    Mike thank you very much for this video. You answered all of my questions from what base coat to use to would a Testors clear work on top. This is exactly what I was thinking of doing with my Johan 70 442. I want to replicate one of my all-time favorite Hot Wheels. Right down to the white stripes with blue stars. Since the Testors worked on the Dupli Color I think that is what I will use for the stripe paint too. Then blue star stickers and then Testors clear. I would love to have that hot wheel in my collection but considering the astronomical price of that particular model I decided to just make a 1:25th version! I hope your Nomad came out well and happy building.

    My experience with the duplicolor adonizing paint for materials that are all ready chrome or polished is i use first duplicolor adhesion promoter and then i use the adonizing paint..i have found that if you wait 48hours you can polish the adonizing paint with any regular paint wax polish and it will bring out the affect of adonization better..after if you want you can clean it with regular dishwashing soap and clear coat it..looks spectacular..

    I couldn't get the dupli-color here in the UK, but I managed to get the VHT version, I used it on one of my Sizzlers, and like you say it doesn't look particularly metallic or Spectraflame, but it did look really nice, pretty similar to what you got with the dupli-color, I have only used the purple so far, but I have a blue and a red, BTW I put down a base coat of VHT chrome, which again looks very much like the dupli-color, hardly what you'd call chrome, but very shiny non the less, about the best out of all the 'chrome' sprays I have found, only wish there was a cheap way too chrome plastic at home.

      It's what gives it that reflective property. But read through the comments. You'll see that people also use the suggested Dupli-color silver base or other even more sparkly bases. It only really works with a transparent type of paint like this. You wouldn't be able to see it through a solid color. But be careful, if you mix brand names you might get a paint reaction like cracking or wrinkling.

    You would get the annodized look if you used the Dupli-Color Ground Coat Anodized Coating instead of the universal chrome paint that you used. I tried it and it came out just the way I expected. If you really read the instructions on the red metalcast annodized you would see that they mentioned using the ground coat first, I got excellent results. Test It on the same coke bottle and compare it to the test you did here.....

    • @Toppervision1
      @Toppervision1  4 роки тому

      Not to spray which on chrome? The anodized paint or the clear? I cannot imagine this clear reacting to anything. Maybe the anodized paint. I don't know, haven't tried it. Anyway, I think it's just one coat of clear.

      @@Toppervision1 The Testers clear gloss in the directions specify not to spray chrome coatings. I have seen videos of people putting the testers clear coat on chrome coats and it ruins the chrome paint by making it runny and in some cases dulls the chrome. But I have also seen people use very light coats and getting away with it. Thanks for the input!

    Should have had two bottles. Painted one with both colors. And painted the second with just the red color. To see if the chrome was even necessary to get that same color.
    With the second color not having a transparency enhancer, or even reduced, I have my doubts you're seeing the chrome at all.

    • @Toppervision1

      Oh yes, you're seeing the chrome. This is why they make an official silver undercoat to be used with these types of paints. But sure, I should have shown one plain just to see the difference.
