  • Day THREE of our 8-day road trip through the highlands of Iceland! Driving and river crossing adventure to Askja and Viti volcanic craters in North Iceland. The way to Askja is incredibly beautiful surrounded by black sand and lava. We drive on the F-roads F905 which has unbridged river crossings to reach the new lava field called Holuhraun from the 2014 Bardabunga volcano eruption. Lastly we hike to Drekagil - a river canyon with a waterfall at the end. Explore Iceland's sights off the beaten path. Stay tuned for follow up vlogs!

    This was the most magnificent trip that my wife and I have ever taken. We stayed in Reykjavik and took day trips each day. Jeannie’s maps were incredibly helpful. I was able to mark places I wanted to see and then plan our itinerary for each day accordingly. The maps were well worth the price and along with Jeannie’s tips, we were able to make sure that we had everything we needed for our trip. Thanks Jeannie for all of your amazing content!!

    We are in Iceland and finishing up our ten day driving trip while staying in Reykjavik. We did the south all the way to Diamond beach. Golden circle, Snaefellsjokull, Viking Longhouse, Sky Lagoon and we are doing the food walk today. Great tips on all of these places and the stops to make. So many things to see in such little time, we will have to do the north and east part of the Ring road on another trip. Thanks for making these videos!

    Hello, I was stationed in keflovic fron aug 1972 until aug 1973, what a trip, all darkness then all light. Like you said the wind was always blowing really hard. I'm trying to get back, what a beautiful place.

    Iceland is such a beautiful country! I visited Reykjavik last year and did the golden circle tour. My biggest regret was not hiring a car. Will do next time!

    Thanks! Great content, as always. We are headed to Iceland in the not too distant future. It's probably not polite to comment about a woman's gravid status. I've been watching the more recent posts like shopping at Bonus etc and thought I was in a time warp. You have a busy active toddler at Bonus and then, there you were in all your glory in the front seat of your car in this post. Watching the whole thing there is the disclaimer about midway through that this vid was shot in earlier. Mystery solved. Nice to meet your husband and watch you guys hiking to the falls, the Christmas House and crater. You truly are an ambassador for your Island Nation. Can't wait to see some of Iceland's beauty up close and personal (we are packing our Yak Tracks). Thanks again.

    Do you need 4 wheel drive to drive to Viti Lake?

    • @IcelandwithaView
      @IcelandwithaView  Рік тому

      Hi there! YES! A 4wd is required to drive on the one and only road that takes you the trailhead - F894. All F-roads require a 4wd.

    We are traveling to Iceland next month. I know it will be 🥶 cold. My question is this: I in my 70’s should I try and do an ice cave tour? Do you have some suggestions? Thanks Terri

    • @IcelandwithaView
      @IcelandwithaView  Рік тому

      Hi Terri! Sorry for the late reply, I hope you've not gone to Iceland without doing an Ice Cave tour! There are several options that you can try to fit into your itinerary, Katla Ice Cave (departs from Vík), Blue/Crystal Ice Cave (departs from Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon), or Into the Glacier (man-made ice tunnel departing from several locations, less than 2 hours from Reykjavík). The tour guide will provide you with all the right gear you need but I recommend having your own crampons for the rest of your visit. All of these tours are listed here: icelandwithaview.tourdesk.is/Tour?tag=301&attraction=&sort=0&pt=undefined&dt=undefined&vendor=&onlyFavorite=false&travelmethod=&privateFilter=false&searchParameter=®ion=0&durationType=undefined

    Hey Jeannie, we're hiring from Happy Campers their 4x4 XL Campervan; will this get us to Askja and other 'challenging' locations. We're travelling in June. Thank you.

      Those are arctic fox pups, they are dark-brown as pups and they eventually shed get white fur for the winter.
