Hey dude! Just wanted to share that I discovered your channel a couple weeks ago and I'm totally impressed with the art direction, songs, visual aspect of your channel in general! A really good wake up call on the fact that content don't have to always be made the same way. We need more channels like yours in the world. Much love, keep up with the good work.
Came for the production levels but realized I'm staying more and more for your refreshing perspective. With how much the latest and greatest thingy is pushed in the pursuit of perfection and sales, it's lovely hearing a take that boils down to loving what you have as well. Keep up the awesome productions and messages, love it!
Thanks so much, Raimana! I'm glad the perspective connected with you! It's definitely something I need to always remind myself to do: appreciate what I already have. Thanks again!
Or what about a clutch-focusring with definite stops at minimum and maximum distance, nice resistance and markings for the sharpness with different apperture settings..... o heaven!
Let's face it, this video is for a very niche audience, yet, the quality and inventiveness of its production is exquisite. Everything about it is perfect. The tone, mood and atmosphere, pace...it's all there. All for the love of one thing: a 35mm lens. Reminds me of some of Media Division's content.
I usually tend to play educational or informative videos at 1.5x or 2x playback speed but doing the same with yours feels illegal. I love the way you present information, in a way that is so meta-reflective of what you are informing the viewers about. It’s education about art through art. Keep up the good work, always a joy to see your videos!
I really love mine for portraits. The character of this lens is kind of unmatched, this is why Fuji still sell this lens together with the new 33 f1.4.
@@segzeeman7356 Just my two cents but the pixie dust starts to shower down for me at f4-f5.6 on a relatively sunny day so ISO can sit below 800 or so..
This lens has so much character that I think every copy deserves their own name. I haven't had such strong feeling about any camera or lens since my Rollei and Minolta days. What's even better is that I don't even think about buying another x-mount lens anymore - nothing is even close and this will stay on my x-pro 3 permanently until it's next camera body.
I got the XE1 and 35/1.4 back in 2013/14, and found I like this combo the best,,,, could be the 50mm FL,but the wider lenses don't look so cool for me.
It’s like you took the soundtrack from all the best sci-fi game starting menus while also taking the sci-fi space aesthetic and made it into this wonderful channel. You’re absolutely amazing. It’s like another world.
This is one of the best product presentations I ever saw. It's not a "review" in the classical sense but on a pure emotional level you trigger the urge to try this lense out. And it is done in a beautiful, atmospheric an cinematic way. Thank you!
Im a Film and TV student, literally only just starting, and I've had I have had photography as a hobby for a while now but I always wanted to find more inspiration on UA-cam, I always wanted a certain look from photos and it was something I could never describe. I found this channel probably a week ago now and I was amazed out how perfectly you captured my dream style of photography and videography, just watching your videos on repeat created this unreal feeling of finding someone to watch and learn from every second of the day. So I would like to say thanks for being my source of inspiration for the future ahead.
I cant express enough gratitude for your content. The 80s cyberpunk aesthetics, sound design, set design and most of all your photos! This channel represents so much of what I strive to achieve. Keep adding content and keep inspiring your fellow creators!
This video blew my mind! Not only did I learn something about lens design, I visited an alternate reality. I also learned that this is exactly the style of photography I want to work towards achieving! I can't believe it took me this long to click on one of your videos. Subscribed with bells on.
Totally agreed on this take. The 35mm 1.4 has a special quality to it. Feels much more analog than digital in many ways. I think the 18mm f2 is a bit more moody of a lens and IMO one of the most slept on lenses in the line up.
If you ever get the manual focus conversion done successfully please make a video on how! I've seen someone else try but IIRC aperture controls were electronic, so you're either stuck in f1.4 if you disable the electronics, or get an error message that wont let you use the lens if you leave them funtional.
I discovered and fell in love with Fuji nearly a decade ago when I got bought the original X100. I really, really liked that camera. I later owned the original X-Pro1 which I absolutely loved. Still one of my top favorite cameras of all time. I ended up owning the X-T1, the X-E1, the X-E2, the X10, the X-H1, the X-T30, etc. I wasn't a big fan of the X-E2, but I didn't hate it. The X-H1 was the first real sign of trouble, though. I loved the ergonomics and features of the camera, but I was unhappy with the image quality. I have owned nearly every brand of camera and nearly every sensor size. Shot film and digital. DSLR and mirrorless. I have never had a camera that I felt I just "could not" get the results I wanted. Some cameras require more tweaking of raws than others. Some work better withe certain photo editing software. I could always end up being happy with my results, though, even if it took a lot of time. The X-H1 was the first camera I ever owned that eventually had me toss my hands up and walk away. I sold it and bought an X-T30. It wasn't as problematic as the X-H1, but it still took a lot of work to get the results I wanted and overall there was nothing about the quality of the images or the shooting experience that I fell in love with. Fuji was awesome when they first started making their comeback. They went against the grain and did stuff that nobody else was doing, and I loved all of it. Over the years, though, though the styling of their cameras is still vintage (mostly), the shooting experience and the results you get just don't have that same special something that they used to.
I bought the 60mm f2.4 this summer as I needed something with a bit more range but not much more size. Another Fuji classic. And I was blown away by the look you can get with it. It also focuses fast enough on an X-Pro3 nowadays. The size and weight are great too. Feels really well balanced on that camera.
35 F1.4 and 60 F2.4 are two of the most interesting in terms of rendering and character. Unfortunately, Fujii's most artistic lenses have proven to be very undervalued these days. I also have them, I don’t want to buy others, I definitely won’t sell these.
@@mainquestion Agree! I would be very curious to get a GxAce treatment of the Voigtländer 23mm f1.2. It's gotten rather negative review so far, but it might be because people look at sharpness first and not so much at the character of the lens. Would love to get a different perspective for it. That's pretty much the only lens that I'd still want to have for Fuji...
Yes! Those two are favourites of mine as well (35 1.4 and 60 2.4). I also regret selling the 27mm 2.8, which had a very nice rendering character as well.
My favorite Fuji lens! I got it with my first X-E1 and still have it after selling all my Fuji bodies (waiting for an x-pro4) It is that good It is noisy, slow to autofocus compared to new ones, extends externally and the rubber lens cover fall off after the material gives in over the years…. Still I love it 😝 and I dream of an x100 body with this focal length and characteristics… it’ll be my dream EDC camera. Keep up the awesome work!
I only discovered your channel yesterday and already I know I discovered gold. I know you’re going to go big if you keep at this. Keep going. You’re doing something to stand out. And I love it.
@@GxAce yeah dude well bump on that. I just found you 10 minutes ago and I'm almost in tears. So glad to find your style/prod quality. I'll be taking heaps of reference and inspiration from you so much.
Incredible visual storytelling as always! As a complement to this lens, you should look into the Voigtlander 23mm 1.2 for Fuji x mount. It’s got a ton of that vintage character in a tiny package. Keep up the awesome vids!
Was just going to say Voightlander seems to be trying this with Fuji. Putting in the CPU contacts makes it so much more valuable on an X-Pro body since it'll show proper frame lines. I can see why companies are hesitant though, that lens got dragged in a ton of reviews for being a "character" lens at that cost, even if that's what a lot of fuji shooters might want.
@@RichardStroffolino I’m really happy with their 23mm. It’s lived on my xpro3 all summer. Gives me the exact look I seek but yes it’s not for everyone. But I feel that most fuji shooters would be happy with the character.
6:30 You could get the Voigtlander 23mm f1.2 - although it's a manual focus lens, it's small, compact and actually has electronic contacts, and has tons of the vintage look and character that Voigtlander is known for. Also, do you prefer the Fuji 35mm f1.4 or the Zeiss 32mm? Amazing video as always!
There is something special about this... channel. This is the fastest I have subscribed in a long time. Watching this felt pleasantly other-worldly. The story you tell about this lens is inspiring as a photographer, but this video as a whole is inspiring on a whole other level.
Most amazing lens. I got my Fuji X-T3 back in the summer of 2020 and this was my first prime lens. Suddenly in May 2021 I sold my Fuji Gear and used Panasonic because of video. But then I missed this lens so much I sold all my gear and first bought this lens in the summer of 21 and then a X-T3 body again. The look it gives you is amazing, especially with the Kodachrome 64 simulation.
bro this video was absolutely incredible. Music choice, crisp perfect vocal, clips, your effects throughout the video. I'm completely stunned by the amount of work you have put into this. wow.
I bought into the fuji x system in 2013 when I couldn't afford a Leica. I5 years later I was able to buy a Leica M-D which I still absolutely love but my favourite lens of all time is the Fuji XF35. I never found it too slow and it was pretty noisy but the character always blew me away. Great to see an honest review of the true value of this lens, love it!
I just got a new xe4 and was struggling to choose my first lense. Watched this and the decision was easily made. Thanks. Love the video too, great production
@@ville2536 16mm is quite hefty lens for such small body as X-E4. 18, 27, 35 and 50 will be more comfortable. There are also good and comapct Sigma 30mm and 56mm f/1.4, but without aperture ring. If size and weight are not an issue, the more inexpensive Sigma 16mm f/1.4 can also be considered.
I fully agree with you on the negative trajectory of their design philosophy. I actually got into Fujifilm for the compact lenses. This and the 18f2 were the first ones I bought. Unfortunately now they seem to want to pour all their resources into coming 4th place in the full frame pro market, when most pros still turn their noses up at aps-c. I wish they would go back to their roots, even if they get get bullied for being the "poor man's Leica". I miss compact, high quality cameras, with great ergonomics. I was sad to see that the X-E4 has less than 3 fn buttons, and no focus mode switch. A lot of us came over for the buttons and dial user experience. Plus, overall portability is at its worst. The EOS R is even lighter and smaller than the X-T4. Sony have the A7C, and new small primes. The new Z30 looks miniscule. - And here I am, just waiting on old Fujifilm to stop trying to break up with me. 😂
Just bought the lens a few days ago in Tokyo and I love it even more than I had could have imagined. I would have never considered it without your video, Thank you!
I have this lens and agree that it's superb. It's not difficult to make it weather resistant. Put the camera and lens into a plastic bag - preferably transparent such as a shower cap. Then place the lens hood over the bag - trapping the shower cap / bag. Then, (carefully) using a craft knife, remove the portion of the shower cap / bag from in front of the lens.
A friend just turned me onto you. I am amazed! What a refreshing approach on GEAR REVIEW! This is a MUST WATCH for anyone trying to develop their storytelling.
Casey, I really love the way you see and edit colors on your photos. I want to get better at color in photography too. Could you please make a video about developing color skills or maybe recommend me something that you used to improve your color editing? Books, courses, tips, anything. Thank you for you videos, I always happy to find out that you posted new video! It’s like a new episode of favorite series, visual is outstanding!
I started watching your videos for the Fujinon lens reviews. Now, I don't even watch anymore. I just listen, and youre an effing artist. ✨ The sound alone is too good! Keep up the amazing work!
Interesting video ... and the visual storytelling style here is simply SUPERB. One question about this lens and the images it produces: was the light blooms seen in many images you shown here is the product of post-processing, or was it really the optical characteristic of this lens? Cause I like it. It reminds me of my vintage lenses (40s, 50s, and 70s era lenses) which tend to have similar imperfections due to the limited coating and lens technology at that time
Two part comment. I was extremely high when you review came on and thought my speakers were going crazy but realized it was your editing style. Very immersive and matched the tone and feel the fuji gives, so well done. So I've always been conflicted between fujifilm and Sony... Went with Sony due to the amount of lenses and eco system and realized that's what's missing completely in the Sony line up. Not one lens that I have used/ seen has that "character" maybe some zeiss lenses and funny enough the cheaper Neewer lens that seem to have a coating on the lens. But u nailed it completely, this emphasis on optical perfection by manufacturers have made them lose sight of creating a lens that has a "feel and mood" shooting straight from the lens. I'm not the best editor and still learning but the look of the fujifilm in addition to this lens looks amazing.
2:28 "I'm just drawn to this lens and the look that it produces"....i have to admit that i'm just drawn to this review and the look that it produces : ) .....Really it is probably my favorite review, so artistic, the music, the mix of photos and video, the whole atmosphere in it managed to perfectly convey why you are so attracted to this lens. Congratulations
I just got this lens and already liking it. I have 50mm f2 and it's a great lens that I've used for a lot of portraits but you're right about the newer lenses missing a certain something
This is the video that made me buy this lens last year. Another lens that has character and tends to go under the radar very often, is the Zeiss 55mm 1.8 for Sony. The more the years go by, the more I love that lens
DUDE! Absolutely love your channel! It truly has a feeling and a look that I feel drawn too, it’s not just you talking about products, each video is an absolute masterpiece
Wow. Wow. Wow. This video just completely stopped me in my tracks. I had to watch the whole thing. The smooth switch in the beginning from regular narrator to the alternate “character” was such a chilling introduction, and having then both exist simultaneously is so jarring in the best way possible. Every time the character switched I got chills. I also absolutely love the aesthetic here. The color grading is top tier. The B-Roll is amazing. All the scenes are consistent with the aesthetic, like the video is shot within another worlds military compound. This was just so refreshing and unique - standing ovation coming from me. Subscribed immediately.
I left Fuji [now back to Nikon FX DSLRs] after ten years, acquiring 6 X bodies and 9 XF lenses early in that time yet I can not in all honesty part with the XF35mm f1.4R. It with my X-E1 was my first Fuji purchase and will keep along with the X-Pro2 where that lens really shines. People years ago thought I was nuts when I alone said that this lens has a certain magic, now fast forward to recent time my words from back then are now validated. I found the original XF18mm f2 pancake to have similar character at wider apertures, especially when shooting b&w. That was my second XF lens purchase in 2012 and still use from time to time.
Man YT isn’t pushing your videos to my feed for some reason, I thought you dropped off the face of the earth for months but you actually have videos! Your cinematography is so stunning. I watched the entire ad sequence in the middle too, that was so creative!
this video convinced me to buy this lens and in just a couple of days have taken some pictures of my children which are so beautiful that it's made me upset that I didn't capture their lives with it sooner. thank you GxAce
It was my favorite Fujifilm lens for sure (currently using Canon RF) Other lenses that I liked were 16mm f 1.4 and 90mm f 2. Those three just had something in them. 35mm f 1.4 is something special indeed. That "look" just has something in it. It gives photos certain "old and slightly imperfect" look that no other Fuji lens can produce. If I ever return to Fujifilm X system, I will definitely get this lens again
when i was still heavy into fujifilm for photography I sold all my lenses and only had the 35mm 1.4 since after getting it i used nothing else. sometimes i think about buying another fuji for my travel photography and get the 35mm 1.4 again. its just so special
I love it when you come up on my recommended. I keep it that way bc I feel like your videos come to me at the right time. I also don’t wanna over stimulate myself with this gold. It’s a production every time. Every time.
1000% it’s special, i sold all my fuji gear years ago before the bodies caught up with the glass and tbh the only lens i miss more than anything was that 35 1.4 it made me love photography again
I really love the images I get with this lens. I just finished a summer long project of visiting about a dozen or so county fairs & local festivals all around my home town. 90% shot on this lens -- really has a great look to it that was perfect for this project.
@@seed157 Normally I shoot in raw & then get the look in post with capture one. I do occasionally bake in a look (usually classic chrome or astia) but I like working with a sorta blank slate in post later on.
I own the 18 f2 and the 35mm 1.4. Bought the 23mm a couple weeks because I learn to love my wife’s x100s and decided to sell the 35. Then I remembered to rewatch this video. I just cancelled the eBay listing. Thank you.
Thanks for this. I've heard a lot of other channels dog on this lens for it's slow autofocus. Though I'm aware most YT channels these days are seeking perfection and video performance. Nice to hear my instincts about this lens were correct.
Such a good little lens. Traveled through Thailand and Cambodia when it first came out with the X-Pro1 and loved it minus the AF performance. Would love to see how well it works on the newer bodies.
I've always had cameras with not amazing AF so im super used to just using single point and expecting to fight with it a bit, so pretty much any lens is useable to me hahahah.
I had this lens before and sold it. Now I have one in the post. This video has more than convinced me I made the right choice. I was expecting a 'channel' with the usual ego-maniac camera nerd but found this great cinematic piece instead.
I don't mind manual focus tbh, I just wish there were maybe a few more options for certain focal lengths for native mount manual focus lenses like those TTArtisan put out that are still high-quality metal construction. I shoot a lot with vintage Minolta and Pentax lenses, which work great for what I want, but the adapter ring when used on a body like a GX85 (especially with how Pentax is so long of a distance for the focal plane of the sensor to match) can get kind of bulky for something that is traditionally small like a 50mm. I've been using TTArtisan for a while to get the focal lengths I want (40mm-85mm more or less) in a smaller package while keeping a lot of the look and feel of my older lenses. They're generally cheap enough to have equivalent focal lengths (for the most part) for both my APS-C and MFT bodies. For full frame I have a Pentax K-1 and it's all native pentax k anyway. I did have a Pentax KP that I regret selling because that body did great with vintage lenses (the smc-a series even had aperture priority working for those that use it).
I agree. This lens is the only Fuji lens I would never sell again. It has character. I also tested the f2 version and the new 33mm from a friend. The f2 version has a fast AF and weather sealing, but has way less character, is one stop less. Furthermore, the 1,4 is sharper, has a nicer 3D pop and sharpness roll off, even when stopped down to f2 and has way better looking corner sharpness when stopped down than the f2 ever reaches. And it has somehow the right amount of flaring, hard to describe. you can have beautiful flares and there is a tiny bit of halation around highlights (even without Diffusion filter) without becoming milky in the rest of the image. The Bokeh is not the softest, but instantaneously recognizable. The new 33mm is actually a nice lens, but it loses a lot of the uniqueness of the old 35mm. It's bigger, heavier, and weather sealed. And it lost some character, somehow it is too clean. Sharpness, resolution, bokeh, AF speed is great. If you want a perfect image you get it. But it doesn't stand out anymore. And there is the 56mm. It is true, the look is different to the 35mm. And as a portrait lens I also appreciate that it has a different Bokeh. But also this lens is special. I tested it against the Sigma 56mm 1.4. The Sigma has a lot of benefits, it is significantly smaller and lighter and weather sealed. It has slightly better contrast while rendering gorgeous colors and is for me better suited for everyday shots and travel (the Fuji 56mm notoriously sucking dust into the system while focusing). But the rendition of the Fuji. Just so bokehlicious. Even though the Bokeh balls have some outlining and the Sigma is perfectly neutral, somehow the Fuji creates a dreamy background that makes the portrait pop from the background. For most people I would recommend the Sigma, but the Fuji 56mm is so good for Portrait! Even though it is just slightly faster, it really feels like a full frame experience with it.
I love character so much that film has been my goto for a decade now. Digital for paid work. Bam! Bam! Dude your Bladerunner vibe is killing it. Just subscribed.
I've owned several XF lenses over the years..they were all great. For multiple reasons I sold all of them and the 35mm 1.4 is the only one that I couldn't let go of
This is my absolute all time favourite lens and i use it for everything! Portraits, street, weddings. it's the slowest lens you can imagine and it misses shots. it's frustrating! But when it works... god damn, it's beautiful!
Brilliant Videoi bro! When I switched to the Fuji system with the Xt4, I was adameant with myself to spend whatever needed to get this Lens. I DO NOT REGRET IT! ✌🏻
I completely agree!! This lens is pure magic. Just watching your video makes me regret selling that lens. I sold off most of my Fuji gear to invest in more Leica kit, and although I'm very happy with my Leica setup, I do miss the combination of a X-Pro 2 or X-Pro 3 with this lens. I look back often at portraits and other images I captured with this lens, and there's something that draws me to it. I really didn't like the new 33mm f1.4 and agree that this lens is WAY better, even if it's noisy as hell. I think when you have it on a modern Fuji body, the AF is fast enough for me. I probably wouldn't shoot sports with it, but for street and portrait work, it's perfect. Fuji I think has lost there way a bit, when it comes to their newer stuff, which I think tries to compete with Canon and Sony, and I think they had a really good niche approach that they should have continued, similar to Leica, rather than try and compete with Canon and Sony which are completely different animals that we can appreciate for a different type of camera. Anyways...I'm starting to think maybe I should pick up a used copy of that 35mm f1.4 and pair it with an X-E4 or something. :). I really do miss that lens...a lot.
I dropped my 35mm f1.4 and can't use manual aperture or focus anymore. Maybe I should take it apart. I love this lens as it is so light and I think you are bang on on what direction Fujifilm should take. I hate bulky heavy lenses. Fujifilm need to innovate in the more compact character lenses. There's obviously a market for character lenses when you look at the multitude of Chinese manual lenses available on the market. Fujifilm was the best at finding the sweet spot for their lenses! Hopefully they are listening to your video!
I have used over 8 other Fuji lenses over the years. Just picked this one up and can't believe I have been missing out. It has been stuck on my x-pro 3 for months and I'm a 16-23mm range shooter. I agree with others here, no need for the Voightlander Nokton I have been considering.
Born to be imperfect!.. Loved my 35/1.4 to take portraits, but it's not what I shoot mainly, swapped it for a more compact 35/2. OG 35/1.4 is a great lens!
You no joke saved me from getting rid of my Fuji Xt3 and just going full modern with my A7r4. I had never had a fuji lens before this lens and was rocking an ef adapter on the xt3 and it just didn't feel fun if that makes sense?? But after I got as you called it "the only fuju lens you really need" WOW did everything change. I don't know why but it's like the title "there's something just special about this lens". Love all that you do, excited to see more!! My wallet is not though because you make me spend a lot of money😂
I gotta say I just discovered your channel (thru this video) an hour ago and I haven’t stopped watching since. Beautiful content!👏 Very inspiring; makes me want to do better with my camera lol. Keep up the AMAZING work!
One of the first video's I saw from you and I remember craving this lens since then. And finally bought a 2nd hand one an hour ago. Only used it for 20 or so shots. Already amazed. It is true this lens is as cool as you make it sound ;)
I've never used this lens, but I certainly agree that over the years I have gear that I just like better. I've always loved the Nikon FM-2n, the feel in the hand, the mechanical action, the look of it. I loved shooting with the Mamiya C330, partly I like composing square but also the camera itself. In digital I've always liked the look of the Tamron 28-75/2.8. Not the sharpest, not the best built lens, but I love the look, and I can't explain why.
Discovered your channel a few weeks back, ended up picking up the 35mm F1.4, a Fuji X Pro1 and the Glimmerglass 1 all based on your recommendations. Keep up the great work, your videos are brilliant!
As always, loved the video. Yours is actually the first Patreon I've ever supported and I don't regret it. I've enjoyed your channel for some time, and you were a big influence in me getting into Fuji with your XT-3 video. I do hope to get the 35mm 1.4 some day; I started out with the f2 lenses when I got my Fuji cameras for the size and weather sealing. While I understand, to some extent, the direction of lens production at this point, I agree with you that I wish they'd also put out some new less "perfect" lenses. That being said, Fuji is still making decisions that other manufacturers like Sony and Canon wouldn't dare to do (i.e., the X-Pro line), so I can't be too upset at them just yet.
Thank you so much Caleb, seriously! I've been blown away that people are willing to support me over there. It's been fantastic, and I'm very humbled. I'm glad I was able to help you decide on the XT3! Yeah, out of all the current camera companies Fuji is definitely making the coolest choices!
Last comment, the crux of this video really hits home at the 6:01min mark for Fuji users and Fujifilm need to hear it! - character and personality over clinical optical performance - only having this lens at the moment, I can honestly say without a doubt my next lens will either be Chinese as in 7Artisans, Laowa or Mitakon or yet again buying the Fuji to M mount adapter to only go vintage lens dumpster diving at my local camera guy's store! PS:- The author makes a point, check out the new 56mm MKII compared to the MKI - better optically? Probably, bigger and bulkier? Yes..

Vintage feeling glass with autofocus seems like a good idea for a trend in the future, combining the best of both worlds.
I'm surprise this hasn't really happened yet.
Exactly, but with a clutch for manual focus! I'd be so happy!

I really love mine for portraits. The character of this lens is kind of unmatched, this is why Fuji still sell this lens together with the new 33 f1.4.
his story about this lens is artistly amazing
Ok, is this magical quality so many speak of, achieved only when shot at max or any aperture?
@@segzeeman7356 Just my two cents but the pixie dust starts to shower down for me at f4-f5.6 on a relatively sunny day so ISO can sit below 800 or so..
This lens has so much character that I think every copy deserves their own name. I haven't had such strong feeling about any camera or lens since my Rollei and Minolta days. What's even better is that I don't even think about buying another x-mount lens anymore - nothing is even close and this will stay on my x-pro 3 permanently until it's next camera body.
I got the XE1 and 35/1.4 back in 2013/14, and found I like this combo the best,,,, could be the 50mm FL,but the wider lenses don't look so cool for me.
always feels special to find a channel like this, the quality to be 50 times it's size, grinding away. instant subscribe and binge session.
I appreciate that! Hope you enjoy :D
@@GxAce YOU HAVE 48K WTF? Good work dude
The style and atmosphere you create in your videos is absolutely incredible and unmatched.
Thanks so much, Connor! :)
Hands down my favorite photography-focused UA-cam channel out there.
If you ever get the manual focus conversion done successfully please make a video on how! I've seen someone else try but IIRC aperture controls were electronic, so you're either stuck in f1.4 if you disable the electronics, or get an error message that wont let you use the lens if you leave them funtional.
Oh cool! Do you have a link to this? Yeah you would need to make a manual aperture for it for sure. I will definitely be making a video :)
I got it with my first X-E1 and still have it after selling all my Fuji bodies (waiting for an x-pro4) It is that good
It is noisy, slow to autofocus compared to new ones, extends externally and the rubber lens cover fall off after the material gives in over the years….
Thank you so much Michael! Word like these really help to motivate me, I really appreciate it!
I would say look at all Voightlander lineup :)
voigtlander 23mm is tiny??
Was just going to say Voightlander seems to be trying this with Fuji. Putting in the CPU contacts makes it so much more valuable on an X-Pro body since it'll show proper frame lines. I can see why companies are hesitant though, that lens got dragged in a ton of reviews for being a "character" lens at that cost, even if that's what a lot of fuji shooters might want.
@@prntm926 it’s smaller than the Fuji 23mm f2 and the 35mm f2 and it’s over a stop brighter
@@RichardStroffolino I’m really happy with their 23mm. It’s lived on my xpro3 all summer. Gives me the exact look I seek but yes it’s not for everyone. But I feel that most fuji shooters would be happy with the character.
I still dont understand how underated your channel is, you should have 10 billons fuji subscribers.... love every upload.
Wow! What a rollercoaster haha. Glad you got the lens back and are loving it!
bro this video was absolutely incredible. Music choice, crisp perfect vocal, clips, your effects throughout the video. I'm completely stunned by the amount of work you have put into this. wow.
Loved this lens when I had it, nowadays I use the newer 33 1.4 with a glimmerglass filter, also really lovely!
I love how your videos take me to “Bladerunner” every time. I love your work. 🇿🇦
I just got a new xe4 and was struggling to choose my first lense. Watched this and the decision was easily made. Thanks. Love the video too, great production
Ohhhh i was thinking this or the 27mm or 16mm 1.4
@@ville2536 16mm is quite hefty lens for such small body as X-E4. 18, 27, 35 and 50 will be more comfortable. There are also good and comapct Sigma 30mm and 56mm f/1.4, but without aperture ring. If size and weight are not an issue, the more inexpensive Sigma 16mm f/1.4 can also be considered.
Regardless of your gear, this gem of a human being puts so much love and passion into the videos.. it inspires you to go make stuff.
Well done.
Agreed. This is the lens I always use. No other Fuji lens comes close to it.
Interesting video ... and the visual storytelling style here is simply SUPERB.
One question about this lens and the images it produces: was the light blooms seen in many images you shown here is the product of post-processing, or was it really the optical characteristic of this lens?
Cause I like it.
It reminds me of my vintage lenses (40s, 50s, and 70s era lenses) which tend to have similar imperfections due to the limited coating and lens technology at that time
If I had to guess, he’s using the Glimmerglass 1 filter with it. He has a video specifically talking about that filter.
This is my favorite lens. Have been using it for every project for years.
I got this lens and use it with the X-E1 and a haze filter. I got the "film" look pretty dialed in. Awesome piece of gear!
Very nice! Yeah that's gotta be an awesome little combo!
Wow. Wow.
I couldn’t agree more. It lets you realise your vision really well. Your image making is superb!
Both the video and sample imagery here are visually stunning. Best UA-cam recommendation in a years.
I am rarely impressed by a UA-cam production…but this was extremely impressive. Excellent work all around.
Every time.
One of the best 35mm 1.4 videos I've seen. I love this lens so much I bought it twice!
1000% it’s special, i sold all my fuji gear years ago before the bodies caught up with the glass and tbh the only lens i miss more than anything was that 35 1.4 it made me love photography again
I'm not that into photography or cinematography but I am in love with the aesthetic of your videos
Love this cyberpunk aesthetic of camera reviews. Subscribed!
I really love the images I get with this lens. I just finished a summer long project of visiting about a dozen or so county fairs & local festivals all around my home town. 90% shot on this lens -- really has a great look to it that was perfect for this project.
Do you usually use recipes when shooting with this lens?
@@seed157 Normally I shoot in raw & then get the look in post with capture one. I do occasionally bake in a look (usually classic chrome or astia) but I like working with a sorta blank slate in post later on.
I own the 18 f2 and the 35mm 1.4. Bought the 23mm a couple weeks because I learn to love my wife’s x100s and decided to sell the 35. Then I remembered to rewatch this video. I just cancelled the eBay listing. Thank you.
I want to get new to the Fuji system. Should I buy the 35mm 1.4 or the f2 as the first lens?
Thanks for this. I've heard a lot of other channels dog on this lens for it's slow autofocus. Though I'm aware most YT channels these days are seeking perfection and video performance. Nice to hear my instincts about this lens were correct.
Dear god, this video is a work of art. Recently bought the lens and it's beautiful
Such a good little lens. Traveled through Thailand and Cambodia when it first came out with the X-Pro1 and loved it minus the AF performance. Would love to see how well it works on the newer bodies.
Works great with newer bodies! Have an X-s10 and it’s more than quick enough
I've always had cameras with not amazing AF so im super used to just using single point and expecting to fight with it a bit, so pretty much any lens is useable to me hahahah.
The lens AF speed is leaps and bounds ahead of where it was when used on an X-T3 or newer.
For multiple reasons I sold all of them and the 35mm 1.4 is the only one that I couldn't let go of
Hands down my favourite lens in my bag. It was practically bolted to my X-t3
Recently bought this lens. It is pretty awesome, compact and just plain cool.
I know right? Such a cool little lens.
Your Videos have such an indescribable vibe, it's so easy to appreciate them
are there any lens that I can buy for sony a7iii that will give this similar type of look??
Immaculate pics !!
This is my absolute all time favourite lens and i use it for everything! Portraits, street, weddings. it's the slowest lens you can imagine and it misses shots. it's frustrating! But when it works... god damn, it's beautiful!
incredible amount of work, style, universe, storytellng put for a lens review, a pleasure to watch.
Definitely there is something special about this channel! I love the quality of your work.
Brilliant Videoi bro! When I switched to the Fuji system with the Xt4, I was adameant with myself to spend whatever needed to get this Lens. I DO NOT REGRET IT! ✌🏻
Thank you! hahah that's awesome! Glad you are enjoying the lens.
The audio design in all your videos give them a feel like no other!
Perhaps the best video presentation of camera lenses i have ever seen.. very inspired🖤
Honestly I thought I was going to watch just another lens review. I was not expecting what I just watched. 10/10
This realm + your presets give big blade runner vibes and I love it.
I absolutely agree, I gravitate toward this lens too, and I don’t know why. Great video
Last comment, the crux of this video really hits home at the 6:01min mark for Fuji users and Fujifilm need to hear it! - character and personality over clinical optical performance - only having
this lens at the moment, I can honestly say without a doubt my next lens will either be Chinese as in 7Artisans, Laowa or Mitakon or yet again buying the Fuji to M mount adapter to only go vintage lens dumpster diving at my local camera guy's store! PS:- The author makes a point, check out the new 56mm MKII compared to the MKI - better optically? Probably, bigger and bulkier? Yes..
