I've changed the oil filter both ways; from the top and the bottom. While changing the filter from the bottom, it was easier with turning the wheels all the way to the left, as another commenter had mentioned. Typically, I didn't even have to raise the vehicle up, even! Just make sure you know which filter you need. Having the 5.4L (3V; 3 valves per cylinder) Triton engine, one would see the metric thread (a "22" stamped near the central hole at the bottom of the filter), and call for a Ford Motor Company brand filter of the FL-820S. Whereas, I've typically seen on a a 4.6L V8 Triton engine having a "standard thread", and calling for a bit of a narrower, and slightly smaller filter (we usually went with a good ol' NAPA Gold, or a WIX Ultra "-something or other" filter) Great video! I needed a refresher, as my friend recently got an '06 4.6L. And, the last oil change that the previous party had done was at a local dealer (a GM sales & service store)...and I nearly rounded the drain plug off; as they had to've impacted it back in. Also, I'm currently crumpling the oil filter whilst trying to remove it! Hopefully tomorrow will see the completion of this oil change, for now!!
Thanks for a very well-done video. Good lighting, focus, camera angles, and verbiage. Was trying to figure out where the filter was located in that beast.
I have 2 Triton engines. Take care of them and you will be happy a long time! I use only Motorcraft filters. 127k and 176k miles and counting Good video. Anybody can changer their own oil. Thanks for sharing!
Pour oil into your new filter first thing. While the oil is draining and you are removing the old oil filter the new oil will migrate through the filter media and be in between the filter media and the sidewall of the oil filter. now while you are installing that new filter no oil will run out of the new filter during installation. been doing it for years.
Hey bro ..My 07 4.6 let's me grab it from the bottom and bypass all the bullshit your doing ....who ever told you to go in from the top plus each truck has a drip pan that directs any oil away and down ...
Oil filter removal non-pro real life tip: valiant owner reaching down from the top of the engine to get to the filter through a maze of pieces and confined spaces. No no no, son. And don't lay under the truck while it's jacked up and your head is at the oil drain plug, you're facing front, legs toward the front. You'll scratch your head trying to think how to get it around a plastic piece in the way on an 08 F 150 4.6. Here's what you do: Crawl out. Into the light. From underneath. face the truck, driver side, underneath. Lo and behold my friend the bottom of the filter can will be facing you. Easiest removal if you have one of the inexpensive oil filter wrenches that fit on the end of it. Long socket wrench extension gets a precise, perfect fit. If Gorilla Jimmy has not torqued it to 200 foot pounds, you should be able to turn it counter clockwise to loosen. If he/she/it has over tightened it like an idiot, put something on the socket wrench to make a longer handle -- like a heavy metal pipe -- or you may need a Breaker Bar, and it will give you the extra torque to remove it. Only hand tighten plus just snug it up maybe a quarter of a turn, not 2 full turns. No way brother. You don't need all that farm power muscle for an oil filter. Save it for the fence stretching. For all oil filters, hand i tighten plus snug always unless some manual says otherwise. The filter won't loosen as you go down the road.
Did not wait until the oil drained down. Dit not start it let it run for a few minutes then let it set for a time allowing all oil to return to the pan. A true fail here folks.

Remove oil filter from bottom while you’re underneath draining the oil. Much easier

What about that big crossmember directly under the oil filter? Kid of makes it hard to change from below.
@@scrambler69-xk3kvturn the wheel all the way towards the left. I almost lost my shit trying to take of my filter until I decided to do that.😊

Maintenance is key!
Make sure to have a damn oil wrench with you ! When working on the 4.6

You're going through way to much trouble to remove the filter..just my opinion.
Perfect! Thank you!
Do not over tighten the drain plug you will regret it next oil change.
