Every time I read an instruction manual it is useless bullshit. Whatever it is that I get stuck on is not mentioned in the manual. Whatever I am trying to troubleshoot is not in the troubleshooting section. Instruction manuals are mostly useless. Schematics are awesome. Instruction manuals suck.

    • @rossmanngroup
      @rossmanngroup  Місяць тому +54

When it comes to items on my website, I have never dealt with a shittier company. What they did to the people who were selling the flux using a similar formula to what they used to make was a shitty thing to do. www.globalsmt.net/industry-news/inventec-takes-legal-measures-to-protect-their-amtech-brand/
When they say they are protecting their brand, in my opinion, what they actually mean is _"we want the ability to sell NC-559-ASM as NC-559-V2-TF. If someone else makes we ACTUALLY USED TO SELL AS NC-559-V2-TF, we will sue them."_
Technically Inventec owns the trademark. However, what do you care more about? Sanctity of the trademark "amtech" or "nc-559-v2-tf", or getting the same formulation that you paid for?
The legal owner of the trademark has the legal right to change the formulation of what they sell under that trademark without informing you; they can sell whatever they please as _"Amtech NC-559-V2-TF"_ They could sell toilet bowl cleaner as NC-559-V2-TF and it would be legal.
What matters more? Ownership of the trademark, or the switcheroo they pulled selling a different formula under the same name? What do you care about more - another company using Inventec's trademark to sell NC-559-V2-TF using a similar/same formulation Inventec used before they switcheroo'd it with a different flux, or Inventec *_ACTUALLY PULLING A SWITCHEROO AND SELLING A DIFFERENT FORMULATION ENTIRELY UNDER THE NC-559-V2-TF NAME?_*
You can talk all you want about the letter of the law, but the spirit of the law is what customers care about. They broke the spirit of the law, and then used that to pummel their competition into oblivion.
They asked me to help them with PR. I told them in plain terms, there's the letter of the law, and the spirit of the law. Nobody gives an F about your trademark, they care about buying NC-559-V2-TF that feels & smells like the old NC-559-V2-TF before you pulled a switcheroo selling ASM as V2-TF. Do that instead of trying to get me to ruin my reputation defending this nonsense. I told them: I won't _"help"_ your reputation by doing what you're asking: - *I'd ruin mine.*
The last straw for me was not telling me there's a $400+ shipping charge and surprising me with it anyway. if there has to be some special $400+ shipping for this order... you could tell me, so that I can modify my order accordingly.
It's a shit thing to do to someone who's spent $100,000-$200,000 on your products over ten years who spent that ten years evangelizing your products. Same as the shit thing they did changing the formulation & destroying amtechdirect.
I have no respect for that company's management or ownership. They knew my grievances about this for over six months now and never did anything to make it right. There is nothing they could tell me at this point that would change my mind, or opinion of them. Anything after the fact would just be damage control.

I like seeing the concepts used to fix computers demonstrated with simpler, cheaper products. Practicing the basics with cheap stuff that I can get my hands on and not be afraid to permanently destroy in the name of learning is a lot of fun. It's also nice to be able to fix those cheap products and save some money, considering I'm likely to have a hundred or more cheap products like that break before I see one of my computers require any repairs. Throwin stuff away $20 at a time adds up after awhile.

Hi Louis Rossmann, I haven't asked you about this yet, but since you're doing this particular video, I have to inquire. I live in Canada, and I bought a vibrating bed with an adjustable frame for over $500. The remote control had two pieces: one being the control board and the other being the remote board. They literally just soldered the remotes together with blobs of solder. Fortunately, it fell and broke the solder joints, and currently, I haven't found anyone who can fix it or repair the ruined solder points. I would love to send it to you and would be willing to pay a reasonable fee. You could even make a video about it, I don't mind. The fact that I have to buy a new remote for $300 to $500 is ridiculous, considering the bed itself costs that much and it's only wireless. Please reply back and let me know what I have to do to have you repair this. I think you're the only one who could.

I have a fume extractor. The difference in smell wasn't something I really noticed because I usually have headphones on while I work so I can keep my fume extractor on the highest setting and I always have it RIGHT up next to the board. I don't enjoy the smell of any flux.
I was literally the last person to have a clue about the changed formula because the smell was never different to me, because between allergies + fume extractor, I never smelled it
      :(
When I found out, I felt uninformed, confused, and ashamed. I have to have been the last person to know...
      :(

Hi Louis, I think you were struggling to put the battery cover back on because the sync+pair buttons were being inserted the wrong way, it looks like you need to insert the buttons from the inside, not the outside (ie the larger part of the silicone buttons should be pressing up against the buttons on the PCB) and that would stop them easily falling out as well.
Fun video to watch, thanks :)

If wanting to do something outside of computer repair: I think there's a market for doing resto-mod stuff to older electronics from the 1980's and 1990's. A lot of stereo stuff was made better then than it is now. Particularly if it's something that was made in Japan. It's just needing Bluetooth audio connectivity added, aux-in if it doesn't have one, better batteries if portable, and re-capping and cleaning of switches and contacts, speaker swap or re-coning. Showing the challenges and process of getting that done would be interesting.

Probably should pull the tactile switch overlay. A bit of heat works.
Could be some moisture still under them.
And FYI you can hold the IR emitter to your phone camera and see it flash. Camera IR filtering might reduce the light.
Or just tack a regular LED in parallel to the emitter for a check.

I love the repair videos and resonate with your with frustrations from these companies.
I have a 4k ip camera that got struck by lightning(hit my transformer) and blew up the chip for the poe power supply inside. I can almost read the chip model from images filed with the fcc. Sucks that a $130 camera goes to waste cause I cant get a part model number.
Fixing golf cart controllers is a profitable endeavor. I fixed one that was a simple diode replacement. Or from a few failed mosfets. And most of them cost $300-600 and up.
I raise hamburgers but dabble in electronics, so I watch for the farming right to repair info and electronics repairs like this.

SDaPo (Shenzhen Dapo Communication Co) makes various models of power supply modules for IP cameras that are quite cheap and available on Aliexpress.
And on their own website they have the pinouts.
In case you've never used it the Aliexpress search engine is a piece of **** and 95% of the results will be for totally unrelated things but if you search for "sdapo" or "PoE module" (without the quotes) you may find something suitable.
You can also take a photo of your PoE module and search on Google for similar pictures. Disable the flash for better results
