Man I’ve been waiting for someone to do this exact video!
I was about to upgrade my Mavic Mini to the Mini 3 Pro when the Avata came out, and this helped a lot to confirm what I kind of suspected. I think the Mini 3 Pro has so many features that I’d use a lot, and the Avata would be more for fun.
But I still want both 😫😫😫🤦🏼‍♂️

I have had the Mini 3 Pro for a while now and I like it a lot when I don't want attention and the wind is low. I tried the Avata just this week and sent it back today.I hate wearing goggles and not knowing what's going on around me. I hooked it up to my iPad Mini but had a tough time telling which direction it was headed using line of sight. I had the camera pointed at my car and pushed the stick forward to fly it back to my car and it went to the right, into a tree! I was done at that point.

Great review! I just realized that the DJI Avata, although more advanced with its manual mode, is the more beginner-friendly of the two because of the heavier attention to the safety features!

The Mini 3 is a much more beginner friendly. The Avata is a very beginner friendly FPV drone, but the avoidance sensors and other features on the Mini 3 make it much more beginner friendly overall.

The mini series fly themselves. Literally. The Avata is an FPV drone with some mini 3 saftey features, but it can't fly itself in less it's returning home.

@@RobHK Not only did you make me put in my cart, ended up making the purchase as well. I like doing cinematic flying for videos and just need something stable for those times. Also seems to attract less attention with it being quieter and not sitting there with goggles on. The Avata makes it nice for those fun adrenaline shots. Also just a blast to fly!

      Word!
Worst thing is the attention when you need to capture your shots. I remember sitting on the beach in hawaii, had a policeman coming in for a smoke 20m away..i already prepared my DJI FPV, but ended up launching the Mini 3 😅 even tho i am a A1/A2/A3 pilot, I wasn’t sure which foot this guy started his day on😝.
Mini 3 has the gold pocket in my bag, Avata has taken the silver spot from the DJI FPV, only the bronze left now..

I have the DJI Phantom 1, Mavic, and now the Avata. I can say it really depends on what your doing with it but the Avata is the most "fun" thing I've ever flown. Live stream FPV is as close to the real sensation of flying you'll get and it does take amazing video and stills. Transmission can be an issue with obstructions but hands down, if you want to get into an easy to fly FPV its hard to do better than the Avata. Taking all that into consideration..... buy both.

I've own the dji fpv, the avata and now the mini 3 pro. I was excited about the avata until I've experienced it. It's way noisier than my dji fpv, descends real slow on normal and sports mode that it almost become a problem when battery is running out, and the main marketing of it being acrobatic is a miss, also since it's a cinewhoop style quad, its less stable on windy conditions, this and the fact it only have vertical gimbal stabilization, have me buying the mini 3 pro and flying the dji fpv for sports and the avata mostly for indoors. Now that the mini 3 pro can use my avata goggles. The value of my avata just went lower.

Definitely a hard choice! It's one reason why I am happy that DJI has been more flexible with selling just the drone alone without the other essential accessories. I mean if you got the Mini 3 Pro, you'd only need to get the Avata and the goggles and you'd be able to enjoy flying the Avata too. This is assuming the DJI RC will also be compatible with the Avata in the future too. Anyway, it saves you more money.

Agreed…I actually purchased the Mini 3 Pro after watching many reviewers. I build Cinewhoops and FPV drones far more capable than the Avata, but am very much looking forward to the new Air unit’s
Noise is huge for people everywhere, especially in parks and cities. My Cinewhoops are less noisy than the Avata and they really upset people who are trying to enjoy a pleasant day in scenic areas. Avata IMO is perfect for rural areas to have fun, but the Mini 3 will be your 007 quite feature packed drone…Great and honest review!👏👍

  • @adcraziness1501

Question regarding the RC controller vs phone... Does the DJI Fly app on the RC controller ever crash? I have RC-N1 and iPhone, and today the DJI Fly app crashed and I had to relaunch it. No huge deal, the drone just sat there waiting for me to come back. But in the wrong situation it could have been worse. Relaunching the app went right back to camera mode, but had to be messed with a minute before the control icons came back, at first it was just the camera view. So, does the RC controller app ever crash? It's based on Android. If so does it recover easily?

@@spatnaspolecnost , I’ve recently acquired a AVATA through a friend who didn’t really like the fpv experience and prefers flying his planes more. I can understand why that is, it’s a much more hands on experience with the planes, and I must admit I love flying planes too, but it’s just the space required to carry them in the car and carrying all the gear that’s needed. I do admit that the mavic 3 would be the best for cinematography but then unless you have a really high end ultra hd tv, anything more than 4K is going to be useless, plus the mini 3 is so small and compact and easy to carry, and doesn’t annoy people with the loudness of the props.

Yes you can look straight down in the Avata but the airframe comes in to view at the bottom of the screen. You can crop it out. Through the goggles while flying you see a lot more airframe looking down. If you want true trouble free straight down birds eye view, then get the mini 3.
