- Rivera Amplfication flies out to Iowa while Mick Thomson was recording his KR7 on the new "All hope is Gone" Slipknot record. Mick gives his reasons why he uses his amp and cab and how he found the tonewww.rivera.com/products/knuckl...
That Gematria riff is insane.
dude is he playing death metal riffs? i swear if no one knew he was in slipknot they would assume he was in a deathmetal band
yeah he is! he can plays a lot of styles
+daniel lopez hes playing riffs that are in a slipknot song
Slipknot had some of the best riffs/guitarist
He does love extreme metal so yeah he would add in those kind of riffs
theyre slipknot riffs dude lol
Very insightful guitarist, especially on technical things like the effect of volume and the value of recording with as many frequencies as possible and cutting them later.
I agree. I enjoyed the insight. Very valuable info :)
i'd love to spend a day playing with his amp setup and guitar. that tone is awesome
So, 7 pays his Signature 7 amp with most settings on 7?
How fitting.
with a 6 strings guitar
@@detts5082 Bruh moment
@@detts5082 Sometimes in fucking drop A. I dont think he has any Barietone.
@@easyp6130 25.5 scale length, thats what most drop a 7 strings are, its all intonation as long as you get it setup right itll sound fine.
I swear mick looks like he is related to dimebags and vinnie paul
Yeah man im thinkin the same
Apart from his Rivera amp being really good, his Ibanez guitars are AWESOME - I played that very same model in Australia - the MTM is a monster and a real joy to play.
RolanTHUNDER His Jackson is that much better, I owned one for a little while but pawned it like an idiot. Butter smooth neck, crushing tone, all around a great shredder.
Mick is definitely more knowledgeable when it comes to the technical side of guitars and amps.
Listening to mick explain his sound theories alone could make you a man!!!!
As a huge Metallica fan I'm used to Hetfields amazing riffage, but I gotta say I was blown away by the riffs he played in this video. Maybe I need to listen to some more Slipknot... any suggestions?
All of their songs, no need to limit yourself.
Kevin McDonald the songs that he is recording are from the all hope is gone album
Any Slipknot song ever!
Gematria
Gematria x2
He knows his shit and how to get the tone he wants.
He's got a MONSTER picking hand.
Mick Thomson should get his own signature shampoo and conditioner...😃
Melodic DarkLord093 id buy it
Hahahahajajajajajaja...
Melodic DarkLord093 automatic must buy XD
It will be called “Dirtbag Stank”
I use Johnson's Baby
He has such an amazing style, quick as hell clean and ass kicking! just amazing!!
LOOKING GOOD AS ALWAYS!!!! LOVE YOU MICK!!!!
Badass footage thanks !
seriously one of the best gear talks i've seen. awesome vid.
Very precise playing
wow!!!!!!!i love this sound!!!great Mick!!!!excellent amp Rivera!!
damned... his voice is amazing
Interesting i notice he moves up and down the neck even though he is just hitting open notes in this song. That actually combined with his Alt picking is Awesome. thats the one thing that amazes me with Mick Thompson not only his riffs but his sound and tone and the way he Alt picks the guy is like a speeding bullet damn!
mick has a monster riffing hand!!!
Hahaha he normally uses it at "7" I get it xD
Ironic how you got seven likes
@@shaunwarren7400 and how it’s 7 years ago
@@shaunwarren7400 that's.. The opposite of ironic
Mick is such a sick guitarist
micks easily my favorate guitarest, personally i think all hope is gone is their micks best album, but i think iowa is their best album.
my favorite guitarist !!! hell yeah
man i wish i could play as good as mick
would have been cool to see slipknot stay in the death metal direction after iowa. mick totally holds back on so much of their material
He's a huge monster !!
@renatalorbiesky i know, but it has the fretboard and the pickups from an mtm1 and the color is the same as a mtm2
@dragonoidslayer17 It's because their unmasked look is unusual (definitely for Mick, cuz other members like Corey, Jim, Sid, Joey, Shawn you can see very often unmasked)
Fun fact, for anyone watching this now that studio is now an airbnb and you can rent it
Keep practicing.
I thought that too when I first started out.
Now I'm really fast.
i could imagine you now
@brux559 His own signature guitar, his model on Ibanez is called MTM1 and now there's another model called MTM2, all his signature actually...
THANK YOU. Finally someone who truly is a good metalhead!
@theworldandroid Vendetta, Its on All Hope Is Gone
because he used both for the record. In a recording situation, most guitar players use more than one amp.
a real pro thanks for sharing all this stuff \m/
Mr. Seven is just so fucking badass.
he is damn good
yeaaahhh excelent rifff !!!!
its his white version of the Ibanez Mtm1 but they only sell the black and blood red one
How's your live settings vs studio? "Oh wildly different...". This is the type of shit I wish I had access to when I was starting
0:26 - gotta love the big, tight low end :P
true i do have the cd, but i almost forgot about it sometimes. It still wasn't that crazy, but definitely more intense.
well said \m/
@SuperMetallicaGuy thanks bud
@CrowbarSC2 U took that long to notice? =P
1. Cables will effect your sound to a small degree, use high quality THICK cables.
2. Electricity will effect your sound, use a power conditioner to clean and protect your gear.
3. Pickups will effect your sound, use high quality passive/active pickups.
4. Wood type will effect your sound, look it up.
5. String guage, and string metal will effect your sound.
6. Standing up and playing guitar gives you more harmonics, as any physics teacher.
7. Sound and soul is mostly is the hands.
@brux559 of course :)
@Teqnick He has a death metal project planned? plz tell me about it.
I currently have a Behringer tube amp, and a Line6 floor pod. I also got this graphic EQ pedal. He's exactly right - once it gets loud, my behringer, which isn't capable of Slipknot, will lose a lot of sustain. The gain almost disappears; its hard to explain. But I'm about to buy a Line6 Spider 4 and sell my pedal board.
@SuperXXDOOMXx usually. but about half of the iowa album is in drop A and a couple songs on all hope is gone are drop A as well (i know psychosocial is. not sure about others, i hate that album hahaha)
I had no idea that Mick and Jim know so much about tone.
@moneymoney220666
Thats his number in the band. Thats why he has Seven on his fretboard and it tatted on his left forearm:P
i neeeed more watttts damnit
@fortyfiveden All Hope Is Gone es la cancion.
haven't you one seen the roadrunner all star concert??????
they played so many songs and the only one the guitars were off beat was surfacing that is a very difficult song to play!!
Depends on what you mean by "like him".
Someone know what size on the strings he use? And what like "mark" he use on hes stings? I finded before on a Interview but can't find it now.
at 4:03 what song is that riff from? BAD ASS.
I Want MTM1!
thats what i thought.. its not one of their best songs but i have that album and it sounded familiar
I thought the same when i started out... then you get used to it... then some one tells you about scales... then you practice even more... and then they mention sweeping arrpegio;s then you practice lots too :)
Picking speed shouldn't be that hard, just make it tight and start off steady never rush otherwise you get really sloppy :)
Mick Thomson the best guitar player
music is subjective....what someone considers horrible might be someone else's favorite song or band
But kpop is objectively horrible
@cafedekashmir1 Slipknot - Vendetta
what song is that in the beginning?
Fuck Yeah Mick!
@Cataclysm30197 I know, but...damn...
----Seymour Duncan Signatur "seven" ----the Blackout´s AHB 3
Well his latest MTM's feature Blackouts..if that makes you fell any better
@HitaroX Nah, mainstream just means their popular. Them being generic is just your opinion.
I never thought Slipknot had a really amazing tone, but Rivera is really cool
@fortyfiveden Its Gematria (The Killing Name)
What about Blackouts? He also uses blackouts, right?
@ryratseph Hahahaha sorry but no, I'm not so easy to impress as all of you where one note melts my face off. It takes many many notes composed in a very ingenious way to get me to even turn my head towards it.
aha.... you should open your eyes at derek roddy vidz...
the sonor pedals are for short accents, he plays a double bass pedal from AXIS.
My God.
god.
@moneymoney220666 think what number is he in the band?
1:20 lick is very similar to Gojira's From the Sky.
What is the exact name of his guitar in 0:10???
PLS ANswer.
God BLess!!!
I agree that there is nothing more frustrating than having a bass player's rig in the same frequencies as you and drowning you out.
3:56 sounds like hatredcopter from dethalbum .
does anyone know where his guitar is made in????
@FFJabarr Gematria, figured it out.
I still wonder why he had a Knucklehead Tre sitting on top of his KR7 head.
@MegaSlayTalliThrax Yeah, but Mick is much taller :P
medaows in hartford 2001...ozzfest...slipknot blew all the speakers in the middle of eyeless
Does he use Pert Plus?
whats the song hes playing in the begining?
heres like a new age kerry king. raiders jersey sun glasses
Except this guy can play like a monster and write good songs instead of just coasting off the other guitarists talent lol
Maby
@@Slamthulhu yeah
@ianjohnson171 No prob. :)
mick is GOD
by repeating chords in all of his songs?
i already know that
An Ibanez MTM 1 I think
Im one that learns from all genres
listen to the dagger by roadrunner united and you'll know a fraction of what paul is capable of
