out and land you in a ditch!
All the boxsters are some of the most fun cars you can possibly drive. They are equally as fun to drive as a 911 if not more fun. Anytime someone drives a boxsters they have to have one. They are dependable cars an relatively easy to maintain. The 986 987 and 981’s are all phenomenal cars and are the best small sports cars. The mid engine is a symphony behind your ears I recommend everybody get a chance to drive a boxster or a few
I thought the age-old elitist hatred of base Porsche models was a thing of the past, for the very reason that he enjoyed driving the car so much, but I guess it is alive and well. Is that really the prevailing attitude at meets like Porsche-apalooza? that someone arriving in a base Boxster that they can afford and do enjoy, is somehow beneath the rest of them? As someone who wants, but can't currently afford a sideline car, such as a Porsche in today's economic climate, and would probably buy a car very much like that base 987, although maybe fewer miles... that is disheartening, but ultimately when I do buy a car, which is very rare, I buy it for me, not for others.
Love the JR in the driveway videos. Most of my favorites are the at-the-house videos. First time I became interested in 100percentjake was a driveway video. This is how we all do this! Thanks JR!
Hi John, I bought my 987 manual Boxster, with 246,000 miles here in the UK for £3650 gbp ($4400 usd). I bought it for my channel to go through everything that could be wrong with a high mileage Boxster but there was nothing to do. The video ended up being how good high mileage Porsches are. Its been the best car I've ever bought. You've got loads of miles left in yours. All the best. 👍
Boxster is a fantastic car. It saved the company. By far the most sports car for the money. Excellent engineering and with a few modest mods they are a blast!
911 guys are insecure about the Boxster and its neutral mid engine handling. They paid a lot more money for their 911 and feel threatened by a cheaper mid engine sports car. Good thing Porsche gave the Boxster less power, or their 911 buyers would really feel threatened in the extreme.
The boxter and cayman are extremely underrated as a true driver's platform. The mid engine design makes it a superb canyon chaser for a budget. Also if you look at how Porshe has incrementally moved the pdk transmission so far forward over the rear axle making the 911 balance like the aforementioned. We won't even mention the useless rear seats.
Love my 2010 987.2 S (DIT 3.4); Boxster is/was based on the 550 Spyder that’s much cooler than the 356 (what the 911 was based on). 911 guys just get offended knowing that these cars can lap them on the track. Porsche also always held these cars back not to make them better than the backwards 911. GT4RS C was finally proof they could and were better. Also have an F-Type these older mechanical Boxster are pure enthusiast fun.
The Porsche 914 was always considered a joke when I was a kid. Don't tell me they are cool and collectable now. Kids in my high school could afford them.
Buddy, the Boxster is one of the most fun car I have driven, great handling, great power, coolest design and a blast to drive, glad you are a believer now
Saw this on your Instagram earlier couldn’t wait to see what happens next with this baby! If you properly take care of things it’ll last for another 250K plus!
If no one has mentioned, the elastic bands that hold in the top when you put the top up, are weakened, over-stretched. This causes the top NOT to slide into the channel around the curve of the top. You can see this on the vid where you cycle the top. It's fairly easy to get at that strip and sew in a new elastic. I got mine at JoAnn fabrics, and 15 min of sewing each side. BTW-I have an '05 with 115K miles and it runs like new
Spot on. That has happened to my top as well. Tightened it with a staple in each loop through which the elastic cable passes. Temporary fix. has lasted like this for 6 extra yrs now on my 136000 kms 2009 base Boxster 6 speed manual. Annual oil changes /or 12000kms. Plugs each 60,000kms. Clutch cable changed @ 92000 kms. New battery each 5-6 yrs. Least expensive Porsche to maintain & great fun to drive in the twisties. Try that on any 911 now with $400-$600 annual service, and too many computer parts & sensors. 2009 has no IMS (rare but expensive repair/ no cylinder scoring on the base 2.9 L engine). The 987.2 is a well kept secret as a desirable reliable Porsche. Has held its value very well as a bonus, but it's a keeper.
I would love a Boxter. You watch how these things are going to be crazily sought after 20+ years from now...assuming we are still allowed to own an ICE car Side note: Giving away a beautiful Grand National while requiring support for the ACLU is the cruelest thing I have heard of in some time
I have one, figured I'd take a test drive and see how Iiked it. After I drove it I had to have it. Paid $7,300 had 139,000 miles and 98,000 on the engine. It's been great had it for two years has only needed a new tensioner pulley
What an awesome car and very nice purchase! I am looking foward to many epic shots of the road trip adventure with this Porsche. Great sound too. Perhaps, if the car does not stay in your collection, Will from Rennthusiast is interested in being the new owner? Glad the car is not fully 'rallied out' with gadgets etc. Congratulations, cool story and likewise Porsche Boxster 😎✌
I have previously owned a 2004 BMW Z4 and currently own a 2010 Porsche Boxster. I have to say that the Boxster runs circles around the BMW. So much fun with the 6 speed manual transmission and that precision mechanical whirling sound coupled with that Porsche growl!
You got it backwards. Before I purchased my 2006 987S, I researched lots of different automotive authors and editors for many different types of convertibles I was considering. New Miatas, Mercedes, BMWs, S2000, Vipers and a few others. And in conclusions of almost every article they would say something about the Boxster been the gold standard for small two seater sports cars. Power to weight, durability, balance, comfort and just plain fun to drive. I only have 88,000 mile on mine (it had 43K on it when I purchased it four years ago). Both my wife and I thoroughly enjoy it.
When buying my first Porsche, I was offered a brand new Boxster or a used 911, in the late 90s. They are very different beasts, with antagonist qualities, the Boxster being very easy to drive in any condition including snow, while the 911 needed more experienced driver to express its potential. The Boxster is essentially a fun car to drive, playful but still easy to control. I chose the 911 Typ 964, specifically because it was more demanding and less forgetting. Strong character.
I bought a 986 last year for 5K. 2.7L motor, 5spd, ran and drove great. I also put it on air. Fantastic car, wish I wasn't forced to sell it. But I find these under 10K all day long in Kentucky. The Boxster is just a expensive mid-engine Miata. And other Porsche owners acknowledge it and wave at you even if their in something rare like a GT2 Turbo. My next move is probably a 987 Cayman.
Last September I bought a 2000 Boxter S with only 33,500 km on it in mint brand new condition. I drove it for a month before I put it away for winter and put 2,000 km on it. all highway on the weekends. Looks and drives amazing. i love this car
My daily driver for the past 9 years is a 03 boxster S. I'm in Northern Illinois and about half the year it has snow tires and the other half street/track tires. It is incredibly reliable and I have zero complaints. People have their opinion about Boxsters however I love it and that is what is important. Great video

Same thing happens with Jeeps, unless it's a Wrangler, it's not a 'real Jeep'... It's like they don't understand that an automaker can't survive making only one model for enthusiasts.
This is why I said it’s the best car I’ve ever bought at the end 🤔
@@AndrewAMartin take Tesla for example.... they released the P90D 12 years ago, and haven't updated it since.
@@virtualmyles But they HAVE introduced other models -- the 3, X, and Y. So they are not a strictly one model company. Porsche wouldn't survive if all they made was the 911, there just isn't a big enough market for them to support the company.
@@WatchJRGo but you said "worst Porsche" at the beginning of the video...
The original was pretty weak. Still fun but TODAY, a newer Boxster is really great
own 2 boxster s' (2006 and 2014). they are fantastic to drive and are (knock on wood) bullet proof / built like a proverbial tank.

By the way - top speed? 160.

The Boxster is one of the best handling cars of all time straight out of the box from the factory out performing all its competition for years! I loved my 3.2S ! Enjoy
This. They all feel crazy planted. Nimble, plenty of zip. Quality built for a small car. If you hate it, you haven’t driven it. That’s my view.

I’ve never drove one but loved the looks of the boxster when I first saw one 20+ years ago.
I have a '08 S model.. and I cosign everything you just said. (and simiarly mine is near showroom condition as well)
So true. Great cars.
You mean "GT 1 headlights", right ? 😎
The 550 was Ferdinand’s dream. The Boxster is the modern 550, thus is more ‘Porsche’ than a 911.
Porsche is a car company that is run by engineers, not marketers or accounting people. The quality of the product is a critical factor for this company. A well cared for Porsche is made to last. There may have been weird looking models over the years but there are no bad cars. They are all built to a very high standard.
The IMS bearing issue is a definite defect in earlier models though…
It wasn’t as bad and common everyone made it out to be
@@dondgc2298 IMS bearing absolutely plagued the 986 original boxster, but almost nonexistent on the 987.
The big problem with these 987 cars is bore scoring, however the base models don’t seem to get this problem. A base 987 boxster or cayman seems like an amazing buy. Give up a little performance for a lot of reliability.
@@ericlecours4208 which year marked the 987?

I think the Boxster is one of the most underrated cars around. For the price that you paid, there's not many convertibles that would match the fun of that car.
To get to our neighborhood from the main road from the west, one used to make a hairpin turn. I watched a Boxster take it at high speed with no lean. Great handling.

Haven’t watched yet, but who is we? The 987 is a fantastic car in both Boxster and Cayman forms.

I don’t know why people don’t like the Boxster, ya it may not be top of the line but it’s affordable, obviously reliable if taken care of, and looks good
Because people who can't afford either like to tell everyone that it's the Porsche for people who can't afford a 911.
Maybe 911 owners are just rich snobs lol I own a Hellcat Redeye but I don’t make fun of those people with Challenger R/Ts or SXTs
JR, respect for always having a neatly mowed lawn!
lol it's true, most people overlook that 👍
No, you have to open the top half way and then remove the panels covering the top of the engine.
What's wrong with the Boxster? I can see why people think the Panamera, Macan or Cayenne are a joke, but this is a true sports car.

Owning a Boxster is like owning a 996, Porsche guys hate them, but drive one and you'll soon see its still all Porsche, just amazing cars!
That's what kept me from buying a Cayman. I'm 6'1" and the footwell in the Cayman is just too tight 😕

Wow. Looks super nice for the miles and nice color combo. Always hated the first gen but the second and on aren’t bad looking at all
For at least the last 10 years its been pretty commonly known that the Boxster and Cayman are fantastic sports cars and usually receive at least a 9 or 10 out of 10 from almost every car magazine. Perhaps you are thinking of the Boxster from 20+ years ago when it first came out and was thought of as a hair dressers car. Current Boxters are amazing and perfected Sports Cars with ICE engines.

I absolutely despised the Boxster forever but it’s grown on me the last few yrs and is a bit of a new classic now
I did too. Then I test drove one...and it's sitting in my garage right now.
I have a manual 987 boxster base with 153k miles on it and it just keeps going. It’s such a fun purist car for the canyons. It’s underpowered compared to newer cars but who cares when you are having fun in the twisties. Upgrading the suspension and the shifter is a night and day difference with this car.
I’ve always liked the Porsche Boxster’s. However, that being said, when things inevitably break, I would rather have a my NB than a Porsche.
I have an 04 bosxster with the 5 speed manual. This is a fun car. And it doesnt kill you with maintenance. It really is fun to drive.
One visit to Brian’s garage with the 911s and the virus has spread 🤣
IMS with those miles isn’t really a concern in my opinion. In 2001, I bought a Boxster from a coworker that I was going to flip. Ended up driving it for 10 years. My 88 911 was more fun, but the modern AC, ease of driving and handling of my base 5 speed Boxster made me choose it more than the 911. Great choice in a Porsche!!
214k miles just a guess. I bought a 987.1 had it for like 6 years and it was great. Excellent driving cars.
Why did you judge this car before you drove it? The Boxeter saved Porsche from going out of business. People that talk out of inexperience are a dime a dozen.

I rented a Boxster S on Turo when I was in Portland back in April. It was one of the most fun sports cars I've ever driven.
This car's so good I think I'll sell it.
I'm seeing a pattern here.
The Boxster handles brillianty and flies around bends like a go cart, unlike a 911 where you have to a have a degree in physics in order for the rail heavy rear not to swing out and land you in a ditch!
John you can recover the SD and get the files.
This is what I was thinking. Usually you can get all if not most of the data after a simple quick format.
Recuva failed me, let it grind on the card for 2 hours and it never found the video I needed 😥

Also if you look at how Porshe has incrementally moved the pdk transmission so far forward over the rear axle making the 911 balance like the aforementioned. We won't even mention the useless rear seats.
Congrats man
With that username I’m sure you’ll appreciate it 💯
Love my 2010 987.2 S (DIT 3.4); Boxster is/was based on the 550 Spyder that’s much cooler than the 356 (what the 911 was based on).
If you drove one the joke was on them
Buddy, the Boxster is one of the most fun car I have driven, great handling, great power, coolest design and a blast to drive, glad you are a believer now
Saw this on your Instagram earlier couldn’t wait to see what happens next with this baby! If you properly take care of things it’ll last for another 250K plus!
Joke ?
I'm a Porsche veteran. Lemme tell you the Boxy is the best handling stock Porsche ever.
I don't understand why you are so dismissive of the Boxster - it's a lot of fun to drive!
On my ‘10 987.2 S drivers side as well. I just stop the top and push it in 😂
@@CorvetteGuy912 Exactly. That's what I have done for past 6 yrs. seems to work fine
I would love a Boxter. You watch how these things are going to be crazily sought after 20+ years from now...assuming we are still allowed to own an ICE car
Side note: Giving away a beautiful Grand National while requiring support for the ACLU is the cruelest thing I have heard of in some time
As that kid from the Simpsons says "haHA"
Your second white Porsche?
It is 💯
Ferdinand Porsche’s original dream = The 550 Spyder. The Boxster is the modern iteration of the 550. i’ve owned for about 15 years. I love it.
No 911 owner thinks the Boxster is a joke. They’re great cars.
Great video
I loved my 987.1, and would have another… but ended up with a 981 and love it too. Not as analog, BUT even MORE glued to the road.
Had an 04 2.7 boxster, great car, lovely engine noise, they drive really well
