Russ you’re a hoot! We have enjoyed you for a few years now. So a friendly wee bit of a critique. I’m from WA but also lived on the Oregon North Coast for awhile. I grew up just north of here in Pacific County. So I watched you crossing the Astoria-Megler Bridge. I had a family member who was a WA State Senator who was the lead in getting the Bridge built. And my parents crossed it one time after agreeing to carry back on the top of their truck, a mattress some folks they knew from their small town bought who happened to be shopping at Costco in Warrenton, Oregon that day. (no sales tax!) Anyway, as my parents crossed a big side wind came up and blew the mattress off their truck when they were about midway back to the WA side. To date, I can never not see my parents s out of their truck trying to rustle this mattress back on! This scene plays in my mind every time hubby & I cross. 😜 My next best memory was traveling across the bridge in our Class A Allegro MH at the very same time THE Exxon Valdez (later known for the big Alaska oil spill fame) was sailing up right underneath us as we were on the highest part! Talk about cool! Another pretty cool memory. I think that experience crossing on the bridge was about the best. We had seen the Exxon Valdez moored in Astoria for quite awhile. Obviously before it’s terrible voyage into Prince William Sound. The Captain probably shared many a drink at the Astoria Red Lion bar back in the day. With all that said, we noticed that on your way over to your next stop in WA you referred to the State Park as “Camp Disappointment.” I’m glad you finally saw it was CAPE not Camp. Then you took us to the “intrepid” center. That is actually the Interpretive Center. It is named Disappointment from a British Trader named John Meares who thought the headwaters were a bay and not a river. Was he ever in for a surprise! The hardest part about the Cape is how many mariners have died at the Columbia bar entrance there at Illwaco. That is where a big training unit resides for the US Coast Guard. Very treacherous waters. Keep on truckin’ Russ!
What a beautiful area! The view of the lighthouse on that coast was just amazing! I'm sure you will figure out what you want to do. I am just here to enjoy your journey! Safe travels!
Excellent video. Love those overlooks, and lighthouses. Beautiful views with the drone. Definitely not a disappointment. I wouldn't ever pay that much for one night to camp. Thanks so much for taking us along. 😊👍👍
If you plan on camping in Washington you need to buy the Discovery Pass for $35. It will save you a lot of money. We use the Pass to visit all the day use areas during the day then find a free boondocking area to spend the night. Washington Parks are expensive and not nearly as nice as Oregon Parks. I am a Washington resident and we don’t get any breaks. Would love to have a meet up in Eastern Washington.
This is one of my favorite places on the Washington coast, last time I was there the restoration was almost done. The cliff straight in front of your van when you parked with the lighthouse on top is aplace of awesome pictures when the king waves hit in the winter.
Wonderful series. A great addition would be a look at a map showing the area you are exploring and maybe current gas prices. I'm hoping you continue north. If this were California everyone would be complaining about the need for that pass.
Great video, you couldn't have asked for better weather. It rains about 80% of the time there. If you ever go back, be sure to visit Beard's Hollow, just down hill from the first viewpoint you visited. The other place with a great view is Bells Overlook, near the North Head lighthouse.
Hey Russ..there are lots of spots to camp in that area. One of my favs is headn back towards Oregon just outside of Chinook. I think it's right outside of Ft Columbia St Park. Nice spot right by the water..taken some amazing sunset photos there.
Did I hear you mention the Columbia River? We just got back from Washington, Oregon and back to So Cal a couple of weeks ago. We drove hwy 14 on the Washington side of the river towing our travel trailer. Being that it was only a two lane highway (one lane each way) we constantly had to pull over for fast moving big rigs that rode my bumper! The highway on the Oregon side of the river is much more civilized.
🙋Hi Russ! Welcome to beautiful Washington state! I sure am enjoying watching your trip. Can’t wait until we get to know where you will go next. I am just east of Seattle it’s pretty here too. If you get to Eastern Washington you’ll see it’s really different from Western Washington. This is really fun! 👏
Russ, if you are heading North on 101 you should stay at a federal campground called South Beach. $15.00 a night. No hook ups but lots to see in the area. Safe travels.
We are trying to get caught up as for some reason our TV only shows part of your videos before it freezes. Jumped to this video to say I am donating as I want you to head north in Washington. Our beaches aren't nice but the Olympic National Forest and Park is beautiful
New subscriber here. Really enjoying your videos. Just bought my first RV... I am originally from East coast. I know its a long trip. However coasts... the east coast is amazing. Completely different style of coast lines. Amazing fishing as well and killer food. Great towns from Maine to Miami. See everyone out there.
John Hines same for Idaho. Next door neighbor logged into the Idaho site for a park up in the northern part of the state as soon as they were taking reservations and he still couldn’t get one.
I was told that many of the early west coast lighthouses were located high-up by east coast staff. They had no idea about the low fog so most of the lighthouses were useless to ships.
KOA near Fort Stevens State Park west of Astoria was at $80 per night for full hook ups the last time I checked. Couldn’t believe it. That was towards the middle of July.
The first lighthouse is North Head, the second lighthouse, with the big stripes, is Cape Disappointment. When you were at the boat ramp, how did you miss the world-famous Cape Disappointment Coast Guard station/Motor Lifeboat school? You were lucky to have a camping slot made available to you. Those slots go up for sale 6 months in advance and are sold out in minutes every year. They are very difficult to get. That place is extremely popular, hence WA state prices.
You missed an epic view of the marsh at Beard's Hollow from the overlook. It's a really short hike, and worth the effort. And how did you completely miss the Lee Harvey Allen bunkers?!? They're freaking amazing, and they've got a ton of story boards!!!
State Parks in Washington are awful to get into. You literally have to do it as soon as booking opens, 9 months in advance. I keep looking for a cancellation but nothing.
Good Morning Russ.... I've got my coffee in hand, let's watch this video... I always wave back :) I really enjoy the drone shots too. Thanks for sharing, Lo
Hi Russ ! I've been cleaning junk and clutter out of my studio and, bedrooms.. Garage etc... I am find that less is more !! Ha ! Gee... Maybe I am ready for full time RV living... Well.. drive safe.. curious where you plan to go from here.. Talk soon.
Your video is exceptionally clean .... sharp and like we are there..... I am still wondering what camera equipment that you use ..... Thanks for sharing your journey ...... !!!
I just have to say how cool it is to watch the drone taking off and landing - almost have cool as the arial views! Keep up showing the take offs and landings - please! 😀
I enjoy the lighthouses. Always fun to photograph and see them. Too bad about the campground and ouch $50.00. I'd be looking for something else too. Happy trails.
Hey Russ !🙋♀️"Named for Captain John Meares' first thwarted voyage to find the Columbia, Cape Disappointment is steeped in Northwest history. This is the place to explore U.S. military and maritime legacies and to experience the story of Lewis & Clark and the effect of their Corps of Discovery Expedition on Native American tribes." "Cape Disappointment is a 2,023-acre camping park on the Long Beach Peninsula, fronted by the Pacific Ocean and looking into the mouth of the Columbia River. The park offers yurts, cabins and unique historic vacation homes to meet travelers' diverse lodging needs."
Got to agree $50 is a little too much for a state park. They must be trying to fill their coffers. Washington is getting to be an expensive place though.
Lol i thought u were saying the state park was a disappointment but thats the name of it ! ! Such beautiful land you travel across i gotta head up that way some day..funny they need a elevator ...lov your videos they are so peaceful in this crazy loud world ...gonna get one of your stickers ..dang all that drift wood is so cool..thanks for the road trip they always put a smile on my face your road trips ...gonna get u a cup of coffee and one of your T-shirt’s next week..happy trails to you
Beautiful weather for sure, makes for a great day. Nice photography Russ. Maybe some day you can put your travels on DVD 📀 and sell them that way. Haha 👍 thanks & happy trails
You are supposed to take the rock and leave it somewhere else. It's been a big thing for awhile now. Had you turned it over, it would have had the town it was painted in on the back. You go to the indicated website and post that you found it.
karl Depending n the time of year you will need reservations for the ferry also. Too many people not enough space and with the ferry system not enough boats either.
Great video! You are like me Russ. I get up early and have most things done by 10:A.M. I always told my kids I get more work done by noon, than most people do in two days! ;)
It's interpretive, not intrepid. I noticed you missed the turn to left for the campground. Also $50 per nigh for full hookups is a good price for WA, and in the future, if you want to camp in WA during the high/summer season, you will a reservation, of course, you may get lucky, but planning ahead is helpful. I just came back last month from a camping trip to Cape Disappointment and I think it's one of the best state parks for outdoor activities I've been to, but they definitely need to upgrade the restrooms/showers in the camping area.
The first 10 seconds you pass my house lol , you can’t see it in the video because you clipped it but there’s a firewood sign down that road is my place🙋🏻♂️
Russ I am 61 years old and never seen a lighthouse. Thank you for taking us along. Great videos. Might be time to hit freecampsites.net or find the nearest Eagles lodge. When they tell you they have 1 site for $50.00 ask them if they have any free sites beyond the paid campground, You might get lucky.
The first Lighthouse is North Head and the one to the South is Cape Disappointment. My husband and I camp hosted this place for 2 months.
I love the sea shore of the Northwest. Thanks for sharing.

Those ocean overlooks are really nice to watch the giant surf breaking when the Pacific Ocean is still angry after a storm passes.
I really like the simplicity and freedom of mobility that you have with your van. If I were single, I’d do the same.
If you plan on camping in Washington you need to buy the Discovery Pass for $35. It will save you a lot of money. If you go during low tide, get on the beach... you can walk around the rocks to see a sea cave
The air looks so crisp and clean. Love it. You don't see that much in Ca.

OMG what a beautiful view at the lighthouse. Perfect morning and you have had so many amazing days on this trip. Thanks Russ. Cheers!!!
Dunno why Americans go to the Dominican Republic, right?

Most state parks in summer you need reservations... Preferably 6 months in advance.. Washington to many people, not enough camping.
John Hines same for Idaho. Next door neighbor logged into the Idaho site for a park up in the northern part of the state as soon as they were taking reservations and he still couldn’t get one.
It looks like you got a window of good weather.
I was told that many of the early west coast lighthouses were located high-up by east coast staff. They had no idea about the low fog so most of the lighthouses were useless to ships.
Good trip Russ. Can't wait for Quartzite to open again!
Beautiful place! Nice place to Camp out!!! Thanks ..

Havent been to cape disappointment since 2020 so thank you for this!
We stayed there in a year and had to deal with raccoons stealing attempting to Stew our coolers not cool the rest of it was absolutely cool
Another cool video thanks bro
Thank you Russ! Its beautiful!
State Parks in Washington are awful to get into. You literally have to do it as soon as booking opens, 9 months in advance. I keep looking for a cancellation but nothing.
Never a disappontment
On the Olympic Peninsula I had good luck with Forest Service Campgrounds. Good luck!

The only disappointment for me is I have to go in to work after watching this excellent video!! Thanks Russ!!
Jess Carey Yeah like you're the only one being incarcerated in work jail today!!!!
@@jonmacdonald5345 never implied that. Have a nice day!

I do painted rocks and would love to see one of mine end up in Washington! Would have been really cool for him to have picked that painted rock up
Great video, thanks for sharing!
Best Washington State Park. Orca's Island campground. Take Washington State ferries to the island. It leaves north of Seattle. Reserve if you can.
karl Depending n the time of year you will need reservations for the ferry also. Too many people not enough space and with the ferry system not enough boats either.
Great video! You are like me Russ. I get up early and have most things done by 10:A.M. I always told my kids I get more work done by noon, than most people do in two days! ;)
Getting as far north as you possibly can and then go east close to the Canadian border, that would be an interesting journey.
awesome view of the lighthouse thanks russ , we are enjoying all you videos , travel safe
It's interpretive, not intrepid. I noticed you missed the turn to left for the campground. 5:28 - Sign says original GPS but I can't read the rest - anyone know what it says?
What a beautiful country! So neat!
BEAUTIFUL! 👏👏👍
Welcome to Wa.
Beards Hollow, was there 3 years ago.................looks the same.
Boy I wish you could stay on that road all the way north.
Not even a tent area to use?!
My favorite spot so far I think (cape disappointment)...thank you
seems like every place you go thats nice you have to walk would be hard for me since i have trouble walking
It only took 3:28 for him to make the inevitable pun.
Really love the videos I fill like I'm right there with you. Washington state is on my bucket list?
Beautiful thank you for sharing
Waved back Russ I need to make a trip out west someday have to put it on my bucket list.

The first 10 seconds you pass my house lol , you can’t see it in the video because you clipped it but there’s a firewood sign down that road is my place🙋🏻♂️

Costs not withstanding after Oregon any Washington State Park would be a disappointment
😎👍👍
Your title sucks, Cape Disappointment is full of many wonders.
