I´m from Iceland and my grandmother was born and raised in Hornstrandir. She was born there in 1922 and raised there with her 7 siblings and parents. Her aunt lived in the adjoining house with her husband and 13 children. All 21 children of both families were born in Hornstrandir, the oldest born in 1918 and the youngest 1945. The house where they lived was a 2-3 hour hike from the next house, and the closest village was a long boats trip away. They survived there by eating fish, birds and they kept a few sheep, and with the area being so far north they get 24 hour sunlight in the summer, and 24 hour darkness in the winter. The darkness was indescribable, walking out of the house you couldn´t see your own hands, even if you held them in front of your face. This darkness made the winters very difficult, and along with that there were snow storms and freezing cold temperatures. She had a couple of encounters with polar bears which had travelled on drift ice or swam from Greenland, the families were never injured but the polar bears would still come up close to the house and look through the windows for food. She moved to mainland Iceland with her cousin Jakobína (Jakobína Sigurðardóttir, known Icelandic author) at 16 to work and eventually met my grandfather. Her parents left Hornstrandir in the late 1940´s and were the last inhabitants in the area. The house has been dismantled but you can still find their old stove there in the grass 70 years later. My grandparents were happily married for 50+ years and she passed away in 2004, she was a wonderful loving grandmother with an incredible upbringing.

This was more engaging and had more production value than most documentaries/films I've seen in my enire life. Straight up art. Thank you for sharing your experience.
To be honest I always get blown away everytime I rewatch any Kraig Adams videos. The amount of effort that Adam spent - just to capture these moments for the world to see - is insane. Imagining climbing rocks, walking through muds, snow.. with cameras and equipment all around.. And it’s his passion of filming these simple things - that makes Adam’s videos so freaking special. It’s like watching arts to me thb, and should be stored into “the library of Earth footage” - in the last basement of humanity - in case of apocalypse lol 🔥
I feel ya. What I have done is that I am trying to move towards minimalism. If you spend less money on crap you don't need, that is money that you can save up. Then you can reduce the amount of hours you work. With what you've saved up and having less working hours you could do cool stuff.
Not to mention if someone photobombing, especiallya if you are in a group or there are many people around. Then you have to re-take the shot. Like in his Kilimanjaro video lol
I love this film. I love the fact that there is no need to use a single word. The music enhances the powerful ambience Iceland has. This kind of films are part of why I want to be a documentary filmmaker. Nice work, Kraig!
The point of a vlog is to log what is happening and your thoughts and stuff like that, all in video as opposed to writing it down in a journal. I wouldn't call this a vlog at all but just a really nice video of this dude's journey lol.
The drone shot at 10:29 is just 🙌🏾, it literally gave me chills. And seeing you walk on the edge, it really puts in perspective just how small we are, loved it!!👍🏾
After 2 years still my favorite hiking video. I’ll never forget the feeling when I saw the cliff and was shocked by how tech change individual’s life (views) totally. Nature is amazing. Human, as part of it, too.
When you are a usual POOR office worker you mean. Do wish we could all have rich parents to afford the gear and absence of responsibility to just travel the world with our lives. Absolutely beautiful video and landscape though. Thanks for using your freedom to show the rest of us peasants what we are missing.
@@janityy You get mugged, agressed, violated, run over, etc etc... in cities all over the world. You are more safe in these kind of environments than in your average urban one. Try it, you might actually enjoy it, or maybe you are just scared. If I went hiking like this by myself I wouldn’t be able to stop crying, everywhere is just beautiful, I’m overwhelmed watching this video, imagine seeing it all in real life 🥺✨
I started crying on my hike up King's Peak in Utah. It was in the middle of a moonless night and the stars were crazy brights, the wildflowers were glowing, the streams flowing... holy fuck it was awesome.
The first people there were most likely Vikings, so I’m pretty sure they would have been pretty pissed to basically sail for thousands of miles only to discover an island that is almost a replica of your home.
To me, this is the greatest hiking film ever made period. Its the simplicity of it. Every moment is just right. It doesnt get too big or too small...it just works all the way thru and you dont want it to end. It is the gold standard. Everything Kraig Adams makes is up there in the clouds. There are alot of other great filmakers doing tremendous works big and small, seen and unseen, inspiring millions to get out there in their own way. But this video to me, is the best of them all. Something for us all to learn from and be inspired by. I'm sure all the elite hikers/filmakers have all learned from this one and most would probably agree.
Looks peaceful when no wild animals are fighting around you and you fighting for your life in survival against the world. The world is harsh and difficult, some nice editing from a drone cam and ambient music makes it sound peaceful, calm and serene but it is far from that.
Ryan Dennler I guess you shouldn’t mix up your inner fights with your own demons unless you mean sheep and goat fights...also real world is much more beautiful and calmer than your mobile games like some survival games...welcome to the reality lad

He probably uses the camera on his drone, so he could just fly it towards him.
Maybe he has a drone for his camera

Not a single word spoken...yet one of the best videos of hiking. So pure and peaceful. Here in India, there's an environment of panic, uncertainty, anguish everywhere. We all are afraid right now. This was very helpful.

Tyrese Gibson not even fucking close. death stranding is nothing of fantastic. It’s understandable if even can’t like it but it’s far from being boring, it’s a took of fun of land exploration traversal.
Thanks Kraig!! We just completed the Hornbjarg to Veiðileysufjörður hike, which was very much inspired by your video which we watched years ago. It wasn't easy but oh so worth it.
Some of those shots... wow. The editing, the ambience, I’m speechless. You have a serious talent. Good luck with everything

@Catty Lynn I think I know what you mean. I get so immersed with the music and that feeling of adventure.
@Catty Lynn breathless
Probably one of the best and most surreal videos I have watched in 2019. I live vicariously through this video as I waste my life away in an office.
then just leave your old life behind and do something about it
@@eline5200 But that's hard to do. The fact is the vast majority have to live the office life.
@@jtmv8915 why?
@@jtmv8915 you dont HAVE to. This video is proof of it, you just need something you love and hard work.
I feel ya.
What I have done is that I am trying to move towards minimalism. If you spend less money on crap you don't need, that is money that you can save up.
Then you can reduce the amount of hours you work.
With what you've saved up and having less working hours you could do cool stuff.

I love this film. I love the fact that there is no need to use a single word. The music enhances the powerful ambience Iceland has. This kind of films are part of why I want to be a documentary filmmaker. Nice work, Kraig!
never thought a travel vlog could make me so joyfull and so melancolic at the same time. Damn
Stunning footage. How a vlog should be - less talking and more of the real thing. Iceland is on my bucket list. Loved it!
There is no one way of "How a vlog should be." Vlogs can be unique in many ways and this is just one way of them being amazing.
And seeing you walk on the edge, it really puts in perspective just how small we are, loved it!!👍🏾
Kraig, you should be really proud of yourself on this one...music and sound design was on point.

The world looks so beautiful and calm when it’s not fucked up by humanity - great great video! Thanks for sharing
Looks peaceful when no wild animals are fighting around you and you fighting for your life in survival against the world. The world is harsh and difficult, some nice editing from a drone cam and ambient music makes it sound peaceful, calm and serene but it is far from that.
