They auditioned different singers and none of them really worked, so Phil offered to try and they didn’t look back. I personally love the stuff with Phil singing. Yes, there’s the hits, but there’s albums like A Trick of The Tail, Wind & Wuthering, And Then There We’re Three, Duke and others. Face Value is a great record. I love Phil’s solo career as well as Peter’s. Some really great music came out of that camp. The response I always get about Phil Collins is the singer from the 80’s. It seems that’s all people know him for. They barely know that he played drums.
Sadly the young ones probably think of him as just "Lily Collins's dad"... ;) There's a version of Band Aid's Do They Know it's Christmas? where you can hear Phil's drumming better, it's out of this world

The original is good but this arrangement is superior. The more atmospheric build up, the more prominent guitar part, his ability to sing so well during and after the drum drop. It is pure money.
Though he may not be able to play drums anymore, the world (what do I say, the whole universe) must acknowledge that Phil Collins is one of the best drummers and singers of all time (and a great entertainer and frontman on stage too). Love you Phil, thank you for the music 🤘👏👍❤️

This performance is EPIC!!!! The entire concert will leave you speechless. It was recorded in Paris, France 2004 and was dubbed his "first farewell tour." Next best thing though is watching you enjoy it. You could hear a pin drop in the beginning...just pure silence and admiration. I really do hope you thoroughly enjoyed it

He's a drumming and singing legend 👍. You have to be very good to be able to come up with hit after hit after that, which obviously he did, but even if he would have never had another hit in his life again, he still did "In The Air Tonight". This song is more iconic than five hits from some other bands.

It's still amazing when you find somebody who doesn't know that Phil was a drummer for his entire career - and a master one at that. I was fortunate enough to see him perform this during his Farewell Tour at the Tacoma Dome and there is just nothing like witnessing this done live. The crowd explodes when he's done. What's even more amazing later during the show is the drum duet between Phil and Chester Thompson. What an amazing show!!

My husband knows him, back in the days they used to drink together and play pool in the queen Vic pub in shalford surrey when he lived near, in-between concerts/touring. Really down to earth guy.

I was a young soldier when this song came out and have loved it to this day. His first two albums are my favorite and still enjoy playing them. Great classic rock like this reminds me of what I read on Facebook. "The reason the younger generation are so angry is because their music sucks". Peace to all.

I'm old enough to remember when this came out in the 80's and it was BAD then!!!! 1981, I was a senior in high school, with prom yet to come and then off to college. We played the grooves out of the record back then. I have watched this version at least 73 times today, back to back to back. It NEVER gets old. Sounds just as fresh today as it did 40, 40 years ago! I introduced my son to this today. It gives me goosebumps and chills even today. I agree, this is even better than the original. It is an awesome, awesome song.!!!!
The good “old times” of true rock-variety music without any autotune and true musicians who know how to make the anxiety rise in the audience in the overture of a show. I always loved Phil Collins. One of the rare anglo singers I was involved with during my youth in the 80’s France. He was the amazing drummer of the band Genesis and became the leading singer when Peter Gabriel (another favorite of mine) eventually left… Sting is also in my hit list with Freddie Mercury. Good memories needless to say.

I remember getting Phil’s album No Jacket Required as a little girl. My dad was a huge fan and a drummer himself. I have such good memories and vibes over his music. He was so huge in the 80s. I’m reading his book right now and I’m so enjoying hearing more about his history.

I'm old enough to remember when this came out in the 80's and it was BAD then!!!! 1981, I was a senior in high school, with prom yet to come and then off to college. We played the grooves out of the record back then. I have watched this version at least 73 times today, back to back to back. It NEVER gets old. Sounds just as fresh today as it did 40, 40 years ago! I introduced my son to this today. It gives me goosebumps and chills even today. I agree, this is even better than the original. It is an awesome, awesome song.!!!!

I always loved Phil Collins. One of the rare anglo singers I was involved with during my youth in the 80’s France. He was the amazing drummer of the band Genesis and became the leading singer when Peter Gabriel (another favorite of mine) eventually left… Sting is also in my hit list with Freddie Mercury. Good memories needless to say.

I saw Live Aid live on tv that is. He played across the pond, flew on the Concord and played here in the same day! Pure freaking magic!!!! I loved that you weren’t quite sure as to his headset. I was giggling thinking HE IS THE DROP!! Whether Genesis or solo, Phil has been a part of my music landscape forever. Yes, I’m a bit older than you and a music freak chick!! 🙏🏼❤️

I remember getting Phil’s album No Jacket Required as a little girl. My dad was a huge fan and a drummer himself. I have such good memories and vibes over his music. He was so huge in the 80s. I’m reading his book right now and I’m so enjoying hearing more about his history.
