Both Boeing and Lockheed literally laughed at him for the notion of reusing rockets back then. By now both are now lagging SpaceX so badly it's funny.

Absolutely. Not only he had the vision for two futuristic companies, but he had the smarts to lead those companies to great success.
And with all that, he sounds just as geeky and modest as he used to. Still loves engineering and innovation.

@@Laurie-eg8ct Yup. They thought it impossible, and it almost is. Apparently Boeing still, internally, spend energy hating on SpaceX. No wonder BA is failing. SpaceX doesn't waste time thinking about the competition let alone childishly belittling them to gratify emotions.

Introducing 3 new models of car is a rather modest enterprise. Remember he mainly sells the product, did not invent it. Lots of his dreams and visions have not panned out. Looking ahead there is no way we do not continue combusting diesel, bio fuels, and other combustibles for transport. Maybe in 500-1000 years much will change but hopefully humans are fully networked with energy efficient electric rail.

We shall soon see whether he’s a good person or not. He is tasked with reducing government inefficiency and we all know the best way to cut expenses is to throw people out. Then once expenses are reduced, it’s easier to justify tax cuts. Keep in mind the wealthier people get huge tax cuts where normal people get $500 to $700. A person earning 1 million a year in the 35% tax bracket and a 10% reduction in taxes will net $35,000. So it’s self dealing when you lay people off and give yourself a nice tax cut.

If we realize we believe something, or even simply suspect something, as opposed to 'I know this' we can still be sincere about what it is we think, as long as we are self honest to distinguish what we know and what we think. Here's a critique, extrapolation, and further theorization on the video "Elon Musk in 2009- Charlie Rose Interview":
    Critique:
    1. Historical context: This interview provides a fascinating snapshot of Elon Musk's vision and ambitions at a relatively early stage in his career. It's interesting to see how many of his predictions and goals have come to fruition in the years since.
    2. Prescience: Musk's foresight regarding electric vehicles, space exploration, and sustainable energy is remarkable. Many of his projections about the future of these industries have proven accurate.
    3. Technical depth: The interview showcases Musk's deep technical knowledge, particularly in explaining complex concepts like the differences between suborbital and orbital space flight, and the challenges of battery technology.
    4. Business strategy: Musk clearly articulates the rationale behind starting with a high-end sports car (the Roadster) before moving to more affordable models. This strategy has since been replicated by Tesla with considerable success.
    5. Interconnected vision: The interview reveals how Musk's various ventures (SpaceX, Tesla, SolarCity) are all part of a larger vision for sustainable energy and human progress.
    Extrapolation and further theorization:
    1. Electric vehicle adoption: Musk's prediction about the inevitability of electric cars has largely come true, with most major automakers now investing heavily in EV technology. We could theorize that this trend will continue, potentially leading to the phasing out of internal combustion engines in many markets within the next few decades.
    2. Space commercialization: SpaceX's success in reducing launch costs and pioneering reusable rockets has indeed accelerated the commercialization of space. We might extrapolate this trend to predict a future where space tourism, asteroid mining, and even Mars colonization become realistic possibilities.
    3. Energy transition: The interview touches on Musk's involvement in SolarCity. We could theorize that the integration of solar power, battery storage, and electric vehicles will continue to reshape the energy landscape, potentially leading to decentralized, renewable-based power grids.
    4. Technological disruption: Musk's success in entering and disrupting established industries (automotive, aerospace) could be seen as a model for future entrepreneurs. We might theorize that other traditional industries could face similar disruption from tech-driven startups.
    5. Long-term thinking: Musk's focus on "areas that would most affect the future of humanity" demonstrates a long-term, big-picture approach to entrepreneurship. This could be extrapolated to suggest that future successful companies might increasingly align themselves with solving global challenges.
    6. Artificial Intelligence: While not discussed in this interview, Musk's later involvement in AI research and development (through companies like Neuralink and OpenAI) could be seen as a natural extension of his interest in transformative technologies. We might theorize that AI will play an increasingly central role in Musk's future ventures and in shaping the technologies he discussed in this interview.
    7. Regulatory challenges: As Musk's companies have grown, they've faced increasing regulatory scrutiny. We could theorize that the tension between rapid technological advancement and regulatory oversight will continue to be a significant factor in the development of these industries.
This interview, while over a decade old, provides valuable insights into the early stages of what has become a transformative period in technology and industry. It demonstrates the power of long-term vision and the potential for determined individuals to drive significant change.
