"Look what they've done to my glass." "Take the drink, leave the canoli." "I am gonna make him a drink that he can't refuse." Yes, I could go on the whole day.
I just got back from my honeymoon in Scotland, stayed on the Isle of Skye for 5 days. Talisker was by far my favorite scotch. I officially become a godfather to my niece tomorrow. This video was made for me.
Congrats! My wife and I went to Edinburgh + Skye for our 10th anniversary and also fell in love with Talisker. Our kids loved the stories so much, we took them back to Edinburgh just a few months ago. And we came home with a giant bottle of Talisker 10 from duty free, so I’ll definitely be making one of these this weekend, too
When I was learning to bartend there were little way to remember drinks. Godmother = Visits Assholes (Vodka & Amaretto) while Godfather = Shoots Assholes (Scotch & Amaretto) 🤣🤣
Love these simple, limited ingredients cocktails! Keep them coming. Tried the Godfather with various scotch whiskeys and it is now a go-to for me. I’m a simpleton, if it’s over three ingredients or has something I don’t normally have, it doesn’t get made 😊
Great cocktail, two thoughts. 1) It's tough to get the proportions right because too little amaretto gets lost and too much takes over and ruins it. I go lighter on the amaretto myself. 2) I had a great bartender in Austin who used a base of blended scotch but then added a teaspoon of something super flavorful, like Laphroaig or Ardbeg. It was a brilliant move.
This was my mother's drink. She was, shall we say, part of the JFK airport crowd. She knew people. She also drank Godmothers. Anders -- you cheer me up. Thanks.
Hearing Oz laughing, had me chuckling too.😂 Also been meaning to crack open my Talisker. Just gave me the perfect opportunity. 😊 Have a great weekend to the both of you 👍🏻
Great video! I need to try this. One of my favorite tricks is to keep a bottle of super-smoky Islay malt around for augmenting a basic blended Scotch whisky in these kinds of applications. A couple ounces of, say, Ardbeg 10 will really heighten a bottle of affordable/smooth/nondescript blended Scotch without breaking the bank.
I tried this at the Toronto airport on a layover. Really liked it and have tried recreating it with no success. Tried your measurements with Glenfarlas cask strength, and finally hit the mark, CHEERS!!
Welcome back Anders! Since you were gone for the last two weeks, I had to come up with something for myself (which I can do now, thanks to you!). Here’s what I made. First, I made boiled cider, which is fresh apple cider reduced by 7/8. Makes a very concentrated apple cider syrup. No added sugar needed. It’s a New England thing, so thought I would share. Plays well with bourbon and rum. Then I made a classic cocktail. The Winter out of the Waldorf=Astoria book. I don’t think that you’ve done this one-it’s a perfect rum cocktail for the fall/winter months. I used Plantation Xaymaca in it. Thanks again for being an inspiration and a great teacher!
Love it! I use the boiled cider syrup (when cooled) in a whiskey drink built on the Mai Tai spec. I call it The Apple of Mai Tai. Anders-do the reader recipe episode again!!!!
Ngl, I know it’s the classic “fix” for everything, but 1 or 2 dashes of angostura here adds such a nice through-line of spiciness tames the sweet amaretto and plays nicely with the wood in the scotch. That’s always been my go to.
A favorite! I know it’s not “authentic” this way, but I sometimes add a shake of cherry bitters to mine. Like you mentioned, cherry goes so well with these flavors!
I will be taking a bottle of Amaretto to the family Christmas gathering. My brother-in-law has tons of bourbon and scotch, but he never mixes anything. I like the simplicity of an Old Fashioned, and think that I will like this one as well for similar reasons. Thanks!
This is one of my favorite ang go-to cocktails! I love simple cocktails like these and its amazing how many bartenders are not familiar with it and will try to complicate it with so many unnecessary ingredients.
One of my favorite scotch cocktails. Made a "South Louisiana" twist on it for a friend subbing rye (specifically Sazerac) and added 2 dashes of Peychaud's to it, called it The Parrain. Tasted pretty good too.
One of mymost favorite cocktails, The God Father! I started out using a 1-1 ratiio, but have refined it like you did, and now it's more of a 1-3 or 1-4 ratio, but whatever ratiio you like, you will love this drink!
This is the first cocktail I ever made. I have since found it to be an excellent candidate for an "improved" riff. Add 5ml fernet and an absinthe rinse
Great video! Awesome cocktail and amazing watch. My wife just blessed me with an amazing whiskey green. Love the heft of the watch. The heft of the cocktails pretty good too.
Just made it, that’s a damn good cocktail, and the orange really brings out the flavors. I think I’d only had a light blended scotch before, the talisker really brings it to a whole new level!
I always have a cherry or even two with this, especially since I also make them 3:1 that sweetnest when you eat one of the cherries is just awesome. I do however prefer this with a 100 proof rye. Top 5 for me for sure.
as promised. I made this tonight with Benriach 12 and Saronno Amaretto with cherry. Really nice. it has the smoke of the whiskey the sweetness of the amaretto with a hint of cherry. like sitting next to a firepit w cherry wood. yum. a late night, dessert drink.
Just tried a riff with grappa instead of whisky and it works as well, can't compare it to the original though since I haven't tried it with whisky. Grappa - Sarpa Ori di Poli Amaretto - Disaronno Used lemon instead of orange (my orange was old and sad unfortunately) Worth a try!
Anders, always enjoy your videos and content....this is still my favorite cocktail. Super simple but elegant and can pair just about any smoky scotch with amaretto in different ratios and it delivers. I still remember the first time I had one. 2006 in a bar at the Newark airport on my way to Dublin on a business trip. Some where along the way the Godfather became my favorite over an Old fashioned or Rob Roy. Cheers!!
After playing some golf this afternoon, I am all for a Scotch whisky drink, and this seems like a great one to try out! I have been known to have the occasional Rusty Nail, and I look forward to this drink, which is somewhat similar.
you are on point this evening, Anders! We are going to a friend's Cosa Nostra theme party tomorrow night. We all dress up like gangsters, eat pasta, there's paparazzi, and there will be much vino and cocktails. i will recommend this one. thank you!
Hello Anders and welcome back!…I think this is a great drink, although I would probably use a blended Scotch!..perfect for a Fall night.👌👌👌by far, the “cherry” was a nice touch!!🤗🤗🤗 have a wonderful weekend and as always “CHEERS”! 🥃🥃😁😁❤️❤️
Talisker is an Isla Scotch. Maybe not the smokiest, but it’s still distilled in Skye. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I just did a tour this summer and I’m pretty sure on this
I just happen to have in my bar at the moment a really nice bottle of Islay scotch I was gifted as a present and your video made me crave a Godfather so bad... I'm making one right now! Cheers Anders!
I like adding a dash or two of black walnut bitters to this ( I think it’s a called a “Godfather Returns”). Always great to have an easy 2 ingredient banger for family gatherings (rusty nail is another go to)
I like subbing Rakija with Whiskey in whiskey forward cocktails just to see how it differs. Rakija is a grape brandy and we distill our own every year so I have plenty of it to mix into cocktails. Im lacking the amaretto tho. Have to go out and buy some and try this out!
I'm going to try this tonight. Only scotch I have is some Johnny Walker Black, but that should work - its a little smokey. also, no oranges or lemons but maybe try some orange bitters that I have. We'll see how it goes. Thanks!
I'm back!

Anders is back baby!!!! 🔥🔥🔥
Welcome back, both of you. Introduced this cocktail to a friend who liked Amaretto Sours, years ago.
I wish they’d make a pocket watch, especially in their whiskey collection!
Does the bottle of amaretto matter? When i Google searched it. Disaronno pops up. Are they the same in taste?
Their watches are beautifully crafted! I really want one.
On the day of your daughter’s wedding I’m going to request this cocktail
😂
Brilliant 😂
"Look what they've done to my glass."
"Take the drink, leave the canoli."
"I am gonna make him a drink that he can't refuse."
Yes, I could go on the whole day.
I just got back from my honeymoon in Scotland, stayed on the Isle of Skye for 5 days. Talisker was by far my favorite scotch.
I officially become a godfather to my niece tomorrow.
This video was made for me.
This drink's definitely for you. Congratulations on all accounts!
Congrats! My wife and I went to Edinburgh + Skye for our 10th anniversary and also fell in love with Talisker. Our kids loved the stories so much, we took them back to Edinburgh just a few months ago. And we came home with a giant bottle of Talisker 10 from duty free, so I’ll definitely be making one of these this weekend, too
Nothing makes me happier than opening UA-cam while sitting in my car pre-shift and seeing Anders’s face
Have a great shift! Cheers
Literally same! Ma make it tonight for some of my regulars! #Cheers
When I was learning to bartend there were little way to remember drinks. Godmother = Visits Assholes (Vodka & Amaretto) while Godfather = Shoots Assholes (Scotch & Amaretto) 🤣🤣

Been making this for years. Adding a couple dashes of orange bitters is excellent and really fitting for the name 🍊
Love this idea because I wouldn't want to waste a fine malt on a cocktail, even a Bobby Burns or a Dirty Screw.
This was my mother's drink. She was, shall we say, part of the JFK airport crowd. She knew people. She also drank Godmothers. Anders -- you cheer me up. Thanks.
“Someday, and that day may never come, I will call upon you to do a service for me.”
Love the way Az’s eyes light up when she taste the cocktail. 😃
Hearing Oz laughing, had me chuckling too.😂
Also been meaning to crack open my Talisker.
Just gave me the perfect opportunity. 😊
Have a great weekend to the both of you 👍🏻
Cheers. Happy weekend!
Thanks for including the blended aspect to this video (I'm talking about what you said during timestamp 5:50 or so). I like ratios.
Great video! I need to try this. One of my favorite tricks is to keep a bottle of super-smoky Islay malt around for augmenting a basic blended Scotch whisky in these kinds of applications. What timing! I was just thinking of making one of these tonight and then your video pops up! This has always been one of my favorites!
Enjoy it. Happy weekend!

Love this. Thanks for sharing - going to try the apple cider reduction!
I love cider. I'm going to be boiling up a batch today!
Love it! I use the boiled cider syrup (when cooled) in a whiskey drink built on the Mai Tai spec. I call it The Apple of Mai Tai. Anders-do the reader recipe episode again!!!!
I just tried this, didn't have an orange so I used 1 dash of orange bitters. OMG..this drink is outstanding!!
I always do 3:1 with orange bitters. Perfect!
Looks like I need to get a bottle of Amaretto.
My favorite Anders videos are when the story and recipe are so simple, he fills the time with his personality. Cheers!
Ngl, I know it’s the classic “fix” for everything, but 1 or 2 dashes of angostura here adds such a nice through-line of spiciness tames the sweet amaretto and plays nicely with the wood in the scotch. That’s always been my go to.
2:20 I wish Original Grain would make a pocket watch, especially in their whiskey collection!
Thank you, Anders, I was wondering what to have and a simple favorite
Looks like I'm heading to the store after work today.
A favorite! I know it’s not “authentic” this way, but I sometimes add a shake of cherry bitters to mine. Like you mentioned, cherry goes so well with these flavors!

"Whoa. WhOOA whoa. WHOOOAAAA." 😂 Can't wait to make this.
I do like this cocktail and make it often. I've used several different scotchs..... I agree something with more 'flavor' is preferable.
It's always a good video when Az tastes the cocktail/s on screen! I always enjoy your videos over Saturday morning coffee! :D
This is one of my favorite ang go-to cocktails! I love simple cocktails like these and its amazing how many bartenders are not familiar with it and will try to complicate it with so many unnecessary ingredients.
Discovered this drink recently. My new favourite alongside the Old Fashioned. Absolutely delicious. Works well with Irish Whiskey too.
I've done this for a while but used rye typically, and 2oz. Will try Scotch. Also, has to be Disaronno. And 1-2 dashes of Ango doesn't go amiss...
This is the first cocktail I ever made. I have since found it to be an excellent candidate for an "improved" riff. Add 5ml fernet and an absinthe rinse
I probably shouldnt of been drinking coffee while watching. Queue the washing machine. Great show guys!
Perry's has Godfather's Return... use monkey shoulder scotch and the amaretto with walnut bitters. Very good.... they also drop in a cherry
My fave! Introduced this to so many folks & they always love it.
I always have a cherry or even two with this, especially since I also make them 3:1 that sweetnest when you eat one of the cherries is just awesome. I do however prefer this with a 100 proof rye. Top 5 for me for sure.

Some days I want this drink and other days I want a Rusty Nail. Both amazing in their own ways
Just tried a riff with grappa instead of whisky and it works as well, can't compare it to the original though since I haven't tried it with whisky.
Grappa - Sarpa Ori di Poli
Amaretto - Disaronno
Used lemon instead of orange (my orange was old and sad unfortunately)
Worth a try!
Glad to have you back Anders! And with something else to do with my bottle of amaretto no less! This is a very interesting cocktail!
Drinking The Doctor tonight. My favorite you have taught me to make.
Great video. You were super relaxed in this one. I will make this cocktail soon. One of my favorite movies.
Ha! Loved the cotton ball impression. Made me think of the bit in Men in Tights. 😂
This is definitely a cocktail I'll be making this winter!
That crazy laugh @0:10 was a bit too genuine... straight from Chicago too?
So glad to have yall back! Hope your time off was enjoyable to say the least.
Welcome back Anders. Fantastic video as always.
"Don't even notice the cyanide" Too funny!
Ooh I've never tried this with scotch but with Rye this is one of my favorite drinks
After playing some golf this afternoon, I am all for a Scotch whisky drink, and this seems like a great one to try out! I have been known to have the occasional Rusty Nail, and I look forward to this drink, which is somewhat similar.
The Godfather!!! One of my all-time favorite cocktails!
LOooooved the intro ! Even better than Marlon Brando himself !
first cocktail i ever had many moons ago, first one i made once i built a bar. been too long, i need to try this one again
Well, as it so happens, I have quite the Scotch collection so yes, I will be making this one also.
You're supposed to put the orange peel in your mouth, grunt, hobble around, and then collapse for the proper garnish.
My favourite winter night sipper ❤
Welcome back! Love a simple cocktail recipe. Cheers!
I was just thinking about this drink , thank you universe ❤
Been my go to for ages. So easy to make and so good! I usually use Canadian Rye.
you are on point this evening, Anders! We are going to a friend's Cosa Nostra theme party tomorrow night. We all dress up like gangsters, eat pasta, there's paparazzi, and there will be much vino and cocktails. i will recommend this one. thank you!
Oh wow, i literally just tried it for the first time during shift. Great sipper.
This was my favorite cocktail when I first started drinking at age (undisclosed). I may have to revisit it.
LMAO well done Vito Corleone impression.
You come to my bar,
Order my fucking cocktail,
And you don't even tip!
🤣🤣🤣
We missed you Anders.
I enjoy this cocktail using Old Grandad 114
Good choice
The boss
Hello Anders and welcome back!…I think this is a great drink, although I would probably use a blended Scotch!..perfect for a Fall night.👌👌👌by far, the “cherry” was a nice touch!!🤗🤗🤗 have a wonderful weekend and as always “CHEERS”! 🥃🥃😁😁❤️❤️
Thanks! An excellent fall cocktail. Hope you enjoy your weekend too!
This is one of my favorite cocktails, and I ALWAYS garnish with a cherry...
I love the zoom in and out Woahs! From Az 😂😂 too good
Talisker is an Isla Scotch. Maybe not the smokiest, but it’s still distilled in Skye.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I just did a tour this summer and I’m pretty sure on this
I’ve had Southern Comfort and amaretto and that was really good. I think it might be called a Sicilian Kiss.
I think I will be making this, this eve!
Glad you are back!
Your movie clips are so positive and I am an ex bartender , I watch your clips to keep me sharp in case of a house / kitchen party …. Oh yes
Great drink and simple
This is my favorite whiskey cocktail
Every Godfather has a ring and every Godfather cocktail must have a cherry 🍒
Haha the Brando impression is so good. Cheers dude!
I like cocktails very much.
Read the book....watched all of the movies 🎬.....might as well have the drink.....can't wait to try it out. Thank you for another beautiful idea !!! ❤
Love the music on this. Great video for your return!
I will absolutely be making this. WITH a cherry. Thank you.
The drink master. Keep them coming.
I discovered The Godfather about a year ago and yes, my favorite scotch is Talisker or Highland Park with it.
I just happen to have in my bar at the moment a really nice bottle of Islay scotch I was gifted as a present and your video made me crave a Godfather so bad... I'm making one right now! Cheers Anders!
Enjoy it!
I love mine with orange bitters thrown in
Talisker is my “favorite” scotch (so good choice?). I’m hosting Thanksgiving so I might batch this up the day before. Thanks for the idea!
Fun video for making this drink. Thank you.
yes, i'll be making this one!!!
I love the marshmallows! That's a great Brando impression.
Do you know which brands use pits vs bitter almonds?
I like adding a dash or two of black walnut bitters to this ( I think it’s a called a “Godfather Returns”).
Always great to have an easy 2 ingredient banger for family gatherings (rusty nail is another go to)
Nice touch
Yes! It's a lovely cocktail, but I've only ever mixed it with blended scotch. Time to get my bottle of Talisker off the shelf.
Thanks!
Dig it, I need some recipes for my bottle of Luxardo Amaretto. And I do happen to own a new bottle of Talisker 10!
My go to in little Italy NYC in the 80s
These will catch you off guard. Careful they are delicious and strong.
I enjoyed the film… at 10:49am, as I sit at the yardbird bar in LA with my headphones on. Also… background music/sound design on point.
