📽 📽 IN THIS WEEK'S VIDEO: 1792 Full Proof Single Barrel Select (125 proof, $50-55) vs. Old Forester Single Barrel Barrel Strength (127.1 proof, $80-100+)
We put this matchup into our head-to-head pool because these are both powerful Kentucky bourbons with similar proof and flavor profiles, but 1792 Full Proof single barrel selections are quite a bit easier to find and ring it at nearly half the price compared to Old Forester Barrel Strength single barrels. Are the Old Forester single barrels worth chasing? Are 1792 Full Proof single barrels a reasonable alternative? We find out blind.

Thank you both for the outtakes. Just can't get enough
Erin - the first time I got banana on the nose of a bourbon, it was a 6yr bib wilderness trail that had been open many months... it was banana bread. I can now pick up on it in others sometimes.
Not kidding about great content at the end. I’m still laughing. I plan on stealing that “this thing can bring the thunder” line. I can imagine all sorts of applications.
The 1792 Full Proof ($51.99 + tax) is my new favorite bourbon for making an old fashioned, it brings just the right amount of heat, something even Rare Breed doesn't do my old favorite! and the OF barrel strength is $82.99 +tax never say never but I just can't bring myself to do that at this time. Great review and 🥃Cheers!
For half the cost, you could do OF 100 proof or Benchmark single barrel, Bonded or Foolproof.
I haven't had 1792 yet, or any full/barrel strength spirits, so 1792 will be my next purchase the the full proof. The only OF I've have was a ""Taster's Pak of 1897, 1910, and 1920 in 375 ml bottles. Josh, Gunsmoke actually started on radio and transformed into a TV show. By the time it went off of TV, they almost changed the name to "Gumsmoke".😆 Gunsmoke trivia... Ken Curtis, who played Festus, was a really good singer, a tenor, who sang lead for several years in the old "Sons of the Pioneers" cowboy group. BTW (for those who don't know) there's a huge difference between "Cowboy" music and "Country" music. Josh and Erin, thank you for these great videos.
Love the info! Thanks so much for watching and commenting!
Awesome, glad to see the Old Forrester Barrel Proof make the match ups.
Glad I got the 1792 Store Pick $45 instead of doube for the OF.. Would like to see a comparison of the OF here to the 1920 & see if it's worth $30-40 more than 1920.
Great review. I found a OF SB Barrel Strength last week, which I am excited to try. After watching your video, I will be picking up a 1792 Full Proof to compare.
Love the “I Love You” and it goes to Ramblin Man without acknowledgement 😂😂
😂😂
I opened a 1792 full proof 3 days ago, not a store pick. It's morphed from a brown sugar, vanilla and canned pear into a brown sugar, vanilla and clove never did get any cherry on this particular bottle. The rye spice will opens up after a while in the glass and there are some savory spices that show up. First time I've tried this one but I'd say for the price this one's a winner!
In the last couple weeks found 4 differernt barrels of the Old Fo from $87-95 (all total w tax). 2 were at 1 store.
So, not sure if things changed since this vid, they started selling more barrels, the market slowed down, or something else.
Still never found the rye..
But didn't buy any of them, because I refuse to, if they don't offer a sample pour (even if have to pay for it). Heard too much bad stuff about these, to play Single Barrel roulette for $90.
Also, the same store had a 1792 FP pick $45, which I gambled on & it was great! Very nice sweet/vanilla on palate, though got no smoke that the label claims.
Erin isn't cheap, she is just uber frugal. That OF single barrel barrel strength is fantastic, but impossible to find. Instrument- harmonica, because its the best campfire instrument and it just melts my fiance! Good video y'all!
Harmonica is such a cool choice. Love it!
I’m with Josh . You go in deep and you pull back when you need to. Man oh man I took old Forrester store pics for granted a couple years ago. I drank through it so fast thinking it would be back on the shelf. So 1792 full proof it will be.
"Rambling Man" was an Alman Brothers song written and sung by Dicky Betts.
The only 1792 I have had is a Small Batch. I keep looking for a different bottle to no avail. I'll get one eventually. Old Forester on the other hand for some reason I always see on the "allocated" counter.
Seems like market availability is pretty varying on these two. OFSBBS is crazy rare here but 1792FP is pretty getable.
Love your channel. 1 -2 Punch to Josh! I love 1792 Full Proof, nursing the bottle I have in my Cabinet. I am drinking a pour of Rare Breed this evening while watching.
“I never know how to react when a grown man beatboxes in front of me.” Keeley Jones, from Ted Lasso
Ted Lasso is the absolute very best
Great guess on the 1792, Josh. And Erin, it’s ok to be cheap. Great video y’all!
I got an OFBP recently and was one of my favorite store pick bottles last year. These two can hit so hard or totally miss the mark. Thanks for video cheers
They definitely can vary pretty wildly. Luckily we've not had any stinkers of either, and some have been flat out fantastic.
Erin, I've never got a banana note either until I had a bottle of Jack Daniels bonded. Then I knew what people were talking about! Give it a try. Great channel, guys. Keep up the good work!
Thanks so much for watching and commenting Dan! Cheers!
Love 1792FP and we keep looking for the OFBS
Both very good but good luck finding the OF , 1792 is almost 1/2 the price too 😉👍 Cheers 🥃
On the road to professional whiskey taster from 0-100, we’re 3 now. Too funny 🤣🤣
Slowly but surely, we’re getting there. 😂
I was waiting for the classic "That's what she said"...
I'll be honest, just by reading the title I'm going with 1792. All of my O.F. experiences have been just meh but the 1792 full proof I have is really delicious. 1792 full proof is pretty allocated in my market but the OF can't be found. I was lucky to find a 1792 FP store pick a couple of months ago (bought two).
You guys ever have bacon candy? Bacon basted with bourbon and brown sugar every ten minutes while being baked until done (usually 40 to 50 minutes at around 400F depending on thickness). I'm making bacon chocolate chip cookies for sure!
Uh-oh, here we go...Rainbow Bright vs Voltron part two...And since you guys brought it up - your audience demands a Josh and Erin singing intro to the next live stream!
Josh calling the 1792. Well done, sir. I'm pretty sure I could have identified it as bourbon... maybe? 😂
Please tell me y'all have checked out VoicePlay's channel? Not just stunning acapella arrangements (with a theater-kid vibe), but also one of the best vocal percussionists in the world.
We haven't but we're on it. We love some acapella!
@@stuffandwhiskey I feel like I should be your tour guide. 😂 Their bass, Geoff, is one of the most spectacular basses on the planet. He has nearly a 5-octave range. I'm a serious fanboy.
@@Robert.Sheard point us toward the forth three videos we should watch and we’ll make it happen. 🥃
@@stuffandwhiskey Start with Oogie Boogie Song, from Nightmare Before Christmas. It's a few years old but it shows the bass's freakish range. Then look at My Mother Told Me, Hoist the Colours, and We Don't Talk About Bruno.
Ponderosa is type of pine tree. Worth noting - if you scratch the bark it smells like vanilla.
1792 is my favorite especially the store picks and I’m usually able to get it for$44 in our market the full proof.
Hard to beat that value!
Keep him in line Erin!
It's practically a full time job 😂
Great video as always! Did I miss the scores for each bottle or is this a new format for 2023? Cheers y’all!
Great catch, Keanan. To simplify, everything now is a base rating completely blind on whether we like it or not (two thumbs up all the way down to thumbs down), then we find out the price, see if that changes our rating, and then find out what we've been drinking. All the same info is delivered but we wanted to consolidate things beyond a scoring system to get right to the main point of how we felt about the whiskey in the glass--blind--based on taste alone and then on price.
WHISKEY CHEERS 😎
i wish you could've shown the warehouse for the OF
It's there in the b-roll if you can make it out, but it's a Warehouse H Floor 2 pick. It's not the best OFSBBS pick we have on hand, but it is very good and fairly on-profile, which is why we chose it for the head-to-head. Thanks for watching!
Y’all beepboxing soo funny!👍🏽
1792 is always on my shelf. Can you tell me about the abstract painting in the background? Sorry -not whiskey related. I'm an artist and I teach abstract painting.
That's so cool that you teach abstract painting Debby! We do have some abstract art throughout the house that's a bit more meaningful, but this particular piece just fit the space as far as the size, style, mood, and color palate we wanted. As with all art, it's totally subjective, and the two of us see two totally different things when we look at it, which in and of itself is half the fun. Cheers!
I have both of these and I think my 1792 FP is slightly better. They are both good, however. I can't believe Erin has never heard of Gunsmoke. It was the longest running series of its time lasting, I believe, 22 seasons. It started black and white but ended up in color.
Never owned a OFBS. I love all things OF, but I've been either too late to the shelf or it's been over priced (saw one for $130!). One day. Great review!
At that price it’s definitely pushing it well beyond comfort levels here. OFSBBS vs Woodford Batch Proof could be interesting given that OFSBBS often gets marked up to Woodford Batch Proof prices.
I stumbled across an OF SBBF a month ago that I have been afraid to open in case I ended up REALLY liking it and then not being able to get more 😅
I also have a "regular" (non-store pick) 1792 Full Proof bottle that I kinda like though it is a little hot, and it didn't occur to me to compare these two bottles.
I ALSO ALSO have a bottle of 1792 Full Proof that I added a charred oak spiral to for 3 weeks to see if I could tamp down the heat a bit, and it greatly "darkened" the flavor profile, so it may be worth comparing that one as well.
Somehow we missed this but love the idea of the charred oak spiral. We really need to do some experimenting with those. Thanks for the reminder Chris!
1792 is on my list.
I like the 1792 small batch, cannot find the full proof at Binny's, yet
It's definitely become harder and harder to find for us as well.
Two great pours…
Can you post the chocolate chip bacon cookie recipe? He took it off the web.
He did!? Rut roh. Hopefully it’s Google-able somewhere.
Listen to your wife Josh. Start farther away, then go in deeper if you need to! And… I totally expected a laugh the Erin to pop off her line, that’s what she said. Made me lol even without it, 😂!
😂😂
Need to retry 1792
Full proof. Not impressed few years ago. Erin past your bed time???😱😂
Great toe-to-toe! Love your channel!🥃👍🏻
Thanks so much Press Man! Cheers!
I promise it wasn't Montezuma's Revenge! 🙃
There's a whole different audience for those videos and we're happy to steer clear 😂
Josh likes to jump right into the deep end unsure whether he can swim, he’s like “eh I’ll figure it out”. Erin wades into the shallow end until she is comfortable with the depth based on her swimming abilities. Haha!! 😂
Mouthwatering is just the 4D experience. 😆
I definitely laughed out loud when Erin was like “But we are focusing on glass two…”
First time I got banana was on Old Forester 86 proof, over ripened bananas for sure.
Incredibly accurate assessment 😂
Bacon even makes chocolate chip cookies better. Wow. It's a miracle food.
Sent from the heavens above, no doubt.
Another great blind guys! That was some next level sh*t! And James Arness is rolling over in his grave, hopefully with Miss Kitty...
Lynard skynard song ramblin man
Was thinking of a weird conglomeration between the Allman Brothers version and the Waylon Jennings version, but a quick Google is showing quite a few songs with that in the title including an eerie Hank Williams Sr song from the early 50s. That was a fun find!
Brighterness is a stoner word, so yes its a word!
😂 😂
U more than 3!
Whiskey that can cing nose hairs, is whiskey worth drinking..
Amen!
I feel bad for anybody who grew up in a place where honey nut cheerios were "too much sugar"
Honestly i think ive seen more old forester barrel strengths in the last year than 1792 full proof of any kind.
Really? Super interesting. 1792FP isn’t plentiful here but OFSBBS is downright rare.
