Dudes out here breaking the first two rules of Fight Club.
Haaaaaaa, NICE!!!!!!
That’s the point of the fight club - to break the rules.
Instablaster.
Facts.. 😂😂😂
Trainspotting is a classic movie and the tune born slippy
The Trainspotting album is one of my absolute favorites.
What it has nothing to do with that movie lol
Born Slippy is great
Fun fact Kurt Cobain was a huge fan of the Pixies
Not only The Pixies, but also Mud Honey and The Doors 😁
Kurt cobain admitted that when he wrote smells like teen spirit, he was trying to write a pixies song.
Also a beatles but more a john lennon fan
@@calebmcdermott6420 He also got the idea for the song from a girl that had scrolled his bedroom wall in lipstick saying, "Kurt Cobain smells like teen spirit" .. as in the teen female deodorant.
Hahah.. amazing what becomes of things.
David Bowie and Radiohead are big Pixies fans too...
The Pixies influenced Nirvana so much. Just by doing that alone, they were one of the most important bands of all time. But they released so many great songs, hope to see you guys react to more of them!
Yeah. The Pixies influened Nirvana, Radioheads and Weezer alot. Especially the Base Line Style with the Odd Chords on the Guitars
@@warralvan1552 yes an R.E.M and Bowie loved them and covered 'cactus' both live and on an album
and...wikipedia. great job!!!
We were spoiled in the 90's. I only started to realize that in the last 10 years.
I was a kid when the Pixies broke up, and I went to LA to see one of Frank Black's first shows as a solo artist. We were outside the club when he was closing out his first show, and we heard the whole crowd singing the 'ooh ooh' part.
I think the Pixies get their recognition now, but it took a LONG time for them to get the props they earned.
DO some Violent Femmes..they were my fav back in the 80s. We called it college rock, because they always played at colleges or in college towns and all the college radio stations played them. Well..Ole Miss did anyway..lol
You forgot to mention that Kurt Cobain even admitted that they tried to rip off the Pixies when he wrote Smells Like Teen Spirit.
Smells like Teen Spirit was Cobain's attempt at writing a Pixies song
True, and an interesting tidbit, the riff is sampled from the song more than a feeling by boston
@@Ax9005 It's like Come as You Are is a riff on Killing Joke's Eighties.
@@zoeherriot The Damned's "Life Goes On", pre-dated both and contained a similar riff to both songs
But it became another masterpiece alongside this. Can't complain i have them both as my influence, i'd hope there was even more
Listen to U Mass by the Pixies, it's Teen Spirit, but in major key
Man...hearing this song live was one of the greatest experiences of my life 👏
His name is Robert Paulson.
His name is Robert Paulson.
His name is Robert Paulson.
Lol, nice touch!
In Project Mayhem, you don't have a name. In death, a member of Project Mayhem has a name. His name is Robert Paulson.
Her name was Roberta Paulson.
Her name was Roberta Paulson.
Her name was Roberta Paulson.
A classic blink182 reaction would be nice :) or fitting to this blur - song 2.
This song gives me goosebumps every time I hear it. My favorite song of all times. Excellent choice.
Trainspotting has one of the best movie soundtracks in film!
Yeah, this definitely sounds more like 90s.
I've not heard this one before.
Great song!
wasn't it part of their 1988 album?
OK, I thought I was just losing it by not remembering it in "Trainspotting." Guess that video kinda worked, but I more associated Iggy Pop and Lou Reed with that one. 👶👶👶👶
Had born slippy from underworld in trainspotting as well
88 basically counts as 90s music. Jane's Addiction released Nothing's Shocking in 88, for instance.
The Pixies, Jane's Addiction, Husker Du, The Replacements, Dinosour Jr., Fugazi, where all bands that released great music in the late 80's. They were the pioneers who made grunge possible!
that44rdv4rk Yo, they should react to Jane’a Addiction, not many react channels do it
@@darrenbernard3526 exactly plus r.e.m., meat puppets, sonic youth, etc. That 90s sound existed in the 80s it was just a bit more left of the dial
@@darrenbernard3526 The U-Men are considered the first grunge band. They were 80s.
@@marvelmite1 Exactly. You just had to live near a college and tune way down low to like 85.3 and they played all the good stuff back then.
I’ve seen several interviews with David Bowie naming the Pixies as one of the most influential bands of the time. Kurt Cobain, as you mentioned, also gave them enormous credit as an influence. Most definitely they were pioneers.
I lost my dad about 15 years ago when I was still a teen, and watching y'all together in these videos brought up so many memories of him sharing his old music with me. Of course, his were on vinyl and cassette tapes (lol who remembers those?) and he had me listening to The Big Bopper, Frankie Valley, and Roy Orbison hahahaha ... But just know for the rest of her life, your daughter will remember her dad when she hears these songs and she will be forever grateful for those memories.
Worth asking Annie if she recognised a young Obi wan!
Pixies were ahead of their time overall! Oh, and I did order a Coldest Water flamingo pink thingie, and used the discount code. My wife loves it. (Nobody asked me for this endorsement.)
That poor kid probably wondered wtf was going on, especially when your half asleep lol.
This song is amazing. If you really listen closely, you can hear them hit some dull notes. This has to be a first take, no? I love shit like that. Just a raw recording. So genuine. 🤘🤘🤘
This channel is the one thing that had convinced me starting a family is worthwhile! Amazing stuff!
Yep Where is my Mind at the end of Fight Club is icing on the cake
You are giving her such a gift! Teach them what good music is. I did this with my now 30 year old daughter and she still thanks me for showing her the way!
This is a fan-made video that used scenes from "Trainspotting". The song is not about drugs, it is about the singer's trip to The Bahamas and a scuba-diving incident he had. It was NOT in this movie.
when you spoke of nirvarna i first saw them live way back in 1987 here in the uk the band sat at the bar in the club before going on stage was with pod as support act in a rock club called edwards No 8 they had a different drummer back then ,andsaw the pixies a few times 1 in the same club back in early 87 and 2 other small venues in birmingham uk
Movie: fight club. Final scene. But it was Placebo’s cover of the song.
SEU PEQ it was most definitely the original pixies song at the end of fight club
Gigantic by Pixies. But a live version. It will be interesting her to listening Kim Deal singing, at the 80's.
Have you hear "Into The White"? If not look it up, Kim sings lead.
The title of the video should be: "I force my sleepy kid to listen to a Pixies song".
I've heard this song before. maybe several times , but its hard to believe it came out in the 80's. It really sounds like 90's. thumbs up
This song doesn't need a video. Just close your eyes and let the song take you where it takes you.
It is on the official trainspotting soundtrack but I don't recall it in the film. But I remember it from fight club as well. In the same boat as you.
Ya, I got really confused by that.
No, it wasn't in Trainspotting. It's a fan vid. Pixies didn't have a music video until the next album, Doolittle, in 1989.
You guys should do perfect day by Lou Reed which was used in trainspotting
Love the scene were there running along prince's Street then past the 3 bulls pub where Renton gets knocked over just under that bridge is a place that used to called the venue it was amazing watching bands in there unfortunately it's an art gallery n offices 😢
Oh man, I freakin love this song! So glad you did it. Love the pixies! 🧚♀️ great riff too.
Definitely ahead of its time. And appropriate for trainspotting too. How good was that movie?
Yes! Thank you!
Violent Femmes - Add It Up!
Also, Nirvana (Kurt, at least) was inspired by Pixies. Smells Like Teen Spirit was basically him trying to blatantly rip off the sound with its quiet loud quiet dynamics
If I remember correctly, Kurt's daughter was named in part after the pixies' lead singer.
So, the closer you all get to Annie's birthday, the more I want to see a few reactions.
The first is just cheesy, but alien ant farm covering smooth criminal.
The second is serious: Alice in chains doing Down In A Hole unplugged.
Nirvana unplugged doing In The Pines/Where did you sleep last night. And maybe come as you are also.
Lastly, I'm holding out hope for that double header Fleetwood Mac "big love" request.
Sent you a message on P with a cover song I thought was super well done
Lol, Annie are you ok? Thanks for the suggestions, working on more later this week with Annie.
Could ye react to Rory Gallagher, maybe philby, bad penny, shadow play, pistol slapper blues, moonchild or bullfrog blues. Rory is one of the greatest guitarists in the world. He was born in Ballyshannon, Donegal, ireland and grew up in County Cork. Also Classical Gas, performed by Tommy Emmanuel is another great guitarist.
I grew up in the 90's and I don't think I heard this until Fight Club.
The sound of a decade usually started the previous decade.
Will you guys react to Funkadelic - Maggot Brain? I'd love to see Annie's reaction to such a beautiful song!
That was my fav part in Trainspotting...where he swims past the kidney stone...lmao! That was one crazy movie!
Fun fact 2 biggest alternatif rock musician was huge fan of pixxies..
(Tom yorke, kurt cobain)
But you notice, the junkies in Trainspotting have no weight problems. No difficulty with obesity at all. Grunge began in the mid '80s, as just a very raw, fuzzy heavy rock sound, not trying to be metal, somewhat influenced by hardcore punk, but just pursuing a different mood. What we think of as grunge was the more polished, radio-friendly evolution of it associated with Seattle. But bands like Husker Du were doing thick, dark, heavy grunge way before, and that was the semi-underground, anti-popular scene that Cobain wanted to be part of, embracing the underdog solidarity in not being popular, and just making independent music for the joy of creativity.
Fun fact, grunge started in the mid 1980s with The U-Men.
Nirvana was basically a Pixies cover band.
The first time I play great music for my daughter I don't stop it every 15 seconds. You're doing her a disservice by not allowing her to experience the music for the first time without interruption.
Most people know it from trainspotting...lol. And it’s Obi Wan on drugs!! 😂😂😂
Did anybody else have “rule 1: you don’t talk about fight club” in their mind when you heard him say him and his wife talk about fight club??
omfg... I love the pixies.
Pixies is an iconic band, and "Where is my mind" is an amazing track.
But Lou Reeds “A Perfect Day” nailed it!!!
Did Coldplay sample this? I'm hearing, "when you try your best but you don't succeed" whatever that song is called
Usually when I see a thumbnail for a new video: Oh yay! Glitch in the matrix uploaded!
This time: Oh my God, is that Ewan McGregor?
Lol
Oh I just found the pixies and I’m so mad that it took me this long and I’m a hip-hop fan…
The movie "Sucker Punch" has a cover of this song sung by Yoav and Emily Browning. The movie didn't do very good in the theaters, but if you check out the soundtrack, it has some very good cover songs that are used int he movie. Another cover that I really like is "White Rabbit", covered by Emilíana Torrini.
I LOVE GRUNGE (particularly Pearl Jam & Audioslave)! Well --- there goes my chance to get Eddie's lyrics down... Oh, snap.
Did anyone else notice the eerie similarity between Ewan McGregor swimming in the video and the swimming baby on Nirvana's, Never Mind album cover?
Now we're talking.
The Pixies were not Grunge but they did influence some of the biggest bands of the '90s - Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Alice in Chains, Mudhoney, PJ Harvey, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, the Strokes, Modest Mouse, Radiohead among many others
You know, I had a Chillow. It leaked after a week. Not happy. Anyway, go check out Something Against You, also by the Pixies.
Was just listening to this tune this morning
I believe it was written by Frank Black watching break dancers. Scuba diving?
This album, along with so, so many other punk/indie rock classics from the late 80s onwards was recorded and produced by Steve Albini. Urge Overkill, Bitch Magnet, The Jesus Lizard, Nirvana, Slint, The Wedding Present, Fugazi, Superchunk just to name a few. The man is a legend and practically defined the sound of an era.
It's played at the end of Westworld Season 3 in homage to Fight Club. Great song and didn't think it was so old.
I was wondering when you would get to this song. I absolutely love the pixies ... So much so that I moved from the east coast of Canada to Vancouver on the west coast just to go see the reunion tour in 2004 on back to back nights 😀
You should do Wave Of Mutilation (UK Surf) while you’re on The Pixies.
I prefer Wave of Mutilation UK Surf...plus from another good movie Pump Up the Volume
maybe Annie needs to hear "Girl all the bad guys want" by Bowling for Soup
Should have a reaction to (The Cure's - Burn )as well... big fan of the movie The Crow!!
I mentioned that one a couple of days ago, it’s the cures best song imo and not that many know of it, such an atmospheric song from a great film.
Speaking of not sounding like the 80s...how about some early 80s with Dramarama 'Anything'? I think every punk band has covered that song for the past 25 years.
You should show her the MTV Unplugged version of Jeremy by Pearl Jam (or any unplugged Pearl Jam song, they're all fantastic)
If you haven't heard the Hurra Torpedo version of this yet, please go listen. You are welcome.
Godsmack - Awake🤟🤟
In Project Mayhem, you don't have a name. In death, a member of Project Mayhem has a name. His name is Robert Paulson.
I love the first trainspotting but I feel that t2 trainspotting is even better than the first
Now your daughter knows how Obi Wan Kenobi became a Jedi 😅
Such a well-crafted song. The “soft/loud/soft/loud” that they made famous and was an inspiration to not only Nirvana but many other bands around that time. I was lucky enough to see them in a small venue a couple of years ago. Great show. If you like The Pixies, maybe try “Gouge Away”. Side note: I’m learning this song on the guitar right now. I can play the electric lead section except the solo gives me a little trouble (I’m not a good guitar player lol).
Love the name of your channel. Glitch in the matrix. I am now subscribed keep going :)
Obi Wan after the Sith took over! He was running from the law and then did alot of Death Sticks!😃
Surfer Rosa every song on it is great
I haven't heard this in years. Great song.
bands : the replacement, love and rockets, mother love bone, stone roses, jesus and mary chains bands who sounds alternative and they are mid and late 80s
I loved Love and Rockets...I'm aliiiive..so so aliiiive..lol
Violent Femmes,too!
another perfect song from another perfect album
Trainspotting is also one of my favorite movies thats what this video is lol
I dont think this song is in this movie but I haven't seen it in a while so idk
It's not, I had to double check, that one threw me off.
There's an excellent cover of this song at the end of Seth Rogan's *"Observe and Report"* movie I highly recommend checking out. 👍
And used perfectly I might add. Perfectly placed.
This song is a masterpiece
Damn what a song, one of my favs for sure. She was just focused on the video, she is senseless to great music xD
Best band ever
Takes me back to being 13, brilliant song, now I have got to watch Trainspotting and Fight Club again. P.S. you shouldn't be talking about it🤐🤘
Not on the “Train Spotting” sound track…but should’ve been for sure!!!
Would love to see you both react to the London green day crowd singing bohemian rhapsody
Maybe you wanna check out Parkway Drive - The Void (live at Wacken)
Epic live concert!
I can relate to this song in my younger clubbing days 😬😬
PIXIES !!!! EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
I was just about to listen to this song! Crazy
Loved the vid. Hey and velouria are great songs by pixies that I’d love to see you listen to.
Kurt loved the pixies
