An original favorite of my friends and family: "jack could have survived rose" (obviously a play on a jack rose)
      1.5 oz Applejack
      .5 oz licor 43
      .25 oz allspice dram
      .5 oz cranberry juice
      .75 oz lemon juice
      2x dashes of ango
2x dashes of a nut bitters
Shaken and served up in a coupe.

Bourbon might not be a whisky, but it most certainly is a whiskey. 😉

    • @CrusinVK

There's no "might" involved at all.... It's definitely not a Whisky.
It is most definitely a "Whiskey"

@@CrusinVK Actually that is debatable. Two examples…Maker’s Mark and Old Forester both spell it Whisky.

    • @Wahlrusberg
      @Wahlrusberg 4 дні тому +1

@@CrusinVK 'Whisky' and 'whiskey' are the same thing, i.e. a distilled spirit made from a fermented grain mash. It's just spelling. There are no requirements that has to be met for it to be one or the other. There are a lot of bourbons that spell it 'whisky', including Maker's Mark, Old Forester and George Dickel. American and Irish distilleries generally spell it 'whiskey' while Scottish distilleries and the rest of the world call it 'whisky'.

Do you know how one can tell someone has truly "made it" and is a highly successful "UA-camr"? When they show how relaxed and comfortable they are in their own skin when creating content. I have been a fan of yours the entire time, watching all your videos, growing my amateur mixology hobby, all due to you. But for some reason in this episode, you really look relaxed, confident and comfortable. Bravo, and a great episode indeed. Four new ones to try! Well three - who hasn't made an Old Fashioned. In Louisville I learned an old fashioned recipe called the "sweater weather Old Fashioned". 2 oz bourbon/rye, .5 oz maple syrup, half bar spoon of vanilla bean paste (think...dime size), ango bitters. Stir, pour over a rock, garnish/stir with cinnamon stick. It's incredible.

Been planning for this exact thing since I stumbled on a cocktail smoking kit earlier in the year. It came with cherry, apple, and mesquite woods to start. But then my small torch quit, so now I need to replace it. I was inspired by a local cocktail creation called “The Smoking Gun”. Basically an old fashioned, with two major enhancements. The Bulleitt bourbon was washed with browned butter first. Second was that it was served in a mason jar, with the smoke piped in at the finish, then sealed in with a screw down lid. You then had the option to either simply remove the lid, making for a lighter smoke flavor in the drink, or by shaking it first, infusing a heavier smoke profile. Really fun, and delicious to boot!

I use a spiced semi-rich turbinado syrup infused with cinnamon, elderberry, and cardamom, and smoked bitters from a local whiskey distillery. The Bourbon Renewal is excellent. I like to use Demerara instead of simple syrup. It is more rich and I think makes it a little more appropriate for fall time.
My wife and I came up with a smoked Applerita last year that is pretty good.
      .75oz Anejo
      .75oz Reposado
      1.5oz mulled apple cider
      .5oz lime juice
      .25oz agave syrup
Shake and serve in a kosher salt and cinnamon sugar rimmed rocks glass with several small ice cubes.
Garnish with a thin apple slice. Cinnamon stick and star anise.
Finally smoke the drink with applewood chips.

Man, TASTY cocktails. And I think I even got all the ingredients for them. Hmm, maybe not Cr. de C. Ok, the rest!

Imagine my surprise when I opened my copy of Regarding Cocktails to make the Fallback, and my bookmark was on Spring Forward… 😅

About 45 years ago, one of my best friends, and who's still a friend today, and a Scotch drinker, then and now, was listening to Steely Dan's "Deacon Blues" for the first time, and heard them sing, "Drink Scotch whisky all night long....". He exclaimed, "Scotch isn't whisky!" So, I said, "Sit down, my son...." And I didn't even drink the stuff.

My preferred method of smoking a whiskey cocktail is to use a half ounce nice smokey Scotch, with an ounce and a half of bourbon, or rye.

I’ve been thinking that something wrong with me when I’m doing my cocktails. Sometimes it’s a mess, easy spill something, while in the videos it’s always smooth and clean.
After that moments of the bourbon renewal, I’d be less worried 😅

I'd still like to hear your take on a "Fall Back" cocktail! You can call it Anders' Autumn
