Honestly, the casting for this movie was great, but the script was lacking. Imagine a more serious movie, with Arnold playing Freeze like the Terminator in T2. George Clooney didn't take the role seriously, but he was a great actor and could have made it work in a better movie.
Always loved her in this movie and I’ve always loved this movie, partly because it feels like a live action cartoon. She gave it her all and I always felt like she was the best adaptation of any of the Burton/Schumacher villains. She seemed very much like what I imagined Poison Ivy to be like. It’s just too bad she wasn’t in a better Batman movie.
I must be the only one to love this movie. Uma was great, Alfred was more important to the story compared to others, the song by smashing pumpkins, and the last dialogue between Batman and mr. Freeze was impactful.
I may have to disagree with the topic of her seductions. Whenever we look at her motivations and who she's seducing, it all plays into the greater scheme of the plan. Mister Freeze was as much muscle to her as Bane was, a former rival she saw as useful to her overall scheme. She originally assumed she could use him to further her goals, but learning about Nora made her realized his mind was set elsewhere. Instead of killing Nora off out of jealousy, she'd done it as a manipulation tactic to frame Batman and direct his rage at what she wants him to do. As for Robin, her scheme was all a ruse just to dispose of her main obstacles. She identified Batman and Robin as threats when she met Bruce Wayne in the observatory, and made sure to use her pheromones on them directly to keep them distracted and turned against each other. Even in the end, she had tried to kill Robin even when he'd seemed to turn to her side completely, so we know it wasn't motivated by love. Despite all this, I'm glad that you made this video to show appreciation towards Ivy in this movie, as this was kind of how I became such a fan of hers and of superheroes in general, so this movie means a lot to me, even if it's seen as the worst thing in the world.
If Poison Ivy was manipulating Freeze for her own goals instead of genuinely falling for him, did her goals change from having plants take over the world to freezing all life on Earth? Because the former and latter counteract each other. I always felt either she changed her agenda to appease him or it was a writing mistake.
@GamerSlyRatchet1 She'd explained in her plan that Freeze would be there to destroy the planet so her adaptable plants would regrow from the aftermath. Her nature as a deceiver could mean that she'll trash Freeze the moment he serves his purpose, or they'll be ruling two separate parts of the planet
Batman And Robin is an entertaining ridiculous very campy super hero movie including Batman has a Batman credit card, ice skates for Batman and Robin in their boots, etc.
You're gonna stop with your hate of this movie. I watched it recently and it still holds up even George Clooney as Batman. This movie made me a Batman fan I didn't know better. But it's nostalgic for me I remember having the flu and watching it back to back while I was sick.
@Kilroyiii4644 He had to flex on them. Bruce was so rich he got his own bank with his own credit card design. 😂😂 Nobody can ever make me hate this movie.
I was born in July of ‘95 so the Schumaker Batman movies were my introduction into live action Batman. With B&R being my favorite. I never really thought about how well Uma fit into the role, without compromising the characters motives and behavior, but you’re right. She’s natural in the role and I’d venture to say, the campy, over the top environment is perfect for a villain like ivy. Not to mention, she had baby me in love
i hope in the future they would do another live action version of poison ivy. A comic book/serious/sexy version of her. More into her origin story. Im sure it can be done. I have to honestly say that when I was a kid I liked the poison ivy character in batman and robin. As a 40 year old adult I still do. I appreciate her sexual look more now. I appreciate her look like with cat woman from batman returns.
I love Batman and Robin. It’s one of those so bad. It’s good kind of movies. But Batman and Robin serves an important purpose much like the Out Of West show did. It made such a joke out of the property and ran it so far into the ground that it had to be rebooted for the better. Without the at West Batman show, we would’ve never had the Tim Burton Batman movies. And without Batman and Robin, I’m sure we would have never had the dark Knight trilogy. Batman and Robin is a very important movie in Batman history. And if you can’t put that movie on and just have some fun for an hour and a half and laugh your ass off, then that’s just sad.
I agree that she was one of the best parts of the movie. She is a great actress, and she knew that she was playing an over the top, campy role. Out of the whole cast, she seemed the most 'in on the joke' as far as playing it like one of the villains from Batman 66. Everyone else tried to play their roles a bit more straight.
in my opinion, Uma's Ivy is the third best live action Batman portrayal, hands-down. I put Heath and Jack's Jokers as numbers one and two, and then most of the Alfreds. Arnold could have been a PERFECT Mr. Freeze if he'd played the role like the first Terminator movie's Terminator. And you could maybe redeem Bane if they said something about how he was only acting like that because of Ivy's powers, something like that.
Batman forever and batman and Robin failed at the whole multiple villain formula. Oh who am I kidding lol, batman and Robin was trash regardless. That Clooney head shake 🤦♂️
That's funny as I found her insufferable and made a very bad movie even worse. Nothing against Thurman as an actress but her Poison Ivy was so bad but you could blame the director and writing for most of that.
Out of all the characters in Batman and Robin, she certainly stood out. Her performance was pure campy fun. It mirrored the 1966 TV show. She understood the assignment.
Somebody told me they only bought this movie on VHS back in the day just to masterbait to Uma Thurman LOL LMAO 🤣 😂 😆 I kid you, not somebody told me this
I do like Harley and Ivy, but I also agree with the comics there'd be zero way they'd be... comitted? (The obvious word here is monogamous, but that's *not* what I mean. You can be attached and not monogamous. Ivy is a born comet, as I remember the poly peeps calling it. She exists, and sometimes she's in your obit, and when she is it's a lot of fun, but then she flies off again and trying to stop her will only reduce her chances of intersecting in the future with you.) There's a fun lense of "aro but very much not ace" to view her under. Harley is her BFFWB not girlfriend; they are partners in crime, not romantic partners. Harley is Ivy's One Exception but only to a point; if anyone hurts Harley, Ivy will prune them, but she's just as likely to hurt Harley herself and feel very little remorse. It is only barely a step up from the Joker, for Harley, the only benefit IS the emotional distance and the sheer transparency. Apathetic neglect is easier to survive than malicious control, graded on a very steep curve obviously, and Ivy is nothing if not transparent. Considering her main play is biochemical manipulation, she's weirdly honest in a way the Joker could never be even to himself. "I made you immune to me, as a symbol of my affection" but that only allows Harley to leave, to argue, to say no. It says a lot.
I watched this video about Jack nicholson winning the Oscar for as good as it gets that year and it jokingly showed the other nominees and two of then were: tum Allen jungle 2 jungle and Arnold swarczenegger for batman and Robin. I didn't realize it was a joke at first and was scrambling to confirm that because I thought there was NO WAY Arnold was jointed for that. Tim Allen maybe but Arnold? For this?
I agree with literally everything you've said here. I always saw Ivy as asexual. That sex and romance were just tools in her arsenal. She's at her best when she's written as having evolved beyond humanity, and giving her a love interest just makes her too human.
You actually nailed it! I really loved Uma Thurman's performance as Poison Ivy. She's truly a over the top character on the big screen and small and Uma Thurman just nailed it
Visually the movie looked amazing. Uma did a good job going all in. The push from the studio to keep adding characters and batman himself not being serious hurt the story.
Its what happened with Forever. Jim was all ready over the the top. For 2face to act just as stupid as he did, THREW OFF the BALLANCE. IF Tommy Lee PLAYED THE PART MORE LIKE HIMSELF, THEN, would of brought a BETTER BALANCE. HERE, ARNOLD, BAD CHOICE, UMA, PERFECT. UMA plays her part as if it were GIFTED to her. Arnold is TOO SILLY. IMAGINE IF PATRICK STEWART instead were casted as freeze and ironically.... We would of had a CLOSE to PERFECT FILM.... 😑 and either Tommy Lee could have TONED IT DOWN as 2face people have stuck with his ORIGINAL actor....
Missed this essay when you first released it. Sorry about that, because this was another great one. While I don’t like this movie, I totally agree with your analysis here.
Vee Infuso makes so many videos about Batman and Robin that im starting to think its one of his guilty pleasures. Dont worry bro, a lot of us feel the same.
Mr. Infuso, there is an aweful show that is based on a Marvel Comic called "Nightman". It even has a wrestling episode: S1 Ep13. It isn't good, but you may be able to polish this turd. I think the world of your work.
Her characterisation wasn't just "goofy" it was entirely disingenuous and lacked all verisimilitude. There is a *vast* difference between her portrayal and that of the Ivy in Batman tas or even Harley's show. They play it more natural. It's hard for me as an audience member to relate to her, care for her or understand where she's coming from if there's no humanity in her performance.
Yeah, with this version of the character that’s kinda the point. There’s not supposed to be any humanity in her. There’s not supposed to be nuance, you’re not supposed to relate to her see where she’s coming from or care for her. You’re supposed laugh watching her have a ball hamming it up, and being evil. Then ultimately enjoy watching her get her comeuppance at the end.
@foreverkent2225 Even with that point, I can't enjoy it cos she isn't funny. I've seen actual cartoon villains that are far more entertaining like Elmer Fudd, Yosemite Sam or every villain in the Powerpuff Girls
@ and see I think she is. Whether you find her entertaining is a matter of personal preference. But just because it doesn’t personally land with you doesn’t mean it’s not well done.
@ that’s fair. Perhaps “well done” wasn’t the best way to phrase it. What I meant was in general, personal taste is subjective and isn’t a good barometer for whether or not something is flawed from a technical standpoint. From a technical standpoint she does what she’s supposed to do in the film. Whether or not you find her acting campy entertaining is a matter of personal taste.
While I dont agree with everything in the video, I definitely agree that Uma Thurman as Poison Ivy was the best part of the movie. Instead of whining about her role being too corny, she made the most it, But I'll say something even more controversial than that. I thought George Clooney did a good job too. Not as Batman, but his acting as Bruce Wayne, while not great, wasnt terrible either.
@ i referred to them as friends because canonically that’s what they were. Standards and practices at the time wouldn’t allow for anything passed that. They’ve become a canon couple since then.

Uma's Poison Ivy was seductive, otherworldly and etherial. She was indeed the best part of Batman & Robin!😀😍
Uma was the only one who understood the tone of the movie
Garbage - Dhe World Iz Not Enough
It's nice to know that other people appreciate Uma Thurman as Poison ivy. :D
i do too.
She gave 110% into every corny line she was given. She and Arnold understood the assignment
Uma's Poison Ivy was one of few things I still liked from Batman & Robin. And she was one of my female villain crushes growing up.
*Batman slash Robin
Honestly, the casting for this movie was great, but the script was lacking. Imagine a more serious movie, with Arnold playing Freeze like the Terminator in T2. George Clooney didn't take the role seriously, but he was a great actor and could have made it work in a better movie.
Uma Thurman as Poison Ivy....
"Boner Engaged"
I second that. Giggity.

The Ballroom Dance from Poison Ivy is ICONIC!
She was my favorite part of the movie growing up...for reasons
Poison Ivy was one of my favorite supervillains, despite kissing everyone! I also liked Batgirl.🦇🌿
Much like Uma as Ivy, this video is a stacked 11/10 smokeshow
I must be the only one to love this movie. Uma was great, Alfred was more important to the story compared to others, the song by smashing pumpkins, and the last dialogue between Batman and mr. Freeze was impactful.
It’s a lot of fun, idk why people dislike it so much. I mean, I do, but it works as a silly homage to the 60’s show.

"poison ivy should be colder than mr freeze." I agree.
HE is broken. SHE is pure evil.
Big crush on Uma Thurman when I was 10 thanks to her Poison ivy

Three words: Bat Credit Card.
@Kilroyiii4644 He had to flex on them. Bruce was so rich he got his own bank with his own credit card design. 😂😂 Nobody can ever make me hate this movie.
Nope Batman and Robin will always be the worst live action Batman of all time.
I was obsessed with Uma as Ivy
I loved her in this. It seemed like she took the Animated Series version and just ran with it.
I was born in July of ‘95 so the Schumaker Batman movies were my introduction into live action Batman. With B&R being my favorite. Gotham’s Ivy pepper is the best live action depiction of Ivy in my opinion.
Which one? She's essentially a different person each time they switch to a different actress.
i hope in the future they would do another live action version of poison ivy. A comic book/serious/sexy version of her. More into her origin story. Im sure it can be done. Uma and Arnold’s icy puns. Batman and Robin is awful, but it’s so bad I can enjoy it.

Controversial Opinion: Poison Ivy should have been shipped with Batman. She was originally more like Catwoman, committing crimes to lure Batman.
I watched this video about Jack nicholson winning the Oscar for as good as it gets that year and it jokingly showed the other nominees and two of then were: tum Allen jungle 2 jungle and Arnold swarczenegger for batman and Robin. i remember Batman and Robin fondly, saw it with my dad in theaters

Vee Infuso makes so many videos about Batman and Robin that im starting to think its one of his guilty pleasures. Dont worry bro, a lot of us feel the same.
Let's petition to have Maya Hawke (Uma and Ethan's daughter) play Poison Ivy!
She is the main reason why I keep rewatching this movie apart from the awesome score.
I liked her but it's the rest of the movie I can't return to fairly.
Just one of those things i have to take your word on lol.
This performance is Mae West it's glorious
This was the first movie I’ve ever gone too!!! My absolute favorite other than clueless
I Love The Camp Of Batman & Robin.... I Agree Poison Ivy Is The Best Part Of The Movie.
Mr. Infuso, there is an aweful show that is based on a Marvel Comic called "Nightman". It even has a wrestling episode: S1 Ep13. It isn't good, but you may be able to polish this turd. I think the world of your work.
Like others in the comments, she had me feeling some kinda way growing up.
Tbh I would put this film above Batman Begins and dark knight Rises😅bc I’ve rewatched this one more than those.
Umas Ivy was fantastic!!!!! Everything else was trash! 💋

I love this movie!

Didn't think much. of this movie but after this video I can see what you mean as Uma Thurman being the best part.
You have a green thumb for videos.
ahhh, the reason I got a soft spot for redheads
This was a one woman show.
Joker 2 video?
I think that's poison ivy
Bane was hot.
Yea I’m not seeing it
I think thats poison ivy
💯💯💯💯💯
Oh yeah, unknowingly wronged her in someway. Does actively beating and killing her count as unknowingly?
But all included I think you have a very surface level understanding of Ivy. I’m also not judging the past based on what I know about the future.
