Thanks for the review. I have one coming on Wednesday, so now even more looking forward to it. I had noticed they were in stock on Friday, ready for immediate shipping, but it looks like they are unavailable again today. I am really disappointed with the SSD setup, though. May need to Amazon Prime a 2TB SSD module, so thanks for pointing that out - I would have hated to find that out after spending few days setting things up.
I have recently ordered this exact Legion 7i configuration, basically the maxed out version. I will probably be receiving it in about a month, hopefully before my birthday January 31. I'm super excited to have it with me and enjoy it! :)
Thank you so much for doing a benchmark with the included SSDs, even if it's in RAID-0 I've at least got some idea what to expect for my 1 TB model. I'm still left with a decision of whether to go with a 1 TB 980 pro to take the PCIE 4 slot or stick with what's in there and get a nice gen 3 drive, but now I'm a bit more informed.
Finally got mine on order, arriving Tue, was on blowout sale but only for the 3070 win 11 model, 11800H. I already have 64Gb of kingston hyper impact to put in, and a 2TB 970 evo in the second slot. I really like how you know what you are talking about, but yet again, like every reviewer, you didn't show us the drive bays without a drive in them so we could see how deep they are and if they'd fit a dual sided ssd, as I want to also replace the factory 1Tb with a 2TB, and the spare one I have is sabrent which is dual sided. Just a thought for future.

Can you please tell me if the sharpness and clarity of the text is as good or better than your 4k monitor? Would appreciate your feedback. Thanks.

I Have one request tho, it is said this monitor is HDR dolby-vision, although i see 8 bits in your cover, perhaps because of the 165hz mode ? You can set it to 10-bit color at 165Hz. The color gamut measures the same with my SpyderX Pro. HDR is underwhelming; it essentially turns the brightness up to max, and it has so few local dimming zones that you hardly notice the HDR effect.
Oh, yes, you could either control the RGB using iCUE, or you can use the Fn + arrow up/down keys to control the RGB at a system level. If you use the Fn key to control it, you can set it to not light up at any point.

This is a little upsetting. I have one of these on the way with the 2TB config too. No where on their site do they mention this. Did you change the raid in the bios and reinstalled windows off a thumb drive before you installed another 2TB drive?
I did. Here are the steps. 1. Make a clone or disk back-up of your drives 2. Destroy the RAID first (remove both drives from the array) in the BIOS a. Under the Storage+ menu in the BIOS. You select the RAID array, then on RAID options select delete. It should remove both drives from the array. Then you can change the VMD setting. 3. then switch the VMD to disabled. It will automatically enable AHCI 4. Then just save, reboot and install Windows as normal.
@@requiemx5822 yeah I did that. For some reason everything works except for the fn+r shortcut for the screen refresh rate. 😞. Lenovo is trying to tell me my model doesn’t support it. Kinda makes me angry
It depends the MSi is great so long as you dont do anything CPU intensive MSI unfortuantly decided to only put two heat pipes on the CPU in thier current models. From what iv been reading this causes the CPU to thermal trottle if the cpu is working at 100%.
One thing I can't find any info on is what the Cas latency and timings are for the 32gb ram the prebuilt comes with. Are you able to take your ram out and look at the stickers on them to verify? Crucial ram upgrade kit is still a Cas of 22 which is quite high and I'm not sure if it's worth another 185 dollars.
Is call of duty supporting the 16:10" ratio ? Or is it putting on 2 black bars ?? How do u fell the 16" screen ? Is it fine or a little small for competitive gaming ? Would u racomand a 17" laptop ? Thanks
Yes, Call of Duty supports 16:10. I have about two dozen games installed, and I believe all of them support 16:10. I think the 16” screen size is big enough for competitive gaming, but of course a bigger screen would always be better, if you are willing to deal with the other trade-offs.
@@PeytonB thanks for the quick response! Yeah I know . But in order to get the 17.3" i should switch to an alienware and I notice that for the same specs the price goes up allot so I think I gonna stay with le legion. I'm pretty much just a warzone player And probably the new battlefield. Do u think the 3080 is necessary or would the 3070 be good enuff ?👌 Thanks again.
I don’t know much about either, but if I were to guess, I’d think the performance difference between the two is negligible. I would choose whichever costs less.
Superb review! The performance at 1600p being close to a desktop 3090 configuration at 4K is incredible too, I would assume that the AMD version would get similar fps at 1600p since it's not as CPU bound as 1080p, in which case there might be a clear winner for both performance and battery life, but that's just speculation. I've got the Legion 5 Pro 3070 140W, but planning on getting the Legion 7 due to the aesthetics mostly, however I'm aware of the iCUE issue impacting battery life, are you able to set the keyboard + vents RGB to White without iCUE, or does that require the software to be running? Also, is it possible to turn on or off the RGB individually (keyboard, vents) without iCUE? (In case you want either only the keyboard, keyboard + vents, or off).
You can completely uninstall iCUE and still have the ability to change the keyboard and vents to all white. This is exactly as I have it set up right now. Unfortunately, you cannot turn off only the vent lights without turning off the keyboard lights (without iCUE installed). I wish you could. I should have looked when I had the bottom cover open, but I suspect there’s a small wire somewhere that can be unplugged which would cut power to the vent lights.
@@PeytonB I see, that's a bummer indeed for when you might wanna use it outside with the keyboard backlighting on, but I guess it's a small price to pay. Yeah there should be wires going to the lights on the vents since it's gotta be connected somehow. Either way, thanks! The fact that you can set it to all white is what I needed to know the most.
When the Legion 7i pre-built model was available to order in mid-July, it was shipping within 5-7 business days. Custom-built models are the ones with long shipping times.
Yes, I am fairly certain you could upgrade the RAM to 64GB. The only thing to keep in mind is that the BIOS does not currently have an option to enable XMP, so you will want to find JEDEC-compliant modules.
Hey I did what you said but I reinstalled windows from scratch and now the fn+r key doesn’t work to put the display into 60hz mode. Thoughts? I have Lenovo vantage and the hot key software installed from the windows store
I think this is actually a feature that doesn't exist in the L7 or probably some issue that they all have. I have the L7i with an i7 and I did not even reinstall windows or anything it is still stock with Vantage and Hot Keys and Fn + R does nothing. But this is not much of an issue for me though
@@thesexyskywalker3283 that’s interesting since people on Lenovo’s forum have the exact same issue with the AMD version of the 7, 5 and 5 pro, which all have the exact same screen. Something doesn’t add up
Legion 7 AMD R7 5800H with RTX 3070 or legion 7i Intel i7 11th gen with RTX 3070 ? I'm thinking of a desktop replacement for designing and gaming. Which one should I choose ??
@@PeytonB yeah I seen it but for me only confusion is , I'm new to thunderbolt port . I never used it before . I don't know if I will use it now or later . Is it worth that much ?

Your guess is as good as mine haha
Does fn+R working in this?
And does it has a mux switch?
This is a little upsetting. I have one of these on the way with the 2TB config too. No where on their site do they mention this. Did you change the raid in the bios and reinstalled windows off a thumb drive before you installed another 2TB drive?
I did. Here are the steps.
1. Make a clone or disk back-up of your drives
It will automatically enable AHCI
4. Then just save, reboot and install Windows as normal.
@@requiemx5822 yeah I did that. For some reason everything works except for the fn+r shortcut for the screen refresh rate. 😞. Lenovo is trying to tell me my model doesn’t support it. Kinda makes me angry
think they corrected that issue, I got only 1 2 tb drive in C, and nothing else.
Struggling to decide. This or the GE76 MSI. Even though the MSI is £1000 more :( not sure if the extra price is worth it )
It depends the MSi is great so long as you dont do anything CPU intensive MSI unfortuantly decided to only put two heat pipes on the CPU in thier current models.
CPU-Z says Cas latency is 22

From the other reviews I’ve seen, the 3070 Legion 7 has very good performance. I would only recommend the 3080 if you can afford it.
Last question 🤣 would u go for the wifi 6 11 AX and the Bluetooth 5.0 or the Killer wifi 2x2 AX and the Bluetooth 5.1?
I don’t know much about either, but if I were to guess, I’d think the performance difference between the two is negligible. I would choose whichever costs less.
Amazing and very informative video, rha ks
The 7i does not exist in Europe?
HI CAN I KNOW WHAT THE APP YOU USE TO SHOW FPS & CPU & GPU USE ?
MSI afterburner.
Intel version got a slow Ram too ??
What known issue with the cpu? Please go more details
The Intel Core i9 option tends to run very hot and can thermal throttle.
Has there been any Throttling?
So which, intel or amd version
How were you able to get it so soon? It showed it would be shipped in 3 months
When the Legion 7i pre-built model was available to order in mid-July, it was shipping within 5-7 business days. Custom-built models are the ones with long shipping times.
How to undervolt 11800h on Legion 7 this gen?
What about price?
Just a quick Q... can the RAM be upgraded to 64gb RAM? I am aware that Lenovo say 32GB max, but I could use a pro's advice - thanks!
Yes, I am fairly certain you could upgrade the RAM to 64GB. The only thing to keep in mind is that the BIOS does not currently have an option to enable XMP, so you will want to find JEDEC-compliant modules.
Did you consider the lenovo x1 extreme gen 4?
No, I wanted a gaming laptop with a high-wattage RTX 3080.
Jarrod has mentioned that the icue software was updated recently so the battery drain issue is fixed can you please confirm this?
As i know no it was not fixed, i see my laptop drain battery quicker than expected

I’d recommend Jarrod’s Tech’s video comparing the performance of each.
@@PeytonB yeah I seen it but for me only confusion is , I'm new to thunderbolt port . I never used it before . I don't know if I will use it now or later . Is it worth that much ?
Do you use external storage often? In my opinion, unless you use super fast external storage (such as an NVMe SSD), then Thunderbolt is not a major selling point.

Is the ram upgradable from 32gb if so how much more ram can you add?
Yeah, you can install 2x 32GB modules. XMP is not supported, though, so probably your only option is “KF432S20IBK2/64” by Kingston.

How is the battery drain on corsair ICUE software?
I have the same laptop and with icue it is like 2.5 hours at best with 60hz and igpu mode. It uses around 30-33 watts idling with icue and without around 13-15 idling. Huge difference
Others were mentioning an update to iCUE that supposedly fixed this issue. Do you have any comment on this? I do not have iCUE installed, nor do I use my laptop on battery.
@@PeytonB I’ll reinstall and test it but I personally don’t have high hopes with Corsair software. I wish they would have never paired with them for rgb.
@@PeytonB icue has not been resolved. I took screenshots from hwinfo that shows icue installed draining the battery at 45 watts and when uninstalled 12 watts. These are idle with screen brightness at half and keyboard lights on. When icue is installed the GPU is being used and pinged. I tried to find and changed all the corsair services to use the integrated gpu but that did not work. Nvidia GPU indicator is also saying no program is using it but icue is hitting it and makes the gpu draw power when it should not do anything. I have screen shots if you want them
No need for screenshots, just wanted to know if the rumors are true that iCUE was fixed. I appreciate you checking!
