      That's the McCullough bridge. We all call it the north bend bridge. It's at the north bend of the coos bay. Which is what they ended up calling the town after north bend (The town you come into after going over the bridge) then you come to the town of Coos Bay. It use to be called Marshfield in the days before 1940. The high school is still called that. When you say getting lost. I tell people, think about the end of the earth. Then we are 50 miles past that! Lived in the area for 61 years so far. Live on the backside of ten mile lake. Not a bad place to live.

    $3.35 for gas?!? Geez! That's 50% more than here in Texas. Don't run low on gas in Oregon. Since you can't pump your own, many small town stations close in the evenings. I got stranded one night because of that.
    I worked in Coos Bay at the TV station in the 90's. I miss that place. Thanks for the tour.

    I kept yelling, turn at that big pile of chips! but you didn't hear me. :-) If you're back there again turn on Newmark St. and you'll have a straight shot to Walmart on the left. Then you take a left out of Walmart and another straight shot to Empire Blvd. and take a left. I'll bet the campground is down that road. (I was there this summer. LOL!)

    Hi Russ, Bill Tingley here from the UK. I noticed at 4:18 in this video on the right an old Steam Railway Engine and a Sign saying "Oregon Coast Historicsl Railway" ! Old Steam Railways[USA RailRoads] are one of my interests and I wonder if you might have some more info on this Railroad? It looks like it might have been a narrow gauge logging railroad originally. Great video and getting lost was so funny lol

    • @MaxZomboni
      @MaxZomboni 5 років тому

      TheAmpfixer The railroad is Coos Bay Rail Link, formerly a Southern Pacific Railroad branch line. The steam engine is Coos Bay Lumber Company Locomotive #104. It's a 1922 Baldwin Steam Locomotive. It operated in Coos Bay and elsewhere on the Oregon Coast until being replaced by diesels. I don't think it is narrow gauge, but I could be wrong. It's restored for display now. I hope that helps. There is quite a bit of information about it with Google.

    Haaa... it happens, It was the moment you said: "I wonder what is in those tanks..." at the 6:40 mark, you should have turned left to go to Walmart...
    Good Luck on your travels up the coast...
    Here's some trivia for you, 95% of all trees from where you are up the coast [between the 101 and the Ocean] that are on or near the sand dunes, were planted by MAN, between the years of 1904 to 1928... give or take a few years... why? To stabilize the sand dunes, and to keep sand from flying away...
    Law of unintended consequences, you can't see the ocean or sand because of the trees!
    Man changed and altered the landscape for ever, and not to the good...
    Stop by the Reedsport Forest Service office, and learn how our wonderful government screwed with the coast over the years...
    I love trees.... But I love me dunes, and nature [a natural site] more...

    LOL. 6:39 is where you should have turned for Walmart, or at any of the signs for Charleston. I guess the Coos Bay Area is a little confusing. The first couple of years that I lived in this area, I missed more than a few turn offs. Now I know all the landmarks, so it's not a problem. I have never seen them float logs down that river. I guess they could, but they seem to prefer to use log trucks. I don't even notice the wood smell anymore. I guess I'm just used to it.
