      @@dderrkii Once you get it, look for a button in the start menu that says "SURFACE" where you configure settings unique to the Surface. Click on the stylus icon to the left, then the SETTINGS APP link. Then go down to the drop down menue for PRESS AND HOLD and select "Nothing". Also, if you type "Calibrate" in Cortana, you can find the tool to calibrate your pen and touch input to feel more natural and accurate.

    From a college student perspective, this surface has been amazing so far. I use onenote for my notes and the writing feels like i'm writing on paper (especially when i added a cheap matte screen protector). I can have 2 onenote windows up at the same time to write notes and check the teacher's slides while having another window for google in case I'm still confused with the lecture. The writing is smooth and quick while switching from hand touch to pen a breeze. I sound like an ad but damn, i'm glad I picked it over a regular laptop. Hopefully they'll have noteability for windows soon.

    • @nikolasapple2100

      Mia Can you tell me what screen protector you're using? I own a Surface Pro 6 base model without the keyboard (using my old apple wireless bluetooth keyboard) and I recently watched JerryRickEverything's video about the durability of the device. I got pretty worried about the fractures that occurred on his surface. I use my surface a lot for drawing and wonder whether your 'cheap matte screen protector' is okay with the surface pen in terms of recognition and pressure sensitivity.
      Thank you in advance.

    The crappy pen performance kills it for me, and is the #1 reason I got an iPad instead of a Surface. Sucks, because the only thing the iPad is good for is drawing and painting, and a Surface would be far more versatile. Classic Microsoft of making something that it just good enough instead of excellent, and classic Apple of making something that is really great for one thing, but limiting it so you have to buy another Apple product that does something else.

    • @DoctorMikeWilson
      @DoctorMikeWilson 5 років тому +5

      If it helps, I have used the surface book 2 i5 and and i7 with performance base and the difference in response between the two is way more than I would have expected. Not sure if it's the same for the surface pro, but it was enough to put me off any i5 based computer going forward.

    • @carolteater9456

      @@DoctorMikeWilson Thanks for the info, but the bad pen performance kills it for me anyhow. I would not get a Surface, just based on that, because my only use for a tablet is drawing and painting. • @carolteater9456
      @carolteater9456 5 років тому +12

      @@nadeemshaikh7863 Nope, it's pure crap for drawing, apparently. It seems to be like the mirror image of the iPad: horrible for anything that needs a pen, and great for anything that needs a good keyboard and trackpad and a real browser. Apple isn't going to add that to the iPad, they want people to buy an iPad *and* a MacBook, and Google doesn't care enough about people who do art or design to be bothered improving the pen experience on the Slate. I likely will buy an iPad Pro 12.9 and do essentially what I do now, only use the iPad for drawing and painting, and use my Chromebook or desktop for everything else. I don't even like the iPad for media consumption, though the Pro might be better.

Granted the Apple pencil is better but, the rest of the Surface Pro is better. And as stated, the Pro can run "everything" and it's seemless with my workstation.
    You can't continue or start something on the go if using Painter, Illustrator or PS as examples, with your ipad.

      You've clearly never owned an ipad to make a comment like that. Ipad has great PSD support so why you need photoshop? There's procreate, sketchbook, clip studio, paintstom, affintiy photo, infinite painter, etc the list goes on for the number of apps that can use PSD files. Not to mention who wants photoshop or illustrator on an ipad anyways when you'll sit there and pay a crap ton of money to due its subscription pricing? You could just buy affinity photo and designer which comes with 90% of everything photoshop and illustrator does, only
      its a one time price/buy.
      There is a reason why you see a lot of artists use an ipad for their mobile devices and just about none of them use a surface pro, despite both being in the same price range and the
      surface pro running "everything". Its all about good drawing software and experience, an area where the ipad crushes the surface.

      I totally agree with you. In addition, if someone is looking for a serious upgrade, this device should do the job. However, it is still an amazing machine.
      On the other hand, I deeply believe that Microsoft will go for a change next year, 2020 will be too late. But who knows...if they want to keep "pc-windows-office" type concept, the ups will be for good, but not good enough for all serious illustrators.

      Idk, I've been using a surface pro3 i5 for years now for "serious work" (as in actual concept art, illustration and now product design) and id rather use my sp3 than my wacom cintiq 13hd. I wouldn't spread the misinformation that the surface line is not good enough for pros, because it is. At least for 2d work, the issue arises with heavy 3d work but it wasn't designed for this anyway.

    • @SourianteOrange
      @SourianteOrange 5 років тому +5

      @@user-ff2mu4fh4v Actually, "misinformation" is a word writtent too imprudently here. For sure, milions of people do their professional work thanks to Surface Pro or even Go machines. However, the review showed clearly that the bar is not enough higher to cover more specific needs. And this will be visible when Ipad Pro comes at the end of this month with the promise for full Photoshop experience and not only that. Anyway even this Ipad Pro wont cover all specific needs. But, for sure, could go beyond the Surface line at this stage. If Apple is going to do that, I hope in 2019 we all meet the real face of Surface Pro- the better choice for most of the people. P., there is no "the perfect device". Peace. I have a flight to catch.

      "For serious drawing, doesn’t work." I disagree. As some have mentioned, they've used it for serious creative work. I also know a guy who does illustration and animation with his surface pro. That's photoshop and flash/animate. It's pretty neat. An i7 with 8gb+ ram should suffice. I'm sure that most professionals use this as a daily laptop/tablet because of how portable it is, but it doesn't mean that they don't also have a different or even a better computer in their home.

    • @Heck230
      @Heck230 5 років тому

      Was looking for the answer aswell. Since no one answerd, i guess it just comes down to "apple sheeps" saying, that the apple stuff is better than everthing else. Since Apple-stuff is usually good and the convinience (apple eco system) is much higher than on other devices, who tend to do their own stuff and don't fully commit on the things they are doing.
      In my opinion Apple puts much thought into they products, and how to scam the customer afterwards (dongle life), while other are more like "we copy there and ignore that, while we enhance some other stuff".
      In conclusion, the apple pencil is great - has magnetic charging on the side and works well on apple devices, while the surface pencil is out there for a much longer period, while only getting revisited once after the surface pro 2. Since then it is more or less a standstill, leaving much room for competition.

      There is also the severe lack of drawing and photo manip apps on Android, most artists are being driven to Ipads with the results that even indy app creators that do art themselves (Borodante for example) end up skipping on Android. I just bought the iPad Pro, and I’m loving it :) if you want quality for a slightly lesser price, go for this one. I personally chose it for the portability and ease of use- I dislike waiting for something to start up especially if it takes a long time which usually happens in laptops. Since the iPad can easily be booted up anytime, anywhere, it’s easy to work and keep working. Plus it has a very colour accurate screen; I’ve never had any occurrence where the colours of one of my pieces looked vastly different from screen to screen.
      Well, I’m an animation student and freelance artist, so I really need work done fast, and the iPad does that great. If you’re just a hobbyist, maybe you’re better off working with something else.

    As a tech guy, the big thing you forgot to mention is how the processor is now fully quad core rather than dual core with hypertreading (a pseudo quad core). This makes it so CPU intensive tasks can do a lot better now like video editing and includes drawing application since all is carried by the CPU since there is no dedicated GPU to do the brute work.

    What power supply are you using? If you're doing intense work with a Surface tablet you should consider the 100w power supply. The Surface has several throttle points including temperature and power consumption and if you want to used more graphics intense apps it needs tat higher watt power to keep the battery charging. We found this out the hard way when using the Surface for a retail experience installation.
