I don't hate apple, I just strongly don't like them mainly because of these two words, "Sold" and "Separately"

    • @Lilyium
      @Lilyium 5 років тому +25

Honestly, if you're not an artist and would like to use the iPad as a standalone, why would you want to pay the price of the pen included? Apple would just charge more, it's not like the pen is made of free air. Much better to have them sold separately. Everyone's happy at the end of the day, besides those who can't afford another $99 on top of their half a grand ipad of course.

@@Lilyium you are very true! But I wasn't talking about just the iPad. The phones, the Mac books, All of it. Dongles, chargers, I could go on.. my S8 Came with a fast charger in the box and it charges in 45 Min to an hour. Apples fast charger costs an Extra $80 and its still not that fast. Don't get me started on the wireless charging pad And the headphone jack.

I just bought one in June 2020. I love it, gonna be using it for a long time. I feel like it's a great choice if you don't want to spend a lot on the Tab S6 but also want the Dex mode which is missing in Tab S6 Lite. Also worth it if you don't want to go the Apple iPad route. You can find it second hand for a very good price. Got it for 270 pounds in mint condition, ordered a third party keyboard and some spare pen tips, and all that totals to about 300 pounds for a Dex enabled productivity machine AND drawing device.

Not that I hate them, but I dont want to support them. Specially cause of their so closed enviroment that I have 0 control of. Android lets me do what I want, so I'll probably go for this S4.

same i always prefer apple to windows way back when they didn't over charge their products and gives the middle finger to gaming, and with their hipster community base that they attract over the years just turns me off their products. not to mention how shit iOS is and how inbreed their software ecosystem is just pissed me off.
and this is from someone who hates samsung because from my experience, their device always has problems a few months after the warranty expired(mainly the batteries) but at least they don't charge me an arm and leg to fix my device.

I don't hate Apple (heck, my first smart phone was an iPhone 4, and I still use my 10+ year old iPod Classic), I just dislike many of their design and business decisions, and here are a few examples.
    1. How did it take them nearly 12 YEARS to realise "Hey, maybe proprietary ports aren't the best idea?"
    2. "Lets remove the headphone jack, nobody uses that anyway, and if they do they can just buy one of our proprietary adaptors!" on a device that has its origins in a portable music player
    3. *Accessories sold separately
    4. "Why would you ever need to have access to the file system?"
    5. "You're only allowed to install apps we approve of"
    6. "Nobody needs expandable storage. If they need more storage, they should have thought of that beforehand and paid a premium for the extra gigs"
    7. "People like arranging all their icons in a grid starting from the top left of the screen, right? Why would we ever change that?"
Yes I know that most, if not all of these points are ones that other people have also decried for years, and some of them may seem petty to some, but there's good reason so many people complain about these things - they are fundamental things that frustrate a lot of people.

Hi Brad what do you think about the new aspect ratio? After years of using the 16:9 tf810c Windows tablet I'm on the verge of making a switch to either this or the S3. But after having tried an iPad I have to admit I feel much more comfortable using 4:3 in a tablet for drawing, it just feels less cramped. That's the main reason I never used mine in portrait mode. It's a pity because apart from that the S4 has improved in all the other things I thought could be improved in the S3: battery life, better screen to body ratio and resolution.

what specific features on the apps on ios that isnt on android (sketchbook, artcanvas)? that you would use on a daily basis?
i have used an ipad pro, and have a samsung note 4 - which i find sketchbook to be more fluid in brush stroke sensitivity than an ipad pro with affinity painter - perhaps because i dont spend a long time drawing one continious stroke to warrant the time observing the parralex position of the cursor - which i turn off in configuration - as i find rendering the circle to indicate the tip takes an extra second delay before the brush stroke initialises
i would like samsung to continue making tab s line up and consider the reviews thus far from endgadget to represent the tablet in akward situations with less than ideal setup and configuration for a task that a person looking into finding an entry point into being more efficient in general note taking, art, and other forms of content creation can achieve on android rather than on ios because of the ring fenced nature of the os

It’s a hard one I think. I have the galaxy tab s3. I bought it because I need TVpaint on the go for work. I use both iPad Pro and my Galaxy tab a lot, and I like the spen better, but software overall is better on iOS and infinite painter is on that too. For casual cafe sketching I grab the Galaxy tab instead of the iPad though. How do you find the performance between the Tab s 3 and tab s 4? Also I like the way my current spen doesn’t roll off the table, is the new one more comfortable to hold? You seem to not like it.

I am loving drawing on the Galaxy tab S4. One thing i noticed that might explain the cursor not being on point or the lag is if you prop the tablet on something like it's cover so that it's at an angle, however if you place it on a table completely flat and rest your palm on the screen the issue totally goes away.

For a better grip I usually put a small amount of scotch tape on the pen to give it more of a pencil feel and a better grip.

    3) SPen button can be used for shortcuts, disabled or hold it for eraser (which is what I do)

Love the review Brad! I completely agree with your point about sketchbook pro. Autodesk Sketchbook pro was the app that got me into digital illustration in 2014. I used to own a Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 inch with a S-pen & Sketchbook was my favourite app to draw in but last year after getting an iPad Pro, Procreate took the number 1 spot for me. Autodesk attracted new users by making the pro features free however they need to bring the desktop features such as perspective tools, ability to import and export brushes & more to tablets as apps like Procreate already have this. Also I am not a fan of the fill tool (may just be me)
I did two of my entries for your August Finished Art Challenge in Sketchbook pro on my iPad Pro & I want to do more in it but Procreate & Affinity Photo/ Designer has my attention more than sketchbook does. Would love to hear your thoughts on sketchbook :)

Me too, hoping Apple don't reduce the bezels too much - but if they do, I'll just buy a 2017 model for a lot less. (Unless they make a 14" or 15" iPad Pro because that's money out of my bank account on launch day - whatever size bezels)

I've heard that the pricey animation software "TV Paint" is free on android 5 and up. Can you check if this is the case for Galaxy Tab 4 please?

Interesting video. I recently got tab 4 but I have a problem. I want to ask if you can reduce the growth of the pen to the display

I don't know if you figured this out since you made the video but on medibang which I think you're using if you click the correction button on the top left it helps take away the shakiness created on your lines

You're right I am out there. That comment made me laugh so damn hard. Thank you for these amazing reviews. I am so happy I found this channel. It's amazing that someone is around to be able to explain and review tech specifically from the perspective of an artist. It's really helped me find devices that can help me expand my abilities. Especially in the mobile department. I plan on replacing my Cintiq with the Mobile Studio Pro, since I spend way more time drawing from anywhere in my house, not just my desk, to out in the world at large.

Just make sure you read up on the Wacom tech support problems people with a Mobile Studio Pro have had before you ditch your cintiq....
Better still, look around and see if any of the 4K Pro Cintiqs have actually shipped (6 months after launch date). You'll find a pink unicorn sooner...
