THIS interview is exactly what i wanted to see. There's so many weird interviews with waltz on american talkshows, where they talk about hamburgers (?!). All i want to know is how he reflects upon his craft.
Could not have said it any better. This is gold I was looking for. The actor himself reflecting on his "craft", masterpiece interview and no sight of hamburgers thankfully.
I'm so happy that Christoph has been "plucked out", as he said, from the state of discontent he felt in his career, because he truly deserves that. When I first watched his performance in Inglorious Basterds, I was mesmerized by his acting. Such a talented actor.
the first ten minutes of him i was captivated by his ability and remember thinking where has this guy been hiding and couldn't wait to see more performances and he hasn't disappointed..yes QT wrote it but this man makes his characters come alive with great prestige...so glad QT does give obscure actors or even so called washed up actors chances to bring out their best
"there are several people in this world that speaks several languages..." "like you" "it's not such an acomplishment really..." the humbleness of this genious
Well, speaking English and French as a German-Speaker isn't really uncommon. Sure, his french pronunciation is out of this world for a Austrian, but there are many actors that can do that too.
He’s right. Outside of the English language-sphere, not being at least bilingual is very much out of the ordinary, and being multilingual is also quite normal. I don’t think I know a single person my age who doesn’t speak at the very least three languages. Many of these people don’t speak all of their languages as well as Waltz, but still: “there are several people in this world that speak several languages” is almost an understatement
Hebrew English and Spanish Music and the language of Nature. 🔥❤️🔥 Its good to understand several points of view, the relation between them, and the different pase of each realm of expression to its fullest. The final act of liberation is an act of understanding.
"He plucked me out of negativity" wow, it just goes to show how so many people try so hard for so long and all they need is an opportunity to shine after so long.
Christoph really deserved to become a big actor. You can tell that he works extremely hard to play characters, and he has a great talent as well. I’m glad he was plucked out of relative obscurity because he’s so good at acting
This interview is awesome. I always wanted to see how he really thinks in terms of his craft after the roles he’s had. There has always been a depth and layers to the performances he’s given that I have not seen before in any other actor/actress. Top tier actor.
I mean the interviewer is doing an amazing job. I’m really impressed. Thanks to him this interview is so good imo. One of the best I’ve ever seen tbh. I don’t know if he is always this good I’ve not seen many interviews with him.
What a phenomenal interviewer this Charlie Rose is... this is exactly how exclusives with stars should be conducted! Rather than asking irrelevant and lazy questions about pop culture and German stereotypes, this man has done his research, and has done Christoph's brilliance justice. Open-ended, engaging, thought-provoking questions about career and craft rather than invasive nothings of personal lives and stirrings of the pot of the day. I love how Mr. Rose plays off Christoph at 14:28, his genuine interest and desire to deepen the audience's understanding and appreciation of this actor on full display in his voice! Bravo!
I have to say, I genuinely think Waltz is the greatest actor of this generation. He perfectly encapsulates the character he's portraying and steals the limelight everytime he is on screen.
This gentleman, the interviewer, is elegant, heartwarming, and good at finding the best thing out of the guests. I feel emotional hearing Christoph Waltz talk about his career. ❤❤❤
The years of theatre performances come out in his acting and why put him at the top of the ladder on screen - such a multi faceted and dynamic actor..his scenes on film are like watching a prodigious soloist in an already highly talented ensemble
Christoph is a god damn legend. He stole the show in inglorious bastards, and Django. How he stood out in Django I don't know leo had one his greatest performances ever Samuel Jackson shit enough said, and Jamie Foxx was spectacular. Christoph was a calm cool collected gentleman and a complete badass and the time he did lose his cool was absolutely amazing.
I LOVE this guy. Remember how DVD's or Special Edition boxes of films woukd come out and you'd get a directors cut and/or commentary as your watching the film, sometimes you'd get the making of? Well, I would LOVE to see the making of this entire film with Tarantino directing and all the commentary and stuff. I miss that about films--with streaming services, you don't really get much of anything when it comes to that.
This man is so fine! I could listen to him to all day even if he just read me a story time book I would still listen regardless this man is so gorgeous over all period his wife is so lucky
Ugh isn't he perfect!!! He is so incredibly dreamy-- intelligent, creative, well mannered, authentic, humble, self aware, compassionate, talented... He's absolutely mesmerizing and I wish he was mine to keep!!! 🤤🤤🤤🤤🙌🙌🙌🙌❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
Thanks for all these videos man, i be eating this shit up like candy. They should have many more views....maybe change the format of the title? Thanks again
Incredible actor, and his American English has barely any noticeable accent. Never thought I’d see someone who spent almost their entire life in Germany/Austria so effortlessly and correctly use a slang term like “highfalutin”, especially given that it’s a much more common expression to hear in the Southern US and not at all universal for English speakers.
As he said, is not only to learn the language to speak in it, but to learn from it or to create from it, you can clearly see that he is highly intelligent and educated, a person who really loved what he was doing and prepared himself very well, so probably he is the kind of person that learns the history of the language too, not only the words ....and maybe thats why he was frustrated, he was clearly an elite actor looking to expose all his work in to his job.
One of the most brilliant actors. I am so proud that I saw his acting in my lifespan. Thanks Mr. Waltz for such brilliant performance as Hans Landa. I must say the acting was terrifying and really as a Shrud Detective you enlightened.
You could be right. He may have slow played that on purpose to illicit that response and make Rose invested in his analysis. Very good teachers do this and conmen. His nod and approval is saying “your right” and his silence is “not everyone knows. It’s our secret”. That is effective language on a different level. Secrets have this strange quality. We assume their true with no other knowledge except it’s secret. No one keeps secrets that are not true and everyone believes their logical conclusions are the truth. This might be the most condescending move I have ever seen. This isn’t conflict. This is a very dangerous game of chase. German must use subtle language to get her to trip up and she must parry without divulging. She cannot engage in conflict because that’s a death sentence for a Jewish in Nazi areas.
He portrayed a terrifying German interrogator. A true Genius to his craft. He is also extremely hard working. Just look at all the outside research he did to accomplish the role.
It’s funny because the scene he was about to shoot when he felt he was reminded why he is acting is the first time we were introduced of Christoph Waltz acting. Truly a remarkable monologue that was.
Great interview. Inglourious Bastards was Tarantino's worst film, but Waltz's role and character was definitely Tarantino's greatest creation. Waltz was the best part of that film.
Well :Christoph Waltz is very very Inteligente 👏🏽👏🏽Bravo Maestro but,hes Gift is to create from Carácter to a live Coronel Landa His Profesión was Detective Titanic Job I must to say 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽🏆Amigo kept that Pipe your Earned!!!
Mr Waltz is my favorite actor! But notice how he did not like the interviewer! ( i agree) lil fun facts (1:20 you should look again at the body language) The interviewer is creepy dude... lol
Christoph is so modest. In fact Quentin Tarantino said Hans Landa was created for Christoph, he is the only person who could have played that character. He wouldn't make the movie if Christoph wasn't involved.

Exactly how I wound up here as well
he's obviously smart as shit so it does suck to see his mind wasted on silly topics. this is a great interview for sure
@@timhorton7799 dude speaks every language in this world perfect xD
I saw him on Conan and it was unbearable. Conan asked a question then cut him off several times with a lame joke before he could answer

well said
Perfectly said. Owned every scene
He's the goat at playing villains
His scenes are iconic while the movie is average. Very smart man.

Full agree. Disappointed that he turned out to be a creep, his interviews were always great.
To think that the cosmos aligned to bring Waltz and his talent to the forefront of cinema from obscurity is almost whimsical.
I´m glad he was discovered. What an underrated performer he was!
Wdym was? He’s still active and still acting
