This is hands down one of the best mixing channels
Watched this before my live sound gig, tried a few of these tips - can confirm it helps in a live setting. Esp that bump around 1.5k for intelligibility. Love your content.
That’s awesome that you were able to apply it that way!

Love these videos so much. Golden tips!
Thank you so much for sharing this, you are modelling my mixing skills more than I deserve.
Great tips, as usual!
Gorgeous video THANK YOU
Dude , tried these tricks on some old cover I did , holy crap did it make a difference ! Thank you to Miami and the rest of the JST team for being so informative 🙏🏻🖤
Always glad to help, Toni!

Haha you and me both bro
-Miami
Cool, informative video, thank you!
I can't help but think playing D&D with Miami and Joey would be the best session of my life! I am an audio nerd like everyone else here, but I am also a D&D nerd and imagine playing with Miami and Joey would be a most memorable experience. You guys are awesome!
ah dude great explanations and camera presence. really fun to hear you talk about this stuff :)
I've really been learning a lot by recording some simple material (or just taking loops/longer samples) and messing with my EQ curves & plugins, just listening and messing around with no particular intentions. Developing instincts, ears, and intuition about EQ. So much of this has to be learned from experience and ear training - no shortcuts :)
As one of the beginners I appreciate the first few tips, thanks! Can't wait to try some of these out
I keep coming back to this video cause it's honestly such a wealth of knowledge when it comes to EQing vocals. I'm messing around with JST EQ and I'm absolutely loving the results I'm getting.
Also, a quick little tip: close your eyes and click the disable button a random amount of times in your DAW when checking your EQ moves. Then keep clicking it on and off, and see which one sounds better to you. If the enabled version sounds better, you're on the right track, if it sounds better disabled, take a few steps back. I've been doing this and it's helped me not only do better mixes, but also trains your ears.
I always get stoked when you drop a new video! Definitely one of the best mixing channels I've come across! I know Joey has a quick guide to mastering, but I would like to see what you use in your mastering chain someday!
I’m all for it

Great cheat sheet!
I was working on making a female soul vocal sample fit better into a mix earlier this evening. Whilst the take had a really beautiful warmth to it, it still sounded a little too muddy in the low-mids. Tried the the 500Hz cut tip and it worked a charm. The difference in clarity just from that single move is ridiculous. I love this channel. Endless goldmine of info!
Miami bringing the gold 🙏🙏🙏
Appreciate you Brad!

I can't remember where I learned this idea, maybe this channel, maybe somebody else a while back, but one trick I like to use on vocals that are dark or dull sounding is to send the main vocal to another track, roll off everything under ~10k, even it out with a limiter and blend it slightly with the main vocal. As long as it's done carefully, it's an easy way to make a dull sounding vocal sound like a million bucks and has saved my ass a bunch of times.
@kernelxsanders Pretty sure I know exactly what you're referring to...Like a vocal support sort of thing, right? I remember hearing something like that too not long ago (but apparently long enough to forget lol) Thx for the reminder!🤘
I tell you this is going to help me a lot because I am a totally beginner in both producing and mixing
Glad to be of help!

THANKS
Some people base their entire mixing philosophy off that 8k shelf - looking at you CLA!
He is def the king of this
-Miami
Very useful, I always struggle with mixing vocals.
As long as you got some use out of it I can sleep easy at night!
-Miami
This really helped, thanks! Do you have any of these type of 'how to EQ _____' videos for other instruments yet?
Another great video Miami. Always pulling out gems from these videos. Quick Question: Will you and Joey be at NAMM this year?
Sadly not. I mean, I might be a straggler there, ya never know
-Miami
Will JST let you link to your own work? I'd love to check out your vocals on some songs. Miami is the most fun production tutorial guy I've seen. Thank you for making these videos to help us budding audio engineers out there!

"Buh-raking free from a memory, the last one I have of how things used to be." Now this line is stuck i my head. I won't be able to forget it) heh
Glad you dig it brotha!
-Miami
Breaking free from a memory, the last one I have, of how things used to be... YUH!
The 300 empty pocket was interesting i never thought about it.
Quincy who? U da man, bro!
Solid topics Miami. Curious on the 5k boost, do you find it competes with guitars in metal? I typically find myself boosting 5k in guitars so I was wondering if the the 5k boost trick on vocals would maybe work as a mid boost? However I also use trackspacer on my instrumental bus to make room for my vocals so I’m typically not having a lot of competing frequencies there, was just curious on your thoughts on that. Also I’d mention that if you’re using an sm7b to track vocals, that 400-500 mud cut ends up being like 400-700 and needs to be cut drastically.
Also I noticed on the recap for the 12k shelf it says 2k shelf on the slideshow screen haha. So now obviously I gotta go throw a 2k shelf on my vocals just to hear what it does.
Thanks for the advice as always.
I don’t usually find it clashing with guitars!
-Miami
Would you say that this also applies to Harsh vocals? Or is there something else we need to think about when approaching growls and screams?
It pretty much applies but the high end can sound a lot harsher when boosted on screams
-Miami
What if i have sibilance at 8khz ? what can i do if i can't boost 8k
I was already subbed, but I double-checked because I felt bad about jokingly shitting on your jacket a few videos ago. Make sure your jacket knows I was just playing, and not to get it's feelings hurt.
Nice vid!
What EQ moves do you make for your voice overs?
Def roll off, cut out that 400-500 boxiness, and then either a boost at 5k or 8k
-Miami
I dun subbed in to get the subs out dem vocals
Woot woot! That’s what’s up
-Miami
Yo what is that song at 6:30?….
Man. I wish i knew how to eq my own voice. But me + sm7b are not a match lol
I also like to write twelve kilohertz as 2K. Haha. Shit happens. No disrespect. Much love.
Lol I feel you
-Miami
BUHA-RAKING free 😂
