I will say that the biggest downside I have found to using Samsung tablets is they don't directly sell replacement nibs so you have to find them from a third party reseller and a lot of them aren't good. If you get the Creator Edition pen, it comes with extra nibs but then it has a hard tip and doesn't feel as good to draw with without a matte protector. Edit: 2 months later, the tip has, in fact, worn out. I was unable to find a replacement that had the rubber tip. Ended up buying a titanium tip and paperlike protector.
Pro tip: you can buy a replacement pen for the Wacom One 13" series display tablets, they work really great on Galaxy Tabs and each box comes with 5 extra nibs. Me & a few pals actually prefer this to the Samsung options since it's nicer to hold and cheaper than the Creator pen.
Hey, Brad! Your reviews are the reason why I've made great decisions when it comes to drawing hardware. I would totally buy an XP pen tablet if they did two things. A larger screen, I just like being able to move my hand with my elbow more than my wrist. and the big one, if they add a feature where you plug your tablet into your PC and it's just a drawing tablet.
After your last video, I bought the S9 FE and I LOVE it! I agree you get great bang for the buck with this tablet! While I haven't done a ton of drawing on it just yet, the experience has been really good so far! Great pen, screen, etc.! Thanks for your videos!

Thank you Brad... I watched more than one review of you recommending the Galaxy Tab S9 FE... so I bought it two days ago... I'm really happy with it... It's really awesome tablet for drawing and my budget
The form factor of the XP Magic Drawing Pad (should just be XP-Pad) is great but the cursor misalignment and not supporting tilt is a no-no for me. Hope their next offering is better
Now you can go into the settings, handwriting option and adjust the cursor offset. I personally rarely use tilt in my drawing, so not having tilt function isn't a big deal for me. If that is something others use a lot in their drawing, that may be a problem.
I have a limited budget as a father of 4 and teacher's salary, so I opted for a Lenovo P12 tablet and was surprised at how well it responds. The android environment takes some getting used to. But I love the fact that I can get what I need in terms of professional drawing software at a fraction of the cost. (I love apple tech but just can't afford it)
@@xenanimates3188 The Button has the same functionality but the pressure sensitivity and line wobble feel superior, it is also more comfortable in the hand compared to the Samsung stylus
@@ocularcavity8412 Oh, thank you for the explanation! I was worried the pressure sensitivity would be wonky since the pen is not made by the same company(although i know that they both use the same technology)
Another cool thing about samsung dex is that if you have a phone with it and connect a usb c to hdmi adapter you can connect artist 10 and 12 drawing tablet and it will recognize the tablet as a monitor and let you draw on it and navigate on a touchscreen pad from your phone!
I've been using my S8 Ultra for a good bit, and while I absolutely love the thing, I still like to keep an eye on other options available. Hopefully, Huion can pick up their game a bit to give a better challenge to Samsung, but XP-Pen did a decent job!
Question: Do I need to connect the wacom pen to the tablet somehow or how will I be able to use it, since its made for wacom products? I have wacom drawing tablet (without screen) and the pen automatically connects to my computer when the tablet is on. But if I buy just a pen, how will the pen know to connect? (As you see I'm pretty beginner with these things😅)
@@julietttthehooman1635have you figured it out? i also have an intuos and currently wanting to get the galaxy tab s9 fe for drawing-on-the-go but my concern is the s pen and its lack of replaceable nibs
Yup. I bought the Samsung Galaxy Tab s9 FE with no regret. I bought couple of drawings apps to start with. The only reason I will buy an Ipad pro is because of the Procreate app.
While it's nice to have other options, this is going to be a tough fight for XP and Huion. It would be different if Samsung just had one or two devices, but they've got all of the bases covered with low, mid, and high-end devices.
I've been using the XP-Pen Magic Drawing Pad for a few days, and it's wonderful. I adore it. Picked it up for £400, and had to wait for it to ship from China to the UK. Thought about Samsung, but the bloat annoys me. I've had too many issues with their tech previously. I am back to loving drawing. I do wish XP-Pen or a third party would sell a decent travel case/wallet for the Magic Drawing Pad. Hopefully they will soon.
I'm always disappointed when I hear the Huion tablet is a bit rough around the edges, but thrilled that there's now an XP Pen tablet - it's very conflicting. I had the 9+ FE and loved it, but had to return it when I lost my job. Now that I'm working again, I have to now decide between the XP Pen and the Galaxy...I wasn't really sure which one to get, but you've at least given me a lot to think about.
I would also say Samsung if you want a android tablet. I have a xp-pen display tablet which still works after 3 years of use. But it seems that their android tablets still need some time to get good.
Bout the s pen: you are totally right. I tried it yesterday and I was so disappointed because it did not feel natural and great. The rubber tip feels weird. I wish they made a stiff tip and the stylus itself thicker and bigger, like the apple pencil. It doesn't feel really good in my hand. :(
I am so happy theres more real competition asides the ipad. The only thing apple does better than the rest is having procreate, and they charge twice as much as anyone else
I feel like for $499 The XP-Pen makes the the S Tab9FE seem like a no-brainer. It's $449 and has a better processor meaning you can branch out. The alignment is very good from what I remember so you don't have that offset. A screen protector is easy enough to apply. Adding that and replacing the nibs with plastic nibs is still cheaper than a new XP pen. Add on top of it that you are guaranteed 4 years of OS and 5 years of Security updates and it seems like a no-brainer. If XP pen adds a calibration app or settings panel I can see it going either way but still tilted in Samsung's favor because of the OS update support. But right now you can fix the Samsung's drawing feel. You can't fix the XP-Pen.
Ik its been a long time but you can in fact calibrate offset on magic drawing pad, both in the settings and specific apps. Another thing is that xppen often has discounts and app subscriptions that you get for free with their products, just bough a magic drawing pad for ~330$ during the 11.11 sale, cheaper than buying second hand. It also has the best stylus out there, 16k sensitivity while most if not all other styluses dont have over 4k, plus the fact that you dont need to charge or peer it. Ive previously used a screen tablet with 8k levels and downgrading to 4k just doesnt seem exciting
I have a samsung galaxy s6 lite but it keeps crashing , I lost more than 200 artworks. I made a lot of great artworks on it but I also regret buying it. So, I'm looking for a new tablet. Great video, it's helpful
I wish there's a place where I can try out XP Pen's Magic Drawing Pad in person... I don't want to order it, and then find out that I don't like it as much as my iPad Pro.
I think i'm here to talk bout the harsh truths of s6 Lite (got the 2022 version but the issues still gotta stay i strongly believe)... Get something bit stronger.. S9FE, or non FE, just maybe not s6... I bought it because i wanted to try smth portable and as a student at the time (last year) i couldn't rly afford ipad or the S8 which was at the top of the line at the time, so i opted for s6 Lite and now i kinda regret it.. between the weaker CPU and just 4gigs of ram, it's wasted money if you want to work bigger and with more layers (though, the issue is not rly layers, but textured layers)... The tablet simply struggles loading and moving with canvases more than 2k x 2k with stuff on the layers... So if you need many layers with sketches, and refining, get something stronger... I loce the feel of samsung tablets with the pen even though it is on the smaller side and it works great, just the S6Lite is not as strong for more work than sketching and more simple illustrations or being forced to work on smaller scale or with less layers in CSP, krita or Infinite Painter
I've been looking for an android tablet that doesn't have that 16:9 screen ratio (Want a tablet that I can lug around for drawing, but primarily to read books and comics on). It's the one thing I think Apple got right with the iPad. Having a less "screen" like ratio makes it feel better whether you're holding it landscape or portrait style, both from a viewing perspective as well as an ergonomic perspective. So, the XP Pen one is very appealing to me, but the pen being off, even by a little, would probably drive me insane. I have a samsung phone and a 360 galaxy book, so I know that the pen is REALLY good.
I have a 9 yr old daughter who loves arts and crafts, but hasn't been introduced to digital art creation yet. She has sketch books and things, but a digital option would be a great addition for being able to effortlessly learn in a modern medium. I have seen the Picasso lineup of tablets, but regardless of the device, is there an application that has built in learning and training, or do I have to resort to split screen or picture-in-picture with a UA-cam video?
I still like my good old Lenovo P11 Plus with Lenovo Active Pen 3 (Wacom AES 2 pen), it's still running fast, probably more snappy than that Huion one. The pen is without a doubt better than the Huion one, but not as good as the XP-Pen and Samsung Pen, though not far behind. That XP-Pen Magic Pad is very tempting. I just wish it had 4Gb more RAM inside, that would make it more future proof.
Is there any other android tablet with a 4:3 aspect ratio i cant for the life of me get use to Samsung 16:9. Xp pen is great but the software is kinda questionable.
I bought the XP pen because it was on sale for $655 AUD $427 USD. I would have gone Samsung but in Australia it’s at least 1k at most reputable places. Thanks for the round up. I wanted to know does the XP pen for their main drawing screens have the tilt function work on the Magic Pen? Or is it the screen that doesn’t have the tilt ability? Not a deal breaker as I don’t generally tilt.
From the reviews I've been watching I think this is the only device where tilt is not working, I'm not sure if the blame lies on the screen or on the pen. All other XP-Pen devices have tilt working. I've heard a rumour that XP-Pen will work on a firmware or something to try and fix this problem.
@@samaelrace mixed feelings. It has great battery life, it's much lighter, has a nicer texture and more comfortable to use than my iPad pro. It also performs better in daylight conditions due to anti-glare finish. I managed to get a sturdy stick on kickstand that has made it a very portable and convenient drawing tool. On the negative side: the pen is misaligned with the cursor so everyone is a few pixels off. My favourite drawing app infinite painter does not have any way to correct this. Ibis paint does have a cursor offset feature which solves this but the interface and brushes are not as good. I spent a lot of time manually making my own brushes and even now cannot reproduce the exact brushes I liked in other apps. It is also very difficult to get accessories such as cases, as no 3rd party is supporting it. The performance is generally very good but it struggles to play hi-res video. 4k stutters or stops completely. It can just about manage 1440p the screens native resolution. Overall it is good value for money but probably not as good as a Samsung or iPad pro despite the superior pen.
Honestly would love to get any android tablet if it weren't for procreate and procreate dreams. And it's never going to release on android in the near future.
Huion did copy the 16k levels of pressure with their new 19 and 27 inch pro displays and finally added an eraser tip to the pen, so they will probably add it to their next android tablet.
Not sure with the erasor. Do other tablets pens have erasors with their thin body form factor? I honestly have not used the erasor for 15 years on desktop but maybe it’s handy when you are without keyboard. Still if the pen have two buttons it’s usually quicker to use one pen to switch to eraser than flipping the pen itself
@@litjellyfish There are no 19 or 27 inch tablets on the market. Pen Displays are for desktop. Also how can it be quicker to fiddle with a button instead of just turning the pen over and erase something which is natural to humans since we were taught to use erasers on pencils in elementary school?
@@netvisionz sorry I don’t get what you mean with the different sizes. I just asked if any other tablets (regardless of size) had an erasor. Apple Pencil who is the most popular drawing tablet still do not have it. Wacom’s ditched their erasor in their lower product line. How it can be quicker? Well because it is faster pure well physically. It’s less motion less movement = it takes less time to click a button than flip a pen , also it’s not fiddly. as you say flipping the pen to erase it’s a learned thing = it’s not natural in any way. Functions just as we learn to use a mouse and tap a screen. Also as the erasor is a lot thicker it covers often the point to erase making it less precise. Don’t you find it hard to be precise when erasing fine lines with to end of say a Wacom pro pen compared to just switch to the erase tool and use the normal fine tipped tip for more control erasing ?
@@litjellyfishI think you misunderstood. XP-Pen introduced 16 levels of pressure with their X3 Pen technology a few years ago. Their recent android tablet uses the same pen technology from their pen displays which have eraser tips. Their tablet is one featured in the video. Huion has just introduced Pentech 4.0 with eraser tip to their Kamvas Pro 19 and 27 pen displays. My comment was that based on that they will more than likely introduce support for their new pen technology to their next Android tablet. I hope this clears things up.
@@netvisionz ah thank you. And yes I totally misunderstood you 😅 I tough you mean that they would be offering pens with eraser tip for future possible tablet line. Which for I found odd as from a drawing pov I feel it adds litttle value. For more pure note taking (remarkable 2 has an erasor) it makes more sense for me as the target group are not really artists. And for them as you say are used to just flip the pen. But I we compare with artists used to pen-displays (with often shortcut keys etc) they are more used to just quickly toggle to eras or function instead of flipping the pen. Thanks for clarifying 💚
I can't get over the camera bump on these...what are they thinking? Put a plastic square in the other corners if you must, but let me lay it down flat!!!
having studied and still doing some non professional artwork (cause i became a teacher and not an artist or designer) - i find the samsung tab s8/9 ultra "near" perfect for drawing .. but i would not seriously draw on them. Personally, i have the Wacom Cintiq, which is in a different league to either any android or apple tablet. Those are just toys in the end. However, since Samsung does use the wacom drawing pen, there is more familiarity for me .. but the real professional wacom drawing pen is much better than the little stick you get from Samsung (not to mention the even tinier stick in the phone)
i once again ask you to review lenovo android tablets, they are pretty good too, certainly better than the huion you reviewed. for that price you could get a tab p11 gen 2 or tab p11 plus. or an s6 lite
Samsung also knows but they aim their devices to a much broader target group. Adding some artists features like the matte screen with more grip with alienate many of the non artist buyers (that is a lot more than artists in number)
A bonus point of the Samsung tablets is that they're compatible with Wacom One, Remarkable, and other EMR E-Readers. They all have the same pressure levels and smooth drawing, but have slightly different initial activation force levels. If I had the money, i would buy both the XP-Pen and Huion tablets to support those companies making androidsso they can make more androids. A sad truth with companies entering the android sphere is that those first devices will only support one android upgrade and then it's obsolete a year later. Anyone remember the Lenovo Yogabook first gen? yeah. I don't have any confidence that XP-Pen or Huion would do much better with OS updates or if their customer support teams would be able to resolve problemns because Lenovo support sure threw their hands up in the air with that Yogabook first gen, but I do have hope! But even if these two don't get more than one update, it might be easy to just mod a custom OS that stays patched for much longer. I really did try to like my Galaxy S7, but the screen was too narrow, Samsung's Android software is annoying, and when not using the device for drawing, I dislike how trying to run apps like twitter and such just run like giant phone versions instead of having a landscape-friendly tablet design. Maybe the 9 FE might work better for me, but I'm just sick of samsung android at this point. I love my Galaxy Book 360, on the other hand, but for android, I'll deal with the XPPen Pen offset!
I bought the galaxy tab s9 fe after watching your last video about it and it's GREAT! and you're right, the rubber pen tip is not that good, especially when used on a screen protector, luckily I still have my spare pen nips from my old galaxy note 10, I used the plastic one and it's working great and very smoothly... but I have a question, what's the app you used to draw on these tablets? Thanks for the great video! I have been thinking for a long time about buying the XP Pen Magic Drawing Pad or the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 FE. I tried the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 FE at an electronics store and sometimes I could not draw lines well in clip studio. and The tablet misidentified my hand as a pen and drew extra lines.. The only factor that's keeping the Ipad on top for digital artists is the fact that it has Procreate, port procreate over to android and it will be on top.
It's funny because it's true for most, but on the other hand you have people like me who is watching this video because I can't stand Procreate's interface and Apple's ecosystem
Right? Procreate feels so... Bad when you're used to PC art programs, or if you don't like the fact that everything is nested- I personally really dislike procreates brush engine, it feels very waxy as if it's always delayed in a way@@squidsbizarreadventure

Thank you!!! I've been fixating on researching these for a very long time and seeing this video helped so much!!!
Thank you Brad... I watched more than one review of you recommending the Galaxy Tab S9 FE... so I bought it two days ago... I'm really happy with it... It's really awesome tablet for drawing and my budget
What drawing program do you use with it?
I'm gonna buy one next week probably
Quick update if any ?
been using S6lite for almost three years. Its great. S9 Ultra is my next buy later in the year.
Same waiting for black Friday deals
The form factor of the XP Magic Drawing Pad (should just be XP-Pad) is great but the cursor misalignment and not supporting tilt is a no-no for me.
Hope their next offering is better
I believe they've made a fix for it recently
Now you can go into the settings, handwriting option and adjust the cursor offset. I personally rarely use tilt in my drawing, so not having tilt function isn't a big deal for me. If that is something others use a lot in their drawing, that may be a problem.
I have a limited budget as a father of 4 and teacher's salary, so I opted for a Lenovo P12 tablet and was surprised at how well it responds. The android environment takes some getting used to. But I love the fact that I can get what I need in terms of professional drawing software at a fraction of the cost. (I love apple tech but just can't afford it)
The Best experience I have see so far I a Galaxy Tab 6s lite, with a Wacom One Stylus for $29 and a Paper Film Screen protector
Does the wacom one stylus function the same as a samsung pen?
@@xenanimates3188 The Button has the same functionality but the pressure sensitivity and line wobble feel superior, it is also more comfortable in the hand compared to the Samsung stylus
@@ocularcavity8412 Oh, thank you for the explanation! I was worried the pressure sensitivity would be wonky since the pen is not made by the same company(although i know that they both use the same technology)

@@mwcshk113 It is compatible with the whole S9 range
Another cool thing about samsung dex is that if you have a phone with it and connect a usb c to hdmi adapter you can connect artist 10 and 12 drawing tablet and it will recognize the tablet as a monitor and let you draw on it and navigate on a touchscreen pad from your phone!
I've been using my S8 Ultra for a good bit, and while I absolutely love the thing, I still like to keep an eye on other options available. Hopefully, Huion can pick up their game a bit to give a better challenge to Samsung, but XP-Pen did a decent job!
I’m on the same device. Really great experience. Spen isn’t really my style but you got plenty of options and at least it’s free.
Id go with samsung 100% since the wacom one pens work with it. Add a matte screen protector for more tooth.
True, samsung for tablets, Xp-pen and Huion for pen displays (need pc).
Go for samsung and/or wait for Xp-pen to solution all the disadvantages tru drivers (can be years to make it).
Samsung.
Samsung still reigns until the XP-Pen tablets get better.
I would also say Samsung if you want a android tablet. I have a xp-pen display tablet which still works after 3 years of use. But it seems that their android tablets still need some time to get good.
XPPen already released a new update allowing us to calibrate the pen offset.
Brad...did you see you can adjust the offset of the pen in clip studio on the Xppen unit? Makes a bit of difference when drawing.
Still using my tab s7+. Highly recommended and you can probably find a pretty good deal on it.
I've seen in other videos about the XP-PEN, that apps have the option to align the stylus, so it's not a problem with the pixel issue
On XPpen tab you can set an offset to compensate for the nit pick noted in video.
Ive previously used a screen tablet with 8k levels and downgrading to 4k just doesnt seem exciting
for the xp pen tablet i found a setting where i can offset the stylus cursor just like in the pen driver for windows its just slightly hard to find
its called the hand writing offset in settings
Samsung made it's tablets compatible with more pen stylus like wacom one and staedtler, for when you lost your pen you have options
Apparently you can adjust the calibration for the pen on the Magic tab after an Update or something like that
And today if you recommend me an android tablet to make animations for 2025
What should i take?
I have a samsung galaxy s6 lite but it keeps crashing , I lost more than 200 artworks. I made a lot of great artworks on it but I also regret buying it. So, I'm looking for a new tablet. Great video, it's helpful
One thing to mention is that when the S9FE goes on sale it can go down to about 350 so look out of that.
You should do a review on galaxy tab s9 with the wacom one pen
Honestly seeing the s8 tab ultra refurbished for 550$ is a nuts deal. Depends if want to trust refurbished or not, but man its great.
XP pen has no tilt functionality
One plus pad?
Can't wait for my xp-pen tablet to arrive and start Brad's drawing school.
Hello. I would like to ask what are your impressions of using the xp-pen tablet?
(Sorry for any mistakes, English is not my native language)
What about their mirroring to Windows or Apple computer compatibility ? Is Samsung or XP Pen can work with minor delay or no delay at all ?
What is the name of the drawing app you're using? Thanks!
However, since Samsung does use the wacom drawing pen, there is more familiarity for me .. but the real professional wacom drawing pen is much better than the little stick you get from Samsung (not to mention the even tinier stick in the phone)
i once again ask you to review lenovo android tablets, they are pretty good too, certainly better than the huion you reviewed. for that price you could get a tab p11 gen 2 or tab p11 plus. or an s6 lite
xp is killing it they know what artists want
Samsung also knows but they aim their devices to a much broader target group. Adding some artists features like the matte screen with more grip with alienate many of the non artist buyers (that is a lot more than artists in number)
It's bad that Xiaomi Pad 6 didn't make this list just because it isn't available in the US
A bonus point of the Samsung tablets is that they're compatible with Wacom One, Remarkable, and other EMR E-Readers.

I would like to try it
I bought an "old" tab s8 for less than an s9 fe, and it is really good, i traded the ip rating for a better cpu basically
