I gotta say, I am pretty impressed. I wasnt aware Hans Landa could act like this. His interpretation of a normal person is so flawless. Seems like things went ok for him in the States after the war.

I got the impression from Hans Landa that he didn't hate people, he enjoyed them, he played with them, but he was all to willing to destroy his playthings when he was finished with them.
+youngoldbones He said in the movie that he was a detective in Austria. And i agree, i think he wasn't that bad. Out of that context i think he would've been a fun person to hang out with.

+MrSatanochio Landa was a psychopath, everybody is a potential victim, just as was the case in the film. He didn't hate Jews, he simply enjoyed impunity for any acts he committed against them. They were a useful release valve for his sadistic tendencies. To hang out with a psychopath is a precarious pastime, psychopaths divide the world into just two categories. In Landas case that would be himself, and then there's everyone else. If he can come by gain or cover a crime by harming or killing you, then you won't be enjoying any lasting friendship, and why enjoy such a persons company? Sadism by Proxy? Or would you check out before any violence takes place? See this is the problem with movies, we're removed from real world violence and the pain and the grief that result from such actions. I remember as a kid when gun smoke was called out for gun violence (the morality of the violence was never ambiguous, nor did it elevate those who did evil) today though, killers are respected, weird.
I feel smarter just listening to this guy

I have been English for my 75 years. I can speak French, Spanish, a bit of Russian and Swedish, just a little bit of German, but this man speaks English better than most English people I've ever met.

Stop saying the interviewer sucks. This is what an unedited interview is like, awkward pauses and misunderstandings and whatnot, that just goes with the territory of having a forced chat with someone. I happen to think the interviewer is quite good.

I have a feeling in django unchained he wasn't acting. but reacting to what the other characters were doing haha. his acting seems so real
The accent really helped him i think. And having English as a second language. It created a fully genuine split-second delay after and before every line. He has to think about the words more carefully

Many actors has said that the art of action is listening and then reacting.
You could make an argument that he did the exact same thing in Inglorious Basterds. He interacted with the other characters and allowed them to either defeat themselves or not.
I love how Waltz gets so comfortable in this interview. Asking about film history and such.
How is it possible not to love this man? Brilliant actor, amzaing man.
I know him from German movies and always felt he was underrated and needed bigger roles. But they did not give him that chance until Tarantino helped him.

I'm so glad he was introduced to American film industry. I've gone back to watch his previous work, and realized we watched the movie Kopfstand in my high school German class ten years ago. He's enchanting to watch.
It’s such a cool story, huh? I also love that he’s appreciative towards Quentin and I also think it’s so freakin cool that he’s the only actor that Quentin has gotten an Oscar and he did it twice. They needed each other!

Lovely interview. Really highlights the many varied and thought out facets of this marvelous actor. Here he is anything but brash, even when blunt. Thoughtfulness, consideration. Listening and then telling his truth, while never becoming declarative. I love when an interview enhances my respect for an actor.....or anyone, and this one did!

Such an elegant, talented man. What a rarity in Hollywood. I find it interesting and would love to be able to ask him if it's in his nature as an Austrian to understand the concept of a director and do as written rather than the actors we sometimes have who seem to be more concerned with their own image than what the director's overall view of the production is. It's a different point of view coming from a european background vs an American one, it seems.
I've been in Austria one year, and I have to say, that everybody in Austria is as polite and at the same moment shy and intimidated as Christoph. I don't know why is that, and it took some time to discover that, but it is great to know, that not only mr Waltz thinks the way he thinks.

Such a wonderful characteristic to have. Soooo absolutely rare in America anymore. I am such an old soul in such an image-obsessed world here....no wonder I'm still single and extremely picky heading into my mid 30's 😒 Lol

A pleasure to watch on screen and a pleasure to merely listen to in a casual setting such as this.
I know it's quite a while ago when you made your comment, but maybe you are still interested and maybe it's still news to you: Christoph did work as a director in different European opera houses (Netherlands, Switzerland, Austria). He was born into a theater & opera family, that might be the reason why he always had a wider perspective on acting.
This man could read me a molecular biology textbook, and I'd be completely entertained.

It's great to see how deep Mr. Waltz dived into such a character as Hans Landa by understanding a German Spy character. I am sure it took a lot of time for him to undergo a tough and Cynical character like Hans Landa. Salute for your immaculate performance.
Never saw such a handsome man like this before. I saw just 2 movies, inglorious bastards and DJango. I was hooked! I never saw any of his German shows sadly. I love his accent. Although I have to say he was so good I saw him as a real nazi for a second there and wow! Idk maybe it was the handsome uniform, his voice is so suductive, misspelled, I love him stumbling over the English words. He's so human. And humble. For a German i was brought up to hate germans (dad fought nazis.) But I have changed my mind because of this man. I know now the war is long over, and after watching this interview I see the real Christoph, and man he's a fantastic, the best!!! Actor!!!! He never stumbles in the movies. He's that good. Of course I'm in love with him. I'm 62, older than him, but I love him.DJango movie did that. He looks great in a beard, and I hate beards! He's everything i was taught to hate, and I refuse to hate him EVER! I love him, hopelessly. I haven't had a man in 25 years! I'm so lonely, but seeing him everytime I think I could marry him arranged marriage and be happy! But alas we covet what we see closest to us. TV and movies have given us a wide range of stars to covet, but alas! They are indeed untouchable. He's very private I heard. I kinda missed half the interview, no captions and I am very hearing impaired, even with professional speaker to my ear I can hear him and love that voice! I'll die alone, but in my dreams I have my many loves from TV and movies. Christoph has shook me up inside and I never loved anyone, but I sadly do love him and he's not mine to love. That's a problem with seeing only movies and TV, I have no one else! My neighbors all speak Spanish. I'd prefer it to be German but alas not a German neighborhood anymore. First black moves in all our German neighbors ran away fast! I was left with only African men to choose from so no, I haven't dated. I'm not prejudice per say, my kid is half black. Of course he left me alone with the baby. I was just to shy around white men. I probably would be tongue tied if I met Christoph!!! I want to hug him so bad. Love him! But Hollywood has created a slew of actors we all fall for. Well, I fell for him. I know he would never date me or love me, He's a star now! I always had bad luck finding a good man. I just didn't know what to do. I was a virgin til I was 23! And I screwed that up. No white wedding now for me. I felt ruined. All I have are my fantasies. Sad but true. Real regular men just don't hold my interest. It's sad. My life is almost over. I'm young at heart but going on social security and about to try to live on 400$ a month. I'm terrified. I think actors when they get old like Christoph are blessed! Handsome, in demand, and I don't know where my next meal will come from. Sorry, it's sad but true. I am a joke and a waste of space. I will always love Christoph but I also will truly be alone. That hurts. Dreams are my only happiness. Dreams of Christoph.

christoph is completely right about deadpan comedy, its the best form of comedy because it's not playing funny its being funny, being naturally entertaining and not forcing a laugh out of an audience. it's so easy for played out comedy to be cringy and turn sour. Deadpan is so much more genuine and cool honestly.

Unlike any interviewer when they interupt him and talk to much, ask question but never really wanna hear the answer. They dont understand he is very intelligent and chooses his words carefully to describe the answer best. This is one of those rare interview where Waltz so relaxeled and able to talk alot.

So much hate for the interviewer in the comments! Why? Guess, some fans are just overprotective of their idol, no matter if he is in any way threatened or offended. I really enjoy this channel. David's interviewing style is perfect for creating interesting relaxed conversations. And he continually demonstrates deep knowledge and love for cinema. This interview is no exception.
If there are a few comments about the interviewer, it must land as such. I immediately got the impression that Waltz wasn't appeased by this interviewer, and felt he was simply wasting Waltz's time. This interviewer either had a bad day, or is simply bad at his trade

I'm sure it's appropriate for many actors but for an actor of such staggering talent to not get the recognition his talent deserves for 30 years is a crime. He is a joy to watch in every single scene I've seen him in.
