In water, you gotta stay high in rpm. If it slows down, water will get in the pipe and then you need without enough exhaust pressure, she will "drown". I've had a lot of bikes/ATVs in a lot of water, its all good until it aint!!

@@AntiCoruptionCentral If it ingests water through the intake you can blow water past the rings, blow a head gasket, crack a cylinder wall or bend the connecting rod. Only thing that’ll prevent that is a compression release. Otherwise if it has enough water in the cylinder on the compression stroke then you’re looking at some damage. Water in the exhaust typically won’t do anything. Unless you’re exhaust valve is hung open for whatever reason

One thing you don't mention till later -- the tank says "JP8/Diesel". JP8 is jet fuel. It's not that you can jet-power the bike, but that you can find this on any military base! If they don't have diesel, they will definitely have JP8. So you will always have something to fuel the bike with.

    • @jasonmansfieldsr8645

In Desert Storm, we ran diesel in the trucks, jet fuel in the tanks and aircraft, and gasoline in the small engines (air compressors, etc.) and learned that it was much easier to fuel the force with jet fuel in all engines. The trucks were minimally modified and the small engines were replaced with small diesels and fed jet fuel.

Jet fuel is I think Kerosene modified a little but very similar to diesel.
In pre 1950's diesels on farms were ran on Kerosene then it got so overtaxed so diesel could take keros place. Kero I now 4 times the price of diesel only good for parts cleaning as it's so expensive.

    • @chadh3441

Jet-A is just a more refined diesel. If you look at the Bill Of Laden(BOL), when delivering jet fuel, you will see the description list it as kerosene. I delivered Jet-A all over Florida as a truck driver for almost 2 years. It's clear with a slight tinge of yellow. I actually put about 10 gallons of it in the 2007 Peterbilt 379 I was driving one day because the crossover switch valve went bad. It was enough to get me to the closest truck stop to fill up my driver's side saddle bag tank. The ol' truck loved it! Lol. Cheers

Since Sean didn't know where the air intake is located, and he mentioned diesels can run backwards doing damage, it made me think of diesels running away and exploding by unstoppable acceleration due to fuel injection pump failure with need to have an emergency shut off plate that closes over the intake to shut off air supply for engine to run, that made me wonder if those riding diesel motorcycles were trained in this regard?

  • @neilfromclearwaterfl81
    @neilfromclearwaterfl81 Рік тому +5

You shouldn't take those in deep water without the snorkel kit for the intake and exhaust. I understand it was done for entertainment and monetization but a bit more common sense and respect for the machine and those who got it running again might be appropriate. Its a rare motorcycle that appears to be appreciating in value so best to treat it nice and maintain that investment. Get a good battery in it as those diesel starters need more cranking amps than on a similar size gasoline engine plus they are often much, much more expensive to replace.
It was nice to see Craig, on his channel, helping the experts get it running again for Sean and to see he's still helping Sean out with projects despite Sean moving so far away due to some grievance with the State of Pennsylvania. Its good that Sean has a mechanic like Craig backing him up even from afar now.

18:23 Gives me flashbacks to almost 2 months ago where me and my buddy Nick went out and hit some trails. I was testing out my new dual sport (CRF250L) and I ended up getting it stuck in mud. It took what felt like hours before help arrived meanwhile we both were exhausted and dehydrated. Finally a group of people on 4-wheelers arrived and tugged my bike out but it wouldn’t start. Eventually, we roll started the thing a good handful of times and got it running. During this time, my other friend Tucker arrived on his street bike and took it down the trails to help us. Wild time.😅

I would definitely check the oil after that, for potential of water in that motor after it stalled in the creek.
Mainly through the pipe or even the air box.
I did just that 3 days ago in only 10 inches of water with the motor stopped to wash the mud off the bike it fell over on the right side and water quickly ran up the exhaust into the motor before I could lift it up, but the air box was dry.
Lucky it did not have hydrolic lock as it has no kick starter to feel it, only electric start which can bend the rod I believe, however it turned over but was reluctant to start for about a minute with the wet plug. I checked the oil level window was cloudy but had not added to its oil level height, so a little water got inside. I rode it home and dumped the milkshake color motor oil including the filter oil, then filled it with a cheap oil and reused the old oil filter, then heated the motor up running to steam off any milkshake residue moisture stuck inside the motor, then I dumped that oil and filter and checked it was all clear color, finally a new oil filter and new oil.
Years of deep water crossings and I've never had a problem because the golden rule I never stopped the motor running.
But this time it was a Big drama for a puddle of water.

IRL diesel bikes are a terrible choice for any outback because they're far less tolerant than petrol engines. Flood a petrol bike and you can pull the spark plug and crank it a few revs to clear the top end. Diesel compression ratios are FAR less tolerant and that engine was not designed as a diesel, but a retrofit. You can and many have removed and cleaned contaminated carbs on the road with very basic (Leatherman, JIS screwdriver etc hand tools any dirt biker carries. I wouldn't want a diesel motorbike if it were free except to sell to someone who isn't a mechanic so they don't know better.

Cut back to Craig and Sean starting it the "wrong way"....
Also Sean obviously didn't watch the video of this thing getting fixed, because not only were the cams out of time, it didn't shear a woodruff key, there was no key, so the starter was spinning the flywheel but wasn't turning the engine over. Either someone was into the engine before they got it, or this thing left the factory poorly assembled and was a ticking time bomb.

Really makes me wonder why they didn’t make more of them why the military didn’t use them cause I mean it runs on kerosene and bio diesel and everything that’s amazing. You could be riding that thing for free, and that many miles is insane to a gallon of diesel. That’s crazy pop a couple cans of diesel on there and you can go forever on that thing without having to stop bike without last the rider that’s for sure specially for vibrates like that.
