  • A 19 days adventure, a mixe between packraft and hike. Probably the best way to explore the Tarkine.
Although not designated as a national park, the area contains a wildly diverse landscape - including Australia's largest patch of temperate rainforest - and a world of natural treasures including mountain ranges, wild river and cave systems, buttongrass moorlands, and a rugged coastline with long sandy beaches, grassy woodland and coastal heath.
Personally, the tarkine deserve to be protected, it's a extraordinary place.

Thanks Eddy, I take a lot of time planing a trip, I have a few already planed for the years to come.
For the experiance part, I learn a lot from each adventure, this one was my first real one with a packraft.

Hi Stephane, I have finally been able to do a short variation of your epic journey. I don't have a proper packraft so could not do the Arthur river, which is very low now after a dry summer My starting point was Arthur river village and I mainly followed the coast to the Pieman river where I crossed with a "rapid raft " and then continued via Climies Track to Macquarie heads. The last days Mt Heemskirk and Zeehan were in the clouds. In March I had done Montezuma falls, Mt Murchison and Mt Farrell in fine weather. Again compliments on your route choice and carrying all that weight! Thanks for the inspiration, very few people walk this coast, I really enjoyed the solitude and the campfires, which are banned in all national parks. Vaya con Dios

Hi eddy, congrats on doing this adventure, it's not easy, because it's pretty remote, but like you I enjoy the solitude of the place. I will come back to australia in a few years to do another one, there are so much to enjoy there. See you.

Great photography Stephane, and good editing too. I'm glad that you got to see some of our amazing native animals too like the echidna, wombats and the birdlife. You have seen parts of Tasmania that I have never visited, and I have lived here for nearly fifty years. Rob, Prue (and Red)

      Thanks Rob and Prue.
Yea I was lucky, to see so many animals, but most of the time I couln't filmed them, like the tiger snake, platypus or the tasmanian devil... Also by using a gopro, you have to be very close to the subject, there are no zoom.
By using the river and by being autonom, I was able to fully enjoy the tarkine area.
There are still lot of place a wish to go in tasmania, like the area around the Eldon Peak.

So many positive comments, I could see the quality looked good and subscribed ... Great to actually see the landscape. I'd be happy to watch without the music, I personally think it would feel more like I'm along for the ride ... I'd like to hear the sounds of water rushing birds chirping ... Just saying. Thank you.

I use a alpacka packraft, a anfibio buoy boy as a safety jacket (there are risk to used inflatable vest), for the helmet , i use a lighter one, I don't remenber the brand, but it's one for climbing, it's also not recomanded, but it's a personal choise (lighter, more confortable, and can be used on glacier, or technical part of the mountain.)

The 6 first days are on the Arthur River, it was good because I didn't need to carry my backpack. Using this river it's probably one of the best way to enjoy the tarkine area.
I also did a 5 hours on the Piemen river, from the sea to Corinna.

I use the anfibio buoy boy, for all my adventures, because it's really light, and take no place in the backpack.
But you have to be aware of it's limitation, the obvious one is, since it's a inflatable vest (2 chamber), it can be punctured.

Yes I did, I saw 3 of them clearly, and a few others just the end of the tail or movements made by snakes (not sure there were all tiger snakes).
What surprise me, it's in most of the encounters, the snake were in a shadow of the wood, or rocks , and not taking a sun bath.

@@karchercheur2564 I had brought gaiters, but I didn't used them, the weather was too hot.
When I could'nt see my feet I used my trekking pole to make noise, but most of the time they leave first.
Just in case, I had purchased 2 travel assurance (antivenom can be expansive + you have to go to Hobart, meaning helicopter fee), I also had a PLB, and a bandage in the case of bad luck 😢.
