Let me tell you something, the two cocktail videos got me into a deep dark rabbithole into the history and the art of mixology. It's just so fascinating how much lore a profession which at the surface seems so insignificant has and how much tie in it has with much of the historical events which we are taught in school, and how much it can tie in with how our society has shifted over the decades and continues to.
FINALLY, I'M LOOKING FOR A JEFF SOLOMON COMMENT!!! LIKE WHAT HAPPEN⁉️⁉️⁉️ I was surprised it was not Jeff... like yeah this carl was ok, but I missed Jeff relaxed humor. I mean carl was like a bartender you order cocktail, ask you question then give you the drink & move on...Jeff would be like you sit on the bar he'll smile & sell you a drink, give a joke with the drink & sell you a different drink & the loop goes on!!! I don't know Jeff's like robin Williams or will Smith dropping comment & funny opinion on cocktails!!! 😂😆🤪😜🤣 (I hope he didn't hit someone)
Got a Sazerac at the Absinthe House in Nawlins in '94. Barkeep put a tot of Pastis in the glass and sent it spinning a good 8' in the air before dashing it out and decanting the drink into it. I purely love you tossed the glass
I want to comment before I finish, first because I appreciate your suggesting a Boulevardier as a canvas to experiment with (DC bartender name of Rose taught me to add a barspoon of Benedictine), but mostly because I'm past bedtime and may not finish. Amigo, I truly appreciate your approach. If you have a channel of your own, I would follow. Been tracking woman and Asian bartenders, but would equally like to track Black bartenders of historical significance, so thank for that bit on Stone sours. Keep up the good work, keep the faith, and be well.
the mixing cocktails video was already my favorite on this channel and i was just watching it again for perhaps the tenth time and so hoping you'd do another like it, and then this one showed up! absolutely excellent, please do more drink-mixing videos!
Love a good cocktail drink, and this guy knows how to make them. They go down easy but hit hard..... I stick to straight - neat pours after one cocktail. This guy is the real deal, no crappy shelf bar mix.
In the Brooklyn, of you're in a state with sane alcohol laws, Torani Amer is the same product. Based on my research into substitutions, 3 parts Amaro Ramazotti, 1 part Aperol, and 2 dashes Orange bitters per oz comes close.
I once drank 9 coffee and Bailey’s. I had an English class the next day at 8. I made the class but early morning before I thought it to be a good idea to type (yes a typewriter) on water color paper. My teacher looked at my paper then at my hungover face and said never again. I got an A on the paper (which I still have)
I thought the original video got taken down or something, then I read the specification of *Whiskey* cocktails. Now we need all other kinds of cocktails as well, make the biggest video archive of alcohol mixing.
Hey, French person here. Your pronounciation for the "Vieux Carré" is not that bad actually. =) But if you want to make it sound more french, you could insist more on the 'i' in vieux, and separate more the word in two syllabus (vi-eux). Very nice video by the way, I learned a lot of thing, and I think I'll adapt some of those cocktails at home. ^^
there are so many ways this concept can be expanded!!!!! instead of just the commentary you can invite a guest. Doesn't have to be a popular personality or anything. You can bring the grandpa from checking the kitchen gadgets or just some random person.(Most preferably someone with a unique taste to them or just old people. They usually have so much to say) If you are concerned that the video might end up being too long, you can prepare a set of questions to ask them like how they really got into doing what they are doing, how their parents reacted to them doing this job initially (like being a bar tender is usually not something a parent might think their kid might end up doing) when they first discovered their passion etc:- by asking questions in between, this video can become a bit more personal. If you do end up implementing it, I just want you to tell the grandpa from testing kitchen gadgets that i love him sooooooooooo much and given him a little bonus for this idea. Thank You
As someone whose first alcoholic drink was the Old Fashioned" how this guy is doing it is pretty solid. Imo the OF" isn't a complex cocktail to make,it just takes effort especially at the end with the orange peel. But once done right,it's a fantastic drink!
after learning how to slice every fruit, how to fillet every fish, how to chop every vegetable, how to crack every nut, how to mix every cocktail, how to open every shellfish, how to make every coffee, how to use every japanese knife, how to make every pasta, how to frost every cake, how to cut every cheese, how to butcher every bird, how to shape every bread, how to eat every insect, how to grind every spice, how to slice every meat, how to use every utensil, and how to make every sushi, i'm proud to learn how to mix every whiskey cocktail!
Some things in the video are not super "traditional", such as the old fashioned being stirred and not built, but I hope this goes to show that you don't necessarily need to be "right" in every way when enjoying cocktails. Stir your old fashioned. Maybe try your martini actually 'shaken and not stirred'. If there is a way that deviates from the original method and it tastes good, then thats another right way to do it.
Good point, but isn't it necessary to double his bitters quantity because he is using a japanese dasher? The other dashers (i.e. the small angostura bottle) are dropping much more bitters ...
@@katran_2393 Eh he's like 80-90% on the mark. At least he didn't just pour everything in like a slob and forget the orange peel that adds the fragrance and adds to the flavor.
You need to specify what to use then. Because even though the cocktail needs bourbon. There are so many brands,if you say nothing then the bartender will just go a step lower and use Fireball" which everybody knows that's a sweetened whiskey.
@@Off-with-a-bang but fireball isn't whiskey. It's a liquer. According to the body that governs alcohol in the US, it can't even be called whiskey legally because of all the flavorings and sugar added, so they have to call it a distilled spirit specialty. Legally, whiskey can only contain grains and water, and needs to be at least 40 proof. Fireball is neither. And it's not even bourbon based before they add all the flavorings and water it down. An old fashioned is supposed to be bourbon based. And they can even use the bottom shelf, which is way cheaper than fireball, but it should be bourbon. Bourbon needs to be at least 51%corn, aged in new oak, enter the barrel at no more than 62.5% alcohol, and released at no less than 40% alcohol. None of that applies to flavored liqueurs

Please make this into a series! I’d like to know every Tequila, Vodka, Gin, and Rum cocktails.
Epicurious did a video on how to mix every cocktail a few years ago. I would like more in depth ones but that is a good place to start.

Is there any chance Karl and Jeff (The other guy from an older cocktail video) might do an episode together? Imagine how awesome would that be.

I always make my old fashioned using lagavulin 16, a scotch whisky so not as traditional as bourbon but so much smoother

Whenever someone wants a spirit forward drink that’s in the style of an Old Fashioned I always make them a Monte Carlo. It’s never failed to impress
