Damian has some great ideas. Another good way to connect is through UA-cam, comment sections like this one. Comment on other artists' work and meet their fans. Start conversations and then ask them if they would listen to your new songs and comment on them. It takes a long time to attract subscribers this way, but it is a personal way of connecting with possible fans. (Of course, a lot of men try to pick me up, but I am honest with them right off the bat. They usually take it well.) Good luck, everyone!
I think the best way to get people to hear your stuff is to actually not think or talk about it, and instead, trying to help someone out there as best as you can, just like you would do with a friend. I think it then becomes more about asking yourself the question: "how can I impact or change the world", which is more inspiring/motivating than saying: "how can I promote this?". This can really change your perspective and how people can perceive and engage with your music.
@@RicardoNevesMusic This is true. I think most artists have both in mind, though: the artistic, altruistic sense and the business sense. To succeed, you need to address both. I'm a 62 year old singer songwriter about to release music to a super small support base. Your vid caught my attention. Thanks for these suggestions. Sometimes I don't understand what you are referring to due to the fact that I'm not on all types of social media and some of your terminology - for the experienced - goes over my head lol. Any suggestions or strategies for an older artist? ?
I can't thank you enough. Last October I started my own thing after 28 years of being a musician and going through all the legalities and the business side so I am walking blindfolded. So thank you very much! I am walking blindfolded. So thank you very much for the sound advice!
A later starter like me :) I just started releasing songs that I wrote 20 years ago. I just wish I was a better musician, I got mostly session artists to do my last Neo-soul song (soon to be released)
Very helpful tips. In the Russian-language UA-cam there is no such content. Thanks to you, Damian, I improve my English and promote my music🤘🏼 Value is the key, guys😉

Hey Damian!! This is Cincinnati band TasteFull, a group of college students that have the talent and want to make it. We’ve been watching your videos for months, preparing a strategy for our debut album release in April. Thanks for all you do
Thank you for the comment about the covers, I always felt the same way, but always had musos around me with these opinions about cover songs, doing lots of covers, makes you a better artist over time...
After seeing this,I'm just gonna go do it. I just write and play songs in the basement when my kid goes to sleep as a form of detoxing from the long day. Why not put a few legit looking socials together, turn on the cell camera, sing, post and see if I can pass it around. The worst they can do is say no. Great vid! Thanks for what you do!
It’s super hard getting started, especially if you are completely independent and still have other responsibilities. I’ve just started college and I’ve also recently released my first two songs, putting in about 100 hours into both of them combined, and both still have under 1000 listens on Spotify 😒 It’s pretty demotivating but I hope I can get somewhere sometime soon so I’m not just wasting time tryna make my songs perfect for nobody to listen to them

This is the best video, I really appreciate this content. It really goes around the bullshit of what a lot of other ppl don't talk about. Thank you very much ✨
Honestly, I'm not start-up anymore, and this stuff is still the most effective for my music than shooting for the stars. I do that sometimes too, but things like going live on my fb and talking about my new music reaches the most engaged audience. They actually care.
Great advice! I play acoustic covers in bars and parties and people often ask me when my own album with my own songs will come out. Covers are a good start to get people used to your vocal style and your musical persona. Thanks for all your great tips!
Thank you so much, i have been trying to find a video on this but every one i found didint give any advice at all, they just say "so you post music and no one listens" in a million different ways. Then they end the video after wasting my time by telling me absolutely nothing on how to gain fans. but this video gives me so much to think about and use that i wonder why someone would give away this info for free. either way I'm grateful you did so once again, thank you so much for this
We are currently implementing the 30 day release strategy with rolling releases every 30 days. After releasing two albums and EPs under the traditional model. Glad to hear your thoughts. Also enjoying being part of your exclusive Facebook Group. Keep up the good work.
It's not that hard... if you do it online... Start somewhere, and start before. Or when you're actually capable of making music, you won't know how or who to approach and promote... ;P Just a tip.
I lost my mom earlier this year. She was a single mother of 4 boys and really passionate about music. She was always really supportive of me playing on a drum kit every day after school. Even if she needed to get sleep for her night job, she would tell me "Wait 5 minutes and I'll be asleep and then you can start playing." Sure enough every time, 5 minutes shed be asleep and Id start banging on the drums for 45 min straight. Id check to make sure I didnt wake her and every time she'd be in a deep asleep. Anyway I feel I turned my back on music composition for the last 15 years going thru life up until losing her. As a way to process my feelings thru grieving I started producing music in a DAW and its been incredibly fulfilling up to this point. I honestly found myself again and I can still thank her for that.
This is perfect!!! I'm hoping to release my first record (under the name Two Eyes Open) March 27th, with the first single around early March. Perfect perfect perfect. I had been making my own version version of your other video but this is more tailor-made for my situation. 🖤 Thanks so much!!

It feels so nice to finally be putting this out there and I'm very happy with how the recording process is coming along so far. One of my songs that is gojng on this EP was written in 2013 but hasn't yet seen the light of day because I've always allowed others or myself to get in my way. But I set the deadline this time and I'm really doing it. I've got albums of songs ready to go and I'm very excited to hopefully resonate with some people. 🖤

I'm loving your videos brother, I've been obsessing with fine tuning a pile of tracks and watching your content helps me get my mind jogging on marketing without pulling myself too far away from the music, really appreciate it. The content, the perspective, the delivery, all spot on. It even talked me out of dropping an EP and into focusing on preparing a group of singles to consistently build momentum and open my approach to building that momentum. I really can't thank you enough.

I got given your books for Christmas because I’d seen a couple of your videos last year and mentioned them to my family. I’ve only just read them both over the last few days whilst on holiday. Hopefully it’ll light a fire under my arse and get me running after what I want again. Keep doing what you’re doing Damo, you’re a boss.
Damian Keyes no worries mate. I’m one of the lucky ones. I already earn a living from playing doing covers at weddings and stuff and it took a long time to get here but I know I’m my heart, I can’t do covers forever. Gotta keep writing and trying my own stuff. For me, the covers is my day job and my original material is my passion. So time to up the grind on that side of things a bit more. The chapter about ‘the power of free’ really struck a chord because that’s how we did it to start yet now, when I’m starting again for some reason my brain didn’t reset and I guess I kind of expected to be paid what I normally do when it’s not realistic to expect that. Or at least not yet. So I guess I’ve got to up the grind and get my head down again. So thanks for talking some sense into my arrogant ass because I guess I needed it.
Love the discussion of building value for your product and using basic marketing techniques that seem to get lost in all the other minutia of the music industry!
Thank you Damien for providing us so much value. It's really a blessing to have these guiding messages now, and to be reminded of the joy of this process. It's so easy to get caught up in the constraints of the artistic process and go completely off track of where you were trying to reach!
Thanks Damian! This was what I needed to see. I've finished a song and video after a long hiatus from the music industry. I was on Sony and Warner Chappel Australia years ago and released 2 albums. After touring and promotion for 5 years I ran into legal problems and eventually left my career. I have kept writing but just lived my life for several years. Friends have encouraged me and helped me do some music on my own recently but things have changed so much with technology and social media. Listening to this video clarified for me that I should just put the video on UA-cam and sign up with CD baby then go from there. So thank you. Very much appreciate your channel.
Well, I might already have a fanbase of 3 people, but damn it's hard to get your music heard. I think the key to grow your audience is consistency. Once you have a lot to offer people will take you more serious as an artist :)
You did the right thing by adding a video on your UA-cam profile, and Spotify link, this is simple thing, then do some good comments on other people's videos you might get some more view. It takes time, keep writing and try to release some more songs or versions of existing songs, something every 3-6 months if you can. Keep going, I know how hard it was to get those Spotify listeners, but that is over half way to 100.
I'm about to start promoting my content and watching videos like this to build my competency in social media marketing. Your tip on getting your fam and friends to share is so simple but something I honestly wasn't even thinking about. 👏
I feel like consistency is the best way in the soundcloud method/collaboration and social media outreAch. Just a feeling tho i released 7 songs consistently then stopped cuz i moved lol
Chris Topher I don't really have a plan but I'm not really trying to sell my music either. Mind you, I'd be pretty excited if someone actually paid to download one of my songs 😂
@@christopher8700 Is soundcloud even slightly useful for growth? I've always just thought of it as another way of finding someone's music, unreleased tracks, or finding really bad music lol
Ive been watching you for a bit here and besides your knowledge, the other thing i love about your content is that i can use it, use it right now, and use it for free (with an option to join later). It's pure gold and ive used it (with trial and error) over the last year plus and while ive not seen an explosion, ive seen my content develope, my voice and presentation mature, "risks" are no longer risks - just something i do, and i still stongly believe that this is all still working FOR me and not against. @@DUANEYAISER Well, this was an honest comment coming from my heart. 😄 We still need months to record our first song properly, soo yea. Also, I cannot really write to Damian on UA-cam. I'll rather do it on ig like he suggested it.
Power Metallistic Teasing! But it would show you’re applying the video’s lesson. 😀 Good luck on the song and/or songs. Keep us updated! What’s your band name?
I love that your advice is in real time for so many of us who are releasing music at the moment
Thanks so much James! Really appreciate it man 😊😊
that was so beautiful the way you worded how you felt when you first heard rage against the machine and "enter sandman"
Learnt so much from your channel I cant thank you enough. Released my third single from my upcoming album and was able to get a good video done too. All the best to hustlers out here ♥
This video is absolutely amazing. These are all foolproof, tried and true methods! Even though I am a producer not an artist, I was able to take an entire page worth of notes from this video. I highly recommend this video, it has been a long time since I have seen such a helpful clip. Make sure you watch all the way through!
What's the difference between producer and artist? I guess I don't see it since I'm solo. An artist "produces" music, no?
Mikeureko ASM recently launched a music blog, they now are accepting submissions! Alexisseas.bandzoogle.com
Incredible content, Damian! When I started looking up these questions on UA-cam I really didn't expect finding such straight forward and honest content on it. You're a career creator!
Great advice! I have been too busy to do my original music for years (hides from Damian's wrath) but recently I decided to take a few months out from my regular work. The difference in the results I'm getting from dedicating all of my focus and time on getting people on side, booking gigs and building a bit of a following ahead of releasing my first recording. Your videos have really helped mate I look forward to many more!
Oh my gosh thank you!! I have maybe 20 people that rock with me. That’s it. I have approaching 1500 ig followers, but most are not “fans”. I haven’t even shared my true sound yet. I’ve been beside myself. This helps so so so much!
9:21 Almost flawless Arnold impression😁🎶!
This is actually what I need to grow my Musical Career.
Thank you very much sir.
Great advice! We released stuff before but as we're still building an audience this info is huge for us!
Thanks so much!! Keep me in the loop 😊😊

I can't thank you enough. Last October I started my own thing after 28 years of being a musician and going through all the legalities and the business side so I am walking blindfolded. So thank you very much! I am walking blindfolded. So thank you very much for the sound advice!
A later starter like me :) I just started releasing songs that I wrote 20 years ago. I just wish I was a better musician, I got mostly session artists to do my last Neo-soul song (soon to be released)
Very helpful tips. In the Russian-language UA-cam there is no such content. Thanks to you, Damian, I improve my English and promote my music🤘🏼

Much needed advice thank you! Aiming to record a debut album this year, and this video has really helped give me some direction with it 👍🏻
Awesome!! Let me know how it goes 😊😊
Hey Damian!! This is Cincinnati band TasteFull, a group of college students that have the talent and want to make it. We’ve been watching your videos for months, preparing a strategy for our debut album release in April. Thanks for all you do
I didn't know how much I needed this before I watched it
Thanks so much dude!
I just got my super out to invest in my music and thank god i watched this before hand!
Thanks a lot for the videos, really truely very helpful :)
The hustle is real
Thank you for the comment about the covers, I always felt the same way, but always had musos around me with these opinions about cover songs, doing lots of covers, makes you a better artist over time...
After seeing this,I'm just gonna go do it. I just write and play songs in the basement when my kid goes to sleep as a form of detoxing from the long day. Why not put a few legit looking socials together, turn on the cell camera, sing, post and see if I can pass it around. The worst they can do is say no. Great vid! Thanks for what you do!
Yesss 🙌🏼Attitude/belief is the first step imo :)
Yep, you just gotta go for it! 🙌🙌
A true master of communication and music marketing strategy, thank you for all these words.
Thanks so much Aron that’s really kind of you 😊😊😊
It’s super hard getting started, especially if you are completely independent and still have other responsibilities. I’ve just started college and I’ve also recently released my first two songs, putting in about 100 hours into both of them combined, and both still have under 1000 listens on Spotify 😒 It’s pretty demotivating but I hope I can get somewhere sometime soon so I’m not just wasting time tryna make my songs perfect for nobody to listen to them
you are so brave and hardworking!
You never know who might listen to it. Gotta do things that fulfill you or it's all for not
I'm actually really new and just found this video.
But I actually released my first single without any fans and its been really tough so far.
Its good to find more valuable info and videos like this though, will keep in mind for the future!
Thanks Damian, always delivering quality content! I think this might be one of your best videos so far especially for engagement, this whole comment section is full of people soaking up the value you're dropping here, awesome!
Thanks so much! Means a lot honestly 😊😊
Thanks Damian! The over-riding message is about networking and losing the ego so we can all learn together. A perfect remedy to the segregated mentality of so many in 2021
This is the best video, I really appreciate this content. It really goes around the bullshit of what a lot of other ppl don't talk about. Thank you very much ✨
This guy has so much to offer feel like he's turning me into a millionaire
I needed to see this. I’m releasing my first track soon and was so confused on what to do… Thank you ❤
Gosh, the inability to play into peoples egos has been my downfall. Thanks for that mate!!!

Honestly, I'm not start-up anymore, and this stuff is still the most effective for my music than shooting for the stars. I do that sometimes too, but things like going live on my fb and talking about my new music reaches the most engaged audience. They actually care.
I like the sarcasm on the fan definition 😂
thank you! it's worth my time. I've learned a lot in your content.
I needed to get cussed out this morning. Thanks!! Im putting my boots to the ground and continuing to engage my fans
Great advice! I play acoustic covers in bars and parties and people often ask me when my own album with my own songs will come out. Covers are a good start to get people used to your vocal style and your musical persona. Thanks for all your great tips!
Thank you! Keep me in the loop with your music 😊😊
Thank you so much, i have been trying to find a video on this but every one i found didint give any advice at all, they just say "so you post music and no one listens" in a million different ways. Then they end the video after wasting my time by telling me absolutely nothing on how to gain fans. but this video gives me so much to think about and use that i wonder why someone would give away this info for free. either way I'm grateful you did so once again, thank you so much for this
Really glad to help, thank you 😊😊
No matter where you are as a musician this info is valuable. You never stop building your fanbase.
i agree!
We are currently implementing the 30 day release strategy with rolling releases every 30 days. After releasing two albums and EPs under the traditional model. Glad to hear your thoughts. Also enjoying being part of your exclusive Facebook Group. Keep up the good work.

“Don’t go straight into the ask” -Damien.😈
Hahaha love that
I lost my mom earlier this year.

@@DamianKeyes I definitely will! Sorry for the delay, I was at work! But I certainly will. 🖤
Thank you so much. Value… and relationship. This has been one of my favorite videos so far. You really aligned with my values. Beautiful words thank you so much friend.

I've never heard of a "music vlogger" so I googled it and the first result is a UA-cam video of a person complaining that "music vloggers" don't exist.

I'm loving your videos brother, I've been obsessing with fine tuning a pile of tracks and watching your content helps me get my mind jogging on marketing without pulling myself too far away from the music, really appreciate it. The content, the perspective, the delivery, all spot on.
This is so lovely! Thank you thank you 🙏🏻🙏🏻
Damian Keyes no worries mate.
10:03 Top quality Dad joke right there m8 👏👏
Thanks bro this helps, I try to put a song on my channel every week so thanks.👍
Oh shit I walked past you in Brighton a few months ago, madness
Next time come and say hi!
I'm about to start promoting my content and watching videos like this to build my competency in social media marketing. Your tip on getting your fam and friends to share is so simple but something I honestly wasn't even thinking about. 👏
Meanwhile, I just finish my songs and upload them to Soundcloud , I've released 4 songs since Jan 1 😂😂
Even if the profit is secondary, I wholeheartedly believe in putting and idea out there that might inspire a whole new sound.
you'll just get better and better keep grinding and don't worry. keep moving forward

Ive been watching you for a bit here and besides your knowledge, the other thing i love about your content is that i can use it, use it right now, and use it for free (with an option to join later).
