    Strange, I never noticed that Kirk took a gulp of the drink before handing it off to Lenore before.
    He even does the classic "Shatner reacts to a drink" manoeuvre!

    McCoy drinking on duty... it was the 1960s. People had liquid lunches up into the 1980s.

    Not really a blooper but next time you watch this episode, notice how many times Barbara Anderson's mouth is in partial or full shadow. This is because she had a cold sore on her lip some days of filming.

    I never really thought about it but why would they have a hinged door for the red alert light and a shelf?

      Ever change a light bulb?

    • @TREK-WORLD
      @TREK-WORLD  Місяць тому

      I would bet they don't use anything like lightbulbs by the time of Star Trek; even we are moving to surface mounted led. I bought a new house three years ago and every light in the house is a surface mounted led except the chandelier in the dining room.

      I hadn't thought of that either. There is no explanation for why they did that. It's so out of place that it would be like keeping your microwave inside you refrigerator.

    The audio of this video is slighty off

      So is the commentary

      I noticed that as well.... But not sure entirely how it happened. When I noticed it today, it reminded me of a dubbed movie where the shape of the actor's mouth doesn't match the word properly. I'll have to keep an ear open for it in the next one to make sure it doesn't creep through again.

    Sir, have you ever read Phil Farrand's Nitpicker's Guide for Classic Trekkers? I feel like you might get some pretty good mileage out of it for this series

      😀 Please.... call me Jim. We're all friends here. And oh yes, Phil's books are part of my research in each of these videos (I list his books in the credits at the end of each of these). I am truly in awe of the research that he did back at a time before the first set of DVDs were released. So he only had the original footage to go by.

      @@TREK-WORLD it also helps that he had a large network of fans to call upon. From what I'm led to understand, he experienced the show in syndication growing up in the Philippines

    If there's so reaction to an explosion in space, how do rocket engines work? For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction ven in a vacuum.

    • @TREK-WORLD
      @TREK-WORLD  Місяць тому

      I get to actually "Nerd Out" with this response! 😀😀😀😀😀😀 Actually, rockets don't work that way in space. They actually push against the gasses that they create in the engine. The explosion caused by that combustion is going to create very hot gases, which are expelled out the bottom of a rocket, If you drive enough force out to the bottom of the rocket, the reaction is the rocket's movement in the opposite direction. Since a normal explosion of a phaser would create a 360 degree wave like a ripple in a pond; the resulting impact on a ship would be negligle based on the size of the explosion and the proximity of the blast. In short, the rockets don't push against anything in space; they push on their little pocket of gasses that they themselves create.

    Good vid but you missed one of the biggest gaffes of the episode. Near the end when Riley was talking to Kirk and Karidean overheard Riley's voice. He then tells Lanore that Riley's voice had brought back memories of another part he had once been involved in that he had never told her about. The only logical inference of it all, since it was sparked by him hearing Riley's voice, is that he is talking about what happened on Tarsus 4. However, if he never told Lenore anything about it how could she have known that he had committed such a crime. And that there were surviving witnesses to murder?!

    Actually when you were first describing how there were no stars behind Lenore in the observation deck, I was thinking to myself: “what is he talking about? I can still see stars on that black screen behind her.” But then I realized, that my cell phone screen is just dirty. My bad, you’re correct. 😀

    Does no one else find it creepy that Kirk is in his mid-thirties and Lenore is supposed to be 19?

    • @TREK-WORLD
      @TREK-WORLD  Місяць тому

      Actually, I never even thought of that until you mentioned it. DRAT! I wish I had been able to comment on that. It kind of mirrors Roddenberry's own preoccupation with girls and women.

      You said it! It's almost kind of sad that it is funny to us now. But back then so much of this went on to the point it was just considered normal.

    • @TREK-WORLD
      @TREK-WORLD  Місяць тому

      Yeah. I think it probably sits in the top 25% of the series. But alot of people don't like it because of some of the elements that make it interesting to me. I love classic tragedy.... but let's face it.... Shakespeare makes some folks ears bleed. 😀😀
