  • What's up Dummies!? Today we install our new Joying Head Unit into our 2015 Tacoma. It was not very difficult, with a little know how you can easily do this yourself.
    I show you step by step how to install the unit as well as how to wire in your factory reverse camera to the Joying unit.
    Below are some links to the products I used to complete this install.
    Be on the lookout for a video showing you how the unit operates and well as my thoughts on it.

    A quick update, i contacted joying and asked them about this harness for the factory reverse camera. They sent me this link www.joyingauto.com/toyota-universal-harness-support-factory-reverse-camera.html
    They also said to contact them directly before purchasing to ensure it is the propper one for your vehicle! I hope this helps!!
    I am in talks with joying about potentially doing another one of these videos for a brand new unit that will be coming out in a few months, so fingers crossed!!!
    Thanks for all the love and support!

      So, I installed the newest joying in my 2012 Tacoma….. followed your directions and the truck locked in park (I can over ride it with the lil switch) but the camera doesn’t work. I checked the fuses and they’re all good. I have 2 white wires….i just put them with the other one 🤷🏼 any ideas???

    Great video! Any chance you know what each of those 4 wires does? I tried doing this exact set up with the anytime backup camera mod and I am getting a bunch of codes.

    • @theduvaldummies
      @theduvaldummies  Рік тому

      If I had to guess one is a ground, one is a remote wire that activates the full screen and one is power of some sort. I wish I could be more help!
      As for the anytime backup cam mod, I have never looked into that. So I couldn't guess as to why you are getting codes thrown. If you are still having trouble with the backup cam in regular format, I have been told that Joying has developed a connector that should plug directly to our trucks. I would shoot them an email and ask about that plug. If you didn't leave any wires to splice into on the plug you cut out of your truck you could probably order a new one, or get one of those tools that remove the wires from those pins so you can replace them.
      Thanks!!

I connected all of the original harness to the Joying unit but the controls on the steering wheel do not work. Where is that section on the Joying you mentioned to "map" the controls to the unit. I noticed you put your four 10mm mounting bolts back in but didn’t see the mounting brackets on your Joying. Did you find a way to adapt the factory brackets or did you just put them in for the heck of it?

    • @theduvaldummies
      @theduvaldummies  Рік тому

      Good eye!! Lol, so funny story about that bracket. During the install, with all the filming, i completely forgot about that bracket, and I put those bolts in as if I had installed the brackets. Lol I didn't even realize what I had done until about 4 weeks after I posted this video and was watching one night with a buddy. Luckily I kept the stock radio, so I still have the brackets. I haven't put the bracket in yet, but I have it. Luckily, I haven't had any issues with it popping out or vibrating, even doing some pretty good off-roading.
      I would, however, recomend the bracket if you are installing one of these in the near future.
      Thanks for watching and calling me out!! Love it!!!

    Just got a email reply about a unit for my 14 tacoma . They had me send and picture of the
    Front and back of my unit and sent me a link with 3 units that are compatible with my truck and will keep the steering wheel function as well
    As the reverse factory camera . They told me I had to choose the option with the
    12-15 with JbL amp even tho I don’t have that one but that the harness are compatible. Let’s hope they are right

    • @theduvaldummies
      @theduvaldummies  Рік тому

      From what I know, even if you have the jbl there is no way to tap into the factory reverse camera through their current harness. They may have updated their harness, but as for as I know the only way to get your factory reverse Cam to work is how I did it in this video.
      If you don't mind spending the extra $15 for the jbl add on, it may be worth it to try it and see if it's compatible to our reverse cams. Sure would be easier to wire up lol. Please come back and update us so we can put it out to everyone!
      Thanks!

    • @theduvaldummies
      @theduvaldummies  Рік тому

      @ivan rizo that's awesome! Yeah my image isn't as sharp either, but it's due to the much larger screen. That updated harness will make instalation way easier, but less exciting lol.

    • @craigbates178
      @craigbates178 Рік тому

      @@theduvaldummies Ya Waze is pretty good. My thought on the OBD2 was connecting the Bluetooth unit I have to Bluetooth on the head unit. Split screen to show Waze or similar on one side and some OBD2 data (engine load, etc) on the other. I hear that Android Auto might not easily support split screen like regular Android (like a tablet) does.

      I would imagine it would. You will have to find where your video feed wire is located and tap into that.

      Yeah Paul is correct, also I did not use the factory bracket. In the video I put the bolts back in like I was using it, I didn't even realize during filming that there was no bracket lol. It wasn't until someone pointed it out on a comment that I realized what I had done. But if that bracket messes up the fitment just take it out, I have been on a few big off road trips since I have installed it with just those 5 yellow clips and it has not ever moved. Unrelated to my other comment, but... My install is almost completed, and I was able to get the MODE button to be recognized by the radio unit, as well as the buttons on the right side of the steering wheel, but for whatever reason, volume, and the "directional" buttons on the left are not being recognized by my unit. Do you have any idea of why that might be?

    • @theduvaldummies
      @theduvaldummies  Рік тому

      There has to be something with that plug, either debris or damage to the plug. Something is not letting the connection be made. I wish I had a sure fire have for you!

    • @ghzanette
      @ghzanette Рік тому

      @@theduvaldummies kind of figured it out! Followed your instructions on the back up camera + used a $10 adapter I found online and the only extra step with the adapter harness was to T-tap the red wire for the reverse signal to the radio (this was much easier than cutting it all and I’d say totally worth the investment) if you search for “24 Pin Car Camera Adapter Connector Wire Reversing Camera to GPS Head Unit Z5X1” it should show up.
      As for the steering wheel controls, turns out that my Tacoma has 3 wires, SW1, SW2 and SW3 (plus a ground). My head unit only takes 2 steering wheel wires, so that is the problem. I ran SW1 and SW3 to the same input and now work, but as you can expect the buttons work in a duplicated manner (left and right do the same as volume up and down, for example).
      Apparently the solution for that is to run a resistor between the connections so the radio sees the signals as different frequencies. Someone online referenced a 6ohm resistor, so I’m ordering some this week and will test it out. Just sharing in case someone comes across the same issues!

      It's a Ham radio, it's the TYT TH-7800. I dont think they sell the 7800 in the US anymore (due to the fact it came unlocked and ready to roll from the factory) now you have to get the TH-9800. Same exact radio, you just have to download the TYT computer program that allows you to program your radio from the computer (1000% easier than on the radio).
