Instacart Shopper Exposes BOTS AT COSTCO- NO BATCHES-Virtual Care Assistant

    Last week, Instacart Shoppers from coast to coast reported the batches were non just about non existent. There is also a change in how we contact chat support. A Chat Support Agent gave me his perspective and reasoning for this, in addition to why Instacart switched to the Virtual Care Assistant. A fellow Instacart Shopper reached out to me with proof of the BOT RINGS operating out of Costco. She provided photographs of these Bot users, along with her conversation she had with a bot user, in this ring. It is maddening Instacart is refusing to address these Bot Rings, and even more perplexing they are putting Costco's customers at risk.
    I am so grateful to this shopper who is helping me bring the bot rings to the forefront, and am also so thankful for this chat support agent who I now consider, a friend.

    There is a Costco in Orlando FL that asks for your id and if it doesn't match the name on your Instacart shopper app, they won't allow you to check out and they call the cops on them. It's not that hard to get these bots off the platform, Costco needs to do this all across the country!

      As it should be! Because who is paying income tax on those batch earnings? Is some poor sucker having their information stolen and used to work and when they file their taxes the IRS is going to want to know why they didn’t claim all of that income. Bots aren’t only shady but they are doing illegal things.

    $530 on Costco order that took me 30 mins to shop and deliver. Customer just ordered over 900 dollars worth medicine. It was the best order ever. Gigspade did this for me

    $209+ $350 cash tip = $559 : 20 bottles of gin, wine, whiskey, rum and vodka. Customer was part of a wedding venue or planner . Definitely wasn't expecting $350 cash tip. Thank you so much Gigspade

    I’ve been getting the “Your area needs you. There are a lot of batches.” Notifications. I go online and there are no batches. 🤣🤣

    There should be a class action suit againt them from every shopper in a zone that is affected by bot shoppers. A suit claiming a multi million dollar loss from vetted shoppers. Furthermore IC can fix this by giving every vetted shopped a unique code to be verified at check out by the cashier that shows a photo and name of the vetted shopper. The only way IC will take this seriously is hit them in the pocket book and very bad publicly.

    i feel like instacart should require you to take a photo of yourself to verify your identity before you begin EACH AND EVERY order. would be annoying. but it sure as hell would take care of the bots!

      Instacart doesn't care as long as the batches are delivered. Gig work would be 10x better if they just cared a little bit.

      they do this randomly. The best way, since these bot rings do not have official accounts, is to use a multifactor authentication. When you go online they text you a 6 digit code you have to enter before you can start to receive batches. And only those who have legitimate accounts will get those codes. Otherwise, you will never see a batch.

    I find it interesting how DoorDash does a cease and desist, to Para, but Instacart allows these bot rings to continue.

      One time I think I caught some bot users at Aldi. I saw a mom and a daughter, frantically scanning items, with at least 3 devices. Was strange.

    Two days ago I was paid $451.62 ( IC $276.72/tip $175. 90) for a 107 items (156 unit) 15.5 mile Full Service batch to an upscale vacation home. Plus she gave me a $80 cash tip!. I broke my max mileage I'm willing to drive rule for that one!. I owe her everything.

    These bots need to go, it’s getting ridiculous out here! I know of people in my area that are using bots because they’re leaving Costco with full flats, but I’m not seeing those batches come up available beforehand. I’m a 5 star shopper (or 100% as the case is now) and although I still do fairly well, I should be doing A LOT better and with less waiting. Has anyone else noticed a correlation between these bot users and their one ear (or two) air pods? I did end up catching someone that had gotten a batch a customer texted and requested I look for. Oddly enough, the person shopping for this batch was not the person listed as having received the batch. No worries though, my Costco is now fully aware of this practice and they’re not happy about it. The store manager launched an investigation at the local level and was even seeking corporate support. We shall see how that turns out.

    One thing the new CEO can do is to partner with Cosco to have them make a policy that states 'no more than 2 batches per person per register per visit.'

      @@DhaneCrowley Exactly. There's a family I see every time I shop a Cosco. The dad stands next to the flatbed cart with a phone and gets a few items nearby. He has his family get the other orders for him. He tells them where certain items go on the cart. I've seen him switch phones with family so they can move to the next batch. I wish I could say something, but we all know how that will end up.

    My highest paying batch was $311 for 62 items 1 customer, Made $1566 that day. I never received an order for more than $60 before Gigspade came into my life so I was definitely freaking out when i accepted it all 🥳🥳

    I sit at home until I see a batch I want to take. It's over 100 degrees out here and I refuse to sit in the heat waiting.

    Has anyone ever thought that the reason instacart doesn't stop the bots is because they are the bots? Weren't they sued for keeping tips from the driver? This wouldn't surprise me with all the other shady things they're doing. If they're not the bots then they're probably getting a kick back for allowing it.

    I'd love to share my experience with a Costco batch .... 24 items, I was allotted 35 mins to finish the order! the order turned out to be 24 items - yes, 24 items of meat and each meat was at least 4 or 5 packages to be weighed individually. I ended up with 2 carts of fresh meat that took me 1 hr and 15 mins- a
    oh and did I mention that they double batched me with 10 items. my customer for the meat reduced my tip and was not happy I'd taken longer than instacart had told them I'd be. my tip was reduced by 30$ and my time per item increased by 15 seconds. so so so so angry

    You're awesome! Another thing! With this bot issue going on? These people have no idea that these people delivering are NOT actual insta cart shoppers!And how are they getting the cards to pay for the items!! Insta cart definitely has to know what's going on! They're all about the money!! I hope it crashes!! We shouldn't have to suffer due to undercover false shoppers!

    I hate when they tell you where to go, I don't think that system is actually working correctly. I feel like that means other shoppers are already shopping batches at those stores so it says high demand. But the demand is already being met.

    I was in the Costco parking lot at 9:45am. Batches started popping up about 10:03am. I took one and went in it was 10:06. I saw a guy already checking out with a good size order for Instacart. How is that even possible!?!? He has to have a bot! Frustrating

    thank you Jen for sharing this and I want to say this bot rings are like a crime ring that should be stopped frisked and arrested. They are not legit background checked IC shoppers. This should be exposed and reported. I using another app platform and I see these same drivers at the parking lot congregate in groups probably using bots and taking all the jobs as well. I haven't gotten any jobs for a long time. Like I said before my income dropped a lot. thank you Jen.

      Insta cart won’t do anything until a bot ends up robbing a customer they did an order for. These bots are not back ground checked therefore nobody knows if they have criminal charges. It’s so frustrating us honest, high rating shoppers don’t get to make our money anymore.

    I have a customer I would not want a criminal or someone who is doing something illegal and underhanded like that to know my name, address etc. I wouldn’t want them delivering my groceries. Customers should absolutely know this and they should also wonder what other information these individuals are getting? Payment card information, ect…

      Yes but who wants to waste a minute or two doing that? Ive done that until I get an actual chat support, it’s annoying to have to do that when you’re trying to finish up shopping and you have to jump through hoops and loops just to get a live person to help you, if we are reaching out to chat support is because we have done all those questions the virtual chat asks, but I get where they coming from, if it’s someone new then it makes sense.

    They are creating an illusion of scarcity of batches ...so you take the next batch they pitch. Gotta take it because there aren't any batches at the moment! It's a strategy to lure the shoppers into accepting undesirable batches.

      I think they are are rolling the schedule, distributing more to bots (IC insiders), and they are shaving off their loose ends. Too many workers and they are eventually going to have robots doing our jobs

Sorry, but after what’s all going on in this country I don’t trust any politician or corporation anymore. All greedy. Promising people the world until they get your vote then change all of the rules so you can never vote them out and then watch what happens.     Hi Jen thank you for exposing the issue with bots. I have seen so many high paying batches pop up and disappear before I can even click on it. They new update alerts me to a batch that is not there or batches with no tip or mutiple batches under $20. 00. I didn't accept any batches today due to low paying double and triple batches in my area. Instacart needs to do better to stop these bot user who have not be vetted to shop and deliver on their platform. My weekly income has drop more than a half this last week due to low paying batches or no batch avaialble in my area. I have try to go to bigger city with batches still showing with a no tip or low tip.

      Check your connection speed. Batches disappearing fast doesn’t always mean it’s bots. Notifications are useless because they appear at least a minute after a batch shows in the queue.

    New sub today! Been watching you for a while now, your contact is great and to the point. My personal feelings as Instacart wants this and it’s probably behind it. Instacart is doing nothing for shoppers. I have been shopping for Instacart probably before you ever even heard of them, and over the years the app has diminished the scope of the available orders to me. Are used to make hundreds of dollars per week without tons of trouble. This week has been the worst yet. I think Instacart wants veteran shoppers to clean up the trashy orders with no tip and ridiculous drives and all the other crap that nobody would accept. This explains why they constantly are hiring new shoppers. Inexperienced shoppers, would likely take some of those orders as well. My bet is Instacart will do nothing to prevent bots and other nefarious activities from going on.

    We have a couple large bot-rings at the Costco in Shoreline, WA. I don't even bother any more. Aside from the low batches not being worth my time, I get so frustrated when I see them with multiple phones, cheering each other openly on the high batches they receive.

    Yes same thing happened to me today. $24 batch and a guy with a huge cart full of big boxes. The beaches are ridiculously low. UNBELIEVABLE! And so not ok ! Thank you so much for your channel videos.

    Thank you so much for what you do! I had been wondering what was going on lately... its horrible. One thing I can add is that if I'm at home I see nothing. I only see batches (not good ones) if I'm out and about. And I can't sit still anywhere for more than a minute or 2 or I stop getting batches. I literally need to be driving around for new ones to pop up. It's scary. This is a huge safety concern & just dumb on IC part.
    I love this job. I've never been able to say that about any other job in my life. But I'm getting more depressed by the day by being let down again and again by IC. I'm a good, hardworking shopper for 2.5 years and feel like I'm of no value to IC. I'm scared week to week if I'll meet my minimum for bills. This just isn't right because there's something IC can do. It's not like it's out of their hands.
    It's sucks to be the "little guy" in this world.... I truly have little hope . I wasn't made for this world/society. I finally find something I can do and make a living doing and love it. Now this? I should've known better but it was nice for a while.

    I deconstructed the app in iOS and the only Obj C method labeled Costco is for the warehouse ID. Not much help there; however there are plenty of batch settings that can be tweaked. My suspicion is that these bot rings rely on paid IC insiders to prioritize the high dollar Costco batches to specific shoppers. Someone needs to go undercover, join a group, and document it.

    Are these REALLY bot rings? I sit at Costco 15 minutes before they open waiting for batches to drop. I only take $50 and up batches. I sit with 2 or 3 other shoppers while we wait for batches.

    Yeah, I am really angry about the lack of transparency when it comes to which shoppers see certain batches now. They say distance ("among other factors") are taken into account so now I have to do what I did with doordash and run out to a specific area and HOPE they are busy. I can't just sit in the comfort of my own home and wait until I get a decent batch. Now I have to actively chase them down. It's just ridiculous. I'm so infuriated. I've been having to take orders I normally would never touch just to have SOME money. Instacart, get it together! Pay us more and STOP dangling carrots in front of your hard-working shoppers who are the ONLY reason you even exist!!!

    I think we should all leave a note to every customer after dropping off their orders. I mean dont they see our pic when we accept the order? If they're not verify tell them to deny or report. If we can drop a note to all the customers it will eventually catch on.

    Still in July 2023 facing the same problem here in Miami. People with 2 phones, big batches go away in milliseconds. The other day I was walking around a Publix store and I passed by a lady and saw her phone with 4 batches meanwhile with app was showing zero cero none nada.

    I have been 5 star shopper for 1 year now and i have personally seen these Bot rings in my local Costco in the Phoenix area. Can we go about it as Cyper crime, aren't these fake accts getting access to customers info too, bank info, home addresses ect

    I don't go near Costco, but I'm tempted to drive down one morning and see if the bot rings are in my area. I still don't understand how they pay for the batches if they aren't vetted shoppers with an IC debit card..... On another topic.... I've recently accepted two different orders that said paid over $45 but when I completed the order, the pay was $10 less!!! no change in customer tip. I think IC has.a few tricks up their sleeves.

      One batch was a double. I wouldn’t take it because one customer was too far and the traveling time to and from wouldn’t have me come out with even a decent hourly wage never mind factoring my vehicle and gas. I looked at the items. Then decided against it. Then a single popped up for $20 more tip and it was the same items. How could that be? And I knew it was the same items as soon as I saw the fresh sliced watermelon spears. Customers here hardly ever order that. What do you make of that? Are the tips being skimmed? And it was the closer customer only. Same distance as customer A in the double with less tip. Did the customer call up and increase her tip after placing her order? 🤨. Nope. Shady shit. It was something like when it was a double it was $29 and when it became a single it was like $38maybe that’s why some shopper had posted somewhere that we’re not allowed to discuss tips with customers. lol. Hey Sara. Thank you so much for that $5 tip. What $5 tip, I gave a $20. 😉

    The fact this video has a still relevant today says a lot 😢 I’m a new shopper and I’ve been hearing from seasoned shoppers the shift in batch money. I’m hoping there will be a way they get rid of the bots so that the real shoppers can get paid what they’re worth.

    I have no words Jen. This is so disheartening to see. These bot users saying they have a high rating, 9 or 10 did make me laugh, even though the situation isn't funny. Do you have any idea why Costco is where the bots shop? Is this because they typically have the highest payouts? Can we get a petition signed on this topic to get the new CEO to address this? Your video was so well researched and informative. I thank the shopper who is sharing all these photos and trying to talk to these users first hand. Interested to see this story continue to unfold.

      Hi Joe. The 9 or 10 made me laugh, too. Costco is the target because of the well over $100.00 daily payouts. The illegal users can make hundreds by noon. They are cleaning up at Costco and leaving the sloppy seconds to the vetted shoppers. A petition is a good idea and I will look into that. Thank you so much for suggesting this.     I see those bot users all the time. I always want to say something but...it will not go well.
    Anyway, I've had two $100 Cosco orders come to me then immediately lose it to a bot. I would accept the batch, then within 20 seconds the batch "is no longer available."

      Jen I think instacart- rather than turning a blind eye approves of this. Think about it from their perspective. Sure it’s not “legit” but they are handling big numbers and getting them done. We are SCREWED but IC doesn’t care snout us. They care about their bottom line. I bet those people don’t care about tips, either. They are making top $$$ no matter what.

    Yes that’s what they always told me , and I HATE they remove zones and now I have to go chase “batches” where show is busy , seat at parking lot for 1-2 hour shows busy but yet no batches available!!!!

    Wow it’s been a year since I stopped IC and DD. I just started thinking of starting back . I have been doing my research before I started back and it’s the same Bull itch that caused me to stop gig work . The bots , low pay and no tips that worth my time.     Does Instacart even consider the safety of the customers who are placing these orders? I would be afraid to place a big order with a generous tip only to have it shopped and delivered by some imposter.

      They will unmatch them from you if this happens and you report it. Also, they supposedly will deactivate the person.

    To play devils advocate.. seems they are working together in a ring yes.. mutiple phones etc.. that naturally increases their odds of nabbing a batch quickly. The algo uses several metrics including proximity (more than ever from what I've seen) to distribute batches. I want to emphasize how important proximity is from my own experience lately. If I'm not close to the Costco I'm not seeing much... the moment I get close the batches come. Groups like that would have a lot of power even without a bot (especially if they always have someone in proximity to grab new batches.) I'm just not convinced bots are being used. There could be another explanation.

    My update now has the notification saying “new batch available. The customer is waiting for your help” in the past, the amount of the batch was listed on the notification but not anymore.

    Wow!!! No wonder I don’t get Costco much & never above $60. I see people with huge orders all the time. Looks like Canada is also affected by these botches.     You are 1000 percent correct!! Veteran shopper here and I’ve noticed first the amount of orders have decreased drastically. This has been happening for months now. Then when one pops up instantly it will disappear!!! The tips seem to have gone down with all orders as of lately. Yet I go to the store and see shoppers with orders filling up there carts and I can’t get one. If I’m LUCKY I make 50 dollars a day. I know something is wrong.

    I have experienced the low batches or no batches at all early in the mornings, I used to be able to get at least one “good” batch early in the morning while I was still at home, I am close to a lot of stores like Vons, Walmart, Costco so I was able to do at least a Walmart early in the morning, now I have to drive to the store and literally wait for batches, some times I have to walk into the store in order to see any batches which is ridiculous! How much closer can I get then being in the parking lot literally parked accross the front of the store. Anyways I have never seen a Costco batch for more than $60-$70, and they’re usually too far away lots of miles away which it’ll take me at least an hour to get there and an hour to come back, who wants to waste 2 hours of driving plus about an hour or so of shopping and checking out, you know the big lines at Costco are ridiculous. I haven’t seen the rings of people but then again I might be too busy trying to do my batch as fast as I can to get out of there and drive for hours. I have been a 5 stars most of the time and it seems that when my rating goes just below 5 thats when I get more batches, even with the 5 star ratings I get really bad batches $7, $9, no tip etc.. it seems it doesn’t matter what rating you have the batches are the same, there’s no incentive to have a 5 star rating, you’re in the same pool as everyone else. Also can you talk more about the unfairness of the “delivery only” batches, I was doing some and I noticed that my rating would go down the next day after doing some “delivery only” batch or batches so I asked one of the chat support if our rating is affected if the customer rates the shopper on a delivery only batch? To my surprise she said yes,I would get the same rating the shopper gets even though I didn’t shop for it, I just delivered! Since then I stopped doing those because I take pride in my shopping and my ratings, I am very professional and I won’t jeopardize my ratings if I was not the shopper, it is not fair to us the shoppers, there should be a different system for the customer to rate the shopper or if it’s a delivery only batch then there should be another rating option for the “delivery person” otherwise I can go do doordash and be rated on my delivery. Thank you for informing us and be our voice, it’s so frustrating, oh and don’t get me started with the Virtual chat support, what a waste of time! I want to chat with someone, I am one that has tried everything else and I only use the chat support if it’s something I know they will be able to help ( we all know we don’t always get the correct information) so I only contact them when it’s really my last option.
    One more thing, have you guys been experiencing no internet connection at Costco? I don’t know if this bot rings are blocking the signal or what is going on but last week and this week I’ve had to get out of Costco, leave my shopping cart full of the shopping I did because once I go to checkout the app won’t work, it won’t connect to the internet unless I get in my car and drive about 5 miles away from there or I can wait for Instacart to call me and ask what;s going on, I can receive calls and make calls but the internet or the network won’t work, hhmmm very suspicious, I wonder if they’re blocking the signal or something, it is just too strange and it’s only with the Instacart app, I can use any other apps like facebook or any of my social media apps.

      The internet at Wegmans in Virginia Beach gets blocked. And I have to walk out to my car and restart my phone to continue shopping. It’s a ring of guys. I have learned their cars. And one guy I see often, even today, walks around the store with a cart with nothing in it. He’s blocking other shoppers. Something has to be gone. But I think IC is allowing it got their own benefits; I.e. kickbacks

Please reach out to as many national media outlets and I'm sure one will run with it. It's a serious injustice and they will notice that.     Instacart used to be a 70% female dominated gig. It paid well.
    After the male Uber driver's switched over to Instacart during the pandemic to make money, everything went to crap.
    Creating bots to steal the best batches and you'll notice they focus on the biggest Costco & Sam's orders. In my area I'm lucky if I see a batch paying $15 these days. Usually it's a double or triple batch shop and deliver with no tips. Pure crap.

    Jen, who are these bot users shopping the orders??? I’m assuming they’re not actually approved shoppers. So basically we have these people showing up to customers homes without having a background check??? That is terrifying!!!! IC needs to be put on blast point blank period. They KNOW what is happening and continue to do nothing about it! Thank goodness I live in a small town and haven’t been infiltrated by the bots yet. But I remember when they first became an issue back in the beginning of the pandemic… thank you for continuing to fight for us gig workers

    omg, I am so upset over this. I have been with instacart for 3 years now and I have Maintained a 5 star rating with rave reviews and I sit day after day, jumping through all the hoops, multiple times a day that tech support tells me to do. for the past year I have to say I have seen a huge decrease in the batches I've received. back 6 months ago o used to complain that the batches are horrible. not worth shopping, ectt, ect.. current day im lucky if I see 1 batch an hour. today was my lucky day i actually swiped a batch for 58 dollars, I could believe it, but that was it, after I delivered that double ,2 store batch, i was back sitting. waiting, begging for batches. there are days I just want to cry, it is so unfair. I reach out to tech support 2 to 3 times a day, having no idea that instacart gets charged for that, I don't abandon the call though, I see it through and rate accordingly, usually give 5 stars. going forward knowing now what you just updated with the bots and the other very useful information. I can't tell you how many times and performed all the trouble shooting tricks the tech claim will work for me. I don't know how I got that 58 dollar batch today but something is telling me it was passed by the bots be out of the new 2 store shop. I could go on and on about how this no batch day after day has effected me, im obsessed with getting back the days where I was making $100 plus. I pride myself on the work I do for my customers and it show, my stats are immaculate and the customers reviews are over the top happy with my work. I always go above and beyond. I had heard about bots but really didn't understand what they were all about or how it worked. I gotta tell you, if I see a bunch of people all hanging around looking at their phones it will take all the strength I can muster not to approach them. I'm not a shy person and there's not much I'm afraid of. what can I do to help because I would love to destroy this whole bot community. I will try to keep up with your vidios and post so that I am educated on all this bs. thank you for your time and energy to combat this fraudulent activity.

      They're going to be going public. Won't have the resources to deal with pesky bots. Once it's a public company, all they're going to focus on is revenue generation to satisfy shareholders and thus squeezing out shoppers even more.

    Two things I learned is that you got got keep your phone from becoming too cluttered with Dat etc or it slows down the IC app and many others as well you want to clean out the cache frequently. And update often but be aware some their updates takes days to fully be functional properly.

    I do this part time in canada but for the past couple of weeks there has been slim to none costco batches and when I do see one they go so quickly and some are bad tippers. I think the bots are likely here too. Many of the batches I do see now have no tips and I do get that same lame statement about going where there are better batches. Much like you, i will not leave my area to "try" find a better batch. I looked at IC today....barely any batches and many with no tips. Seems like this might be the way IC will weed people out of working for them now that things are slowing down
