Great stuff, Alex! Thanks. Here are the 8 things listed
    1. the music industry is always a few steps behind-i.e., influencer marketing.
    2. keep it professional-wait to party; go home and work on our craft.
    3. it takes years to break an artist-some stories start five years before the artist’s break.
    4. artists need to be more raw on social media
    .
    5. you don’t need connections to break as an artist-build a following-add value to your audience
    6. the truly influential people in the music industry are-not cool!-kind of nerdy; they know about technology, marketing. It’s not about being cool, it’s about adding value to the music industry: what skills have you researched?
    7. trying to look like a big established artist is a mistake. Make sure you can sell out venues in your local area first.
    8. In the music industry, the numbers are inflated.

Good common sense stuff that often gets forgotten. Some of this desire for fake numbers comes from a lack of self esteem. Be proud of who you are and where you are on the journey. Music is a joyful process not a race.

Why is partying even a conversation in this industry. Partying doesn't get the job done. Especially if your music isn't even being played at these parties. The game is focus and hard work, not partying.

    • @Burstimo
      @Burstimo  4 роки тому +11

I'm in my 30th year of pursuing my music. During these years the main focus was on my careers which included 12 years as a mountain guide and avalanche forecaster then leaving this profession and taking my skills into the fire service where I spent 27 years finally retiring as a fire captain. I obviously had family commitments as well which included providing care to a younger brother who had brain cancer and then to my father as he aged. Any opportunity I got to step away from these commitments I spent writing songs. In the past 4 years I was able to dedicate all of my time to my art and currently have 30 songs recorded and ready for vocals which obviously become new releases. I have over a hundred videos on youtube, and another 50 songs completed with the help of celebrity players out of LA, Nashville and Dallas. I have all the boxes checked and most important of all I'm rich in content and quality of craft. Patience and a real commitment to what it is you have to say wins the day. For now I'm not on any social media or 'platform' as I'm still undecided on how best to present my art. For now people can listen to my songs start to finish, view the videos for free, there's no ads, no buy buttons, don't have to subscribe, don't have to like and don't have to provide an email address. My art is pure and I own all the publishing. If you want a link to this amazing content I'll check back in a couple of days to see if you want me to send you a link. Keep up the great work, I have found your words and advice most helpful.

    Psalmist Eric Austin
    Tweten on Twitter
Eric has enjoyed music and the arts for as long as he can remember. He grew up in a Christian home listening to his father sing and whistle around the farm, in the garden, or repairing buildings and vehicles. He enjoyed going to camps, concerts and revival meetings in his early years. It was in his youth that he started writing songs, poetry and short stories. He learned guitar at an early age from a youth pastor. It was evident that God had His hand in developing Eric’s talent for His glory.
Growing up in Eric’s shoes wasn’t always easy. He jokes that he has suffered sports injuries like a coffee shop only serves coffee… they don’t serve just coffee and there's a lot to choose from as his injuries go above and beyond just sports. Between the ages of 18 and 29 he was in and out of the hospital do to concussions.
Through all of the trials and tribulations, Eric has been steadfast in ministry since his childhood, as he started ministering to his peers at an early age. As a peer youth leader, he contributed his time and talent as an editor and contributor for the newsletter of his youth group and helped lead a regional youth gathering called Nitro Happenings. Eric has started and led many Bible studies and prayer groups throughout his life. God has used him to lead worship at several events, minister salvation to all ages, mentor youth and be a role model to many. He continues to use him as a shining light in his community and on the web. Eric has been in full time ministry with Young Adult Koninenia, Source, and the Extreme Tour.
Having written two hours’ worth of original music he has experience in writing Americana, inspirational, conversational, subtle evangelism, graduation music, worship and intersession. His skills are beyond his years of training as he has had little formal training. While he has had a wonderful life, he has been through a lot of heart ache and has been healed by the blood of The Lamb. It shows up powerfully in his music. He is a rising star as God is using him in a mighty way.
His sound has been likened to Rich Mullins, Ten Shekel Shirt, Enter the Worship Circle, Chris Tomlin, Matt Redman, Jason Upton, and Jeremy Riddle. Eric studied at the same school as Rick Pino and Nicole C Mullins. In the past he has used the same music studio as Rick Pino and Michael Tyrell (a guitarist for Jason Upton). While he has worked with artists such as Gallery Cat, Grant Adams, Cornbread Harris, Five Men in Black, Jesse Abraham from 12 Stones, Endoxos, True Serva, Camp Welch, and Ben Tucker. Eric was the only rookie to play the show where it was announced that Cornbread Harris would be inducted into the Minnesota Music Hall of Fame. Eric has enjoyed performing at venues such as The Fine Line (a Prince club), Station 4, Fallout Urban Art Fest,The Beat, Corner Coffee, The Nicollet (where he had a running gig every Saturday at noon), JJs Coffee & Icecream (where he had a running gig every Sunday at 3pm), 7 times at the MN State Fair in one year, from Minnesota to Mexico and beyond, among other international shows. Eric recently just received an invitation to record with a producer who has worked with Chris Tomlin, Charlie Daniels, The Swampers out of Muscle-shoals, etc.
Currently Eric enjoys spending his time outdoors while camping, hiking, biking, fishing and swimming. But first he is a worshiper at heart, as a man after God’s own heart, a lover of God and his fellow man.

I did this mistake numerous times last year when doing my first shows. This year one of my goals is to follow this advise! It will sound ridiculous, but i have a show booked in March and i cant wait to not party after and leave earlier hahahaha. And its totally true, waking up early next day and going straight to work again just feels so damn good and inspiring.

In a way I was the classic Forest Gump that would sprint between classes in the hallway because I thought I was going to be late. One time I ran the wrong direction in an official school basketball game when I had the ball and motioned to my whole team to go the wrong way when we had just got back from halftime and were supposed to go the opposite direction, yet I beat our star point guard in a pick up game on the side during an all day three on three tournament. In grade school I was put in title one which is for struggling students. When I was a child I fell off the side of the stairs because my grandparents hadn't put a railing on it. I smacked my head on a metal bed frame once while jumping on the bed. My brother threw a piece of firewood directly at my face once while we were stacking wood. I was in and out of the hospital multiple times between the ages of 18 and 28. I would sprint past everyone in football practice and everyone would say to slow down because it's all about technique yet the only game we won my senior year was the only game that I was ever in the starting line up. I had multiple sports injuries and played multiple sports. I maintained a B average. Was in drama club. Was in choir. I took guitar lessons. Was a lifeguard. Was an editor and contributor to the youth group newsletter. I was a peer youth leader and helped lead a regional youth rally called Nitro Happenings. I have gone to multiple Bible camps and Christian concerts and music festivals and revival meetings and retreats centers and resorts throughout my youth and my life in general. I started prayer and Bible study groups in my local public high school and college. I graduated high school and college with honors. I majored in liberal arts, Bible, and design technology. I had an internship in land surveying and worked in Engineering firms for a season. I then got laid off in the housing crash and started working retail sales and management. I went on three missions trips to do kids club at a Native American Reservation. I went on a missions trip to Mexico. I finally got a job as an assistant manager at a Christian coffee shop where we hosted a hip hop and break-dancing night, open mics, concerts, prayer gatherings, introduction to Christianity, and a recovery group, then that ministry moved a couple times and changed into a neighborhood revitalization ministry. During that time I was going to a different coffee shop where there was a prayer room where I would pray for the city. I also had a printing business for about 8 years amidst all that and beyond. Then I had a summer internship at a Christian art center. It was a campus spread across a neighborhood where there was a famous art college and museum nearby separate from the art center campus I worked for. The art center ministry has art galleries and music venues and art studios for rent, community meals, a church, community housing, intern housing, transitional housing, open mics, concerts, prayer gatherings, a prayer room, a art festival with live music, and summer kids club. After two years there I went back into layman's work and got multiple promotions. During that time I was helping with a 24/7 prayer church with a worship open mic and prayer gatherings. Prior to that I was a prayer captain for a 24/7 phone prayer chain. I also helped with the Twin Cities House of Prayer as a back up guitarist, etc, and helped with other prayer rooms. Then I got called to Nashville for my music and was there for a short time but got called home for a family emergency. I got a job in sales at a music store, and also I was the executive secretary at an art center and doing freelance videographery. I was on the board of directors at an art center. I helped host open mics and played concerts at local venues and at art events in my hometown area there. I was on a missions media committee. I visited my girlfriend in Kenya and did missions there and played concerts there at a church and an orphanage, and I proposed to my girlfriend in front of a waterfall on a coffee plantation by her parents house. I had known my now fiance for about four years prior to our engagement. When I got back from Kenya I got called back to Nashville and was a volunteer support staff for a music tour out of Nashville and I have been invited to record with a producer who has worked with Chris Tomlin and Charlie Daniels and The Swampers out of Muscle-shoals. So God does do miracles and I am living proof. All glory to God! All thanks be to God! Thank you Lord God Almighty with all that I am and have!

    • @kimberleychoudhury3358

Carlos Ramos I think u should stick to more polished content, and then try to put out more “raw” adverts on ur honest opinions, ur unique politics etc, or social media posts. (And subtly add raw lines and lyrics on emotion, into songs as a sprinkling, to combine the rawness of truth, with a polished approach to production) I find raw lyrics n social media posts are the best raw forms of content , but with an overall consistently polished content creation timeline u can stand out and be noticed too
Polished metaphors are a good way to include some rawness within the polished approach. Ying n yang approaches there’s good in bad and there’s rawness within the polished approach, subtly

Thanks for your video, excellent quality as always.
I have a question for your last point. Inflating numbers by buying fake streams/followers is bad, no doubt about that. But what do you think about buying a promo that also generate Spotify saves or comments and likes under a UA-cam video? The saves and comments are an indicator that real people are consuming the content, so is this "boost" of number healty or still bad?
    Thanks!

Question I couldn’t find in your videos? Direct me if I’m wrong but ... You get a distributor or cd baby / distro kids etc ... but what’s he best way to register a song? Most people say BMI ? (Im a U.K. artist) is BMI the same as PRS for music & PLL in the U.K.?
Or is their a distribution company that covers this at the same time so you can save money ? I get confused with all of this. 🙈😂 sorry x

Great advice as always. I never read music blogs. Can you recommend some good marketing books that aren't focused on the music business that we can learn from?

    Brilliant video.
I've heard that Spotify monitor particular blogs and artists featured often end up on Spotify playlists come release day, those blogs are known only to Spotify, not even the blog owners are aware.
    Any truth in that @Burstimo?

look up Ramzoid for a phenomenal example of an artist building a youtube following :) he makes videos about production that are often silly, and sometimes vlogs!

The few times I read a music blog is for the insights or tips on the music industry. All my music discovery happens either on social media, streaming or word of mouth. NONE of my friends who like to listen to music also read a music blog. This first point has opened my eyes so much!
