Wild Turkey Rare Breed vs Russell's Reserve Single Barrel Bourbon Reviews! RE-MASHED!
Вставка
- Опубліковано 11 лют 2024
- This is my first episode of a series called -RE-MASHED where I look at bourbons I have reviewed already in the past and see if my thoughts are still the same in 2024. Today we do a comparison I did back in 2018. Rare Breed and Russel's Reserve Single Barrel.

Russells Single Barrel to me never disappoint 😄🥃
as someone who never liked Wild Turkey 101, I absolutely LOVE Rare Breed. Go figure
I dont like black men, but i love black women - Mickey Donavan
Same
I can get both in Wisconsin for $50.00 . I like them both , but tend to buy the Russell's more often.
I’m the opposite. Love 101.
I agree. Love Rare breed. ✌🏼🇺🇸
Never had Russell's single barrel. Would love to try one as a big wild turkey fan. Love Rare Breed. We get it for $46 in my area
Love it. Great series. I'm such a mark I would watch Rare Breed vs. OF1920 blinds every week.
Love the concept of re-visiting earlier reviews/thoughts. Great start with 2 of the titans in bourbon. Well done! Cheers!
Thank you for adding the previous review. I like the Russell's, Rare Breed hit's me hot and not as complex. Like all single barrels they will be a little polarizing. Both great shefers though. Great revisit.
I think re-reviewing is a great idea once enough time has passed. I’m trying to revisit bourbons that I’ve had in the past to see if my memories are still the same or not. Looking forward to more of this Re-Mashed series 👍
Definitely two my of always on the shelf go to bourbons. Lately the single barrel has taken over Rare Breed as my favorite of the 2.
Excellent idea to re-mash some classics. Looking forward to future videos!
Love the new Series! and nice job getting the podcasts going.
Found 3 WT Rare Breed CN in MA purchased all three. Love both. Great value for the money
Love the re-mashed idea. I mostly am looking at the available bottles. Interesting to see where some of these stand now vs. the first time you reviewed.
Love the “re-mashed” version, plz continue this…. Also enjoy seeing the older videos, awesome concept, well done 👍
Nice idea for a series, calling it RE-MASHED is masterclass UA-cam, chapeau Jason👏 Road to 100k, you deserve it🤘
Love the re-mash idea for some more available bottle content. That KY Spirit bottle in the 2018 vid needs to come back. Turkey has so many options, all excellent, yet nuanced. Personal vote for KY Spirit. A bit softer at a lower proof, yet you get the Rick house variants
Two of my resident shelfers. Love the concept and great video, Jason.
Great new series. Would love to see a 4 Roses Small Batch Select revisit.
Thanks for the rematch JC! I agree these are both among the best “pound for pound” readily available options! Always have both on the shelf.
Great show as always, and I couldn't agree more! In your 2018 video I noticed an old fan style bottle of Kentucky Spirit. Years ago, Rare Breed was offered at 108 proof while Kentucky Spirit was offered at 104 proof. If by any chance that you would ever be able to find a dusty of these offerings, it'd be great to see how they compare to today's offerings of all three of these products! I don't think that many people have any idea of what Kentucky Spirit used to be! I just hope that Russell's Reserve Single Barrel doesn't follow the same fate as Kentucky Spirit. Again, great show as always! Cheers!
Love the idea for this series. Keep them coming.
Great episode
Love seeing the background of Jason's old video with hardly any bottles in the background, before he spiraled into whiskey addiction 😂
Looking forward to more of this series, especially since a good amount of these shelfers have slightly changed not just their label design but the juice in general in some way.
RR SB always seems to have a decadence and creaminess that I just really love but no shade on Rare Breed and that spice punch! If I had to choose, it’d be the RR by a hair. Good stuff! 🙌🏻🥃
I agree with all your comments but I have never been a fan of Rare Breed while I absolutely love the RR single barrel. I would/will always reach for the single barrel over the rare breed. Thanks for all your information!
2 great bottles! I lean more towards the single barrel. Fortunately these are @ $50 each in my area. I think these Wild Turkey bottles just destroy any allocated bourbon from Buffalo Trace in a similar price range that people are always hunting for…Eagle Rare, Blanton’s, EH Taylor etc…
Couldn't agree more
As you mentioned in your video these bottles are easier to find. Tonight I picked up a barrel proof bottle of Rare Breed and having a neck pour watched your comparison with Russell’s. I think your opinion was dead on, and I still enjoyed my tasting of RBSB, for the price it is still an amazing higher proof bourbon that does not disappoint. Again great video, keep up the great work and cheers!
Kentucky Spirit for the win! Especially the Camp Nelson bottles.
Wow! You've come a loooong way since 2018!
The store picks of Russell's Reserve from camp nelson are 🔥🔥🔥
Nice content! Both really nice pours but I really enjoy the Russell’s quite a bit more!
Enjoyed, that. I'm a turkey guy, and a big fan of both of these bottles. Completely agree, you can't go wrong with either!
Nice video! I always have both, but like the Rare Breed better.
Always appreciate your thoughts Jason. Your pallet is similar to mine. Totally agree with your opinion on these two. If I could only have one bourbon for the rest of my life it would be the Rare Breed.
I definitely enjoyed the video. I appreciate when you compare a couple of bourbons as you did here. I would like to see a review of the Peerless Double Oaked, it's a bourbon I've been thinking about getting.
Great concept of re-mashed! I love RR single barrels especially the store picks that are age dated!
Not sleeping on any bottles I can get by just walking into my local store and getting the bottle I want. I don't hunt or camp for anything if I can't get it when I walk in I'm not interested in it. And these plus several others are always available and fit my palate.
Love the revisit type video
I was like “who’s that teenage boy in those video clips from 2018?” Lol. Anyway, you turned me on to Wild Turkey products a few years ago and they’ve all been my favorites ever since. I always recommend RR Single Barrel to anyone that wants to try new bourbons. Cheers!!
Definitley 2 of the best values! Love some Russell's picks!
I like the idea of this series and this is a great pair to kick it of with. I always have a couple of each of these on the shelf. Rare Breed is just amazingly good, consistent and affordable, paid $49 for my last one. I do wish they sold the NCF bottling domestically. RR SiB naturally vary more and the good store picks command a few more bucks, I've paid up to $71. I've even been able to get some of the more allocated bottles recently with an RR13 and a Camp Nelson F landing on my shelf recently. Don't know if they are increasing availability or I just got lucky but I'm not complaining!
Re-Mashed, great idea...very clever!! love WT both RB and RRSB but ALWAYS have the RRSB on hand, have yet to be disappointed. And although not mentioned, the Kentucky Spirit I've picked up lately has been delicious too!!! looking forward to the next episode.
This is great content. Comparing Stagg is fine… but good stuff on the shelf is more relatable.
RRSB is my top, go-to, "readily available" daily sipper every time. I always have at least two back up bottles in my cabinet, they're not easy to find here in southeast Texas. One of those last great bottles for under $100.
I finally picked up a bottle of Rare Breed after watching quite a few reviews. I picked up a bottle of Larceny at the same time. The Rare Breed is a little on the sweet side for my tastes, and the Larceny is just kind of Mehh. I mixed a little of each in a glass, and they mix very well together.
I think the non chill filter vs the Rare Breed plays a key part in why it’s richer and sweeter, I don’t know why they still chill filter the rare breed.
Cheers Jason! REALLY enjoying my Russell's Reserve Single Barrel 🥃 🦃 🥃
I bought a bottle of Russell's Reserve Single Barrel at my local Indy Sam's Club......$54.99 and I consider this a steal. The baking spice undertones is what I find most attractive in this sample. Rare Breed is still another of my favorites and certainly more readily available than the RR. It's price of $51.99 puts it in the ballpark of my most desirable pair.
Jason, you were right. Russell’s Single Barrels this year are far superior than years past in my opinion. Had an unopened bottle from around 2021 and bought a new bottle just to compare. Night and day difference!
Appreciate you reviewing more common bottles! I have a feeling prices are gonna reach for their peaks this year
I keep both in my inventory as well as Kentucky Spirit. Have to say though that a good RR single barrel can't be beat for the value.
I do like that you are reviewing more available bottles with this new segment. Your videos over the past few months seemed focused on bottles that were out of reach for me here in my area (South Florida)
My two favorites!
Ii just ventured into Turkey territory recently with my first bottle of Rare Breed. It's good but didn't blow me away. Maybe after it opens up a bit that may change. Russel's Reserve Single Barrel is on my list to try.
I really like both of these bottles. I do think RRSB is a bit more approachable with to the lower proof. One of them is always on my shelf. Can't go wrong.
I need one of those hats! 👍
Although I love RB, I've found myself reaching for RB Rye much more often now. Also I'll take the RR Single barrels over either of them any day of the week. Great video man.
Great review. I’m a WT fan. Would like to see what you take is in the new Barrel Bourbon Foundation
Both are great bourbons. Always on shelf here in VA.
Ha, I remember agreeing with the first one from 18. These available Wild Turkeys are some of my favorite bourbons, benchmarks for quality.
Love them both but at $50 easy Rare Breed vs $67 for RRSB
RRSB IS $83 in my area vs $50 for Rare Breed.
Two fantastic bottles & my personal favourites. I totally agree the Russell`s is the better experience but here in the UK Russell`s is hard to find & almost twice the price, thats why on my shelf sits Rare Breed for me `the best bourbon in the real world` because of availability, price & it`s super quality. Your enthusiasm for these two products & WT 101 is what got be into bourbon & for that I am truly grateful.
RR SB is my top pick in this double bass! Price be damned.... But my favorite bottle right now is Old Ezra 7yr Rye. A wonderful high proof whiskey
The Old Ezra 7 Year rye is a favorite of mine as well. I bought my first bottle on a whim and by the time l got 1/4 down the bottle, l went back and bought the 3 others my local bottle shop had on the shelf and now l'm looking for more.
@@nicksinderson3302 I get it in Jersey for 80ish
it might be interesting to see you do a comparison between Kentucky Spirit and RR SB......
Thanks been concidering Rare Breed for the price point
I have a store pick RR and the travel RB NCF at home. Going to have to do a comparative as well.
Got retry RRSB always liked Rare Breed and it is always in my house.
I concur!
W.T. 101 is clearly the OG bourbon!!! Absolutely delicious and what built that company! But the RR line is absolutely fantastic!!
Ohh Shnap, look at that 2018 Jason 😂😂 Cheers 🥃🥃
WHISKEY CHEERS 😎
Picked both of these up this weekend! Rare Breed is a bit more pricey here in Cali at 60, and Russells at 70.
I love both of those bottles. Sam's Club has Rare Breed at $45.
Ive never seen russels single barrel in northestern ohio i cant wait to try it!
Two bottles always on my bar!
Re-do 1920…. I didn’t think my most recent bottle was up to par
Ill have to give Russell's another look, but Rare Breed is an absolute delight with a rock. 1st time my buddy and I tried it, we killed the bottle that same night!
I’d love to see you revisit the JDSBBP.
I'm in the Russell's Reserve camp too, even for the higher price. And I pay the extra cost for the store pick Russell's.
RRSB is very good and the store picks are even better. WTRB is hard to beat. Love both.
Good goal.
In my area of California both are $60-65. I haven't tried either but I'm leaning to try Russell's first since I've been digging single barrels.
I was lucky enough to have the master, Jimmy Russell sign two bottles of single barrel. He drives a crappy old toyota Sienna btw. Awesome dude!
Found Russell's Reserve SB for the first time today.
It would be interesting to see how the ryes of both these would match up
as you know, when the wt101 bottle changed, the juice inside changed. do you know if that happened with rare breed and or rrsingle barrel?
Rate breed yes. I don't think it's ever been so cinnamon heavy
Had the opposite experience with the same blind not too long ago. More depth and richness on the Rare Breed. Muted from Russell’s single barrel.
Personally of the 2 I will pick Russell's Reserve Single Barrel every day of the week. To me the only thing it loses out on is price. Maybe ive been lucky but I havent had a bad Russell's Single barrel. I have had some OK ones but no bad ones, but thats the risk you take with Single Barrels.
I can get both for $50.00 in Wisconsin. I like them both but, tend to buy Russell's more often.
Comparing both whiskeys now. Both great but I would lean toward the Russel’s
RRSiB FTW! 🔥🙌
Kind of a bummer but the Russell's single barrel is kind of hard to find in Minnesota. The store picks drop a couple times a year but I never see the standard single barrels in shelves here.
When I think of bourbon I think of Russell’s Reserve SiB Private Selection!
Old overholt 114 vs Old grand dad 114. 2 Jim beam products you won't be disappointed
I love and keep both of these on hand . Rare Breed tends to hit me better. I'll always keep them and Four Roses Single Barrel in my house. Thank you for the great content
🥃❤️🥃
Who was that guy in the flashback?🤠🥃
One bottle people are sleeping on is right behind you! Jack bonded
Appreciate the review of available bottles. When I see reviews of highly allocated or items not sold in the state of Ohio I move on. No sense to watch reviews I have zero chance of ever seeing.
Wild Turkey should do a US available 12 year actual age stated Rare Breed. Would be a hit. They need to bring 12 year WT101 to the states too!
Rare Breed is the GOAT, I just wish the price wouldn't keep going up. This bottle has gone up $2 each of the last 2 times I bought it.... $48 then $50 now $52.
You should do dickel bib vs dickel 15year both affordable and widely available.
