Avenue Of the Giants used to be HWY 101 till they put in the freeway in the 70's. Great Video. Love that area. We'll have to drive up from Sacramento to see it again. Never get used to the Tall Redwoods and how it gets so dark driving through.
That avenue of the redwoods used to be US highway 101 back before they put the freeway in. I remember taking that road with my family when I was very young several times in the 50s 60s and early 70s. I still prefer to go that route instead of the boring freeway. Way too many of the wonderful old country roads have been blocked off or destroyed when they were replaced by modern freeways and it's a source of anger for a lot of us. I'm glad this section did not get blocked off or destroyed in the process because there's still some wonderful places to see things to do on this short stretch of old US highway 101.
At the top of the Avenue of the Giants you pass our family grove between Phillipsville and Miranda. We have a nice piece of property until we sold it to Save the Redwood league to save the family grove. Nice place to grow up and go to high school. It has changed a lot since we left in 94. We are going back for a visit in our fifthwheel the 20th of June. Thanks for the vlog.
My eye sight prevents me from traveling (RVing) any more but I really enjoy riding along with you to a lot of places I have been and a lot I haven’t been. . Thanks for the ride, it helps.
That was so cool, waved back at you twice did you see me , your getting into gold country are you going to do any gold prospecting by any chance , that's a lot of camp fire wood there , what river was that , so many guestions , so little time, oh well , sure do love the ride along, safe travels uncle russ
SO COOL I was so happy to see the tree with the labels....... and you stood by a tree...... so you can see it's not a short Oak.... lol thank Russ so enjoy this kind of video.......
Aloha Russell we find hey 101 heading up to crescent City beautiful can you please the names of all areas you pass even if it's just a gas station, rest stop, or tiny Town would really appreciate it a lot ...Mahao Jesse & Eve...🤙
That road is real fun on a motorcycle. A lot of deer at night on parts. I think I even stopped at the same place. Hee, hee. Did the guide tell you how many board feet of lumber that one big tree could produce? Maybe they don’t do that anymore. There will be a quiz after the tour. Happy travels.
When I was a kid, that was still considered Hwy 101. The Hwy 101 bypass had just been built, and things were still being realigned. Every time I go that way, I still insist we drive at least part of the Avenue. I love the tall trees.
Russ, what I would give to be there now! But, the ride along is next best thing! Thank you! It’s been 30 years since I’ve seen that area. I can’t wait to see it again. I’m still trying to find a leak in my Casita!! Then I can head out that way. Texas is really heating up, so I gotta blow this joint, Dude!! Lol
The 101 is a great drive, goes all the way to Port Angeles, Wa, where you can take a ferry across to Vancouver island. Maybe you shouldn't be telling everyone about this.
Russ, thanks so much those giants have been way longer than we will.ever will be. GOD BLESS
Great vid Russ.
