I love it when people describe drinks in ratios because then I can use whatever unit of measurement I want to make the drink small or large! Great cocktail and great video as always! Stay warm!
Just want to let you know how much I appreciate this channel. About to hold another cocktail night with friends and no matter where else I look, I always come back to you for recipes. I love the way you make these videos, and you've brought a lot of joy and exploration into our lives.
Hey there Anders and Az. Just want to say that I’ve always just had my spirits on the rocks. Just didn’t seem worth it to mix them. I found this channel in the summer, and you opened my eyes to the fun and interesting world of cocktails. Now I’m hooked! Your delivery and presentation match up well with my brain and sense of humor. So…. Thank you!
Its hard to get all of them because alot of it comes and gos. I liked the 15 year old rum they used to have priced at about 23$ but they dont seem to make it anymore. The burbons are hard to find too because they ussaly sell quick.
Love this one! I had Pikesville which is a little stronger than Rittenhouse so I ended up upping the Benedictine to 0.75oz and it came out beautiful! Happy Holidays Anders!
Was just reading about this yesterday in cocktail codex. I want to try it! CC also mention lemon zest is best to expressed and rub on sides of glass but not on the rim.
I'm so glad more people are discovering that Benedictine is a home bartender's best friend! Home bartending is about getting the maximum flavor in your glass with the minimum effort - and benedictine in my MVP.
I'm sorry that it was too cold in the studio for Az to appear on camera in her outside coat, but it was nice to hear her opinion! I like also that you kept a B-roll blooper in for the end roll! Entertaining and educational over Saturday morning coffee!
Thanks you for the recipe! I will have to try this drink sometime this weekend. I bought a bottle of Benedictine for a different recipe you had a while back and wondering what else I could use it with. Looks tasty and I like the idea of the ice for dilution to ensure it isn’t too sweet - I think the added water will make sure it doesn’t get cloying by the end. Excited to try it out!
This was really good. I decided to make this and the Vieux Carre because why not. While I love the Vieux Carre, the lemon oil expressed on the Monte Carlo is perfection.
Hey Anders, Sipping on this looking at our tree, and it is excellent, nice and christmassy, but after a few sips i squeezed just a bit of lemon juice straight in and stirred, i think a bit of acid does amp it up a bit in a nice way. Worth a try next time you make it!
Hi Anders…nothing like a good whiskey cocktail served as a night cap on a cold winters night!…Tis the season and well done!🤗🤗🤗❤️❤️❤️ Have a great weekend and as always “CHEERS”🥃🥃😁😁
Had my first Monte Carlo this week at a traditional old school steakhouse in Hollywood. Wanted a variation on the usual Manhattan and it really hit the mark. This will definitely go into the drink rotation.
This has been one of my favorite easy drinks to make for a long time now, and I’m glad you compared it to an old fashioned at the end! Definitely seems more of a riff off an old fashioned with Benedictine replacing simple syrup. When is the next time you’ll do a “I made your drinks” competition video??
A classic and one of the cocktails that let me get more use out of Benedictine after making so many Vieux Carre’s. I thought you had done this one before bc I could’ve sworn I reference your video when making one. Either way, great videos as always!
Haven't made this one in a while ... will need to rectify that. :) I agree with what you said in your tasting notes that this is more of an Old Fashioned riff (with Benedictine replacing the sugar), rather than a Manhattan riff. Similar to Rusty Nail, Fancy Free, etc.
This cocktail reminds me of the Purgatory cocktail. Here the Chartreuse (green) is added, but without the bitters. My ratios: The Purgatory * 2 ounce - Whiskey Rye * ½ oz - Chartreuse (green) * ½ oz - Benedictine * Garnish Lemon You should make a video on that one ❤
Could you please make an episode about the Coronation? I went to Harry's New York Bar in Paris today (great place BTW, highly recommended), and it was listed among their classics, but I've never heard of it and can't find a recipe for it anywhere. It's got single malt scotch, grapefruit, lemon, grenadine, angostura, and peach bitters according to their description.
Lived in a suburb of Chicago for 6 years....8th grade when we moved.....that winter it went below zero degrees F for over two weeks.....we were not allowed to go outside to play unless it was above 0 degrees. Wind chills were only -50 or so...... We could walk to school though. Stay warm!! Enjoy Hoth!! 😝
This reminds me of an old fashioned riff my old boss sent me called a Banana Bread Old Fashioned where it used Crème de Banane as the sugar element and walnut bitters. It’s a little on the sweet side but it works nicely. But I am also partial to Benedictine and other such liqueurs so I don’t mind a bit of over sweetness here and there.
we're sitting over here laughing because EVERY WEEK on saturday morning as we nurse our hangovers, my husband and i joke about how having that nightcap was a BAD idea... and here you are, encouraging us to have one. WE'LL SHOW YOU!
Funny you mention it being more like an Old Fashioned, because I regularly drink what's called an Irish Old Fashioned, which is the same recipe with Irish whiskey (2.5:1) plus orange bitters in addition to the Angostura. The recipe I found specifically called for Jameson Black Barrel, but I've been using Bushmills Red Bush which I find to be very similar (at least in this recipe) but considerably cheaper.
Just had knee surgery last month and i should be able to drink by xmas. This will be my first drink! Cant wait! Those watches look pretty sick. But ill buy from your site so you can pay for a heater, lol.
I find that when mixing a drink that's just spirit and liqueur like a rusty nail or a godfather that 3:1 seems to be the magic ratio, depending of course on the sweetness of the liqueur.
Benedictine vs Benedictine and Brady [ B and B ] ..... been along time since I have had any B & B. So, what is the difference in taste between this and the Benedictine? Would there be any advantage to making the Monte Carlo with B & B rather than Benicitne?
I made a monte Carlo last weekend. Subbed in a 1/2 oz cognac in place of part of the rye. 3:1:1. Or maybe I made a vieux care without the vermouth. Who knows. Good either way.
After seeing this video... I thought "this is similar to The Gypsy Queen"... yups Diffords Guide uses the same 3:1 ratio using Vodka. Nevertheless i made it this evening with two different Ryes... Knob Creek @ 100 proof and Templeton @ 80 proof. Spouse and I differed but its an enjoyable drink with that sweetness but not too sweet you mention. Glad to be introduced to this drink.
I do a custom thing that is a 1:1:1 => Bourbon/Aperol/Sweet Vermouth (so 1oz of each) into a shaker with ice (yes it is a sweet drink). You can vary the proportions to get what you want though. Vigorously shake for 30 seconds then serve with a twist of orange. Is there a name for this cocktail? Also, my doc took me off of migraine meds long ago and we figured out that 6oz of black coffee, 1 oz of Baileys and 1 oz of Kahlua works just as effectively.
I just drove back from a long drive from southern Oregon coast to home in central Oregon, so am rather exhausted. Shall I make this cocktail? Perhaps. In fact, I'd say a soft yes at this point; leaning towards a hard yes. I do dig Benedictine due to 'Nawlins cocktails, and this sounds fabulous. Good luck with the heating! Those Chitown sideways ice formations can be rather brutal.
Happy weekend everyone!

Bring on more of these simple ingredient cocktails
💯
"Can I interest you in a nightcap?"
"No thank you I don't wear them."
Love the simple cocktails with few ingredients!
I love it when people describe drinks in ratios because then I can use whatever unit of measurement I want to make the drink small or large! Great cocktail and great video as always! Stay warm!
Holy cow this is good! My go-to drinks have always been a Godfather or Rusty Nail, and this totally fits right in.
Just want to let you know how much I appreciate this channel. About to hold another cocktail night with friends and no matter where else I look, I always come back to you for recipes. I love the way you make these videos, and you've brought a lot of joy and exploration into our lives.

Appreciate the comment. Happy you're liking the content and trying new cocktails! Cheers
You and me both.
I’ve been looking for a reason to buy and try a bottle of Benedictine - This is it.
Benedictine rocks! If you like it, try the De La Louisianne!! It's like a Manhattan meets an old fashion.
If you get a bottle, definitely try out a Vieux Carré as well! It's another fantastic classic cocktail.
Vieux Carré is a fabulous drink but this one is a little more challenging as it calls for 5 ingredients. Give it a try. Cheers
I know i have said this before, but an episode about Kirkland branded spirits would be a fun watch
Definitely on the list. Cheers
@@johnathondickey Their London Dry Gin is positively the worst. I’ll drink Malört all day over Costco gin.
Their peated scotch is terrific and cheap! Higher ABV.
Its hard to get all of them because alot of it comes and gos. I liked the 15 year old rum they used to have priced at about 23$ but they dont seem to make it anymore. The burbons are hard to find too because they ussaly sell quick.
So?
I made it tonight. Yes, more like an Old Fashioned, but less burn from the alcohol. Delicious!
Glad this channel just hit my feed. Good stuff. Thanks!
4:26 The recipe begins
LOL love it! Wishing you both a WARM holiday. 😊
Shouts out to Az, you're camera work is consistently fantastic.
0:11 - PLEASE tell me that glass is in your merch store! That's absolutely beautiful!
Holy smokes!! Beautiful drink ❤ on our guest menu now. Thank you. 😊 hicks
Excellent cocktail. Probably my favorite
Love this one! I had Pikesville which is a little stronger than Rittenhouse so I ended up upping the Benedictine to 0.75oz and it came out beautiful! Happy Holidays Anders!
Benedictine is the Best!!!! For coctails, for health, for itself. Amazing product with a very long history and tradition. Cheers!!!
Was just reading about this yesterday in cocktail codex. I want to try it! CC also mention lemon zest is best to expressed and rub on sides of glass but not on the rim.
Thank you Anders. Learn something new every day. Coaster are otherwise know as landing pads.
Ratios are the best way to give cocktail recipes! Thank you sir 😊
I must try this! Nobody leaves Benedictine in the corner.
Totally agree! Cheers
Benedictine is one of those ingredients that I never knew how much I loved it until I tried it.
I love Benedictine.
I'm so glad more people are discovering that Benedictine is a home bartender's best friend! Home bartending is about getting the maximum flavor in your glass with the minimum effort - and benedictine in my MVP.
So, I made some last night. This is definitely my favorite old-fashioned like drink now
Had this recently for the first time during a trip to NH. It was a cold night and this was very enjoyable.
I absolutely love these with Toki and the 4:1 ratio
I'm sorry that it was too cold in the studio for Az to appear on camera in her outside coat, but it was nice to hear her opinion! I like also that you kept a B-roll blooper in for the end roll! Entertaining and educational over Saturday morning coffee!

Love some Benedictine. Vieux Carré is best drink
Hey Anders, Sipping on this looking at our tree, and it is excellent, nice and christmassy, but after a few sips i squeezed just a bit of lemon juice straight in and stirred, i think a bit of acid does amp it up a bit in a nice way. Worth a try next time you make it!
The Old Fashioned is my favorite drink. I'll give this one a try! Thank you.
Anders you legend!
I've just made this, with Frey Ranch Rye.
Deeeeelicious!!! 😋 🥃
Happy you're like it! Cheers
I love that Rye
Frey? you must be in NV.
Great cocktail Anders! Cool find for sure!
I will try this one! I scored some walnut liquor and made a Sentimental Gentleman, which also made the Benedictine shine. Keep up the great content!
Followed the 3:1 and now feeling 2 to 1! Tasty!

This was the drink that got me into cocktails, a true classic
I had to sub in a half Oz of Fiddlers choice because I ran out of rye. It was... a little more spicey and surprisingly delicious! Thanks Anders!
This was the cocktail that got me started. Try it with Boker's bitters for a slightly different experience!
Just made one while watching this video. Lovely! It definitely feels like a nice alternative twist on the OF. Cheers!
If it’s freezing, have a bene’n’hot!!
Benedictine and hot water. It’s a staple in Burnley, UK!
He’s so dainty with that lemon peel. Thanks for the recipe. I like my Dillinger Sidecars though.
Great drink. And outstanding ethos!
Cheers!
Strong is always my mood
Haven't made this one in a while ... will need to rectify that. :)

I love when he shows the bottles and I have them all.
This cocktail reminds me of the Purgatory cocktail. Here the Chartreuse (green) is added, but without the bitters.
My ratios:
The Purgatory
* 2 ounce - Whiskey Rye
* ½ oz - Chartreuse (green)
* ½ oz - Benedictine
* Garnish Lemon
You should make a video on that one ❤

One of my personal favorite to make and drink 🔥🔥
I was out of rye so I ended up making a Kentucky Colonel for a before dinner drink. Very tasty drink, now to get some rye and do it right. 😊
I love whiskey cocktails!
we're sitting over here laughing because EVERY WEEK on saturday morning as we nurse our hangovers, my husband and i joke about how having that nightcap was a BAD idea... and here you are, encouraging us to have one. WE'LL SHOW YOU!
My Benedictine is running low, I may sub some strega or yellow chartreuse instead this weekend. Thanks as always for the great content!
Funny you mention it being more like an Old Fashioned, because I regularly drink what's called an Irish Old Fashioned, which is the same recipe with Irish whiskey (2.5:1) plus orange bitters in addition to the Angostura. Delicious, I must try this!
Good to see you again. I know you took some time off. Reading glasses? I don't have Benedictine, but I'll get some.
As a fan of B&Bs, this sounds fantastic
This one sits right on my wheelhouse. As do the variations.
Just had knee surgery last month and i should be able to drink by xmas. This will be my first drink! Cant wait! Those watches look pretty sick. But ill buy from your site so you can pay for a heater, lol.
Alright, I need to try this one!
wonder what this would be like with a bar spoon of allspice dram, amp up the holiday vibes even more?
I find that when mixing a drink that's just spirit and liqueur like a rusty nail or a godfather that 3:1 seems to be the magic ratio, depending of course on the sweetness of the liqueur.
Any good ideas about a Christmas old fashioned 🤔🤔
I don't know what a Landing pad is....but I love those thingys on screen 😁
Delicious drink
I loved your coquito episode from last Christmas. Any chance we’ll see a revisit episode of that? Changes you may have made to that recipe?
love you anders
How would B&B (brandy and Benedictine) change the flavor? Have you tried that?
Benedictine vs Benedictine and Brady [ B and B ] ..... been along time since I have had any B & B. So, what is the difference in taste between this and the Benedictine? Would there be any advantage to making the Monte Carlo with B & B rather than Benicitne?
After the Monte Cassino episode I will never sleep on an Anders “Monte” anything episode!
Love the bitter bear glasses
Awesome vid. One of my favs.
There is probably a better place to put this but here we are. Got my shipment of the Portland syrup Grenadine. It’s great! Lots of deep flavor!
Made this 3 t o 1, and it's soooo good! But now I am going 4 to 1 because I like dry cocktails. Either way, I'll drink it all day long.
Maybe not all day!😂
I love this drink. I bought Benedictine just for this drink.
Woot! first to comment...Another great cocktail. The Wardman was excellent and now this one with my favorite Rye for cocktails, Rittenhouse.
I made a monte Carlo last weekend. Subbed in a 1/2 oz cognac in place of part of the rye. 3:1:1. Or maybe I made a vieux care without the vermouth. Who knows. Good either way.
Fun fact: The DOM on the Benedictine label stands for the Latin: Deo, Optimo Maximo - meaning God, most good, most great.
One of my favs
I love your other channel screen crush 🤙
TO THE BAR!➡️🥃
Great drink! And my favorite bartender is 6'5"...
Harumf?? In my best Mel Brooks voice as the Guv in Blazing Saddles "I didn't get a Harumf out of that guy!" LOL!
One of my go-tos 😊
Anders, love your logo. You offer a 59fifty cap with a smaller logo on the front left corner and I would buy it. Sure many others would too.
As a 6'6" bartender, @7:23 wounded me. ;)
Thankyou 😊

My favourite cocktail :D
I think you totally should add a sense of adventure to the ingredients list of all of your cocktails
Can I drink this at the pool? (I know it’s a silly question). It’s just a PITA to make margaritas and this drink seems simple.
