With full FPV drones people tend to fly faster which is fun but isn't always as cinematic. Flying that fast doesn't allow you to slow things like water down in post. With Avata drones you can hover stable and fly slower. People keep trying to make arguments that Avata is not a real FPV drone, but they are just different tools for different jobs, but both can be fun.
You can fly in horizon or angle mode. You can set your switches on your remote to switch into those modes, then it flies like a dji. In fact, most fpv drone pilots setup there drones for the options of all 3 modes. The Avata is really limited, it freaks out when trying to do freestyle shots.
You dont NEED to fly faster, you just CAN. Adjust your camera angle to be 15-25 degrees and you can float and hover just as stable as you would with a GPS/camera drone, but its using you actual finesse.
I'm this close to hitting the buy now button on the Avata 2. I just sold the Avata 1, my GoPros and sold my 5" and 7" a few months ago because I can't stand it with normal FPV drones anymore and keep on with extra cameras and lipo batteries and all that exhausting things, I have tried them all since 2019 and now I feel I want a all-in-one-drone like the Avata 2. Really good and informative video bro!
I also have the avata 2 caus of the same reason like you. I didnt wanted the lipos and repair stuff etc anymore. I didnt have enought time for that. So i bought the avata 2 and i really like it. I don't fly racing. I only wanted to do some cinematic shots and dive in on waterfalls and some mountains and the avata 2 is perfect. If its very windy, then it is a bit hard to fly but i love the avata 2 😀 i can reccommend it.

Great video! Very cool footage! On the DJI FPV drone I had that same 250 meter issue that suddenly switched me out of manual mode. I found that I could turn that off in the settings on the goggles. I don't know if that's an option on the Avata, or Avata 2. Something to look into. 250 meters is not enough for manual mode. Kinda would ruin the whole experience.
I had an Avata nice drone, now I change to the iFlight Nazgul. This drone is flying so much better and has more power! Further more there is no restriction to the altitude, when you diving mountains 🏔️ . It sucks when you limited to 500m, now I can fly to the summit and then dive it all the way down!
@peterlindgren1 Great review, Peter!!! Thanks for the comparison. I have an Avata 2, and I think it is the perfect combination between an FPV drone and a cinematic drone. It's an FPV drone with some cinematic capabilities. Looking forward to having plenty of fun times using it
Sick shot with the 7” over the river in the beginning!! Two very different tools with individual use cases that definitely overlap one another. A good pilot can, of course, increase this congruency but they remain very specific in their applications. Clearly the Avata can perform landscape cinematography at the expense of range, weight, and digital restrictions and the FPV is almost completely useless indoors. Both great platforms for an aerial videographer.
I recently flew the Avata 2 in Manual Mode for the first time and you really have to watch it when you do a split-S because it will drop a lot. The thrust to weight ratio is only about 1 to 3.3. It's really underpowered for doing trick stuff but it works fine if you keep these things in mind. I love flying it in Manual Mode.
true, I am reaching its limits as well, I have purchased the MK5 now. What I found is that if you add throttle when your drone is vertical, you do not decent in the dirty air and you can do way more things such as powerloops and even juicy flicks
i know avata is just an off the shelf consumer product and oyu have super advanced custom fpv drones but you still made that waterfall swoop shot and the climb and dive over your film crew feel incredibly epic, to the point that I want want now

Guess it depends on your objective if it’s purely for fun and the thrill of flying that makes sense but for the most cinematic effect I do think the avata does great.
As long as there’s no winds outside. I’ve tried the first one in so many different situations, and whenever there’s a strong wind, you can forget about getting anything cinematic looking haha! But it’s a fantastic drone in every way. So much better than having to tinker around with things

In your last set of clips down by the river the Avata 2's movements (particularly roll) seem very muted, if not supressed compared to the Chimera. I know the Avata was slower but did you have horizonsteady on?
What measures do you take to avoid jello when shooting fpv with the action 4? I just sold my action 4 and got a GoPro because I had crazy amounts of jello, and I suspect the magnetic mount is causing micro vibrations... However, I really want to get back to using the dji action cams, because the image quaility imo is superior, but if the drawback is jello in the footage, I am sticking with my GoPro
