SIA & most big security companies add UA-camrs and drone flyers ..etc to the training. You're told to make yourself know and investigate the intent of the person. The concern is for hostile surveillance but someone standing right in front of the gatehouse openly showing what they are doing is quite unlikely to be doing that. Anyone with hostile intent doesn't want to be noticed and certainly wouldn't hang around to chat. This gets misunderstood to mean that filming is not allowed but that's not what the training says. CCTV operators also have a lot of rules regarding what they can and can't focus onto and need a reasonable suspicion to start following a subject or focusing on a particular area.
In most cases, remember the security person, on the gate for example is responsible for inside the premises, not outside. I know it didn't happen here, but I'm sure you know what I mean. Far too often, security bring themselves outside onto the public land, which frankly is not their domain so to speak. Then that's where it will get heated. The filming or drone flying aspect is mainly irrelevant. If it's outside so be it. I guarantee they wouldn't leave the comfort of the gatehouse to stop a member of the public walking the dog, or say two or more people chatting as they meet each other coming or going to work elsewhere. It all boils back to the camera, we all have one, however, if someone else uses it, it seems to cause issues for a lot of people. I see it as more of a social experiment, people see a camera, that they can't control, and try to stop them using it. However, I caveat that, if it said BBC etc on it they wouldn't walk up to them demanding for them to stop filming. That's where the experiment part comes in. People trust the BBC etc. but not Joe Bloggs with a camera. Again that could be another angle UA-camrs could experiment with, obviously they couldn't use a logo of BBC etc. but make up some fictional news organisation, wear a hi Viz with certain letters on it, claim they are some news network and see how it goes.
@@stuartbrown8259 I think them claiming to be something they are not would start to become more suspicious (re: the Hi-Viz idea). I'm not saying that anywhere outside of their boundaries is their responsibility but things happening outside can potentially have an effect on your premises either directly or indirectly. An example could be a car crash that damages a lamppost that could possibly fall onto your building or people entering or leaving. It's not your job to go out and breathalyse the driver but you probably want to investigate the potential danger from the lamppost. Same idea with the photographer or drone flyer, you don't go out and tell them what to do or think you can police them, but, you can let them know that you have seen them and put your mind at rest that they are not a risk.
@@AskFuzzy78 Yes no problem with going out to assist if required. I was a soldier once upon a time, especially here in Northern Ireland, we had people outside taking notes, filming movements from our camp. To us it wasn't a real issue. We observed and reported, roughly the same thing security are supposed to do? We certainly didn't go outside and try to stop them, they were in public. Ffs they could shoot at us in public, so no point stopping them taking pictures or notes. We had the place tooled up with CCTV, plus a squad of troops on standby should something happen. What they were doing outside was never our real concern, just nothing we could do. Ffs, these are just some business, no harm is intended, just leave the person outside alone.
@@stuartbrown8259 totally agree. It's a big thing at the moment for all security having anti-terrorism training and they do encourage you to observe and make them aware that you know they're being watched. It's much easier and safer as well as less intrusive to regular members of the public to just make sure all your security measures are in place and being used correctly and that anything you don't want to be seen is out of sight. I'm in security and I wouldn't dream of doing what these guys do but I would make sure I was available to ensure nobody from my site acted that way either. I totally understand why a company can be concerned but going out and questioning members of the public is not the way to deal with those concerns. If approached you can ask anything you may be concerned about but otherwise I'd only go over to ask for a keyring 🤣
@@AskFuzzy78 Thanks for that, but I'm still a big believer of security etc, stay indoors, on premises they guard. Technically nothing has really changed from what I mentioned earlier. By definition terrorism isn't interested in some building, company or whatever. They do whatever they do to put fear in the public. They do that by doing something in mass attendance events.
