An old Icelander here. Thank you for this video. On Saturday morning (it's Thirsday now) I will be going to Landmannalaugar to start this trail. Even if I'm a 70 year old Icelander, I have never taken a highland hike like this before. I hope this will get me going more in the future.
Great info here but an update: Reykjavik Excursions no longer offers a "Hiking Pass." It continues to offer daily bus transportation to and from Landmannalagur, Thorsmork and Skogar, but you must purchase separate tickets for each leg of the journey. TREX continues to offer a Hiking Pass option. Each carrier has significantly increased its pricing over the 2020 figures quoted in the video.
Glad you pointed this out. It seems prices have almost tripled since 2020. On top of this, the ride back is around 10 hours long because you're on a tour bus that makes stops.
This video is extremely helpful. I just booked my trip to Iceland to hike this trail and found all the info on setting up my trip with the websites added in this video. Thanks !
Thanks for sharing..this was very interesting to watch...I live in the Caribbean and may never do something like this in my lifetime but I commend you for doing the hike and sharing your journey with us...
Thanks so much for posting. I'm booked to do this later in the year and it will also be my first proper solo multiday hike so being able to see the terrain and how easy it is to navigate has really helped soothe my nerves.
So light, compact, informative, and scenic video! Thanks, Allan. Planning to make Laugavegur & Fimmvörðuháls + some 1-days hikes at the beginning of September. Already saw, that will have to hitchhike when returning back to Reykjavik. Praying for the same weather you had 🙂
thanks so much for this beautiful, calming video. 💜🙏 It felt like a meditation to me. I went hiking in Iceland for 3 weeks a few years ago, and this video brought back so many memories. 🚶♀🕉
about a half mile away from Emstrur camp site, is an AMAZING and huge canyon for the river Markarfljót, that you can explore. Our guide took us there after set up our tents and had some food. It was one of my favorite parts of the 4 days.
I’m just reading Wild Silence where the author describes her experience on this trail. This video helps see the landscapes, even though I’ve hiked in volcanic terrain before. One of the people she meets recommends the socks from the Mountain Mall!
My school has a yearly trip to Walk this tral for 8th graders. On my trip most of the people ended up vomiting in Emstrur and the rescue team of icland had to kom get the people how were sick. Despite what happened i still loved the hike and would rate it a 9 out of 10. Over all recommend trying it some time.
Came across your Japan videos while I was planning a Japan trip over the pandemic and love how relaxing, beautiful, and informative they are. I just got back from walking the nakahechi route of the Kumano Kodo solo and this one is looking amazing for the next trek abroad. Keep up the great work :)
very well done video. Thank you. I am strongly thinking about this hike end of this summer. This made it seem like far less planning than I thought.. Thanks!
Great thorough report of the trip, thanks! Big inspiration, I'm planning to go in the summer of '23! How did you manage you power-supply with your camera and drone? I have many many more questions for you, but this is #1. Thanks !
Amazing video and cinematography. You captured the beauty and dramatic landscapes of the Laugavegur hike. Watching your video brought back good memories.
Great work Allan, outstanding video! Very informative from beginning to end which is just what I needed as I'm preparing myself for this hike. This also will be my first multi-day solo hike but I will be doing the trail in September. Also, cinematography was superior!
If you take the trail all the way to Skolgar(sp) it is best to just to take the public bus back to Reykjavik. It is probably cheaper and definitely faster
@@AllanSu Hi, Allan! Thanks for responding..... I'm curious bc I'm planning a 2nd Trail Odyssey for Scandanavia, Great Britain & Europe and am wondering about each county's (National?) Park system... Still reseaching, but like to get feedback from ppl who have actually been. :)
Your backpack seemed small. ...you were able to pack your tent, sleeping bag, cooking gear etc in it???? What airlines did you use. I have flown in Iceland air before they charge a good bit for baggage. Thanks. Great Job.
Yes, I go pretty light weight. My camera gear is probably the bulk of the total weight. As for airlines, this time I went with Iceland air and my backpack was my carry-on.
Sick video! I can hardly wait for the highlands to open up again next year. Your musical timing with your edits is great by the way, makes me a bit emotional while I watch some of your Iceland videos. Anyway, I look forward to learning about your next adventure!
What a great video Allan it’s given me a great insight to the trail which I will be doing in August so thank you. What month did you take on the trail?
Hey Allan, been a subscriber since your japan videos. Gotta say I love the solo hiking video, would love to see more solo videos. Always wanted to solo travel but don't have the guts to do so, anyway keep up the good videos. Love and peace
A huge thanks to you for the guide! One important question: how to cross big rivers without a bridge? Are they deep? Is the stream fast? I slept in such a river last year in Norway and badly hurt my knee...
I always enjoy your guides, Allan. Yourself and Kraig Adams are my favorite UA-camrs, so it was cool to see you do something similar. I noticed you opted for a quilt for your sleep system. What quilt do you have and how did you find it for this trip? Was it drafty at all? Thanks!
A really great film - thanks for sharing. What time of year did you go? I am thinking of doing this trail and would like to avoid the bugs and in your video it didn't look like you suffered with insects very much.
Hi Allan thank you for this! I’m more Confident I can do this solo! You won a new subscriber. I did Everest Base Camp trek earlier this year . This is more beautiful and encompasses so much variation in scenery. Question: how do you get from airport to where the buses ? How far is that ? Maybe a taxi ? Thanks again , I’m planning to go mid- August 🙏🏻
You take the flybus from the airport to Reykjavik BSI bus terminal. This is where you take the bus to landmannalaugar. The trip is around 45-60 minutes
I have an experienced backpack group of 10 guys, we want to go to iceland, but we would like something a bit longer, more challenging and perhaps more remote. Any other suggestions for Iceland?
How long does the highland bus take to get back to Reykjavik? I've heard it can take 10+ hours with many stops along the way (but may be thinking of a different bus).
Thanks! I am staying at Langidalur on the last day which doesn't have a restaurant. Any idea how far a walk it is to the hut you staying in to get a meal?
I would personally try to avoid late June, as there still may be a lot of snow on the trail which can be an issue. But anywhere between July through August should be fine. Once September comes around, the weather gets colder and becomes unpredictable

@@MeChoonChannel It was fantastic! I was a lttle concerned that this would be too hard for me, but but I was in a fine shape and this was easy.

Beautiful, beautiful documentary. So calm. Rewarding. So serene.
Such diverse landscape, it looks like an amazing hike. I love the way you layout and present your vlogs too, informative but also captivating.

interesting video Allan Su. I smashed that thumbs up on your video. Continue to keep up the high quality work.
Great guide Allan, detail and informative. Good to know that this was your first multiday solo hike too.

Great video. Have to admit really liked it without the commentary! The trail is on our list. We drove right round Iceland via Route One....in winter.
This video helps a lot in picturing how would the trekking like. Thank you
Your videos are absolutely superb. Thanks for posting
Backpack from HMG, but tent from aliexpress... didnt expect a combination like that. Great vid by the way.
Thanks! Yeah what works work

There are definitely mom like landscapes. I WOULD SAY IT SEEMS A BIT DESOLATE IN SOME PARTS. You were brave Thanks for sharing 🇨🇦
Great video and presentation👍👍!! Curious what one would do if bathroom break needed between campsites.
Another excellent video, Allan. Hope to do this trail in then ext year or two.🤩
Great highlight video man, those drone shots are incredible…I’m curious what you shot then with…?
Thanks for this amazing resource! Beautifully done. Hope to do this hike in august.

What a great video and so helpful for my preparation to do the trail! Very well done with some amazing shots.
Would you say that the marathon hindered your experience?
Awesome video man! Will be doing this hike in july!
Would've preferred without it. But it wasn't too bad since it got empty again right before the river crossing towards Emstrur.
Thank you so much for recording your adventure, experiences and advice!
I really love you travel videos. Learnt a lot from them. A very good reference video for me. Well done, Allan!
Thank you so much, amazing video and tips.... You ve inspired me to do it! Lots of helpful advice and suggestions 😊

A huge thanks to you for the guide!
One important question: how to cross big rivers without a bridge? Are they deep? Is the stream fast? I slept in such a river last year in Norway and badly hurt my knee...
At least knee deep for the bigger rivers. But it really depends on the weather
Great job as always! How/where did you recharge your camera/drone batteries?
No recharging. Just brought three batteries with me and picked my shots
Dude, these shot are amazing
Thanks guys
Looks incredible. Thanks for sharing!

A really great film - thanks for sharing. What time of year did you go? I am thinking of doing this trail and would like to avoid the bugs and in your video it didn't look like you suffered with insects very much.
I did this in July. I don't think you can do the hike outside of June-September. At least before access to the trail gets closed for the winter.
Thanks, im thinking of doing this
