I'm sorry, but I frankly think that a sequel or tv series right now is a horrible idea. Hollywood now is all about "inclusion and diversity", aka political propaganda being more important than a good story true to the original characters. This would be the death of the proposed product, as Galaxy Quest is really all about the fans and the actors who created all of this science fiction, NOT POLITICAL PROPAGANDA OR ANYTHING ELSE.

I watched it on DVD by accident. When they used to do deals on 3 dvd's for £20 I only wanted two so had to randomly pick a thrid to get the deal and choose this and I agree, so good.
I was in a theater for Galaxy Quest. The audience exploded at the end with a roaring standing ovation. I never saw that before, and I'll never see it again. It's a one-off that cannot be duplicated.
@@jc4jax Avenger: Endgame was just another one of those MCU movies that have all blurred together to the point where I don't even remember what was in them. Galaxy Quest I still remember. I saw it first as a rental.
I had the honor of being part of the choir for the soundtrack. Even if I hadn't, I'm a HUGE fan of this movie. This popcast and your commentary are spot on!
WICKED wicked choir for that EPIC soundtrack! I always appreciate it deeply, every time I hear those soaring voices. Thank you so much for your contribution. :D
My wife and I loved it from the first viewing. After we became parents, we shared the experience with our kids. We still watch it when anything reminds us of it .
I'm 78 (Nov 1945) and my first science fiction movie was The Day the Earth Stood Still with Michael Rennie which came out in 1951. I have been a Sci-Fi fan ever since I was 6 years old and I have 3 sons (7/31/82, 1/7/84, & 7/15/85) who have all been brought up as SF fans as well. My daughter (8/17/72) and her 3 sons (twins on 7/6/94 & 10/20/2001.) also got stung by my SF "bug". I replaced almost all of my VHS movies (except the Disney classic VHS copies) with DVDs & Blu-rays and probably 1/4 - 1/3 of those 1,200± movies in the various bookcases around our house are Sci-Fi. GQ is the penultimate S-F Fan film and there probably shouldn't be a sequel because it doesn't need one. Besides, it wouldn't work without Alan Rickman. It's best just to keep rewatching this timeless classic.
As a Star Trek fan, I count Galaxy Quest as one of my all time favourite movies. I saw it in a theater without knowing anything about, I came out knowing that I shared a great event with my friends.
Same thing. My close friend being a "Trekie" took both of us to the theater to see it. We were both laughing our asses off. Still one of the greatest parodies ever made.
No sequel needed. This movie is an ICON of a TIME we all cherish! When the World was not as Dangerous as it has become. Thank you for this BACKSTORY to such a Fun FEEL GOOD Story of FANtasy!
I was with some friends in 2000, who suggested going to see a movie. A couple of them had already seen Galaxy Quest and said it was good. I remembered one trailer that was not that impressive but went along as a whatever. I absolutely fell in love with the film. When Laredo scrapes the ship pulling it out of the dock, I nearly peed my pants. I left and immediately called my parents in Texas. My Dad was a big Star Trek fan. I told him, ignore what you think about this film and stop what you are doing and go now. Right now! They loved it, too.
It was a theatre which had seen better days; the half-dozen of us in the audience, having travelled from half the county away watched, slightly baffled, as the movie started... then continued... then gasped as the aspect ratio finally opened up to its fullest. We cried at That Scene, we laughed with Sam Rockwell saying, "that's not right..." as our imaginations ran riot and above all, without looking at anyone else, as one, we all stood and applauded as the credits rolled. Seriously. Simultaneously - or as close to it as you can get without rehearsal. It was a magical moment, tinged with sadness, as we would've loved the theatre to be full (it was, years later when the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Special was simulcast in 3D - yet there was not a whisper as the show finished on that one). Galaxy Quest is special, and I've seen/heard many a fan say that we can't have any more of it, as Alan Rickman is not replaceable. Of course, we have The Orville to keep us warm on cold nights...
It bums me out I didn't see this in theaters. The theatrical version has 3 aspect ratio changes. It starts in 1.33:1 for the TV show clips, switches to 1.85:1 for the next 20 minutes, and when the ship leaves the space dock it switches to 2.35:1 so you'd get that real "entering space" feeling. Home/TV versions of the movie swaps immediately to 2.35:1 after the TV show clips and there's no "gasp" moment. 😥
@@DonOblivious it's no 'comfort' to you, but yes, it was an amazing moment! We had his view of the doors opening... And they just kept on opening wider and beyond the screen size we'd been looking at! A very rare BIG moment!
Same, I have watched this movie countless times. The cast is what made this movie so great, every character in this movie was acted superbly. My favorite character is all of them.
Two months before GQ was released, I was in a serious vehicle accident and suffered a lot of pain and loss that left me severely depressed. I love sci-fi movies and adored the cast of this movie so agreed to go sit in a theater for nearly two hours... in a lot of pain. I'm pretty sure the other moviegoers must've thought I'd lost my mind because I laughed so hard... then cried... then laughed some more. But the harder I laughed,, the more everyone laughed with me. It was an amazing experience that helped snap me out of my depression. I sometimes joke around about GQ saving my life. And perhaps it did. But it's definitely on the top 10 list of my fave movies. I used to think I was alone in how much I loved this movie, but I was wrong. I'm so very happy to see such a huge fan base for such an amazing movie. Thank you for all the work you put into making this video. This has to be among the top best videos I've watched on UA-cam to date. PS. I hope they don't make a sequel at this point. Just leave it be.
Alan Rickman not only made that movie, by delivering perfect comedy and perfect drama with the same line by the same character in the same movie, but I also believe he got a lot of the other actors to up their acting game during the movie. Certainly Tim Allen, but I also think Justin Long. Both were great, and not everything else they've done would necessarily fit into "great acting." Galaxy Quest has been one of my very favorite movies since I first saw it. Not in theaters, but a couple years later on VHS (remember that?) from a video store (remember those?). Got my own copy as soon as humanly possible.
Great point about Rickman "...delivering perfect comedy and perfect drama with the same line by the same character in the same movie". Great perception, well put.
I won a free ticket to this one. There were only a hand full of people in the theater watching this.. Strangers, but we had soo much fun together. It was awesome.
I took my 8 year old son to the screening at a small cinaplex. I was blown away by the film. It is still one of my very favorite films. If i happen to catch a broadcast, it doesn't matter where in the run I see it. I am hooked until the credit roll. Thank you for the memories your documentary has evoked
*"I'm not even supposed to be here. I'm just 'Crewman Number Six. I'm expendable. I'm the guy in the episode who dies to prove how serious the situation is. I've gotta get outta here."*
no matter how many times i watched the movie, i never once thought of Tony Shaloub's character as being a stoner, i had always thought of him as being just one of those types that is completely relaxed and nothing ever worries him.
I saw it in the theater. I am a big Star Trek fan and Galaxy Quest was made for me. I loved the Thermians and Alan Rickman... It was a movie just for me. I don't know that I want a sequal. It had no equal.
@@scottdoesntmatter4409 Really. Sequels are almost always made by people with an eye towards the $$$ they might generate, not out of respect or love for the original. For good examples, check the last 20 years. With the exception of Terminator 2 and Aliens, it's shown to be a bad, bad idea.
I did not see it in theaters but on VHS. I told everyone, "How could i have missed this when it first came out!" I've lost count how often I've watched it over the years.
I remember seeing the trailer on other VHS tapes I owned. Also having the VHS of Galaxy Quest and hated how the trailer was made- totally undersold the movie. Not to mention odd edits where Sarris is shown grabbing Tim Allen's mouth in the interrogation scene and a new line of dialogue is created where Allen says "Its just a misunder- (muffled) standing" which isn't even said in that scene. I just remember that trailer being a mess and finally sitting down to watch the movie not knowing what to expect and being blown away.
Would love to see a director's cut of this. The beauty of this movie is it pokes gentle fun at ST and the fan phenomenon while also celebrating the fandom. The tension between the cast is also well done. What really makes it is the actors, you can tell they really loved doing it and they made it work. Tim Allen had the right comedic chops to portray the captain as this narcissist yet also that he actually has seeds of greatness in him, you see him develop a heart.
When a documentary about a comedy that made you laugh your ass off makes you laugh your ass off, you know that there is enduring gold right there. Great work, guys.... Here's hoping it gets added to the 25th anniversary DVD.... At least, I hope there's going to be an anniversary release.
Oooh a 25th anniversary edition would be awesome! They could finally fix the bad decision they made for the home/tv releases with regards to the aspect ratio. In the theatrical release before they leave the space dock the movie, minus the TV show clips in 1.33:1, is in 1.85:1 and as they enter space the ratio widens to 2.35:1. Elsewhere in the comments somebody mentions gasping when it happened. It's a damn shame the removed that neat bit of editing from the home/tv release of the movie.
Wonderful Tribute to a film that keeps me hoping to meet some thermians and get coated in gel and blasted into space. Thank you fans, cast, writers and crew for one of the best movies ever made. !!!
Galaxy Quest is one of those rare movies where everything just comes together.. there's nothing about it that fails or lets one down. While it clearly teases many sci-fi tropes, characters, and people.. it's never cruel.
I absolutely loved this documentary about Galaxy Quest. I'm really disappointed in YT's algorithm for not recommending this video sooner to me. I actually only found it after watching the Star Trek Movies ranked video and decided to see if I had missed other Popcast videos and found this one. Every Star Trek fan should be recommended this wonderfully done video! C'mon UA-cam get your act together.
I had not heard that so thank you mate. Having thought about it, Tim Allen, a known potty language comedian would have to have expected that classification. Anyone got any outtakes. They should be funny enough. Look at the cast. All smart and funny
@@kidowan. Her lips are easy to watch ❤ but you're correct. I hate that when it happens. Same thing done to Burt Gummer when he kills graboid in basement. But they changed the word dick to bastard. Lol

I saw it at the theater opening weekend. I loved it. When leaving after the movie , I told my date that as soon as it came out on DVD, I would be buying it. 😊
This was great! Loved Galaxy Quest - I'm not sure why I never saw this in the movie theater when it was released. And I can't remember when I saw it first. All I know is that it is a part of my video library and our family watches it regularly. I don't know if I would want sequel movie or series. I would not want to ruin the memories of the original. Plus, with Alan Rickman gone, I don't think it would be the same. He was a big part of the original.
I’m so glad Galaxy Quest overall mission was to celebrate us scifi fans ; when the pilot “ The Cage” of Star Trek first aired in Canada on Sept 6 1966, I was hooked from the beginning of it all. Remember being so disappointed in William Shatner when he told fans to get a life. If it wasn’t the love for scifi I would have never pursued my quest in publishing my scifi / horror thriller book “ Black Angels “. Years before publishing my book I was looking for my idea on screen, producing a series of screenplays that never took hold. Therefore I changed my Hollywood dream into a science fiction book . When I saw Galaxy Quest I knew where it was going- it was and is awesome. Thank you Galaxy Quest 🙏
My roommate and I saw it on its opening weekend. We were still laughing a half hour after we got back home! I bought the DVD the day of its release and I've watched it I don't know how many times since then.
Me and my wife randomly watched this on a whim. We’re both in our mid 30’s and have never heard of this movie, but as a lifelong diehard Star Wars, LoTR, GoT fan, I absolutely love this movie. When I say “fan”, I really mean dumping most of my time in reading books, diving into the lore, going to conventions, cosplaying, etc. I absolutely loved the portrayal of the fans in this gem of a film. Can’t believe I have never even heard of it 😭
This absolutely played randomly while I wasn't paying attention, but that intro got me!! Never give up! Never surrender! Loved Galaxy quest, I'm here for it
Galexcy Quest will go down in history as a Classic! As it should. I laughed and cried when I say it and continue to choke up when the Thermion hears By Graphers hammer… with his dying breath, thats movie gold!
Saw this with my best friend, randomly at a theatre. Laughed our asses off. One special feature on the DVD was the audio option to watch the entire movie in the Thermian language 🤣
Omg the Reading Rainbow fact really blew my mind. I was a huge Reading Rainbow fan as a little kid and because of LeVar Burton I also got into Trek as a kid. I'll never forget the behind the scenes of TNG episode RR did. My mom recorded it for me. I remember being amazed that the transporter effect was a jar of water and glitter being stirred. Thanks for that trip down memory lane.
My then wife and I (neither of us Star Trek fans, nor sci-fi enthusiasts) saw this masterpiece on its UK debut by default when the film we turned up for in our local multiscreen was sold out. Babysitter was in place so we just dibbed on Galaxy Quest. We proselytized it to our friends and family, bought it on DVD release, showed it to our kids and it remains a loved, re-watch movie to this day. If David Mamet thinks it is one of the four "perfect" Hollywood films... hey, good enough for me.
I was/am a fan of Galaxy Quest.. I actually owned it on VHS and watched the heck out of it.. like I keep telling these people today.. i grew up in an era without CGI movies.. I will never take any production for granted.. thousands of artists pour their heart and talent into all of these productions. Thanks for a nostalgic look at one of those forgotten special movies..
I love how galaxy quest gets all this love . Now then this does not mean we want more leave it be corpos we dont need or want another mismanaged scifi reboot. Cant wait to watch love you guys at the popcast keep it up.
I'm sorry, but I frankly think that a sequel or tv series right now is a horrible idea. This would be the death of the proposed product, as Galaxy Quest is really all about the fans and the actors who created all of this science fiction, NOT POLITICAL PROPAGANDA OR ANYTHING ELSE.
@@scottdoesntmatter4409, there is nothing wrong with "inclusion and diversity." The problem is that if something with those qualities isn't done well and is poorly received as a result, some will claim it's because "being inclusive and diverse makes things bad," and not that the show or movie had bad writing, or a shallow plot, etc. These folks also manage to ignore all the movies and TV shows made over the decades that were inclusive and diverse (including classic Star Trek) and also well received. It also blows my mind that some people see putting a woman or POC in a movie or TV show is "political propaganda."
Wrong. The instant you make other qualities more important than competency and the story itself, that's the instant the product suffers. The actors are incompetent, the writers are abysmal, and the story is little more than a vehicle for propaganda. @@DaniJay-fk8qr
Diversity works in sci-fi when it’s done well and not shoehorned in to tick a box. It wasn’t constantly referred to that Sisko was Black or that Janeway was a woman it was just who they were. They were both awesome characters with fantastic actors. That would be overshadowed now to show they were diverse. It was not mentioned in DS9 with the exception of a few episodes which dealt with issues in the past. If it was done now, it would be the identifying feature of his character, and lots of the stories would be about it.
Co-worker of mine, (Trekkie, like me) many-many-many years ago, swore he would not watch this movie, so being an a$$ that I am, bought DVD and gave to him as Christmas Present. Jan 2nd next year, he very heartily thanked me. He said he have never laughed so hard.
I saw it the first time in the theatre at a Saturday morning showing. When the ship is damaged and drifting through space a little girl yelled out, "it broke!" I can't watch the film, which I do regularly, without hearing her voice in that scene. Galaxy Quest in the pantheon of films that should NEVER be remade.
Galaxy Quest has to be the second best Star Trek movie, The Wrath of Khan being number one. I saw Galaxy Quest at the theater because of Tim Allen. I'm sorry for this, but I bought the VHS tape because someone told me that Sigourney Weaver had bigger ... well you know what I mean. Something I didn't notice when I saw it the first time. A couple of years I was staying home a lot and watched it a couple of times a month. It really is a great movie, your show did it justice. Thank you. 😸
Loved this from the start. Was an original Star Trek gal born 1960. Think Galaxy Quest perfect on own. Next should be like next generation. New tangent.
A decade later, I glommed onto Trek re-runs of the 70s. I didn't grok all the nuances of the Trek original series, but the last "Toy" of my childhood was the Enterprise bridge with spinning teleporter. I loved that toy and was just old enough to appreciate how much more accurate the Shattner and Nimoy "action figures" were than any other merchandise based on live actors. I wonder whatever happened to it...and I wish and had collected the entire crew--then kept it in "collectable" condition.
After 15mins, I located a video showing this toy set. Mego was the company. I believe my Kirk and Spock were 1st series, 2nd revision (I don't remember metal-vs-plastic joint hinges, but the phasers, communicators, and tricorder look right.) ua-cam.com/video/atNZ-im27Pc/v-deo.html
I absolutely loved this movie & "tip my hat" to the actors for their ability for being able to keep a "straight face" when portraying their characters. Well done!
That Tim Allen had the #1 Book, movie AND TV show simultaneously is pretty amazing. A humble legend. This film is often over looked or forgotten but, it's a treasure when you find it. P.S. Saving Private Ryan was released a year and a half earlier
My sister and her husband went to see it in the theatre during their anniversary night-out. She laughed so hard that other viewers left, unable to hear the film. It is certainly a favorite in this family.
I'm not a Treki, but I appreciated the movement (and Next Generation came out during my puberty days...lol) and went to a few movie releases....then I joined the Navy and this came out...my friends and EVERYONE went to see this! Still Love it.
My late husband and I watched this movie in the theater when it first came out - we LOVED IT! Both of us were in fandom, especially Star Trek, and frequented all the local conventions. We felt like we "knew" everyone at the con in the movie. My late hubby called the movie "A fanboy's wet dream!" It's one of my favorite movies of all time, and I never tire of watching it.
Great vid. I loved this, and I still cherish Galaxy Quest to this day... hilarious and fun... this is a nice tribute to it, as it is a nice tribute to Star Trek.
I was a science fiction fan since I was a little kid. I remember walking around Kelowna BC Canada with my mother, sister and brother in law and I saw this on the movie marquee and suggested we go see it. I went in with zero expectations and came out raving about what an excellent and fun movie it was. Thank you to all those who made this gem of a movie happen.
Great video, Galaxy Quest is one of my favourite movies and I’d rank it as the best Star Trek movie (just as I’d rank The Orville as the best Star Trek series). Your documentary did what a great documentary should do: it taught me things I didn’t know about the topic, it entertained me (making me laugh out loud at times) and made me want to rewatch Galaxy Quest. Great job!
I love Trek. I love Galaxy Quest just as much. It was so satirical in such an affectionate way, that it was endearing. “Is there even air?!? You don’t know!” ROFL!!! No sequels. Leave it alone.
One of the best ways that this movie has been honored is by consistently being voted as one of the top Star Trek movies by attendees at Star Trek conventions. Now, that’s high praise!
Thanks for this. As a child of two hippie aged Trek fans it was a major part of my life growing up (not so much since Kurtzman). Dad took me to conventions as a teen and then later we would go together with his grandkids. Lost him a few years back now but Galaxy Quest was another one we saw together and really enjoyed. One of my favorite movies with such a great cast. Funny how all the pieces matter and how coincidental all the the great scenes came together to make it work.
NO! Hollywood would RUIN this thing like they're ruining everything else they put their woke hands on. After Hollywood goes bankrupt and that whole thing turns to dust - maybe then, someone with talent will make something as good as Galaxy Quest.
PS: I have this on a VHS tape I bought when the movie first came out. The old VHS machine has started eating tape, so I'll need to upgrade to another format soon. I have no intention of losing access to this film...
Saw in theaters and I was completely blown away, I was expecting Spaceballs but found something even better. I was also shocked at how few people were even aware of it at the time. Its always been one of my favorites. Right up the with others from this period like "the Fifth Element". I love how much love it is finally getting for being so real and thoughtful. No sequel needed.
I found your channel during the beginning of Picard season 3. I love your content. You guys speak with such passion about the things you talk about it’s hard not to have a good time. This definitive history is a perfect example of that. I would enjoy seeing a sequel or something but would also be okay with galaxy quest being a one and done. The movie is such a love letter to fandom and trek I don’t want that legacy tarnished by a bad sequel
As always - VERY nicely done👍 Slight correction - I think the "marionette" series you meant was *_Fireball XL5_* 🙂 Always enjoyed this movie - and prompted by your video, It's back on the bookmarked "watch again" list for some time next week. Does anyone know if the uncut version (non-PG13) was ever made available anywhere?
I first saw Galaxy Quest on video ... somehow missed it in the theatre. It's one of my all time favorite movies that I revisit and watch again and again and it's always amazing! I would not want to see a sequel. There is no way it could be as good as the original. Thanks for putting up such a wonderful and insightful video about this movie.
I have always loved this movie. The casting is sublime, with some of the best available actors. It deserves so much more, and if it had been supported from the beginning by the studio, it would undoubtedly have been much more successful.
I wasn't much of a movie goer around 1999. I don't recall when I saw GQ, but I absolutely loved it more than I could have imagined. No doubt I rented it on a whim one night. I bought a used copy on VHS not long after, and I still own it despite the fact that my VHS deck self destructed years ago. I smiled all the way through this doc, even while welling up about Mr Rickman. As a tribute to fandom it shall always remain a brilliant film, and any attempts to remake it will deserve to fail miserably, as no doubt it would. By Grabthars Hammer I shall never give up, nor ever surrender. ☮️🙏
This was a great video, way in detail. I love this movie, didn't know about until I bought on DVD. Total fan, I could not stop laughing when I first seen this movie. All the actors were A++, this movie is a classic.
The opening 45 seconds gave me goosebumps and made me want to go watch this movie again. I haven't seen it in probably 15 years but it's so great! They would have had to make the sequel 20 years ago. It wouldn't capture the same magic now.
In the early 1980s I was a roommate of David Howard who wrote the story for Galaxy Quest. It was a house of seven all of whom loved Star Trek he was a beautiful friend.
One of my all time favorite movies. I was fortunate to attend a preview screening with the original audio intact and with many ILM crew there, also. Sigourney's F-bomb was easily the biggest laugh, along with a couple of Tony Shaloub's lines. Kind of a shame we don't have that version available. 😕 btw this showing was at the Northgate Theater in Terra Linda, CA
Bought it on VHS in 2001 from my local video store here in England. I also bought a packet of Marlboro reds and a four-pack of Carlsberg Special Brew because I was classy ;). Yeah, I still remember what I bought. It pissed on all the Star Trek and new (at the time) Star Wars movies. I don't want a sequel or a series, that's how important this movie is to me. Still have the VHS tape and only watch the movie every five years.

@@scottdoesntmatter4409Oh please. You don’t have to bring politics into everything. Star Trek itself was at the forefront of “inclusion and diversity”.
This is simply the best retrospective of anything Hollywood - anything - I have ever experienced, Scalzi & Redshirts notwithstanding. Never give up. Never Surrender.
Alan Rickman & Tony Shalhoub stayed with me. Especially the latter with his line "get some change ?" a throwback to his taxi driver character in the 1991 "Quick Change" & the good Alan Rickman steals the show without even trying.

Agreed. I'm 71 and i NEVER GAVE UP...I NEVER SURRENDERED!
@@WahooLee The sudden death of Alan Rickman nixed the sequel. Without him, it just wouldn't have been the same.
As a Star Trek fan, I count Galaxy Quest as one of my all time favourite movies. I saw it in a theater without knowing anything about, I came out knowing that I shared a great event with my friends.
@@loturzelrestaurant Thank you, I will.
Same thing. My close friend being a "Trekie" took both of us to the theater to see it. We were both laughing our asses off. Still one of the greatest parodies ever made.
Hi, you are aware of the fact that the Star Trek universe has accepted Galaxy Quest as 'canon'??
@@titanoboa7165 I did not know that. How did they make it fit in? In all cases it is a wonderful notion.
What i want, is the unedited variant... i would pay ten times the box office ticket price, for that...
No sequel needed. This movie is an ICON of a TIME we all cherish! When the World was not as Dangerous as it has become. Thank you for this BACKSTORY to such a Fun FEEL GOOD Story of FANtasy!
When the world wasn't as dangerous?
You need to start learning 20th century history pal.
Very well put.
Galaxy Quest is comfort food for me. When ever I’m feeling down or just want to relax and feel great, it’s my go to.
If it ever plays again at the movie theater I am there!!
There was a scene in Star Trek: Enterprise where the ship was scraped pulling it out of the dock. I loved both takes...Very Well Done.
That was succinctly put and made me feel like I was there in the theater again. And yes to The Orville. Well said, my friend.
@@DonOblivious it's no 'comfort' to you, but yes, it was an amazing moment! We had his view of the doors opening... And they just kept on opening wider and beyond the screen size we'd been looking at! A very rare BIG moment!
Wow! Your wonderful recreation of your experience through words made me feel like I was there with you!
The Orville does come close to the Galaxy Quest feel
My son bought it for me and I loved it. I shall watch it again soon and I am now 78; but still a kid at heart.
Never grow old, age is in your attitude
I have lost count how many times I have watched Galaxy Quest, definitely one of my favorite movies. It never loses it’s charm.
Same, I have watched this movie countless times.
The cast is what made this movie so great, every character in this movie was acted superbly. My favorite character is all of them.

"It never loses it’s charm." XACTLY!!!
I watch Galaxy Quest on repeat. It had just the right amount of everything.

I luv it when you look at me like that 😻🥰

Both were great, and not everything else they've done would necessarily fit into "great acting."
Galaxy Quest has been one of my very favorite movies since I first saw it. Not in theaters, but a couple years later on VHS (remember that?) from a video store (remember those?). Got my own copy as soon as humanly possible.
Great point about Rickman "...delivering perfect comedy and perfect drama with the same line by the same character in the same movie". Great perception, well put.
BY GRABTARS HAMMER !! my favorite line for HP6
@@achimdemus-holzhaeuser1233I have used “By Grabthar’s Hammer” in comments having nothing to do with Galaxy Quest. It always works.

I won a free ticket to this one. There were only a hand full of people in the theater watching this.. Strangers, but we had soo much fun together. It was awesome.
I enjoyed Galaxy Quest and am glad it has finally gotten the recognition that it deserved.
I took my 8 year old son to the screening at a small cinaplex. I was blown away by the film. It is still one of my very favorite films. If i happen to catch a broadcast, it doesn't matter where in the run I see it. I am hooked until the credit roll. Thank you for the memories your documentary has evoked
"i've got one job on this ship, it's stupid, but I'm going to do it!" love that line!
I've used this line a number of times at work. Mostly when I'm talking about someone else, but sometimes for myself as well.

no matter how many times i watched the movie, i never once thought of Tony Shaloub's character as being a stoner, i had always thought of him as being just one of those types that is completely relaxed and nothing ever worries him.
On the other hand, as a stoner m'self, I understood perfectly.
Also, whenever they introduce him as Fred Kwan he squints his eyes, giving the Asian eyes effect.

agreed! lets see a re release of galaxy quest instead of a sequel
I saw it in the theater. I am a big Star Trek fan and Galaxy Quest was made for me. I loved the Thermians and Alan Rickman... It was a movie just for me. I don't know that I want a sequal. It had no equal.
I trust Tim Allen to shun wokeness in a sequel. I also want to see more Sigourney Weaver and Tim Allen, married (not divorced)
He also kinda look like The 80s William Shatner Kirk 😂
Hair style facial expression quite similar ✳️😂✳️🌈♒✨
When a documentary about a comedy that made you laugh your ass off makes you laugh your ass off, you know that there is enduring gold right there.
Great work, guys.... Here's hoping it gets added to the 25th anniversary DVD.... At least, I hope there's going to be an anniversary release.
There is a full length documentary that goes more in depth.
This movie is a gem. Its a fan film.
That's called the Droste Effect, I think.
@@buckmurdock2025 certainly fits the description. :D
You guys really KNOCKED IT OUT OF THE PARK with this one, guys!!! Congrats! This was almost as fun as the movie itself!
Thanks Chappy!

"I see you managed to get your shirt off."
That scene never fails to get a huge lump in my throat. One of the saddest scenes in a film EVER! 😢😢
Saw this with my best friend, randomly at a theatre. Laughed our asses off. One special feature on the DVD was the audio option to watch the entire movie in the Thermian language 🤣
Wha??! In Thermian ?! Nooo! That's not available on my DVD and now I'm very unhappy😤
I loved this movie!!! A hidden gem! I've only seen it once..but have never forgotten it. ❤

Love Galaxy Quest, saw it in the cinema and have seen it at least once a year since its release. Simply priceless.

Galaxy Quest: Next Question
I believe my Kirk and Spock were 1st series, 2nd revision (I don't remember metal-vs-plastic joint hinges, but the phasers, communicators, and tricorder look right.)

Happy to say I adored this movie since the moment it came out. Tim Allen is one of my personal favorite actors. Reminds me so much of my dad.

I loved this movie and didn't even realize it was "a love letter" to Star Trek fans. Now I love it more! I so wish they would do a sequel .
NO! Hollywood would RUIN this thing like they're ruining everything else they put their woke hands on. After Hollywood goes bankrupt and that whole thing turns to dust - maybe then, someone with talent will make something as good as Galaxy Quest.
from a long-time Trek and Star Wars fan: Hadn't until now made the connection to Trek, but I think you've got something here. Good job!
PS: I have this on a VHS tape I bought when the movie first came out. The old VHS machine has started eating tape, so I'll need to upgrade to another format soon. I have no intention of losing access to this film...

This was a great video, way in detail. I love this movie, didn't know about until I bought on DVD. Total fan, I could not stop laughing when I first seen this movie. All the actors were A++, this movie is a classic.
Galaxy Quest is such a fantastic tribute to Star Trek and the Fans...
The opening 45 seconds gave me goosebumps and made me want to go watch this movie again. I haven't seen it in probably 15 years but it's so great!
They would have had to make the sequel 20 years ago. It wouldn't capture the same magic now.
OMG what a great breakdown!!! I love that movie and would love a part 2!!! Let's make it happen!
In the early 1980s I was a roommate of David Howard
who wrote the story for Galaxy Quest.
btw this showing was at the Northgate Theater in Terra Linda, CA
Bought it on VHS in 2001 from my local video store here in England. I also bought a packet of Marlboro reds and a four-pack of Carlsberg Special Brew because I was classy ;). Yeah, I still remember what I bought. It pissed on all the Star Trek and new (at the time) Star Wars movies. I don't want a sequel or a series, that's how important this movie is to me. Still have the VHS tape and only watch the movie every five years.
Wow this will be great. I love 50 year old Sigourney Weaver in this movie. I don’t want any new galaxy quest movies or tv
Not without Alan Rickman. No thanks.
@@scottdoesntmatter4409Oh please. You don’t have to bring politics into everything. Star Trek itself was at the forefront of “inclusion and diversity”.
Wrong. @@therealjetlag
@@scottdoesntmatter4409 No, you’re wrong.
This is simply the best retrospective of anything Hollywood - anything - I have ever experienced, Scalzi & Redshirts notwithstanding.
Never give up. Never Surrender.
Okay, guys, this video has me in happy tears... I love this movie so much. Thank you for making this video!
Our pleasure!
Alan Rickman & Tony Shalhoub stayed with me.
Especially the latter with his line
"get some change ?"
a throwback to his taxi driver character in the 1991 "Quick Change"
& the good Alan Rickman steals the show without even trying.
