    Thinking about running the mission tire upfront and the adventure in the back. I have an AT with missions and it does get slippery on grass with the rear mission tire.

    • @bfeadventures
      @bfeadventures  2 роки тому

      After washing out the front end on damp grass with the mission front, I think you will be sacrificing too much. In my opinion always go with more grip on the front tire. They typically last longer anyway. The rear can slide and you will be okay. If the front slides, there will be a far different outcome.

      @@bfeadventures so I do about 8-10k miles a year mostly commuting to and from work. Trying to find a good balance between high mileage and being able to push a little on dirt roads and some back woods trails. Ima halfway decent rider grew up on dirt bike so I'm not too worried ab a little slip off road. Would you think the adventure tire would be the better all around tire?

    • @bfeadventures

      @@Stixbctwins I had them on my GS and they were GREAT tires. They are loud though. You can also expect to go through 2 sets a year at that mileage. That’s part of having a motorcycle and wanting grip though lol

      @@bfeadventures thanks for the info. I've been debating about going with the adventure for awhile and I think I have some time before I buy them. Just hit 5k on the missions and they still look great, but once they wear out I will be purchasing a set of the adventure tires.

      Mission front + Adventure back would be a great combo! I have had great success with a similar combo (GPS front + Adventure back)

    Is the on road traction/behavior of the Rallz compared to the Motoz desert ht an obvious improvement? Bought a used 701 with ht front and rear. Live in the hills/sierras and want to enjoy the twisties more without sacrificing too much off road.

    • @bfeadventures
      @bfeadventures  Рік тому +1

      Unless you are dragging me, I don’t think you will notice a substantial amount of difference. However, I will say that the RallZ wears better than the desert HT. Pogo had no problem keeping up with his HT on his 1190 compared to Alex on the Africa twin with the RallZ. I think you will feel a little “knob squish” at the limits with the HT. I would actually offer the alternative opinion - you would not sacrifice much off-road traction by going with the RallZ, but you will get a better wearing tire with slightly better road characteristics.

    Spot on about the Dunlop Trailmax Mission. Where I live and ride it is rocky and dry and they are awesome. In the spring, when there is the occasional mud bog, they suck. On my fourth set. Cheers

      Is the rear trailmax slick on wet pavement? About how many miles are you getting out of the rear?

    • @FanOWater
      @FanOWater Рік тому

      @@IAmYourReflection They are ok in the wet, but avoid painted surfaces in heavy rain, they will slide and the rear will spin! I once got 8k out of the rear, but the knobs were long gone. You get a smooth center strip at about 4k miles or so. It will depend on your throttle use and the bikes horsepower of course. Cheers

    I’ve been running the shinko 804 too. Does great on the pavement without much compromise off-road and seems to wear pretty well. AND is one of the least expensive 👍
    Like you said, the 805 will slide out very easily, and I didn’t like the way it wore. Seemed to loose alot of its traction at around 50 tread life. But I did drive it about 20 miles home on a flat once.
    Still looking for a rear that can handle aggressive riding in the twisties and get decent mileage too

    "A stack of 50% tires that I'm never going to use" - yup thats my garage. I'd like to hear more about the tractionator adventure tire tho. I freaking love the RallZ off road. And I wish all i did was off road, but unfortunately it isn't. I do a lot of road (And I kind of do it fast), So I am curios about the Tractionator Adventure. How does it handle wet asphalt?

    • @bfeadventures
      @bfeadventures  Рік тому +1

      It does pretty good on wet asphalt. The front on wet (anything off-road) eh - not so much. I tucked the front twice on that tire (once in wet grass, and once on frosted ground) riding the same way I had on my GS on the same trail w/ other tires.

    Like you, I respect the hell out of Chris Birch. I haven't heard him say it - so I can't confirm if you correctly quoted him in context or not, you said you subscribe to his philosophy of preferring the front tire be stickier in dirt than the rear if given the choice. I understand that philosophy, but after trying both ways in many conditions, I disagree with you - at least for adventure bikes. I have tried both combinations of front stickier than rear in dirt vs rear stickier than front in dirt, and rear stickier than front in dirt works better for me - on an adventure bike. I don't think many realize how much one steers with the rear in dirt, whether starting or stopping, changing direction via roosting, sliding into corners, blasting out of corners, or control in sand. At higher speed, the front tire mostly just skips along in the direction you point it - making being sticky in dirt less important. The only time a more aggressive knobby in front makes a bigger difference is in grass, mud and snow - the latter two of which I also ride in fairly often in the winter. But the improvement in street performance, quietness, lack of funky wear, and improved mileage that a less sticky in dirt tire gives me more than makes up for it's lack of mud and snow performance! I wonder why you find yourself in grass so much on an Adventure bike? If I mainly rode in an area where grass, mud and snow were my primary riding media, then I would just ride my Beta with 20/80 rear and 30/70 front. If I had to ride an adventure bike in in grass, mud and snow regularly, then I would run the front and rear equally dirt sticky. BUT for everything else on an Adventure bike- TWISTIES, freeway, forgotten highway, rain on tarmac, mountain fire roads, creek crossings, baby heads, gravel, desert, and dry dirt, rear stickier than front is way more fun for me.

    I was losing traction with the Trailmax Mission rear on cold wet pavement, below 40°f, on a V-strom650. Not the winter tire for me in the Pacific Northwest. Same experience now with a Motoz GPS on my SuperTenere. Sucks on cold wet pavement. Back to the Michelin Anakee Adventure.

    On my AT I also use the Motoz,Rallyz rear with a Knob front such as Battlx or TKC 80 up front. I have a GSA with a brand new Trailmax rear. I want a bit more knobby up front, what would you put on the front with it?

    • @bfeadventures
      @bfeadventures  2 роки тому

      Honestly, you can’t go wrong with a TKC 80 up front. I’d also consider the Shinko 705 or something more aggressive like a Motoz Adventure.

    • @bfeadventures
      @bfeadventures  2 роки тому

      Also, w/ the Rallz rear, I’d put an even more aggressive front on it the the TKC80. I think the Rallz is aggressive enough to push the TKC 80 too far. I’d pair w/ something like the Rallz front, Desert HT, or even a D606

    The on road vs off road convention that everyone uses is STREET% / DIRT% - you guys have it backwards! As reviewers you should know this. Imagine if one of your viewers walked into a motorcycle shop and asked for an 80/20 tire, expecting to be shown 80% DIRT tires like you have incorrectly taught them. Imagine their surprise when the salesman correctly showed them 80% STREET tires! Also, if you're going to do a review, you should at least visit the tire manufacturer website. You called the Desert HT "90/10". Motoz doesn't give it a road/off-road designation, but describes it as an off road tire that can go on the street. RE 4:21 - you had to guess what the Adventure tire was - calling it a "60/40, kind of 70/30." Motoz advertises it as 25/75. It would have been nice if you guys would have known that so you could comment on it. You just guessed that the Shinko was a 50/50. Shinko advertises their 805 as 40/60 - so you think it is less dirt worthy than Shinko does. You called the E-07 a "60/40" - more off-road bias by your definition. Mitas advertises it as 50/50. So you think the Mitas is more dirt worthy than Mitas does. About the Trailmax Mission, at 8:55 you said, "they claim it's a 50/50 tire." Who is "they"? Because Dunlop doesn't advertise a road / off road claim ...

    • @bfeadventures

      Thanks for the insight! We do not claim to be tire manufacturers. Our discussion was focused around our experiences. If the context of our conversation threw you off, we apologize!

      @@bfeadventures - No one claimed you were a tire manufacturer. And you don't have to worry about me, as I have studied and tested many tires myself, so I wasn't 'thrown off'. BUT in the convention of rating tires in terms of street vs dirt percent, you should have known that STREET% comes first, and DIRT% comes last, instead of presenting it backwards like you did. There are plenty of people that will be 'thrown off' by your backwards presentation of percentages. Just the other day, a friend of mine who doesn't know much about 'adventure' tires asked me what a "60/40" tire was. If he had watched your video, he would have incorrectly concluded that a 60/40 tire was 60% DIRT / 40% STREET! Can you see the problem here? And while I could appreciate your discussion focused around your experiences with various tires, I think it was incomplete journalism to report percentages that you just made up because you were too lazy to bother looking up the manufacturer advertised percentages ...
