Ride along with me in today's video as I attempt to accept Instacart Batches from Costco only. These are the highest paying batches that require persistence and patience. Find out how much money I was able to make shopping Costco Orders and if I failed or succeeded at meeting my goal of only accepting Costco orders.
I was also curious to see what happened at the checkout when I scanned the Customer Membership Card. As Instacart shoppers are aware, everyday, more and more shoppers are banned from shopping at Costco.
In today's video, this is a casual chit chat and walk through, ride along with everyday shopper shenanigans with an update on the Wired Reporter and Shopper Spotlight Series.
Thank you for shopping with me! Please let me know in the comments below if you like these casual shop with me ride along, chit chat videos! I welcome your feedback and what your favorite types of videos are, from me.
I appreciate you all so much thank each of you, for your support.

So I started doing Costco at 10am a few weeks ago. What I like about Costco is there's NO replacements. Usually goes very quick since I stay at my closest location and know it pretty well. The batches pay higher usually because of heavy pay and bigger tips due to higher total cost of the orders. It's been working well for me. I usually get a $50-$70 batch at 10am. My daily goal is $115 and I can hit that easily by 2pm if I get Costco at 10

In my area, by 1pm, the batches start getting worse and worse so it's crucial to start early. I need to get more disciplined. Let me get moving....

Some stores can request to use there own employees to fulfill orders but that isn't going to be the norm. Some say instacart wants to have there own warehouse and have robots fulfill orders. All I can say is don't panic take each day one day at a time most of it wont happen its just talk.

I have seen some local stores try to have employees fill out orders, but realistically they don’t have enough staff-the company has chronically understaffed stores in my area. I haven’t seen many shop only batches, but I figure that is because I signed up for in store and delivery. I think there will always be a space for us since we are technically cheaper than full-time employees to hire.

Jen, love your videos. I think I may start my own channel since I seem to be a veteran at Instacart and have been known for grabbing monster batches. I will tell you, the Costco jobs are worth it..... For Instance, I got a double batch last week. Both orders were huge. It paid $145 dollars. 35+ miles.... I had some issues getting in the neighborhood since it was gated. Should have taken me 2 to 2 1/2 hours, but it took me a full 3 hours because of difficulties.... I still averaged close to $50 an hour.... its all about how fast you can do the order. That's what decides whether it is worth it or not....

Out of all the Costcos I've been to doing instacart the one thing that is a common is their layouts do change from store to store it is important to kind of be a bit familiar with the store that you are shopping at but for the most part things are generally grouped in the same categories so that does help I always start with grabbing water and heavy items first as those don't get damaged very easily being on the bottom of the flat cart and boxes from produce make great ways to divide orders

So I actually read some thing about this as well. Apparently the grocery stores want to have their own employees shop the orders and deliver them instead of having to have Instacart pay us. I don’t know the exact logistics of it but I definitely heard some thing about it here in Florida. They actually got rid of a lot of in-store shoppers at most stores and when I am shopping, I do see the grocery store employees doing the shopping now.

Hey Jen. Sooo I just left the Publix near me in Charlotte, NC and they advised that instacart will now be delivery only and curbside pick up. The store is setting up for it. This confirms what the lady you mentioned in your video advised you. I tried to send an article earlier in week in regards how New Mexico markets tested this and it was successful. Right now I’m just shaking my head in how this will impact gig workers doing instacart.

Thank you for this update Michelle and by the way, if you ever try to send an article in the comment section and provide a link, UA-cam will automatically spam this. This makes sense. This is absolutely what my grocery store will be doing. I’m sure they are starting with the smallest grocery store within the chain to see how it works. What a bummer.

thanks Jen. I am a total newbie to instacart--- haven't done my first batch yet. My reoccurring nightmare is a Costco batch.... I saw a guy in Costco (California), who looked like he was doing instacart. I talked with him for a moment--- trying to figure out if I wanted to do this or not. He was making good money with instacart--- but I noticed his batch included several cases of bottled water. I am an older person and worried about the weight and delivery of this item at Costco. I decided to purchase a collapsible wagon on Amazon to help with deliveries. I can lift it, but carrying for a distance would be hard. You had me laughing so hard throughout the video. (:

Hi Jen, it's Scott from Oregon. You have been so helpful to me with your UA-cam vids, and I wanted to ask you a question. I have noticed on the Insta app that the delivery time changes. For example: I took an order today that was due at 12:33 PM. I was well ahead of schedule and then checked the delivery time again. It then read due at 11:49 AM! Do you know why the delivery time changes? It's happened to me more often than not. Thanks again for all you are doing, Jen!! Stay safe.
    -Scott

    • @jenniferstoneking5942
      @jenniferstoneking5942 3 роки тому

It changes based upon what’s happening and current information. The initial delivery time for the customer was likely by 12:33. If the batch isn’t picked up until that time/later it moves to say ASAP. For a standard batch they drop usually with a 2 hour window to delivery time promised. In this case you picked it up, probably around 1033. Shopped it and when you were done checking out, the app re-figures the delivery rime between the store and the delivery address and spits out a new Due By Time: 11:49 in this case. I’m sure to keep people from dawdling and feel like they are under the gun always. Just relax and if you are always doing an amazing job you will never hear that you are late. I never have.
I would add a note though on being late: if I ever pick up a batch that has the fire🔥booster on it, I assume (or know) it’s been sitting and has the potential to already be late - had one that was 3 days late once! In these cases I immediately let them know, hi, I’m so-and-so and I see that your order has been sitting for quite some time so I swiped it up and am going to shop for you as efficiently as possible and get it to you as quickly as humanly possible (while remaining top-quality) This helps to head off any negative ratings that they may be feeling like leaving for the service - making you more the savior than the issue.

I’m watching this now in June and I live in central Florida. We have Publix and I just started instacart a month ago. One of the Publix stores that I shop at does have Publix employees shopping for items as well. But they also do where are you can order online and get curbside pick up through Publix itself. There are shoppers from Instacart that stay at the stores all day as well. And I get some delivery only orders from those orders that they are shopping for. One time I saw an Insta cart person with the green Instacart shirt on and her back of her shirt said that she was a lead. I’m to new and shy so I wouldn’t ask what that was about 😂 I have not Concord a Costco order yet. I am a little afraid to go to Costco. I don’t shop there I don’t think I’ve ever even been to one. Do you have to have your own bags?

I’m very picky on Costco and Sam’s orders i won’t take any with large dog food or water....some stores have in store shoppers and they go pick up only for us...but most stores are doing the opposite and moving back to full service shoppers-that was the case for sprouts which is a natural foods store here they went to in store shoppers for 6 months then they ended up just going back to us doing the full service shopping it’s hard to say...also in my market they started doing shop only and curbside pick up orders... where you go to the store and shop the order and instead of driving to the customer you either deliver it curbside in the parking lot or stage it in a pick up area....lots of changes happening

The reason why some costco cashiers don't really like instacart shoppers is because I was told by a few cashiers that shoppers are rude at times, if they have more than 1 order they don't separate it themselves and they leave it up to the cashier to sort it out by verbally telling them instead of helping them. Personally, if I have a double order I will separate the orders, I position the items with the bar codes in plain view, and I help put items on the belt. Also, I am always kind to all the employees and customers within any store.

Yes! My store is recruiting their own in store shoppers. Manager told me that they plan to cancel the contract with Instacart. Deliveries will be handled by Full service shoppers only. Also said store doesn’t like how Instacart treats their employees and doesn’t want to be associated with that cause store has a good reputation of being a family friendly employer.

    Hi, Jen
I have a question, I know this doesn't have nothing to do with the subject you are talking about, but I have seen people around the store where I shop and they are walking around with papers and they have this long list of items, and I asked one of them, and she told me that she was helping her neighboor the other one told me, it was easier for her to shop like that, because that way she didn't have to go to every single aisle.
    I think they are lying.
    Something is going on.

Hey Jen, I'm a new shopper. I just found your videos and I have been learning a lot from you. I have a 5 star rating but unfortunately I was a victim of a costumer saying I didn't deliver a bag when I did she gave me a 1 star rating ( which lucky was the rating that got dropped). I didn't know about all the bases i should be cover when delivery an item. Now I'm really worried, I know it says I am not at risk of deactivation until after 30 batches but do item order issues ever go away? Thank you so much for your content I am also growing confidence to try my first costco batch but that low rating really knocked the wind out of my sails.

Hi Julio, please understand if this happens to every single shopper on Insta cart. The missing item reports will absolutely fall off as you shop more batches. Typically it takes 100 new orders for the old issues to fall off and they absolutely will. It just takes time. Your reading will also fall off after 100 new orders. Just be extremely careful and attentive to the details while you were working on getting your rating up. You can do it. You are not alone and again we have all been in your shoes.💛 Hang tough! For Costco orders fill up one cart with smaller items then take a 2nd cart to gather the remaining large items. Once done separate the orders each customers items go in a separate cart. Show barcode of 1st customer and cash that customer out. Then show 2nd barcode and cash out next customer. Once complete if you don't feel comfortable pushing 2 carts request an employee to push the other cart with you to the car. Customer with the least items goes in the trunk and front seat if necessary and backseat for other customer. Costco pays the highest typically for item count over any other store but to make the most be open to shop whereever the high tip batches send you. Great video although would love to see the swiping part and you getting the batch.

watched to the end. about phasing out shoppers. its true but may depend on area and market chain. certain chains are getting "in store worker contracts" so for instacart its more reliable and faster to get costumers their groceries. but again it depends the area and chain. if the demand is high enough like where i live. they always need us shoppers they can't do without us. as there is just too many batches but im guessing in lower volume areas its easier to have batches ready for pickup and just use drivers to deliver. also a tip for shopping at costco and bjs. use the boxes from items like tide or the fruit to pack your items and separate. then that also goes for delivery. to maneuver with more. i know you have your ikea bags but much easier in the boxes.

    • @TraphiqStLouis

i forgot to add also with the in store shoppers instacart is making sure they control the market. so even if other apps may be used. instacart hand is always in the pot. great for insta but we shopper/drivers are expendable.

@@JENontheGO I think what most of the comments here suggesting to use he produce boxes are getting at is that you are doing double the amount of work that you need to do by not using the boxes from the get go. This means you are having to rearrange many more times than is necessary. As you strategically shop - place the items into the boxes with the barcode facing up. Pack all the boxes in this way. At my CostCo’s I then check out this way. If there are only 2 boxes they can stay in the cart and they will scan and be very appreciative from there as this saves both them & me from having to load and unload them all over again & me repacking them. Bigger things on bottom obviously and the chips and breads and such in the baby seat. If there are more than 2 boxes you can load the extra layers directly onto the belt to be scanned & leave the bottom 2 box layer in the cart. I will slightly pretty up the way I arranged them for delivery as the barcodes for berries and such are on the bottom, ect (have rubber bands to wrap around these big berry containers to ensure they will never fly completely open). Just food for thought as I’ve seen this comment now a bunch and think the big impact it can have on cutting your time and stress level wasn’t being fully explained.

I'm in Minnesota & the main grocery store here is Cub Foods.
When I first started Instacart in July 2020, Instacart had their own in store shoppers. They would shop the order & bag it/stage it.
Then Instacart would offer up that 'Delivery Only' batch to us full service shoppers for Delivery Only.
I did a lot of these as it was quick & easy money usually & you didn't have to shop. In & out of the store quickly.
You arrive at the store & go the the Instacart staging area where you would find shelves with bags on them as well as big refrigerators, freezers & warmer ovens. Your pick-up order in the app tells you that there are, for example, 6 bags to pick up. All bags have a customer name abbreviation sticker on them with a barcode to scan. Some bags are on the shelf & some are in the freezer, fridge & warmer.
You locate the bags, scan them in & proceed to the delivery. The app tells you when you have all the bags scanned.
Cub Foods switched to their own shoppers in January & dropped the Instacart in store shoppers. Although these shoppers are still using the Instacart App.
They apparently don't use Instacart drivers for delivery because I haven't seen a Delivery Only batch since the change in January.
They do a lot of curb service.
I'll have to find out if they're delivering also & who they are using for deliveries.
    Just my 2 cents.
