The government's of countries like the uk don't want us to have diesel engines.
Simply because they can't totally control the price of whatever fuel you decide to put in it.
Has nothing to do with emissions or global warming.
      It's all about control.

      @dietznutz1 Місяць тому +10

@Absinthium-tu9uq adding a turbo would not make it more unreliable if done correctly but to build a good deisel costs a lot because of the high temps and pressures it has to withstand, supercharger would be bad for efficiency because of the parasitic loss, it would also be heavy. Good for a tourer

Always thought the thunderstar was the best diesel bike. Uncompromising attention to detail and weight. custom cases, frame etc. Was ahead of its time by a long way. Wonder who owns it now?
I built / converted 2 triumph tigers with smart car 800cc common rail engine and harley gearbox around 2010. The economics are difficult for a mass production bike with challenges like weight and also meeting stricter and stricter emissions controls. Petrol bikes are not far behind in fuel economy with manufacturers already experienced with production. Electric bikes are even simpler, cheaper, often faster and zero emissions (just without the same range).
    Nice video thanks.

I clicked this, thinking a new diesel bike was developed.
Which could be very possible because looking at companies such as Blacksmoke racing, it becomes clear that diesels can rev pretty high (despite of being more fuel efficient at lower rpm).
A 1000cc with over 250hp at 6000+ rpm lies well within range. Don't even think about what would be possible if the cilinder head was designed for power and revs instead of powering a fuel efficient passenger car.
But this is just repackaged old news, which is bummer. I read about this 20 years ago.

Twin scroll turbos address that issue. The throttle response on my BMW M57 that has been potholed and tuned is instant. As good or better than any petrol I've ever driven.
As an added bonus. Power stalling has the added benefit of spooling the turbos making the launch epic. Far, far better than any petrol engine could muster. Mated to an AWD chassis. You have a hellcat killer.

There are a few things ridiculous here.
First getting a Lupo engine from an insider. Because you know you couldn't just get a car and Pull out the Engine or Get an Engine from a crashed car. You had to pull the strings to get one. Lupo 1.2 TDi came out in 1999.
Second Starting a High performance Bike engine from a car design is Dumb, they are Not, especially Diesel ones. They are NEVER designed for Full Performance but Common use. Even the Ones like Mercedes OM605/606 come from the factory designed for durability and fuel consumption, and are very Undertuned from the Box.
So either the Channel owner if BS-ing a-lot or Starre is...
And its also not a novel idea, there were People Putting Mercedes Smart CDI engines in the BMW 90's K-Bikes since the layout was more car like with More traditional car-like Longitudinal engines, inline Clutches and Gearboxes. First time I saw one when I was a Kid in 1999 in Montenegro because we travelled there to the seaside. And 2 Germans had 2 BMW K100's with CDI engines in them arguing at the Fuel station with The Pump boys because they wanted to put Diesel in the Bikes, neither speaking English nor each others' language.
Smart CDI also came out in 1999. I wonder if they had Insiders too in Mercedes to get the engines.
It's actually even Better because it's a slap at BMW to put a better brand Engine in their Creation and satisfying at another level :)

A superbike needs a wide power bandwith. Diesel engines are the opposite.
    Better make an EV superbike

You forget that one of the most winning engines at Le Mans is a diesel engine

Diesel engines are not built or designed for Speed.. they are designed for Torque and power at low revs...

I think high cylinder count low displacement cylinders and high RPMs are the only way to make a diesel work in a motorcycle.

0:44 - It's 1,16L/100, no one in the metric world says "X" kms per litre. 😄

The idea of diesel performance bikes is dumb!
Diesel burns slower than gas, so peak rpm is very low. Since power is torque x RPM to get the same power torque must be increased. That means parts are heavier to reach the same power as gas.
No new tech is going to fix that!

Well on LMP1 Audi have done amazing with diesel that are crazy fast but sure it's not exactly as compact as a motorcycle bike which is a huge challenge...

@@paulscountry456 they won once and then they were given consessions so they didn't really compete with the petrol cars, they only won their class, which audi were the only ones in it!. It's was all a market ploy.

NO it dont accelerste as fast as superbikes 1 litres n/a unless they comapre it to one of first depend in which year this happen with superbikes which dosent have 200 hp asf but still even first r1 from 1998 stock have 150 hp and would beat on accelerwtion this thrunderstar regardless of its torq level 👌🏻😎 100-200 for 125 hp 205 kg bike with supersport fsiring is on 6-7 sec level dosent matter how much torq engine produce 👌🏻 but ot depend waaay more on how wide peak power is reallly 👌🏻 the woder the peak pwoer is the less gear can be setup with biger diffrences betwen them and on this accleerstion csn be better not thanks torq 🫣🤭it have acceelelrstion of superspprt 600 and topspeed so 250-260 km/h 👌🏻 with similar power 👌🏻 nothing more 👍🏻 200 hp 120 nm superbikes have 4 sec 100-200 km/h topspeed around 300 km/h … what makes this 250 nm ? at 125 hp pesk power level it just lowering rpms at which specified power is genersted be engine nothing more really and because this engine generate the same power as ss600 but on 2,5-3 times lower rpms it needs to have 2,5-3 times longer final gear ratio so when you drive it at 100 km/h at last gear engine dosent spin 5000 rpm like in ss600 but 2000 rpm 😉👍🏻 ok want precise data check gearing ss600 r6 stock 2006 so at 100 km/h engine spin 5750 rpm at which r6 have 33 hp +/- vs thinderstar cant found gearing but assuming above 5 k rpm thers not to much power/it drop very rspidly than at simialr pwoer level and whole resist level as in r6 it should have 2000 rpm around at last gear assuming at 2000 rpm it have 220 nm it have there 2 times more power than r6 at 5750 rpm so at this point at 100 km/h it accelrate +/- 2 times stronger than r6 despite +/- 2,5 times longer final gear ratio 👌🏻but offcorse its not max accelerstionbut just elasticity at last gear so useless stuff for racing at race track 👍🏻 its good for road when dont want to much downshifts 👌🏻 NOT for race track thats doffrence 😎👍🏻beside this thers no diffrences in max accelerstion both will do +/- 6-7sek from 100 to 200 km/on perfect gesring under the same test codnition weather rider weight asf 👌🏻 and topspeed around 250-260 km/h 👌🏻 only elasticity can differ for daily riding on the same gear (cos on the same final ratio so dosent matter which gear only engine rpm and speed must be the same 1,2 tdi beat offcorse be millle ss600 cos than ypu comapre feg 2000 rpm to 3000 rpm in both at the same speed where thud erstarr generste waaay more power than r6 or whatever which ss600 👌🏻 ) depend on power level at low and modrange rpm in regard togearing and topend power level wide and rpm limiter where it kick in base on this optimal gear ratio can be choice 👍🏻🍿 r6 for match 2000 rpm thunderstar eprformance must be on like 8000 -9000 rpm +/- avg speed through ttman course 177 km/h when ypu comapre it to supersport 600 records 216 km/h 🤭 🤷🏻‍♂️ but yea those records are probable 2020-2024 where tire was better asf plus supersport 600 arent stock bikes they have more like 150 hp probably than 120-125 hp still stock 600 ss at simialr tire go the same fast as this thunderstar 1200 tdi or even faster around ttman course thanks lower weight cos stock ss600 weoght like 190-195 kg probably 👌🏻….engine torq when it comes tp racing is a J O K E porpspgate be 350 kg h-d riders in mcdonalds and kfc 👍🏻not be people with knowledge on reall racetracks 😎👍🏻.
