@@mrflipvideodude Yep. He’s always been one of my favorite drummers. He was solely the drummer until Peter left. They auditioned different singers and none of them really worked, so Phil offered to try and they didn’t look back. I personally love the stuff with Phil singing. Yes, there’s the hits, but there’s albums like A Trick of The Tail, Wind & Wuthering, And Then There We’re Three, Duke and others. Face Value is a great record. I love Phil’s solo career as well as Peter’s. Some really great music came out of that camp. The response I always get about Phil Collins is the singer from the 80’s. It seems that’s all people know him for. They barely know that he played drums.

I'm old enough to remember when this came out in the 80's and it was BAD then!!!! 1981, I was a senior in high school, with prom yet to come and then off to college. We played the grooves out of the record back then. I have watched this version at least 73 times today, back to back to back. It NEVER gets old. Sounds just as fresh today as it did 40, 40 years ago! I introduced my son to this today. It gives me goosebumps and chills even today. I agree, this is even better than the original. It is an awesome, awesome song.!!!!

The good “old times” of true rock-variety music without any autotune and true musicians who know how to make the anxiety rise in the audience in the overture of a show.
I always loved Phil Collins. One of the rare anglo singers I was involved with during my youth in the 80’s France. He was the amazing drummer of the band Genesis and became the leading singer when Peter Gabriel (another favorite of mine) eventually left… Sting is also in my hit list with Freddie Mercury. Good memories needless to say.

As many times as I have seen this I STILL get anxious as he walks up to his kit. I'm thinking he's not gonna make it! He's not gonna make it!!! LOL!!! And I just noticed that the drums actually came up from below!!! Perfect execution!

First heard phil collins singing this song when i was only 22 working as a nurse at a hospital called the Nofolk and Norwich hospital in England, it mesmerized me then and still mesmerizes me every time. His voice and to be able to play the drums often at the same time is amazing . Phil collins is a legend

Brad Cole the keyboardist does so much on this track. Brad does the intro live no sequencing. Brad also does the vocoder parts live. Chester Thompson was the longtime drummer for Phil and Genesis live

  • @VegasAlien1

Phil was one of the best progressive drummers of all time. He played drums while singing background with Genesis, then became front man when Peter Gabriel left the band. Bill Bruford played backing drums on the Trick of the Tail tour while Phil went out front (and also stepped behind the kit) and then Chester Thompson (who also played on the tour from this video) took over on drums going forward. Phil and Chester played some very memorable drum duets over the years. Phil also played with a cool prog brand called Brand X, had a tremendous solo career and guested on a lot of artists' tracks.

I remember getting Phil’s album No Jacket Required as a little girl. My dad was a huge fan and a drummer himself. I have such good memories and vibes over his music. He was so huge in the 80s. I’m reading his book right now and I’m so enjoying hearing more about his history.

I absolutely love your freak out on this! I loved Genesis when Peter Gabriel was the singer and when he left it was like what do we do now? Their drummer Phil Collins sat in and man did it work!! I saw Live Aid live on tv that is. He played across the pond, flew on the Concord and played here in the same day! Pure freaking magic!!!! I loved that you weren’t quite sure as to his headset. I was giggling thinking HE IS THE DROP!! Whether Genesis or solo, Phil has been a part of my music landscape forever. Yes, I’m a bit older than you and a music freak chick!! 🙏🏼❤️

Phil Collins with the song "In The Air Tonight" makes various perceptions for singers and drummers become Mind Blowing. The question for the 2 band positions, both Singer and Drummer, is "How is it possible that Phil can sing while hitting the drums with precision and the right intonation? Phil Collins makes everything possible. Even the two positions he plays at the same time should make us very breathless. That should be very hard doing 2 task on one Group Music position at same time. I I have to say he really deserves a very big round of applause from the singers and drummers because he is probably the only famous musician who can do both tasks in this song
