I recently installed a JVC unit in my 2015 Tacoma and using a 2nd party pre-wired harness I could not get the camera to work. After several calls to the tech department I decided to follow this video. The camera came on and worked perfectly! Thanks for the great instructions.
Thanks man works perfect followed your instructions to the T and now I got my factory backup cam wired to my aftermarket hu. Did this on a 2015 Tacoma SR5 base model.
Thanks a lot for this. I was able to get my hu working, but couldn't get video for the camera. I had the purple/white wire connected to the wrong spot, had to run it behind the glove box. Your video was the only one that pointed that out. Saved my a bunch of time and frustration.
This worked perfectly on my 2014 Tacoma with a Joying Android head unit. No issues with the camera on 12V. Thanks for the Video! Just a quick summary for those that may be interested: After cutting off the backup camera harness: 1. Centre of video cable to red on vehicle 2. Braid of video cable to white + braided cable (with black tape on it) on vehicle 3. 12Volt on Ignition (spliced into my aftermarket harness after detecting 12V with a multimeter) to Black with White marks 4. Backup sense from behind glove box to wire labeled "back" on my head unit harness 5. Put on shoes
I have a 2014 manual Tacoma. I just installed a pioneer head unit and followed your instructions exactly.... as far as I know. My radio Recognizes the truck is in reverse however the camera footage does not come through. One thing I saw in other instruction videos is that a 12 to 6 V converter was needed since the camera takes 6 votes and the jumper to the red power line is 12 V. Do you know if this could cause the camera not to work? do you have any other advice
Did you even solve this issue? My first pioneer unit wouldnt work unless I applied pressure to the camera input with a ziptie. Guess what, my second pioneer unit years later has the same issue. I even changed RCA plugs. Not sure if its a Pioneer specific problem.
I retained my camera the hard way. I couldn't find continuity anywhere so I ran the video cable from the back to the front. I did use the step down converter, but it just shows the picture without backup grid lines and the picture is just as grainy as the factory screen. The factory had the grid lines. I'm buying an aftermarket camera and taking that factory junk out. I need the grid lines. They make a direct replacement, but I still won't have the grid if using an aftermarket radio. It will be a pain trying to fit and aftermarket camera, but at least I will have a clear picture with grid lines. I didn't buy a hd resolution monitor to look at a grainy picture. This was for 2010 Infiniti qx56 and there is nothing online telling you which wires to use.
I know this is an old video, but I’ve been struggling with this install. Followed the video. When I put the truck in reverse, the headunit triggers the camera screen, but I’m only getting a black screen. I have tried switching the polarity on the camera settings, but that is not working. Any ideas?
@@dr420nrg I did. I don’t quite remember exactly what it was, but I tapped into a wire behind the glove box. Worked like a charm ever since. Messed with it for a couple of days. Was not like the video showed. Wish I remembered exactly what wire it was. I believe I found the answer on one of the Tacoma forums. Hope that helps.
@@ismellpnutbutter I used the red wire behind the glove box and it does trigger the video screen when in reverse. Are u saying the video feed wires are behind the glove like the reverse wire?
I know this is super old but I’m stuck right in this situation. Followed all the instructions in this video and when I put the truck in reverse the screen goes black with no video output. Any help would be appreciated if possible.
did anyone figure this out? I don't know how that blue cable is used from the factory radio. I read online it may be used to power the antenna. can anyone confirm this?
When you're video reaches the time of about 2:05 you say to hook the black wire from the camera to positive 12v, are you sure that's correct because I have a 2017 WRX and one of the white wire coming from the camera is the 6 volt power, it gets connected to number two on the 28 pin harness which is the reverse wire.
Just installed this head unit a week ago. This video helped a lot. However, the purple/white wire from your unit was actually orange on mine and labeled "Back". Maybe on newer units. Otherwise perfect!
Have a 13 and put in a JVC radio but I think mines different cause all I have is USB wire harness not hooked in are they the same? Do I have something hooked up wrong
hi stephen.., are the purple/white cable joint to reverse signal to head unit? and those wire are not 12v + (when in reverse gear) right ? just a signal... please correct me if i am wrong
Great video. I am trying to do this on my 2014 as well. I had a couple of questions: 1) I read elsewhere the camera voltage is 6V. Is the red wire you're taping into behind the glovebox 12V? 2) If you pause 1:28 into the video, your finger is pointing to a bare copper wire. What is that wire? 3) How did you ground the whole thing? Thanks!
1) Don't worry about 12v vs 6v, it won't hurt anything. 2) The bare copper is the outside of the video cable, not the inside 3) Everything is grounded to the black wire in your harness.
So do you also ground the red to RCA connection and ur bare n white to RCA connection to black on harness? Cuz I followed ur video step for step but my camera display is blacked out! Please help!
Need ur help, i got toyota harness dor podofo android head unit. Toyota wish 2010. I short circuit today and had my fusible link broken. Need to replace it tomorrow. Stereo working except for factory reverse camera and steering control for reverse guide lines. Plz help
Is that reverse indicator wire powered (+12VDC)? If so, can I just connect the switched power from the reverse lights to the reverse wire in the head unit to trigger the camera?
Can u tell me where can I find the wire chart four a 2012 yukon am trying to hook up my factory oem backup camera that in the mirror to a aftermarket radio

Perfect video thanks, wondering how different the tundra wiring is
Hi, am so pleased with these video, what I've not got is the purple stripped white wire that u connected to the reverse cable
Thank you for making it easy for me!
The wiring harness you cut isn't that the same wiring for steering wheel control?
Thanks for the video! It worked perfectly on my 2014 Tacoma. 👍🏼

If your head unit allows a second camera just add it to the front bumper and run the wires.

never cut your wires they sell harnesses for pretty much all makes and model cars
why? I'm never going to put the factory radio back in.
Stephen Ambruzs which one of those 4 wires has the 6 volt power in it?
Stephen Ambruzs if needing to resell it's good to allow for factory
I suppose, but I HIGHLY doubt the new owner is going to remove the far superior aftermarket radio, purchase a factory radio, and reinstall it.
Stephen Ambruzs Because 15 years later when I want to install an even better aftermarket radio, your hack job makes mine infinitely harder.
That factory camera is 6v if I'm not mistaken. Did it continue to work or did it eventually give out
Delbert Tapia it's fine. It's not enough of a difference in amperage to matter.
Will be doing this in a 2014 tacoma. Sony Double din with oem camera.
My Tacoma has the back up camera in the rear view mirror. Will there be wires available behind my factory unit or will I have to rewire?
