    Aww, Im so glad you got to see the elk herd! I lived in Tillamook County for 16 years and saw TONS of them up Hwy 6 and out at the Blimp Hangar Air Museum. You wondered what else we could see that day as you headed straight into Sasquatch country! Hey, it could have happened!

    These videos take me back to my childhood. I used to take this trip every summer. Thanks for the time-machine memories.

    Trees of mystery was there in the 70s but it was just a trail though some huge redwoods, now they have the SkyTrail gondola ride through the redwood tree tops

    I used to live in Eureka and I miss the coast. Back in 1964 Crescent City was hit by a tsunami caused by a massive earth quake in Anchorage Alaska. At the time it was the only tsunami to hit the lower 48 states. There were some fatalities, but I can't remember how many. There were huge floods in northern Cali back in 1964 too. You can see high water marks along the avenue of the giants

    Hi Russ Thank U Soo much for naming the little towns along Route 101, feels like we're in the Van with You. Our dream, 101 Oregon Coast. Who knows maybe this September. Aloha

    Hey before you get to town there is a state park on the left where Humboldt road meets 101, there is bathrooms,parking,beautiful beach access and up the road there is a lookout point with a nice view of the Crescent City area. We also have a large herd of elk here and are often blocking the road in the park, talk about up close! Good job on the videos and safe travels, that morning mist is a common thing in a redwood rain forest.

    Hi Russ ! Vegas still looks like Vegas ! That's why I am so happy to be tagging along your journey in Northern Calif. and Oregon ! What a breath of fresh air ! The Elk were just having a casual time and, didn't seem to be bothered by you filming them. Did I say Filming ? What Film ! LOL ! The days of the past. This reminded me of my Salmon Fishing days up there. See you in Oregon next time. Stay Healthy and Happy... Travel safe .. Talk soon ! ;)

    When you get to Reedsport, OR, be sure to go about 1-2 miles on hwy 38 to the Dean Creek Viewing Area, before you head north on 101. Protected area for a beautiful herd of Elk.

    Crescent City was devastated by the 1964 Alaskan earthquake. It was a 9.4! It wiped out Valdez and then it rolled down the cost and wiped out the downtown section of Crescent City. All that big open park area you see on the right on your way to the lighthouse is where the old town used to be. They never rebuilt down there because they were afraid it might happen again so the left it as a big open space.

    Hope you remembered your Oregon passport. Tom McCall, “Come visit us again and again. This is a state of excitement. But for heaven’s sake, don’t come here to live”. Watch out for “sneaker” waves.

    • @DannyB-cs9vx
      @DannyB-cs9vx 5 років тому

      For those not knowing, there can be a half dozen or more small waves hit the shore, then when you are standing there a large one will come and take you off your feet and maybe out to sea.

    • @tazmod7272
      @tazmod7272 5 років тому +1

      DannyB1954 : Every year we lose people due to the waves on the Oregon coast. Also people standing on large washed up logs or trees get caught by the waves.

      @@tazmod7272 yes. I was trying to explain to people not near an ocean what a sneaker wave was.
