Got this lens less than a year ago and it's my favorite lens! Love the way it looks with Fujifilm colors! The balls it makes when wide open are the best! They're like rainbow doughnuts! I also put extension tubes on it for macro photography and it's amazing for macro stuff! I'd like to get an actual macro lens, but until then this is my go to "macro" lens! Would love to get another one and have it rehoused into a cinema lens! Shit would be tight!
I got this lens as well! Got it about 20 years ago when I came to Japan for vacation in an old film camera shop in the undergrounds of Tokyo streets. Really found the store by accident and I'm glad I did. Because this lens cost me less than $20! 20 years later and now I'm living in Japan. My lens is still in mint conditions. It is the M42 mount as well, so I adapt it to E-mount, FX-mount and EF-mount. Thanks for the video and sample clips. Open gate looks amazing with this lens character!
When I saw that flare in some of the shots on Taylor’s channel, I remember thinking wow, that lens is great, I wonder what it is. Now I know! Gotta love a good vintage lens flare.
Looks awesome. Love lenses like this. I have a Minolta Telesor 28mm f/2.8 and it has a similar character. Also use a Minolta Rokkor 50mm f/1.4 which is equal parts amazing. Using them on my Panasonic S5.
Vivitar did not make lens or other items, rather they rebranded other manufacture item with their name. Thus they actually had several version of the 28 mm sold in the past. Some of those manufactures are now popular manufactures. The code based on the initial sn like 22 is Kino Precision which is Kiron. Note as such some lens were better than other.
There are 2 types of vivitar 28mm f2.5, the one featured in the video which is made by kino, and another one made by tokina. Do you which one is it? If it looks like the one in the video then it is a kino made lens. Another way to find out is that at the front of the lens there is a serial number, and if it starts with 22 then it is a kino and if it starts with 37 then it is tokina.
Which mount is your vivitar? I think they come in PK mount or M42 right? Which adapter for EF did you buy? I think have your exact same lens. Plz help, thanks! Awesome vid too man!
Does using the Metabones speed booster lock down the lens so it has no movement? I want to upgrade from a GH5 with a Viltrox speed booster as the lens becomes so loose when trying to use it with a follow focus.
I was just thinking about what you said, building a set of lenses, and how vintage ones are perfect for starting out. What system of vintage lenses would you reccomend?
Just go with the m42 mount. Easy to adapt en lots of lenses available. I also had canon FD for a while, really good glass but horrible lens mount, skip that i should say.
I got this lens recently to my lumix S5 and love the image of that lens, nice bokeh and character, it's wider brother to my helios 44-2 :) Now I am looking for any 35mm good lens, think of mir 24h 35mm 2.0 but it''s a bit more expensive than these two, but I think I'll be better than mir 1b 37mm
is there a way to purchase moment items in the u.k without having to pay crazy shipping and taxes? i love the brand and really want to buy some filters and smartphone gear but by the time i look at my basket and go to checkout the price is metaphorically tearing a hole in my pocket
Though I don't get most of the things you talked about, I do want to learn about cameras since I find it fascinating. And I'm the type of person that doesn't understands what someone is talking about unless I try it myself a little then can be guided further. What camera would you suggest since I am a beginner? (In cheap range since I can't afford heeheeee)
As someone who has shot with Nikon, Fuji, and now Sony, definitely start with Fuji X-S10 or if you need autofocus go with Sony a6600/6400. Buy the camera used and spend more money on good native lenses (meaning the lens brand matches the camera brand).
Vintage glass… now you’re talkin’! Keep your eyes peeled for old Konica Hexanon 24’s… I also love me some old Soviet era glass - Helios and Industar have real character.
Theres Much more to this than you realise theres three of them They were Designed By an X Nasa Engineer. Vivitar manufactured them with Pentax, 28 Company number, Sold the sub rights to guess Who , Ziess. They were so good Ziess bought the rights to the lens and are still in production today Look at the shape of the lens and youll see its still basically the same Im still using mine on my fuji TX4

Snagged an F-mount from KEH for $50 🎉 excited to try it out!
I got one…. Really excellent. I also got hooked on the higher-priced LOMO OKS lenses (but they are all under $1k)
damn i have to dig it out of storage. i felt mine was too soft, little soft is good but at the time i thought it was too much. build like a tank too.

Picked up one of these lenses for $17. I usually pass on Vivitar lenses but the f2.5 intrigued me. Glad I bought it. Its surprisingly good.

I have the Tokina version. Starts with a 37@@michaelbodet3893
I found one Vivitar used in good conditions in 72.00 USD, worth it ? .....
Huh. I have this lens in FD mount but haven't used it since my old film camera. I should dust it off and give it a go.
What was the aspect ratio you used for the test footage?
i have been def enjoying shooting with my FD 50mm 1.4 and wanted to pick up an FD 28mm might look into this one!
Picked this up for 30 today gonna try it out on my gh5
Hi, great video. Is it full frame or apsc ?
I knew I was missing a lens in my kit!! Just found a MINT one for $80 🤘🏻
@officialMoment. I don't care, I went and bought it myself Mr Fake Moment account. Suck on that.

Beautiful video! Is there a way out from buying vintage lenses? They're all amazing!
What do in search for in regards to this Mount to ef?

I have a vivitar 19mm 3.5 and im pretty damn happy

My favorite lenses tbh
The Filter Thread is 67mm or 62mm because I've been looking over the internet and it says the it is 62mm filter thread.
Have you tried the vivitar 20mm f3.8?
yes love this lens!

Is there a difference getting the canon fd version opposed to the m42? I use fuji as well and I wasn’t sure
Adapting M42 to EF is more straightforward compared to FD to EF.
Yes imo fd is a horrible lens mount and I would prefer m42 much more.

Dude better search at least in wikipedia before make a video, Vivitar is just a brand, they dont make anything.
"Cinematic" is the fad word. Ew.
