    I started my solo hike, From Reykjahlid with 8 days food supply, 9kg on my back and 4 kg on my front bag (ribz bag, pretty cool it balance the weight, and give you a fast access to your stuff like food, camera, water...). In the end I did 590km, it was my first big one, and also my first outside France. My tent weight 420g it's the Stealth 1 from trekkertent, it's lightweight and really strong even in Icelandic weather. I try my best to carry the less weight as possible, I think I did ok, and I will probably be a litle lighter on my next one. From this adventure I learn a lot, I enjoy greatly my time in Iceland, even if I had a few bad moment, it was steel a good experience.

    You were REALLY lucky, you had the most amazing weather .
    I did it and it rained most of the time . I am Icelandic but i still picked up the worst time to do it .
    I am sorry to hear you had few bad moment in Iceland but i hope you enjoyed your stay . Ironically , i have hiked and kayaked a lot in France , I did the Gorges du Tarn which i found insanely beautiful .
    J'espere que vous aurez une autre experience en Islande un jour .

      I had rain too but because of the strong wind it never last. Since my camera was not waterproof, I mostly filmed when the weather was fine. As for the bad moment it was mainly the the crossing of the Sylgja's river, it was scary, and it take me a few hours before i was able to figure out a way to ford it. I had also an bad expérience, just before i walk on the glaccier, I walk on some kind of natural trap. I sank slowly in the pebbles ground, upwards to the top of the thighs, and since it was ice under the pebbles, I hurt my hands in trying to escape of the hole who was begining to become bigger around me. Except for that, I enjoy greatly my time in Iceland.
      I will probably go back there in 6 years to hike from West to East,.Iceland is for me one of the best place for backpacking, but I want to hike in others country before doing another one.
      I didn't hike in the Gorges du Tarn yet, but I will in september, It look like a great place. It's cool you were able to enjoyed your time in France.

    Cool video! How did you handle with food? Did you carry everything for the whole trip or did you have possibilities, to pick food up somewhere? I'm doing an North to south trekking in July of this year

    Hello Stephane,
    Thank you for amazing Video.
    I plan for that year the same route.
    But I want to know how does it work to get the food pack's to the Cabine?
    And how do you managed the water problem around the Askia desert?

    • @stephanelair8285
      @stephanelair8285  5 років тому +1

      Hi Ralf,
      For the question on the food i already answer
      Kristoffer Valleroy (you can check too):
      - Inside the BSI I organise my backpack and my two rations Package. I had bring two cardboard, scotch and my food supplies.
      - Still inside the BSI, I send my two package by Reykjavik Excursions, one of 8 days food for nyidalur hut and one of 5 days food for landmannalaugar camp.
      When you arrive at Nyidalur, you will get your package, don't worry they keep it carrefully, I didn't have any problem with this one.
      As for the one in landmannalaugar camp, it was inside a container, unlocked. Since mine wasn't there, I ask a bus driver, who was close by, and he looked with me, and since it did't find it. He found a really old one (the expected recovery day put on your package was pass by 3 weeks), and advice me to take this one instead.
      Perhaps my package was somewhere else... because there was only old package in it.
      But the bus driver and a nice guy at the shop, told me that was the only place.
      But don't worry, most of the time you find your package.
      Don't forget to put your names clearly, on differents part of the package. Also the adress of the camp, the expected recovery day, what is inside, and what kind of hike you are doing.
      As for the water problem, I was offtrail, and except for the place I knew I was going to find water in the river, I mostly drink water from snow. Gave me some times and I will gave you the coordinate of where I found some, at least when I was there.
      Hopes it helps.

      @@stephanelair8285 oh my goodness this is the meaning of worst case.Thank God that your get an other packet.Hope the food was ok :)
      Thank you for sharing your informations.
      If its ok for you than i want to step in your footsteps and go your way.
      For sure if you give me the GPS points of the water spots i am very Thankful.
      How much gas do you need for that trip?

      Hi, I creat a wikiloc a page: fr.wikiloc.com/wikiloc/user.do?id=1137132
      I advice you to download base camp (it's free) and dowload this map www.ourfootprints.de/gps/mapsource-island_e.html. After that you can use my track from wikiloc.
      But beware there are few real dangers, if you go alone like I did, tou have to carry a PLB. Phone work better than expected, but still it's not on a track.
      One more time, it's not the normal north south Iceland hike, like most peoples do. I advice you to download the north south normal way, you sould be able to find them on wikiloc, as a plan B, just in case. Don't hesitate if you have questions.
      As for the others day, I will need more time to add them on wikiloc.
      As for gas, I used alcool instead, because the more you used it, the more it become lighter. And the stove is light too. You can buy it, very close to the BSI, in a gaz station (pink color), they have gas too, at least when I was there.

      c'est des caméra jetables lyophilisées en fait, une goutte d'eau ça se regonfle tu la pose, elle filme et te transmet ça via satellite. Elle se biodégrade ensuite dans la nature. Tu peux en acheter par paquet de 200 pour ce genre de longueurs !

    Its really awesome but how could you pack food for 20 days and what were included in your diet? :D

    • @stephanelair8285
      @stephanelair8285  6 років тому +1

      Before I start my hike, I had send a 8 days and a 5 days food package. When I started from Mývatn Lac, I had 8 days of supplies in my backpack.
      As for my diet:
      - 100g of breakfast powder (470 kcal, link: www.diet-sport-coach.com/pages/content/produits-energetiques/creme-sport-dejeuner-maison.html)
      - 100g chocolate (570 kcal)
      - 200g Nuts: Peanut, almonds, cashew nut, macadamia nuts, pine pinion, hazelnut (1300 Kcal)
      - 1 lyophilized meal (600 kcal for 150g)
      - 2 Balisto (200 kcal for 37g)
      Total 3140 Kcal for 587g by day.
      But beware if you walk like I did and ate only 3000 Kcal by days, you will lose weight. Personaly I have loose 7 kilos.
      As for how I organised my food supplies, I already talk about that in the comments sections, with Kristoffer.

    Do you still use the Trekkertent? Is it performing well in rainstorms?

    • @stephanelair8285
      @stephanelair8285  6 років тому

      Yes I still do. I did a long hike a few months ago,in the french's and italian's Alpes; I slept 24 night in my tent, most of the time between 2000m and 3000m, and even with windy or rainy difficult conditions, my Stealth 01 did perfectly is job ; but no surprise there, because in iceland I had a few tempest, and no problem with my tent. My only regret is I should had purchased the Stealth 1,5 instead, more spacious !

    • @villsefilmnu
      @villsefilmnu 6 років тому

      Thanks for the reply. Yeah I will go for the 1,5 but can't decide between the 40D Silnylon or 20D Silpoly. What did you choose?

    • @stephanelair8285
      @stephanelair8285  6 років тому

      I chose the 40D Silnylon. But in the past it was the only one in green, the other model was made in cuben in grey color. Because of that my choise was easy. I just check out the site, the price is the same, the only difference is 110g ... it's better to ask someone who use a 20d regularly. In my case I also added the extra low end door, when it's hot I enjoy the fact to be able to open the two doors, it feel more like a tarp. I bought also a net tent, but it's really small, I used only one time for a 3 days hike.For iceland I used a PolyCree for the floor, with an outer bag; For the alpes I used only the polycree with a mosquito head net (sea to submit).

    Glad the quick sand didn't get you. Would have been a terrible way to go.

    • @stephanelair8285
      @stephanelair8285  6 років тому +1

      Thanks, but I don't think I was in real danger at the time, only one of my leg was really stuck. From the start, I was expecting soon or later, to meet a quick sand, but still I let my guard down. That day I ford lot of rivers, and most of the time I did't filmed them, because I need to cross the river two more time, to get my camera back. Since this one looked easy, only a trickle of water, I filmed it, it should not have been much trouble, but in the end it did't go as I expected. :-)

    what about food supply? where can you buy it on the way? thanks

    • @stephanelair8285
      @stephanelair8285  6 років тому

      It's not possible to buy food on the way, except at Landmannalaugar camp; but that's probably extremely expansive, and at that point I was at 4 days of the end of my adventure. The best way, is to send previously, food packages to Nyidalur hut and Landmannalaugar camp. I give more details on this in the comments section with Kristoffer Valleroy. Don't hesitate if you have more questions.

    • @Mike-dq9sm
      @Mike-dq9sm 6 років тому

      I'm doing something similar next month. Going from North to South. Not doing any resupplies except for Landmannalaugar. So I'll have at least 2 weeks worth of food at the start.

    • @stephanelair8285
      @stephanelair8285  6 років тому

      Yes I did, I used a Garmin Etrex 20. I enjoy planning my personal hike with basecamp and google earth.
      When I'am in the outdoor, I more than happy to have everything on my gps. Also, at the end of my treck I get a recording of my itinary.
      Of course I also have maps, and a compass. And since we are talking electronics, I also have a PLB (McMurdo FastFind 220), really important in case of accident, when you are off trail.
