NEW Aston Martin DBX First Drive Review - World's Best SUV?
Вставка
- Опубліковано 5 жов 2024
- This is the new Aston Martin DBX first drive review. Aston's 550hp twin turbo V8 SUV offers class leading head room, leg room and boot space in a design that is to my eyes the best looking SUV ever made! The DBX benefits from 3 cylinder air suspension, a technology allowing it to have a massively broad spectrum of ability both on and off road. Performance is 0-62 in 4.5 seconds and a top speed of 181mph and with the highest power output from it's 48v anti-roll system in the industry, when you show the DBX a corner the chassis stays flat and gives you so much confidence to enjoy a great driving road too. Could this just be the world's best SUV?

Looks great. Like the way they carried over the design, especially to the rear end
I know that it might not, but I REALLY want this to work out for Aston
If Maserati can do it, Aston can definitely make it work. Without a doubt.
@@A____G Maserati is not all of 150K. 🤔
Otherwise it will probably be the end..
@@A____G Maserati are selling because they're cheaper. The issue is that it's biting them in the arse because their brand reputation and value is slowly shifting, and if they continue like this, the associated exclusivity and desirability of the Maserati brand will dive, to a point where people won't pay their premiums anymore over other brands like Merc and Audi.
If Aston want to sell similarly, they would most likely compromise their brand value completely.
at 160k i doubt its going to do well. probably end up like recent aston martin’s, heavily discounted within a year
It’s a shame Ford basically ”stole” the front grille design when they owned AM.
The brother of Aston's designer was a designer for Ford...
So correct! I said it on another review of this car. The car would suit a ford badge as well which leaves me feeling baffled
It’s also a shame they once owned such legendary brands like AM,Volvo which they let go and those brands even got better that Ford might have wished they could have held on?
@@vijaysrinivasan6362 Ford also owned Jaguar Land Rover.
@@almac9203 Oh yeah tell me about it - What amazing brands they had under them.
As usual..another great video. Your ahead of the game by a country mile. It's a great looking car. Would like to see it go head to head with the urus
i love this SUV, such a perfect mix of comfort, style, sport and elegance.
Are you buying one? That’s the only time I know you tubers like cars.
It's totally a waste of money buying the Aston
I don't see it a waste of money, probably not your car type or couldn't afford it
@@johnathanwilliams2427 you're right
I've been making a lot lately through crypto which is the main source of my capital in real estate
I'm surprised by how much I actually like the design now. Initially I didn't but in this video it looked great
agreed looks like it would cost the same price as a RR Cul
Indeed, I think it's one of the few new Luxury/performance SUVs that looks good, they really nailed it. But to be fair most Astons are beautiful
Same! It is probably the color that gives it an improved look.
Looks like a kuga
@@DavidTYoung Ford is ripping aston design for years, so rather its Kuga that's looking like an Aston.
The best looking suv in the market and the most spacious one as well it better be because Aston-Martin needs this car to survive and it’s gonna be a great sell
G Wagon: Are You kidding Me hahaha
Now this is exciting 😍 great content yet again James, the production bunker is SMASHING IT 👊👍
James killing it as always. Another great review.
is it an advertisement or a review ? you didn't even mention Mercedes in the whole video 😂
I was thinking the same, he probably got paid for this
Along with the RSQ8. This is now one of my favourite SUV’s. Well played Aston Martin 👌
I saw one on the road in W Yorks about 3-4 weeks ago, maybe a demo.. but oh my it looked even better in person, was awesome, this will surely take the Bentayga & Autobiography customers, maybe even make the Urus & Cullinan prospects think twice..
Could not agree more.
Great video James, as always! Quick question on the braking feel. Not sure if you had the chance to experience it in the wet, considering you had good weather throughout the video (an uncommon situation).
It looks fantastic but I hate the day running lights, they would have been so much better if they were integrated in the headlights. I also feel that in terms of tech it is already behind the competition. Its looks should compensate a bit though.
How come?
I'm not an SUV fanboy, but I want one and I don't know why. Well done James.
Was waiting for your video to come out to get the real review!!! Thank you for being so detailed as always... I’m sold!
A truly spectacular vehicle! Another wonderful video as always James.
This is the interior, and in particular the central interface, the DBS Superleggera should have had. This one looks much better integrated and modern.
What a very well done and detailed review. Thank you for taking the time to get to know the car and great job of articulating your experience with us. This is a FANTASTIC vehicle and I also LOVE the way it looks!
What a stunning car ..absolutely gorgeous.. JWW doing what he does best .. perfectly descriptive video ..informative.. coming up next ...
Urus Vs DBX
Kudos to Aston for the precise borrowing (AMG engine) vs building (platform) decision. This thing is a winner, which in turn will fund the Valkyrie, its Son & then some.. Brilliant job!!!!!
Delay in pressing the paddles and the car actually shifting is crazy like a solid 2seconds
Probably the revs dropped so you couldn’t hear the actual speed of the shift
Manuel It reminds me of my 2007 Acura RDX with paddle shifters......
Fantastic looking, sounds great, iconic brand, what's not to like? I, too would have an issue with the (do not) touch screen, but hopefully the infotainment controls help you forget it. Thanks for the review.
James, you are so good at what you do !!!
They’ve done a fantastic job of the rear end, something Porsche and Bentley have struggled with for years. This is up there with the Urus 👌🏼
Paul Davies The Urus is hideous. This is much better looking. Opinions vary.
fantastic piece of journalism review...well done !!
Hi James
Sounds like you really like the car.
I'm interested to hear why you chose the G wagon for your uber tow car and not one of these?
The channel is great 👍
Why does it always feel that James is auditioning for a ‘loaner’. For another, calmer review, look at Harry’s Garage.
Lesley Dainton
Yup Harry is a class act
No one else could get me watching combine harvesters 😂
Great review for a beautiful SUV in the market. When you look Sideview it is stunningly gorgeous. The interior is so elegant no fancy design or materials used. I love the coupe like design of most SUVs now a days, it's very sporty looking car.🏎🏎🏎
This car really looks like something zagato would have designed
Now that you mentioned it...it does!
Aston with a foglight = zagato?
Something tells me you liked it. Brilliantly presented, and very immersive. Really chuffed for Aston Martin, they deserve it and fair play to them for investing in Britain.
The back is sexy and the panoramic roof is beautiful but the front isn’t aggressive enough and needs a larger grill in comparison to it’s body size. Also those daytime running lights where only fog lights or air vents should be need to be moved to inside the headlights.“Best looking SUV ever made”? Huge stretch, but good review.
Came across the DBX on some back roads round Silverstone a few times while I was studying there. Looked a beast in person but did have the camo wrap on at the time.
Definitely my favourite suv. I also enjoy the fact they marqueted as a truly SUV, not just like a big sports car, which I feel other companies have done.
The best DBX review of ALL the ones I've watched!!! By far!!!
This is gorgeous. Can't wait to see them around here. So many Astons in my area. Do you think it can rival the Urus and Levante?
I think it looks far better than the Lamborghini Anus.
Levante feels cheap inside, Urus felt cheaper than Q8 inside
Levante is way cheaper and you feel it. It's not a competitor for the DBX. The Urus could be, but it appears to be aimed at a different crowd. Maybe it's better to compare it with a full spec Porsche Cayenne Turbo instead, maybe the Bentley Bentayga and some other more luxury/classic oriented SUVs that previously didn't really have any competition from the more sporty SUV alternatives from Lambo, Audi, etc.
Love it . It has now become my no1 dream car . Can’t wait to see these on the road . Love the channel
Thumbs up for not using touchscreen in cockpit👍 Thumbs down for those silly located gear selection buttons 🤦🏻♂️ Otherwise good locking and I would choose it over Audi/BMW/Mercedes every time.
Aston’s steering wheels look so dated. Still love everything Aston are doing though
Just because it doesn't look like every other new VAG wheel doesn't make this look outdated
Agreed - the wheel is looking a bit dated now and doesn't really match the dynamic visual and spiritl of the car.. they should take some elements of the porcshe wheels and blend it into their design language. Hopefully they revise in near future
It looks 10x better than most modern attempts at "visionary" wheel designs
@Maverick to a degree many parts are straight from Mercedes, such as the infotainment and control unit, and other minor stuff. I agree that in general it feels a bit too "young and trendy" rather than exquisite like the old models. The wheel in the DBX is cool, better than some of their other new steering wheels. Still I agree the older generation was better, especially the DB9 era.
It’s just the middle section I can never quite get on with, it doesn’t look correctly proportioned but it is design and subjective after all
It would be interesting to do a comparison with an a Mercedes GLC63 AMG since the Aston pretty much uses AMG's engine and drive train.
Great looking SUV with the right kind of performance to match the heritage and I agree the screen needs to be touch based when available
Interior is a generation behind, and why can't Aston build out their own entertainment software? Using previous gen Merc is poor for the cost.
I agree - it isn't even if they have tried very hard to hide it - I had this low grade tech in a ten yr old CL - Mercedes are good at passing off old tech - Lexus? - And errr Racing Point?
I agree the interior seems to be outdated
Maybe it's optimized for AM. It does what it needs to do in all circumstances. MB coupes and limousines don't do off-road driving, AM suv does and it has these functions in the software. Don't watch the last generation thing. The interior is beautiful and practical. It's not a Rolls-Royce.
The funny thing is the Mercedes g class also uses the same infotainment system as this they don’t have the latest mbux on the g class
As usual, top quality video. 👍🏻👍🏻
Content been great keep it rolling bros
This car wipes the floor in my view. Completely unique and bespoke. True British engineering at it's best. Only comment is on the engine - shame AM could not find a British, rather than German one, their own or even a Rolls Royce.
Can it crawl over rocks like the Defender, or is it only capable on dirt roads? Don't get me wrong, 'Love the brand. I've just been hoping for years for Aston Martin to have their own SUV, and here we have it finally.
I still wished we live in a world without SUVs - but since that's not happening, I can acknowledge that this is the most beautiful SUV.
What are your sunglasses?
I love them, always see you’re using them for driving.
Persol I believe
Probably Carrera
Yeast. I always wanted to know the brand of the shades that new is wearing.. pls do enlighten us..
Yeast. I always wanted to know the brand of the shades that new is wearing.. pls do enlighten us..
This Aston Martin SUV suits you well mate hope you ordered one. Thanks for this awesome breakdown.
I love anything Aston Martin does. They are probably my 2nd favourite car company besides Lamborghini.
I really hope this is a success for Aston Martin. Nice review bud.
Brilliant ! a note of concern ( to me) is that of the complexity of their air suspension system. Simply having that many components means that there are that many components that can stop working properly. Since they are interdependent, one part going down means the rest are sure to follow...thoughts?
I think it is the best looking SUV too, BUT I think it has a lot curves and don't look as aggressive as it should be, should be more lines like a DBS. I also love how the Jaguar F-Pace looks
Imagine an Aston Martin Dbx Superlegera with the carbon fibre brakes, V12 engine, 700hp tune, & a super SUV Superlegera suspension tune.
Good thing u didnt hit a sheep 🤣🤣🤣 no sheeps were hurt during this video 🤣🤣🤣
I think the plural of sheep is...well sheep :)
Looked at the thumbnail first and thought to myself "that is a huge Ford Focus" :D
Aston should've build this as an all-electric vehicle.
Looks like the band in the bar in Star Wars.
that rear is just an eyesore. They really need to facelift that as one of the revisions for the mk.2.
Great content though James William Walker!
that full name is news for me mate. "JWW" makes sense to me now
I’m waiting for a video where you are driving a 765LT. Is it November or September they are being delivered to the first owners?
I was dubious but now I think they've done a good job. I think it easily beats the Bentayga which i still think looks like a London black cab.
JWW, You're killing it!
I'm not a big fan of the suv trend overall but AM did a really nice job with the DBX! I'm glad they didn't take the easy route and just rebadge a Mercedes suv. The DBX seems to fit into the brand very nicely, I'm just bummed that they kicked out the rapide to make room for it.
I live in Muscat, Oman btw and I swear I thought I saw a dbx in that colour
Seems like a great product apart from the rear styling...the rest of the car is beautiful
This is so much cooler than a Urus in my opinin! an Emeral Green paint job with a Saddle interior would look killer
Beautiful suv! Did you not want it as your suv for towing instead of the Urban G class??
This SUV looks really nice. Aston Martin nailed it with their design, comparing Bentayga or Urus, this Aston by far most attractive one. But come on man, mentioning the engine being an AMG does not make it less British. Just give some credit.
Lovely looking car. I really hope it sells well. It needs to be a commercial success for Aston Martin to survive.!
That should be your new family car/ daily driver 😍😍👍🏻
Very nice car and Aston Martin stands for quality. Beautiful roads also and you are always well dressed 👍 stay safe 🙏
Ask all people in the world: An aston Martin would get the most votes - by far.
It's Classy and Gorgeous 😍 can't wait to see Seb Vettel coming to the track in it 😎

Best of the new DBX reviews.
Mr JWW you have one of the best thumbnails in the whole youtube car community.
the view of the rear really leaves something to be desired for me. should have brought the roof line further back and began the taper further back as well providing more cargo room.
Love the glass roof but can you get these trucks with dual pane glass moonroof allows you to have a glass roof and slide the front panel open
Why don’t you test it on the bunker track? Just to see how it goes on sport mode.
Seems exceptional in all ways! I'd love to take it for a romp on some of the primitive mountain and mine roads I frequent in southern Arizona. But the reality for mere mortals like me is, that car is made of unobtanium. At least I can dream about it.
Easily one of the best looking Presitge 4X4 SUVS on the market with the URUS (I would of thought this would be priced at well over 200k) in my opinion
Looks like a Ford Focus on steroids and I like it.
One expensive ford focus
@@benkirkham2017 well, if it is like the Rapide, soon you can buy at a huge discount.
Like terrific. Flat side profile looks just like the jag suv but that’s no bad thing. The rest of the angles elevate it to classic Aston Beauty 🙂
Great review👍 How does the driving feel compared to Cayenne’s (i.e., brakes, Tiptronic gears, etc)?
Looks great but how much of the DNA is now AMG..? Not a bad thing, but would the GLE 63 coupe be a better buy...?
Literally betting the business on its success. Good luck to AM.
I saw a DBX driving locally to me about 2 weeks ago, on a 20 plate and left hand drive?!
I have to say,you nailed the review.
I feel as if I have also driven and lived with the DBX.
In fact I would go as far as to say, other than a compression bump test, you have out harry'd the legend that is Harry Metcalf.
Thankyou James.
🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
I beg to differ about best looking SUV. That award still goes to M164 gen Merc ML63, and it has best sounding NA engine too. I like your enthusiasm for this AM but as much as I want to like it I'm not sure I am enamoured by it just yet.
I'll have to drive it to determine whether I should trade in my Vantage and my Volvo on one car, but I like it so far.
How can I get my hands on those sunglasses man? I've been watching for years now and I can't find anything like those anywhere.
They are tom browne or something like that
They're around 1k pounds on the Tom Browne website
@@ryliek6832 What are they called?
@@A____G TB808 I think
Love your work J
Brilliant stuff as ever
I LOVE this car but hate the spoiler half down the bootlid with a passion...
Rear end collision would be a nightmare in this one. It practically has no bumper. Expect a humongous repair bill even for a soft one. I don't understand why a lot of cars nowadays have those barely there bumper designs.
How the heck they managed to cram all that goodness into this 🤯😎
AM looks wonderful and i believe you had a great experience driving it, BUT my honest opinion is: at the same time the car cannot be sedan, SUV, coupe, GT, off-roader, sport's car, family car etc...it has to fail in some segment.
Cars should be either GT, coupe's, sedans or SUV's. If you compare it with cooking, too many ingredients are spoiling the taste.
thanks for this amazing content
Would be great to do a review of supercar values and depreciation. Seems like things in UK are trying to normalize.
Great video BUT please can you change your microphone, your videography is amazing but the sound is just lacking
