Dude, this was absolutely awesome. You provided enough detail without making this video super long and boring. And all of the examples were perfect. Even the detail as far as using brake cleaner to start all over was VERY HELPFUL! Thank you!

when using rattle cans its best to hit the object with long continuous sprays rather than a bunch of little short sprays. When doing little quick sprays it tends to bead up the paint on the nozzle and you will get spatter more often than if you just hit a long continuous spray that you use to cover a larger area. Even using one long continuous spray to hit the entire object as a coat is better than small sprays that could lead to spatter. Just a tip u may wanna try brother

I used to use this stuff back in the day ... I was into lowriding and back then some of us couldn’t get our rims anodized or buy them anodized ... so I’d tape up the spikes and hit the outter lip and it would come out nice ... or I’d tape up the barrel and paint the spokes ... you can use it for a lot of cool stuff 👍🏻

I love it for color matching taillights and other lamps in the car.
I did a set of side markers in green to match my car, and with amber bulbs they still shine amber light.

For the chrome or polish things etc. Does the spray paint have to be metallic for it to have that shine reflect back?

As a VW guy, I'm a big fan of metalcast.
Hella colored taillights are 300$ or more ,and I wanted a green set to match my green car.
Voila ,green metalcast and 2 coats of clear and they look like a million bucks.
On another VW ,I changed the amber part of the lens to red so it is only 2 colors (white and red) for a more uniform look.
Usually 2 coats does it ,and a couple coats of clear to match.

Cool, a James D video! I was worried that with your move to Texas you'd be slowed down on production. Thanks for this video, I've viewed the paint at Pep Boys and wondered how it looked. Nice results here. And love the idea of the chalkboard paint! God bless you and your family, my friend.

I love it! Finally someone who knows how to use this. Seen so many videos of people spraying this over whatever color the thing was before expecting a pretty candy color, being disappointed, and calling it a ripoff. I've used the blue and the orange metalcast.

    • @JamesDguy

Cory Brown Has to be silver or the aluminum. I’m sure other colors might work but it might not come out as good. But primer then silver yes that would work.

Duplicolor does sell a "primer" with the metalcast lineup, its called the Ground Coat, but this rustoleum silver is pretty close to what that can does too

    • @JamesDguy
      @JamesDguy  5 років тому

4drek I never looked at it like that. But it makes sense. At the end I did say that they make a silver made to go under the color coat though lol. But yea it’s basically a silver flake paint.

      I know.its a year old...
But if you follow the directions...most importantly is applying this over chrome or other shiny surfaces, then it works as advertised..
Anything else and you get the results shown here..

Isn't the Rustoleum an enamel paint? Are there any issues painting the metalcast over it since I think the metalcast is a lacquer? I'm thinking about using the metalcast stuff for model kits. It seems to have a relatively fine spray, so I think it'd work good on really small parts.
